Mace is the target because Nabonidus seems to have marked him as hands off to his minions, but the real target is Wisp as Tinsel is trying to manipulate her into pissing off Nabonidus, without incriminating herself.Wisp sends the Sandman to kill Mace but Ravat is already there to chase it off, and he takes the time to murder Paige for fun.Wisp is despondent over this but Nabonidus sees right through Tinsels scheming and Wisp gets off scot-free.Though it seems that Scuttles is involved in this as he creates Sandmen, it's actually Wisp who constructed that specific Sandman as we see in her hideout.Or not. Scuttles is involved in this and in cahoots with Ravat who has his own schemes, as we'll come to see in Vol 6.
