I know Miles isn't everyone's favorite spider (as much as Marvel wants him to be) but I'd get why Gwen would be excited to meet him in particular and I feel her enthusiasm come across. The chapter show's she's gotten a bit of a confidence boost from beating MODOK but the big head (heh) she's getting from it is causing her make some of her usual mistakes of just acting on impulse and not thinking anything through. I like how this issue highlight's Gwen's flaws: not giving Cecil due attention after bringing him back, not taking her newfound role as leader/representative of MODOK seriously and acting in her own self-interest to hang out with Miles abandoning her job in the process, giving Miles every awkward warning sign she's unstable as she chases her team-up, etc. At this point in the story Gwen's learned not everything's going to be handed to her for being 'the hero', but she's still pretty selfish and taking what she can. Still enjoy all her interactions through with Batroc, Cecil, and Miles though, her excitability and tendency to get carried away make for lovable traits and moments, and it's fun seeing her expectations fail to line up with the reality.

From a meta/IRL standpoint it's because of when she came about and that's who Marvel was trying to push but from an in-story standpoint I assume she just got into comics through the MCU. I like Gwen but I'd tell her to her face she has no taste and then force her to read some Gerber Man-Thing issues or '70s Starlin or something until she gains it.

I think Gwen's been reading comics since she was a kid, she would have been roughly 13/14 in 2010 when Miles hit the scene, he was a big new teen hero she'd get latched onto at an informative time in her life.
