>>153337334I want to write a fanfic about Bruce Wayne having amnesia and piecing together his life as Batman through half-formed clues.
>>153337334 You should have a link to the last one.
>>153337334i have this
bump
>>153337393There’s one where he becomes a semi-vegetable after the Bane attack and he silently seethes at Clark and the nurse taking care of him. I stopped reading when it steered into romance but the first few chapters reminded me of Johnny Got His Gun.
>completely burned out after finishing last fic>just want to relax and read>fucking nothing to read that's goodI've enjoyed one fanfic in the last six months. One.
>>153340970It was mentioned in the last thread, but like the one thing TvTropes is good for is finding curated fanfics.
>>153343607Indeed, I've found plenty of gems there.
>>153337334Is a generic Kryptonian being sent to the Mass Effect galaxy and using the Reaper crisis to grab power a good premise or no
>>153344600Ideas live and die in execution, anon. Does the kryptonian have to be generic? And it depends on the angle. Is it just a series of stompings/mock battles or is there a plot/character motive driving it?
>>153340970What was the last fic?
A bit early for another thread but okay.
Writing a Ghostwalker fanfiction. Probably my favorite ship in a long while
>>153345037I really liked that movie. There weren't many fics initially but I'm hoping to jump into the tag soon since it's been a year.
Linking previous thread for anyone curious;>>153297959
>>153345131Same. Got on tumblr just to find a group of people willing to still talk about the movie after a year. Threads on /tv/ lasted for about a couple months after the movie left theaters too. The only thing I'm excited about Doomsday for is to see the Thunderbolts again. It's hilarious that they're more well liked than the "official" Avengers team Marvel is trying to push. Wonder if some of the reshoots are them adding more TB scenes.
Time to down another hefty dose of caffeine and get down to writing! You anons should use caffeine if you are writing, it seriously helps a ton if you want to dish out a lot of words fast.
>>153345037Based I love that ship. Link or share the title when done if the thread is still up
PSA to everyone suffering the dreaded block - if you're thinking about a cool scene but you have a mountain of chapters/exposition/whatever to get through - just go ahead and write that scene! It can really help with your confidence
>>153337334I’m trying to make my own DC Universe based loosely off of New Earth and placing it in the real world bar some Alt-History changes. The Trinity and the original members of the Justice League making their debut in the mid 70s and 80s and their Legacies starting to take over in the Late 90s/aughts while dominating the show today. JSA, of course, having existed in the 40s but going into legal limbo in the 50s-60s with different groups claiming the name.
I'm cunny Zoe rape anon. Thinking of writing the series focusing on Sinister Mark now after that travesty.>Nolan is a lot harsher on Mark when he's a kid>Never tells him he was sent to Earth to protect it>Leaves him alone in the woods for a few days under the guise of a camping trip to see if he has what it takes to be a Viltrumite>Nolan is impressed and finally tells Mark the truth, accentuating that he'll see if Mark gets his powers or not>Mark spends his pre-teens and teens anxious and physically active to prepare for being a Viltrumite, becoming more of a dick>Nolan eases up like he did in canon while Mark hardens>Mark gets his powers and is absolutely estatic while Nolan is worried>Has Mark be a hero under the guise of having him sckut the rookie teams for any potential surprises>Several inversions of Mark's early heroing occur (Will go into detail when actually writing if I ever do)>Mark demands training with the best Nolan can throw at him when the difference in their strength irritates him too much>Nolan decises to throw a single Ragnar at him, hoping to dissuade him and really make him think about life.>Mark gets his ass kicked, recovers, goes at it again, and keeps going until he manages to improve enough to kill it>The "We need to talk" moment happens when Nolan bails on an established plan to kill the Guardians of the Globe.>Father and son fight of the century>Mark has a brief moment where he wonders what the fuck he's done before doubling down, having stressed about and obssessed with becoming a Viltrumite his whole life
>>153345677Within this I have a story where Janos Prohaska is writing his memoirs in Singapore after WW2
>>153345515It helps when you just write to get through it. Skipping ahead can fuck with the overall flow of the story as you try to make every other part fit.
>>153345760I've found that writing ahead sometimes sells me on parts of a story I was iffy about, and the process of filling in the gaps can lead to new ideas. Everyone's process is different, though
>>153337393I've read a few short ones wherethe punchline is that he's like "hello sons, I'm happy to see you and proud of you"And they inmediately go "alright either a shapeshifter or an alien, let's start the interrogation"
>reading a really long fic that goes interesting places>get like a quarter of the way through>hit a patch of prose that sounds like the exact sort of thing a LLM would shit out to fill space>completely lose interest even if the rest of the fic was promisingthis has happened to me too many times, I fucking hate Sam Altman.
>>153345955Hmm?
>>153345966My most reliable method for finding fics without having to sift through the atrocious filtering system AO3 has is to go to fics I like and see if the author has others bookmarked or if the fic itself is part of a collection.I found this Owl House divergent canon fic where the CATs succeeded in their effort to enter Belos' mind and end up not only discovering the truth but killing him in the process (really creative scene where Eber summons the Palisman creature to attack Inner Belos while Raine has him bound in place & Darius has set the forest of his mind ablaze), and as a result Hunter is suddenly the new Emperor by the "The Right of Rule" (title of the fic by CassiePoppy45, requires an account to read). The main fic is entirely from Hunter's perspective, and the scene I described is from a oneshot collection companion fic called "The Rest of Rule" which shows scenes from alternate perspectives or where Hunter isn't in them.I was jumping back and forth between the two, and Chapter 17 of the mainfic was when Hunter was about to hold a press conference to reveal the truth about Unification Day, but then I reached chapter 26 of the other fic (taking place during chapter 16 of the main one but off-screen) when I read this exchange (continued in next post, character limit).
>>153346139>“Write it down.”>Everyone looked at Lilith. And it was only when they did so that she realised this suggestion had come from her.>She cleared her throat, trying to collect herself, though she was still reeling in her shock. “By writing it down,” she explained, “we give people the chance to take it in a little at a time, or all at once, according to how they would prefer to have it delivered. I always find that things sink in much more clearly when I have it all in black and white before me.”>“It would allow people who don’t watch crystal balls or the news generally a better chance to get their heads around the truth,” Raine acknowledged slowly.>It would also be easier to control the narrative. So many things can go wrong live, but we can edit and prepare some sort of article or something similar.>“Well, we have the ‘how’,” Darius huffed after a few more minutes deciding exactly what shape this ‘written’ version of events should take. “Now we just need the ‘what’.”Just completely ruined it for me. Why can't authors disclose that they use chatbots in their tags?
This whole fanfiction of yours is like a cult of masochists. Hasn’t it occurred to any of the other intelligent people here that no normal person, whether a woman or a friend, would want to listen to so much gloom all day long, or would go mad, or would have to spend a bit of time with you lot and bring you down to earth? Just coming in here, into this dive, for five minutes depresses me, let alone sitting with blokes like you for the rest of my life. How do you expect to build a healthy relationship with that approach? It would be torture for you too, a classic toxic relationship. Another thing. Looks, money, status – your other half brings a lot to life – but without inner peace, none of this is worth anything, because mental problems won’t let you enjoy it. If a miracle happened and you got everything you wanted, I reckon your relationship would end in a storm after a few months, you’d get sacked from your job and end up a penniless vagrant because you’d spend it all on nonsense. This is what mental disorders lead to, and finding a woman won’t cure them. You can overcome them on your own and by yourself alone, by going to therapy or seeing a psychiatrist who will tell you what to do and how. I won’t say goodbye.
>>153346156what the fuck
>>153346156Oh, it's a little confusing without the formatting: the 5th line is italicized because the author had Eber "speak" using barks that are rendered as normal speech, and since he's the only character who does that it's always obvious when he's talking. It's a little lazy, but the rest of it was really enjoyable, it makes me think this CassiePoppy45 probably has some really great ideas that she can't get into prose and instead of knuckling down and finding a way to make it work Silicon Valley delivered her the slopengine and removed any chance of her developing her own style.
>>153344913>Does the kryptonian have to be generic?I mean not a named kryptonian so I don't have to be chained to existing characterisaiton>Is it just a series of stompings/mock battles or is there a plot/character motive driving it?Plot/character motive being kryptonian supremacist wanting to be a god-king of the verse and maybe trying to get back to krypton. There are two starting points I had in mind for the fic - either they were isekaied before ME1 and taking them down was the next major conflict after the Krogan Rebellion, and they're in a Hannibal Lecter-ish position until the Reaper War starts. Or more immediately, get isekai'd just in time for the Reaper invasion starting and with Shepard not being resurrected in ME2 are the one to take steps to unite the various species but under the Kryptonian flag. There'd be more of a focus on what kryptonian tech can do since the knowledge of how strong one can get under a yellow sun wouldn't be found out until a critical point in the story, in this route. Was originally going to be a SI but I despise those so feel better using an OC.
>>153345399>Behold the newest super team The Thunderbolts!>When things get weird you don’t need Captain America you need U.S. Agent!: I’m fine.>Super Spy Yelena Belova!: I’m not doing the pose>The Soviet Super Soldier Red Guardian!: This is going on TV, yes?>Master of infiltration Ghost!: *whoosh* Does this outfit make my butt look big?>And Bob!: Hey>The Thunderbolts coming to save a city near you! (A subsidiary of O.X.E)
>>153346175>guy who thinks superhero comics are why he has a hard time making friends
>>153346313I can understand not wanting to be tied to an existing character, especially because so many kryptonians outside of the superfamily are very straightforward in their characterisation. still, giving them a bit of a background could really pay dividends elsewhere in the writing process and provide some direction. were they part of zod's army, or part of the science guild? what part of krypton do they have roots in? you could tie them to what we know of krypton in small ways, make them more real that way. the one thing i'd warn against, because i'm encountering it more and more as i get into one of my own longfics in particular - keep as many characters on the board as possible i.e. shepard, so you have as many options as possible during writing/outlining. try not to hamstring yourself before your story is fully formed
>>153346511I've still got to come up with that. A supporter of Zod was the obvious route since they'll be aiming to soft conquer the galaxy for Krypton.Sure. Getting Shepard out of the way was just spitballing since without doing dual protagonists, or a redemption arc, it feels like Shepard would become the center of the plot. This is all super up in the air. The only real scene I have in mind is them in a red sun cell at the start/end of the story being visited by [love interest].
I wonder why AO3 doesn't allow you to advertise your Patreon, but they allow Discord links and among other stuff.Weird.
>>153346814They don't?I thought it was ffnet the one anal about it.
>>153346821they take down your account on ao3
>>153346814>>153346821No, they’ve always been against writers making money off fanfiction. It’s against the ethos of the site and hobby, but also it helps avoid legal trouble. Gotta dodge an future Anne Rice, yknow?
>>153345441I've already started it I just haven't completed it. I'm at the point where I've wrote one shots in between instead of finishing the third chapterhttps://archive.transformativeworks.org/works/65804812/chapters/169486879
How do you respond to the statement that anyone who wants to write fanfiction or dislikes parts of a story so badly they want to rewrite them, should have no recourse but to make their own original work with what they want to see instead of vandalize someone else's property?
>>153348048Awesome will give it a read right now. Been thinking about writing one about John and Bucky having a heart to heart post movie. Becoming proper friends you know?
>>153348159they're a retard
>>153337334Porn. I'm writing porn.
>>153348262That sounds interesting. Which way are you going to tackle it? A lot of their issues revolve around Bucky's feelings around Steve leaving and I feel like he's owed Walker an apology for a while. But they said that the Thunderbolts will have a bromance in Doomsday so maybe your fic will become canon
>>153346886People still manage to do it, it’s just you specifically can’t advertise it on AO3 in your fic. Like if you google the authors name and first result is their patreon where they charge for early access to chapters or something then AO3 can’t do anything about that.
Tips for writing smut? I never had experiences like that. At most I only had through porn.Stupid question, I know.
>>153348048Genuinely nice writing style.
Does anyone have any good recs on material to help my writing? I feel like I get too obsessive with illustrating every detail I can and not understanding when a reader will use their imagination to fill in the gaps. I have no idea how my favorite authors can tackle that when I want to perfectly encapsulate every moment I have in my head when I write.
>>153350180Let's put it this way. What do you actually want to convey? There. Everything else? Let them do that.
>>153350235Thanks anon. That's a good way to put it. I'll just have to take a step back to figure that out. I hate when my writing becomes a stream of conscious. I'll definitely be thinking about this tomorrow.
This has been a ride, and I'm barely over halfway through. Thank you, anon, for recommending this.
>>153337393oh that's actually coollike he tries to be bruce wayne the playboy but his detective training is still there subconciously and he can't help but notice strange things around the manor and his own instinctual reactions to things
>>153345515>>153345760I have used both techniques but as of recent i've been holding off on writing easier parts up ahead mostly cause I don't want to have a disconnect with how that part comes out and how i might later write the part before I had skipped, though of course everything's fixable afterwards, I just want to avoid itIt might be more painful, but I've been sticking with powering through a portion i can't quite put to words right, finally start flowing, and then jump back to that part to patch up what i had kinda slopped down during that first initial hurdle portionFor me, writing block portions pretty much always come down to me not being to be find the right way to write the scene in the way i want to get it across. It can be a real headache
>>153351267But I was really waiting for this. Perfect.
>>153351321>For me, writing block portions pretty much always come down to me not being to be find the right way to write the scene in the way i want to get it across. It can be a real headacheSame, anon. Same
>>153345955This just got me thinking about something what with the mention of filling out spaceDo you guys ever find yourself connecting two important scenes and kinda catch yourselves thinking>are people even going to want to read this? does this even matter?I write smut and in the process of getting two scenes of the good stuff, so to speak, I was writing some stuff for them to do inbetween. Like i had some little relationship stuff in there but as I watch the word count go up and reread it, even when I think it fits and is kinda needed to make it not just completely mindless relationship-wise, I can't help but wonder if readers will just skip it. I worry all the more cause I remember reading some longer oneshots where I found myself doing that during long, boring scenes. After writing this down, I think I'll actually ask the readers in the author's notes and see if any actually replies one way or the other. It can be hard to gauge if readers of my kind of stuff want shorter or longer fics; I think while multichapter longfics do very well, really short oneshots also do gangbusters, and things have kinda fell a bit now that my oneshots are easily hitting 10k mark and often beyond. Lot to think about.>>153346156Also i was kinda expecting this to be a false positive assessment but yeah that dialogue is so damn chatbot wishy washy lmao, it almost certainly is AI output in some form.
>>153351440i mean, you write for yourself, not anyone else, when it comes down to it
>>153348048oh shit we can make links work like this without having to do the stupid (dot) thing since regular ao3 links aren't allowed on /co/ neat
>>153351346sauce?I spent the last 8 years avoiding naruto, but it just pulls me right back in.
>>153351440The "filling out space" comment was specifically about what a LLM does whenever it is prompted for ANY response, nothing specifically to do with fics. The wishy-washy you point out is what I mean: how it restates these bullet point ideas of "the importance of print media" through each character in turn.As for connecting scenes, it depends on the way the author writes it and generally their prose. Some authors linger too long, but some of them write it in such a way that it has the same effect as a long-shot to set tone, to provide insight to a character's mood beyond just their internal monologue via their bearing. Like the other guy said, you make this for yourself, but you've also got to think about likeminded folks who want to read those quiet moments and don't have the talent to devise them like you can. Never feel guilty about wordcount if you think it has appropriate thought put into it.
>>153351572Biting the Fox That Guards You.Will warn you though, there is some modern slang, some weird shit between Naruto and Anko, and there are some parts that I don't know are perfectly emotionally or too much. They are child soldiers, and it's brought up a lot as a point to why they're fucked up.
>>153350103Appreciate it. I should probably get to finishing it. Just realized it's been a year since I've started writing it.>>153351543Was there an issue with links before? I missed the last thread
>>153351615No, it's just the site doesn't let you post links because of obvious reasons, spam and advertisements.
>>153351613Im not really enjoying it anymore.
>>153351673What part did you get to?
>>153349856few things i've picked up>be very careful to avoid turning the characters into porn stars during the act, particularly with dialogue; it's very easy to try for a little bedroom talk and have it dip into bad porn dialogue very fast or just not have them sound like themselves at all>it's a personal choice really but it pays to descriptive, lotta smutfics miss the mark with me personally by getting the sex over and done with in like 2 paragraphs, again personal choice but I want more to chew on than that>do not go overboard with euphemisms and get comfortable with reusing words for genitals a lot, it's the nature of the beast, accept it>read other smutfics to see what works for (you) and what doesn't, it's a good way of realizing what you actually want from the stuff you right i. e. realizing you wanted more of a certain act or dynamic in a story but it wasn't there, that's a sign you should add it to your own work perhaps>kinda applies for fic writing in general but look up and get a good grasp on 3rd person limited vs 3rd person omniscient if you're gonna do a 3rd person fic. Omniscient is fine but you want to avoid head hopping as it can be a chore to read (headhopping is when you're jumping from character's perspective to another character's perspective too quickly i. e. revealing the man's thoughts and the woman's thoughts in the same paragraph or something to that effect) In general you're gonna want to make a new paragraph when you switch perspectives.>there's no shame in googling sex questions, I think there's even guides for knowing the physiological basics for that kind of stuff out there>another personal one but take care to restrain yourself on including all the sexual stuff you like. I've had to catch myself from taking what'd be a simple fic with one simple bang and trying to add a bunch of other sexual acts and fetish-y things I like but have to reel it in as everything I write shouldn't have EVERYTHINGEverything I could think of.
>>153351681Im on 65.The author insisting on no timeskip makes it feel sloggy
>>153349856Pick up an mmo and get into erp with strangers
>>153351615>>153351645yeah I remember we used to have some guy spamming Ao3 links to his futa smut or somethingit was bad for a while
>>153351692Oh, no timeskip? Doesn't sound so bad. That timeskip introduced so many plotholes.
>>153351712Im bored though. Its kinda reminding me of the itachi/naruto gay shota mpreg slashfic i read long long ago.
>>153351748what the fuck
>>153351479very true, and it's what I do and have done, but I like to consider what other's think, if nothing else to discuss>>153351612>but some of them write it in such a way that it has the same effect as a long-shot to set tone, to provide insight to a character's mood beyond just their internal monologue via their bearing.rightI don't really think about it conciously most times but I always try to have the character's actions shown rather than told with filling scenes like this. It's always a tug of war with this kind of stuff cause sometimes I think simply telling IS better if you want a scene to be terse and snappy, but generally it's worth to describe a character not just as mad but with a furrowed brow and wrinkled nose or stuff to that effect>Never feel guilty about wordcount if you think it has appropriate thought put into it.Yeah, and a lot of times I like being able to get a nice higher count too just for the sense of accomplishment, it's just I had planned for the current story I'm writing to be about as long as my last and it's already double due to the establishing scenes going longer than I expected (and I broke my own rule about not including more smutty stuff than I had planned initially lol)sidenote very thankful for these threads, I love discussing this stuff and there's like nowhere else at all you really can so freely and in depth
>>153351763Oh, you're here too..Where do you think you are?
>>153351748>>153351763yeah you can't just drop a bomb like that man lmao

>>153351803this is the kind of shit that'd make everyone hanging out laugh wondering what the actual fuck happened, bro
>>153351613Nta, but I did feel that Anko and Naruto became close far too quickly, especially since it relies on the fanon idea that she was widely ostracized for being Orochimaru’s apprentice. Weirdly enough a completely different AO3 roleswap fanfic did the same thing, where Shisui became Nardo’s surrogate father/brother
>>153351804Not him, but I recall Naruto and Anko going to sleep in bed while cuddling each other. This is within a few days of being student and teacher.
>>153351819>>153351835It was a bit off. Could've used a bit more development. But I really liked their character dynamic.
>>153351819>Shisui became Nardo’s surrogate father/brotherOh god.Flip the CoinFuck that mess.
>>153351835Him, a lot of things move fast in this story.until ch 35 or so and then it slows down. I think it's because too much is happening everywhere now.But the author has already fallen into the trap of trying to contain the butterfly effect in o4der to keep writing canon/canon-adjacent scenes instead of going into completely new territory.I'll slog it to the recent update but this isnt going into favorite to check for updates
>>15335187565 is the Land of Steam or whatever, right? Didn't that happen because Hidan was inspired by Naruto?

>>153351894Its so hard to keep track now. There's too much retarded stuff going on now.An /a/fic where the author can actually write a divergent plot, that ive read wouldbe The Dark Below. And i only hated the ending because of getting cucked by queerbait. Feeling that way at the time anyway
>>153351932I really liked focus going away from Naruto though. That felt like a good direction. What happened in that story?

>>153351763>Revenge is a Bitch>naruto got bussypregged by itachi at 8/10,>same hate/destroy leaf woe is me>but with gay shotaAh.. it was a different time in my life
>>153351959Naruto learns an instant death seal that, of course, destroys all tension. There is some really forced feminist shit where the obviously female author pretends like Ino being a girl was ever in the way of her becoming clan head. >>153352039>>153352050How could you leave out my favorite scene. Sakura experiencing her first period.
>>153352025no, they just all have essentially the same backstory so any attempt to flesh them out kind of just makes them various flavors of naruto or Gaara. Yugito is given a backstory in the fanfic where a bunch of female ninja had to kill themselves to become a jinchurki, which is basically sai or any Kiri character, and a lot of bemoaning about how her village doesn’t like her but they like Bee
Need to pokearound /co/ media for some decent fics. Its hard though. Anything with a decent story or characters is probably a lot of too young shit or done to death cape shit.
>>153352074Ah. I liked the change with Yagura and Ukitaka. Obito not being fully in control of everything makes the whole story feel more natural.
>>153352085Depends on the show/movie. You’ll sometimes get lucky and find a decent one in an unexpected place.
>get to 66>bored>go to 77>its still boringMy god half the story is just timeskip ladding. Its not even enjoyable like the non-fanfiction im reading. Im just waiting for the other shoe to drop but no, here have more paddingFuck this

>>153348159My main argument for the "just write your own original work" is: if you're going to write with a drastic change in the characters' personalities, the setting, the dynamics, the premise, etc., at some point, your "AU" is just original fiction in all but name.
>>153352354hey, fifty shades of grey was twilight fanfic

>>153337334I’ve been meaning to make a fan-comic of Captain Rex as the one clone trooper who fell off the LAAT with Padme in Attack of the Clones. >>153352366My point exactly
>>153337334You know there are other fanfiction sites besides AO3 right?FFN, Wattpad, SpaceBattles...

>>153352354I understand your point, but what about "fix-it-fics" done out of spite for the author?I am planning to do this mainly with the quality (a drastic change to better) rather than that other stuff no one cares about.

He then goes home only to find it empty, and tracks down his wife and children, but his appearance frightens them away, and his wife nearly collapses out of sheer grief.>Ant-Man and Ultron except it's like the 2000s Astro Boy anime where "Hank Pym" fights off against the evil threat of AIM, while Yellowjacket manipulates events in order to turn the Ant-Man into the future god-king of machines and eradicate mankind. (Hank Pym is actually Ultron, with the real Hank Pym's ghost inhabiting an empty suit of armor).>Iron Man fic inspired by Kamen Rider and TTGL about the brothers Tony and Arno Stark working together to avenge their parents and take back the family company from Obediah Stane, with the two joining their mech suits to become the Iron Man. My works, many of which are /co/-related. Writing quality may very. Sometimes I'll write an idea just to get it out there before fully realizing it as a finished work.Username is Bladehero on AO3, 4Chan will not let me post a link. It's gotten really bad on here.
>>153352703That's different, as long as you're naturally continuing off what was there before, then that's just normal fix-fiction.My main gripe is when the story is basically just an original story - the premise has nothing to do with the original material, the characters act completely differently, your story just happens to have characters with the same names as the source rather than it being a real fanfic of them.
>>153357432Then that's not really fix-it, is it?
>>153357440What, "naturally continuing off what was there before?" I meant it more like you are able to write in a way that rationalizes the characters making different decisions that diverges from how the original story went while remaining in-character. That's just a good fix-fic.

>>153337334I often have the reoccurring thoughts of the Fate world merging with the DC Universe. Mostly inspired by the UBW anime and abridged series. Like what if Shirou met Batman? Or the rest of the JL? Sure he has the heart in the right place, but his self destructive mindset might put off some of them. Perhaps even give a reality check to Batman. I could imagine if we follow along with UBW Archer siding on the enemy’s side to kill Shirou. Archer vs the JL. That would be awesome. Then what if Gilgamesh was summoned by Vandal Savage? How would the two of them interact? And Gilgamesh versus Superman? The first hero. The King of heroes… versus the one who embodies the epitome of heroism, the culmination of thousands of heroism throughout history! The Man of Tomorrow! To go on a sillier team up, Saber and Etrigan. How would Arthoria treat Jason Blood? What would a HGW look like in DC, and we keep most of the Fate characters. Perhaps add even more servants as the story goes on.

>>153363136those days are long gone
>>153362870Kept it out of the post to focus mainly on Robert because the rest is pretty disjointed right now, but I have other stuff going on too. What I really want to do is have Robert stop by the Tower of Joy with his little group of escapees, hear Lyanna’s last words and leave for Essos with Jon. Robert would certainly come up with the idea of denying Rhaegar his son, and having Robert raise him with a secret identity would be a fun alternate version of how it went down in canon. I also think it would be really interesting to watch Robert battle with the idea of this little baby being his worst enemy’s son but also the last piece of his beloved Lyanna left in the world. You can bet he would raise little Jon to hate Targs more than anything - which may cause a bit of an identity crisis should Jon learn of his parentage later in life.Problem is, I can’t think of a feasible way for Robert to actually learn Lyanna is in the Tower of Joy. Ned had to actively search for them once the rebellion was over and we have no idea what leads he had or the time he needed. Robert would have access to far less. The only solution I’ve thought of as of yet is having Howland Reed be part of Robert’s little group and do le greendreams stuff, but a) that’s more Jojen’s thing and b) I find it unlikely that, if Howland was at the Trident, he would be anywhere other than right next to Ned.Some other divergences include:>more fractious realm, the North and possibly parts of the Riverlands would be to Rhaegar as Dorne was to Robert in canon >Aegon would openly be a Blackfyre, which may lead to camaraderie between him and Jon as fellow Targaryen bastards>actual Aegon VI being a total cunt while fAegon, while brash, is a pretty nice guy
>>153362926Eh, I know what story I have in mind, but I don't know if I should write it. One, for being a bit fucking bleak. Two, I doubt it well sell for that reason. The story takes place in a cyberpunk fantasy setting following a nameless magic barely an adult who uses an obsolete railgun using his magical energy as a substitute for a charge. Pretty much Shadowrun without the dragons. The thing is, even with magic, no one has any dreams or hopes for anything. He starts out innocent, living in a shack with a cat, and not really caring about anything. But trying to live a normal life is what ruins him. Most of humanity is kept in urban bubbles because the natural world is filled with unexplainable magic phenomena. Only strange, almost alien, primitive people still live there. Most Gods are dreaming for eternity or dead. Ancient mages still live, but they're the worst person to gain the attention of because their thoughts are so different from modern people everything they doesn't seem to make sense. Terrorist organizations are trying to destroy certain locations for no peculiar reason. And aliens have visited but fucked right off when they realized magic was real. As he does worse and worse jobs to keep himself busy or learn more about the world, he gets the attention of some investigators. One recognizes him somehow and his partners tease him about how similar they look. They'd have some close calls catching him before the end where they finally sit down to talk and the protagonist is rich from everything he's done.Turns out, he's his dad. Kid's mom is a dreaming goddess who raped his dad in his sleep. And the protagonist tells him he knew the entire time. He just didn't care because he has no real human attachments. Nothing about the world and how people act makes sense to him. No one, not even the gods, have any reason to live or do anything anymore. That realization and the death of his cat months before the meeting makes him want to destroy everything.

>>153363286From what i remember Ned went to House Dayne since they knew the Sword of Morning was likely with Lyanna since he wasn't with the prince. Big issues for Westeros though>The north is more fractiousI imagine the marriage alliances from canon are annulled or something it's way to obvious that they were the issue for them to be allowed. For the North this means Ned is forced to find another wife (either someone in the North or someone that's a hard ally to the Targs, this could get him Asharra Dayne as a wife i'm sure he wouldn't mind that but..... well it's just gonna make things in the North more troublesome)In the Vale Jon is going to have to name an heir since he's got no kids and no wife to make oneOn the other hand Ned not going to the tower of Joy means that he's not losing some of his top bannerman just to find his sister so..... things might be better long term than canon. The Riverlands probably get fucked the hardest since they are the youngest of the Major noble houses and thus the easiest to replace, the Stormlands might get to keep Stannis as their lord since he just turtled up in the main castle.

What started as a silly idea for a crossover has turned into a novel’s worth of pages upon pages of notes dedicated to scenes and dialogue and character arcs for not only the original story but all the sequels I have planned for it as well. This started ten years ago and I only have the first three chapters written and I keep going back to change them periodically because they’re not perfect.

>>153363446>”we looked for you on the Trident”Yeah, makes sense how Ned would come to that conclusion. Might also have contributed to Ashara’s suicide in canon if she was responsible for her brother’s death by doxxing him, lol.>annulled marriagesWow, that’s a really interesting point I hadn’t thought about. STAB alliance would probably be too dangerous for Rhaegar to allow it to continue. Big implications for Robb, who would now be Robb Rivers. That would definitely cause deep resentment, constantly looking at trueborn sons and thinking “the North would have been mine if not for Rhaegar”. Or would he end up legitimised as Robb Tully, outside of the line of succession? I can imagine Rhaegar might grant them that to try and smooth things over with Ned a little, seeing as the whole Lyanna thing was, from Rhaegar’s point of view, a huge misunderstanding that lead to catastrophe. Not Ned, though. I don’t think any amount of appeasement would make him forgive the guy who kidnapped and raped(?) his sister. If Howland did end up with Robert’s group at the ToJ, he would probably head back to the North via the Narrow Sea and tell Ned that he has a half-Targaryen nephew. I like the idea of Rhaegar being unaware of Jon’s existence, you see. There’s also a case to be made for the Ned/Cat marriage remaining because of Robb, but the Tullys being replaced as Lords Paramount to temper their power, made even easier by Hoster’s death. Maybe House Mooton become LPs due to their Targ loyalty and prominence. Though, if Rhaegar went so far as to revoke paramountcy, I’m not sure Tully would be the one he’d pick when Arryn is borderline extinct and Baratheon is the chief instigator.>Ned marrying AsharaMight be a good way to make Ned calm down, especially if Ashara can convince him of some stuff. I headcanon the Lyanna/Rhaegar thing as a romance at first, but when she learns of the rebellion Rhaegar has to keep her locked away against her will.cont.
>>153370643>Vale successionI’m honestly not sure whether Hoster or Jon should be the one to die. I only started thinking about this a few days ago, but I definitely want one of the rebel LPs dead on the Trident so that Rhaegar can install his own regency for either Harrold Hardyng or Edmure. Arryn’s marriage would be easiest to annul, though, on account of Lysa’s pregnancy issues.>Stormlands LPThis is another place where the regency plot comes in, depending on whether Stannis survives the siege. If Stannis dies, command falls to young Renly, who would probably open the gates and surrender to the Tyrells. This leaves Rhaegar free to install Jon Connington as Renly’s regent to pacify the Stormlands.
