That's all for today. Next time, Gwen vs. the real Doctor Doom.

This is a particular cool power Gwen rarely uses, is summoning past versions of characters
I think the only other time she does it is herself in GSB
>>
>>153542652
>we will never get a comic where gwen summons iron man doom to help her defeat doctor doom

I don't know if the concept gets any usage beyond this series, but I like the idea that, in a universe with a wide variety of supernatural powers, Victor can roughly profile how Gwen's abilities work. Not enough to extrapolate out to "narrative-focused reality warping", but by all appearances, it's nothing he hasn't seen before.
Also, nice detail with the highlight on her figure in the second panel tapering off to match what her body in the third panel looks like when phasing into the gutter.

I think the way that it works would basically in universe come off as Gwen being a low powered reality warper whose powers manifest in the way they do because she views reality as a comic book.

>you will never have Gwen's ass on your back
Vincent is so lucky bros

>Gwen is a Mets fan
It's all about the Mets baby
Love the Mets

Ooh, that'd be cool. Actually a neat reversal given this encounter

i don't want it to end...

It was a good idea to introduce limits/drawbacks to Gwen's power soon after it's introduced, especially with the seemingly unbeatable win-con she'd found with it. It shows some creative thinking both the limit itself (Gwen cannot slip through panels to get out of a locked room if there is no way she herself can leave that room) and how she comes up with another application to get around it, which is going to the past instead of the future - which in itself might be considered another powerful usage but it's at least restricted to only her own past, or at least that of the comic (and then she probably can't go to any earlier than the start)

I love this bit here where she calls out Dr. Doom's reform as a 'obviously temporary continuity blip'. It's aged well because it really is not long before Doom is back to being a villain, and is another example of high-lighting how comics throughout the years will always have their more bizarre experiments. But it's also an example of Gwen showing she still has difficulty seeing Marvel characters as their own people. I get her Incredulity, it's Doctor Doom there is no way he'd ever realistically stick as a 'good guy', but it's still a choice he as a person is trying to make she's not recognizing.

Oooo, Gwenpool thread, neat. Thanks OP, I still remember how cool it was reading her early books, Marvel truly is shooting themselves into a foot by delegating her to be written by Z tier writers one in every blue moon.

Thank you for storytime op
Got a lot of fun out of Gwen's new powers in this one, liked the early set-up with seeing her show up inexplicably early on and explaining later it was her finding a work-around. The panel-breaks/gutter-space moments continue to be a novel idea, really like the creativity and presentation like the official look at how it is for in-universe observers. Gwen's interactions with Vinnie and Doom were both fun, I like how unusually casual she is with the former despite their history, seems like a mutual sign of respect both are trying to change for the better. For the real Doom Gwen's indignant reaction at Doom being a 'good guy' now and spoiling her plans for becoming a hero is an interesting exchange; Gwen really has come a long way towards respecting the autonomy of Marvel characters but still seems rattled by her 'evil' future. The first signs of her worrying about her longevity appear her as she's desperate to beat the biggest bad she can to prove she has a future even when that biggest bad is trying to be better, just like her.

There's a part of me that wishes the character was retired after Unbelievable. Even if someone used her more correctly I feel like it'd be a hollow retread of what Hastings did in trying to add pathos but ignoring the core of the melancholy that understates the whole run, like when Duggan attempted to clearly harken back to Kelly's Deadpool but missed what made it work. The whole speech Deadpool gives about the cartoon about the squirrel and the coconut and how he's basically that squirrel and his attempts to bettet himself are the coconut and he's started coming to terms with it.

Gwen is kind of the same way. Every attempt she makes to do what she feels she needs to in order to survive early on ends in failure. Her attempt to be a hero is ultimately a failure, her attempt to be try being a criminal is a failure, almosr everything she tries to do ends in failure and she keeps doint it anyway until having to come to terms with the inevitable. She's a loser and a failure but ultimately she's okay with that because she still lived and still had some small impact in the lives of others (both the fans and in universe).

Honestly in a way Unbelievable Gwenpool is a better follow up to Kelly's Deadpool than any actual subsequent Deadpool run except maybe Cable and Deadpool. Which is kind of funny because that ultimately makes her a good Deadpool variant but in the ways that made the character good and not the bastardized version.

I feel like this missed a really easy point. She believes that Doom turning good has to be a blip that will be reverted, but doesn't connect that to her own sacrifice? She doesn't consider that her own refusal to become a villain is just a blip? That she's the Iron Lad to future Gwen's Kang?

Well put, and I understand the sentiment, though I can't agree on retiring her. There are stories left untold with Gwen, ideas Hastings had he had to speed-run in the last issue that could be fully realized. There are stories that can be told with Gwen that can't be told with any other character dealing in escapism, the unique meta-perspective she has of other characters, commentary on comics/fiction, and tons of personal baggage that could be delved into.

I like the angle that she is someone who has to live and accept her own failure, and find happiness in the impact she made along the way and the few friends she has, and Unbelievable's ending works best because her run is indeed cut short as a result of her sacrifice. But there is too much potential Gwen even now to never use her again. Even if she's never been used as well in 10 years there's hope.
