Something that really gets me here is the way that Jax reacts to Pomni attacking him after he hurt her feelings. The very first thing he does is try to talk her out of it with a shocked >"Hey! What are you doing?"At one point, before Pomni bites him, it looks like he was about to make the motion to flat out run away from the fight. He NEVER ONCE gets angry and tries to hit her back. He only keeps pushing her off and away from him. What makes him lose it isn't Pomni hitting him repeatedly. It's not Pomni trying bite, pummel him or choke him. It's Pomni questioning why he didn't fight back that finally makes him crack.

I do have to hand it to this show, episode 7's ending is one of the freshest plot twists I've seen in a long time.Not just the part about the whole escape being one of Caine's adventures, mind you. That was good enough on its own, but nothing all that new. I'm talking about the reveal that all the obvious C&A theory bait was just a bunch of wall dressing.I've seen my share of /co/ shows that start out doing random SOL plots, but sneak in hints of the "real" plot in the background for viewers to pick up and piece together until it's eventually brought front-and-center, completely changing the direction of the show, for better or worse (Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, etc.). Never have I seen a show that took this exact storytelling trend and went "Surprise, it was all a red herring and none of it ever mattered!"What makes it work is that there's an actual point to it: it fits the story's theme that nothing about the circus has meaning. There is no grand evil conspiracy, no hero coming to the rescue, no real reason for the suffering; just an empty existence where the only thing anyone truly has is each other.
