>>153568979Ahh, the pleasures of an inoffensive artbook. Surely nobody will be the victim of a brutal killing today.
the art book has a bunch of these useless pages, which I'll skip.
oh Stan, if only you had access to more modern scholarship back then. >>153569072very nice
>>153569088Useless in what sense?
too bad he doesn't explain here how he does the brushwork for the titles and screams
>>153569112they're just a close up of the art, with a transparent page with the title of the chapter. also some of them have problems with 4chan for some reason, they give an error and can't be uploaded. I think it has to do with the files being .webp originally.
>>153569210So when he draws the panels, he draws them full sized and then they edit them to fit in the panels?
>>153569199>I think it has to do with the files being .webp originally. In that case you should be able to open them in any image program, save them under a new name as the proper file type, and get it to work. That said, I agree with you that those pages are hardly essential.
>>153569106>the author portrait on the back of the book is Sergio
>>153569229>After the cover is inked, I pass it on to colorist Tom Luth to fuck my shit up.
>>153569323I had used a program to convert them in bulk, I think, so maybe the problem lies there. let's see if this one works.
>>153569106>middle left panelThats a pretty good miyamoto musashi
>it's time to unsheathe my sword!
I do miss the more detailed, realistic backgrounds.
>he is absolutely loyal to his lord https://youtu.be/jJZ--fcguDY
>>153569547Well, he is expected to be loyal to his lord (if he's a hatamoto).>The Samurai follows "bushido" <the way of the warrior>Nope! That's just some 1700s historical revisionism/ an attempt by pencil pusher samurai to make his profession seem more glorious than it is, coupled with further revisionism from 1800s, 1930s and the entire clusterfuck that was the entertainment industry of mid- to late 1900s.
>>153569322No, that's just to showcase the size difference, he draws an entire page at 10x15'' and then it gets reduced to 6.625x10.25''
>>153569012>time to unsheathe my sword!>pulls down hakama
at least these two were spared.
this one is fantastic.
>>153569720What are you talking about? Goat man Ittou had his own ending in his own manga.
if they have to go with colors, they should've gone with watercolors.
>>153569665Bottom right about to save the timeline>>153569720Funnily enough I just bought the two new Lone Wolf and Cub printings. Looks like they're doing two and a half volumes per book. Looking forward to the unflipped art.
>>153569771well, we never saw them again...
>>153569806never had any problem with the flipped art, they did a great job cleaning and typesetting it.
I love this little story.
The watercolors are beautiful
>>153569102This one is also in one of the previous volumes, isn't it?
>>153569960I think it was a different one?
>>153569747It's amazing that back then every samurai carried his own personal banner (or a Horo which is even more weird).
>>153569309>no computer coloring,no 60 # glossy stock. This was flat, four- color printing on cheap news print for a dimeI reminded of all the shitty recolors marvel and dc have done over the years that people in the shelf thread complain about.
>>153570081I figured out why it seemed familiar. Anon scanned his Art of v1 for Enma's 18.5 thread:https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/153076661/#q153082226
>>153570227oh, there you go! no harm in posting that one again.
the most unsettling thing in this whole series is the bottom left guy.
...strawberry grows on trees!?
>>153570341Oh yeah, looks like he escaped out of a analogue horror story.
>>153570341Looks like bottom-left would fit right in over in the new Star Fox game
>>153569547>>he is absolutely loyal to his lordUnless they're a Geishu councilor in which case their first loyalty is to whoever is paying them the most.
>>153569387>>153569408>>153569431Neat seeing the Mifune mon start as a tree then streamlined into its final abstract form.
>>153569387Those cloud pants are pretty cool.
>>153569458Funny how in the first Noriyuki and Tomoe story there's also a rhino thug, similar to this one. I guess Stan always liked the idea of a rhino samurai and thus Gen was eventually born.
>>153569484I can't believe Gen is fucking dead
put away that jar, anon.
>>153569190I've tried learning how to draw with a fountain pen. It's genuinely difficult, and I have respect for Stan just for being master with such a difficult tool.

this is all for today. it's always fascinating to look back at the early stuff to see how different it was. I don't know about you, but I feel encouraged by reading stan's artistic process, it's almost as if we could do it too. anyway, our journey is almost over. tune in tomorrow for the big finale, SENSO!
>>153570825Poor Jotaro.
>>153571110>It's a good way to introduce kids to Japanese culture without traumatizing them."Lol", said Feudal Japan "lmao even!"
>>153571100yeah, I forgot to paste the text in...

Arbutus berry in English apparently.
>>153569955Imagine losing to a ghost.
>>153570526I want the adventures of Miyamoto Usagi, The Ghost Who Walks>>153570637Closest we have to a Tomoe turnaround, giving us the ability to understand how Stan conceives of her hair in terms of shapes
>>153569797God this looks so good. Such a brilliant use of white and lighter colors when defining outlines and depth of field. I think Stan's artwork is developed around B&W so a lot of colorings end up sort of garish and cluttered since they're adding visual information where there isn't really meant to be any. But this style preserves the use of negative space and lets the important colors and details stand out.
>>153569871I so much prefer this version of Adachi Plains. I never much cared for Hikiji singling out Usagi and the head. Just swatting him aside before continuing with the battle and it's his bannermen that actually zero in on what Usagis doing.
https://strawpoll.com/61gD9r4x5ZwWe still doing best girl vote? I feel like it hasn't been posting it in new threads. At present Tomoe leads by five
>>153570266Hm. I genuinely feel that Demon Mask loses a lot of its threatening aura when it's not in a stark black and white kimono. But that's just me.
>>153571800What? Neon pink is not treatning enough for you?
Here's a commission Stan did for a dentist about 10 years ago
>>153571191Thank you, it will serve me well. The day before Senso always feels surreal. The storytime is almost over, and it feels like we began months ago and only a few days back at the same time. Every year it seems to last longer and yet somehow ends faster. What an amazing paradox.Time isn't holding up, time isn't after us.Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.

Very fitting.
>>153572191It's crazy how all the non-Leo Turtles get ±200 panels. A big part of Leo's advantage is also those 3 short stories he had almost entirely to himself, so actual crossovers seem much more fair for each turtle.
>>153569229Lol, there were a shitload of X-men spinoffs back around '04, weren't there?

>>153571110>>153571130>>153571152So, as a child of a samurai family, I had relatives insist that I consume appropriate media. They didn't just want me growing up with glorified toy commercials like Pokemon, and Gundam. One title I remember them literally arguing about was Uchu Senkan Yamato. The right wing types considered it mandatory. The reiwa peacenics thought it was a terrible choice;.So they made a compromise. Uchu Senkan Yamato and Macross, but I also had to watch Grave of the Fireflies and Barefoot Gen. I was also directed >Back then, Oda Nobunaga would have you killed on the spot if you cry watching this.based on the old adage about the shoguns. I was about 5 at the time.

>>153572274I was kinda surprised that the balance wasn't super tilted in his favor, too. One interesting thing I'd like to note is that Raph consistently fell behind in terms of "solo" panels; a good percentage of his count comes from the group shots.

>>153573241Eh, that's kind of a bunch of hand-waving that it forgets immediately. The re-make, as full of stupid shit as it is when it has to invent something new, arguably was more genuine when it has the Yamato rescure Gamilus from an external threat and ends the war that way.
>>153575154I liked 2199.
>>153575189It's a good distilation of the good parts of the old series, which is mostly from the first TV series with two or three ideas from the inferior later stuff. >>153576920Well fuck, everyone's gonna die tomorrow
>>153576715I think that level of selectivity in regards to media is weird. Like yeah giving a kid a TV/tablet with zero supervision is irresponsible but having to get approval to watch multiple family members to watch a cartoon seems like taking things too far. Semi-related but as a kid my Grandmother thought Pokemon was Satanic and banned me from watching/playing it. Weirdly she had no issue with letting me watch CSI as a 5 year old.
>>153576715Look, you don't to let a little kid watch Reservoir Dogs that's one thing, but getting your nickers in a twist of cartoons is an asinine level of overreaction and frankly detachment from reality.

>One of the most extraordinary mammals ever recorded can be found skipping through the fields and mountains all over Japan: the elusive Lepus Ronini. The meddling rabbit.>While not exactly rare, this species does not claim territory, constantly wandering as if looking for trouble, hence their name. In a span of a year, they can cross half the country, only to turn around and get back to where they started, or anywhere else, really. That made longer observations rather difficult without a dedicated metsuke and is the main reason why this adorable white furred bunny managed to hide its secrets for so long. The free roaming nature of Lepus Ronini goes as far as males not helping with raising their offspring. After mating, they set off, not letting them be burdened by anything.>Remarkably, the meddling rabbit can form a temporary symbiotic bond with the common Japanese rhino, whose bulk offers more safety, while the rabbit uses his superior senses to help the massive, clumsy mammal find his favorite snack: wild pickles. But don't be fooled that without the help from a rhino the meddliing rabbit is helpless. While small, Lepus Ronini are fierce and agile warriors. When in danger, they will bite off a willow branch and use it as an improvised weapon, with deadly accuracy. There are records of them fighting off hordes of cats, bats, dogs, bears and even rabid wolves without even taking a scratch. There is suprising power hidden in those long eared bunnies. Scientists have even taken those resilient creatures to space, where they seemed to thrive in zero-g environment.>Their one weakness seems to be constantly getting outsmarted by foxes. Because frankly, the meddling rabbit is kind of an idiot. Well, nature does not play favorites - you can't have it all, can you?Happy 100th birthday to Sir David Attenborough.

The gibberish word pikachu must have sounded like what gen z/alpha brainrot slang sounds like to us now and the speed at which Pokemon became a pop icon must have been alarming. You had the perfect storm of things to make granny have an alarmist panic about. CSI at least existed in a sphere she was familiar with. As the Senso thread continues it's sink into 404 Autobump, I'm posting this here. Gotta go back to doing work (got a two-page spread to finish pencilling today) but wanted to mark the end of the storytime in some way, so here's a drawing of Usagi fighting his most iconic foe as he utters his most iconic catchphrase

>>153589595>JOTARO was the sword-plundering nemesis all along
At the end of Usagi no Jikan* I wish to announce that I, pervy Keikoanon, still await the time my evil desires can be fulfilled (it's actually mostly a parody).'cause that one guy said his friend might be interested

>>153588266I don't think Kenichi and Mariko have a sexless marriage since their's wasn't an arranged marriage and they clearly care about each other on some level even if Mariko still isn't over Usagi. But that raises the question of why they havn't had another kid besides Jotaro. A question to which I have two theories:>Theory 1: Kenichi is infertileThey tried to have more kids but it didn't work, and since Mariko is clearly fertile she's not the issue, which leaves some problem with Kenichi's plumbing as the culprit. At least he can bust inside his bitch wife as much as he wants in this scenario>Theory 2: Kenichi and Mariko intentionally didn't have another kid incase said kid looked nothing like Jotaro and that tipped people off that Jotaro is a bastardLess a fan of this one since (basically) Everyone Knows™ but it'd fit how Kenichi stuck with a less-than-ideal situation for the benefit of Mariko and Jotaro. Maybe Kenichi's pullout game is immaculate, maybe Mariko takes it up the ass. I can't say for certain but Kenichi isn't painting Mariko's womb white in this scenario. Did I miss something? What do (You) think?
>>153590056It could also be that Mariko doesn't want to do it and Kenichi respects her decision or maybe they both don't feel like doing it, Kenichi because he realizes he'd be becoming dick buddies with Usagi and Mariko out of guilt/psychological infertility.Maybe Kenichi tried at one point, noticed Mariko physically recoiling from it and bracing, but then Kenichi decided he didn't want to inflict something like that to a woman he genuinely loves.
>>153590056>>153590133Could also just be it hasn't happened to happen yet. For all we know, off-camera, right now, Mariko is impregnated, and if we saw them during Wherewhen or Senso, there'd be some Jotaro half-siblings going around
>>153590056>they clearly care about each other on some levelWhich could be Kenichi unwilling to see his childhood crush (who always preferred Usagi in every way) suffer and her gratitude for what he's done for her. Maybe it's because it's when Usagi is in town, but they always seem sad in each other's presense if they aren't worrying about Jotaro.
>>153590056Real question is why would anybody have just one kid when in the Usagi Yojimbo uniiverse, people get killed by the dozens on a daily basis. Do these funny animals just want their bloodlines to end?
>>153590133That's a possibility but I don't really see Mariko going from having sex with Usagi in a field to being so sex-averse she wouldn't fuck her own husband. >Kenichi decided he didn't want to inflict something like that to a woman he genuinely loves. On that line of thought, maybe he caught the clap or the feudal equivalent on his bender after the Great Dogora Humiliation and didn't want to give it to Mariko.
>>153590056Related to the infertility there is also the possibility that they tried having another kid but they didn't make it. Never forget just how bad infant mortality rates were and that isn't even getting into the fact of being poor villagers who depending on the harvest and season can be greatly lacking in nutrition to carry a baby.

>>153590467
>>153590341That could be it. Jotaro would have been born while Usagi was in Mifune's service but shortly after that war broke out between Hikiji and Mifune, which caused a famine at least one year when Hikiji stole most of their food for the war. I could see Kenichi and Mariko agreeing too not have a kid until the village sufficiently recovered, and because Hikiji is shit at managing his own lands, that could take a while.

Welcome back to the final death rattle tally! Only one scream found in today's storytime:>*Alien noise*: 6Various stats:>Total death screams in the official storytime: 1899>Total death screams with extras (Stan other comics, The Usagi crossovers drawn by other artists, Sergio's Samurai comic): 1923>Number of skulls in total (+ extra): 475 (+11)Top 3 death screams (+ones found in extras):>1st place: Urk!/Gurk!/Hurk! with 199 counts>2nd place: Yarg!/Argh! with 116 (+1) counts>3rd place: Uuh!/Ugh!/Uhn!/Uhk!/Ugf! with 105 countsSee attachment for the tally. >>153591116>Kofuyu was 16. I am 16. What difference is there in our souls?Princess Yuki was a good character
>>153589617Beautiful, drawfriend. Thanks for all your art this year!
(Senso thread 404'd before I had a chance to post)This year's storytimes were my introduction to the series. It's been tons of fun reading along with you guys and joining in with edits and stuff. Thank you for sharing this lovely comic and thank you for the company.
>>153590056>Did I miss something? What do (You) think?I think they have a sexless marriage. The first time Usagi returns to the village it's plainly clear that Mariko still has a huge girlboner for Usagi and basically married Kenichi to save Usagi's kid from disgrace. It reads totally obvious to me.
>>153591172>*Alien noise*: 6If you look carefully, that guy says GURK!. Many of the aliens' cries are actually intewlligible; e.g. one of them clearly shouts "bats!" when the Komori ninja attack the cylinder.
>>153591413All the aliens are written in English, the lettering just goes bonkers to make it look weird
>>153588404(Some final mask autism from last thread)On the contrary: it's perfectly clear that the mask Hikiji wears in Senso is a *different one* than the one he wears at Adachigahara in the various versions. Stan is bizarrely attentive to detail at times and clearly draws the Adachi mask as a somen with a happuri-like bottom half (there may be a specific Japanese term for this which I don't know), a cutout for the mouth and chin, whereas in Senso he's wearing what's called a mempo, a half-mask covering the lower 3/4 of the face from the nose down, with a round opening for the mouth only.In fact, you can tell without too much trouble that he's wearing a completely different set of armor in the field in Senso: the most obvious tell is that instead of the characteristic Date Masamune huge asymmetric crescent, the kabuto in Senso has horns. This isn't really surprising; Hikiji is one of the great lords of the land and would be able to afford to own more than one suit of armor, not to mention that the first, "Date" suit is twenty years old by the time of the latter battle. This will no doubt be my last bit of detail autism for this year's storytime. Thanks to Murderanon and everybody!
>>153591484I thought the same, but in some cases (Tomoe and Usagi charging into the other cylinder and surprising the aliens, off the top of my head) I can't make out their dialogue at all, so I decided to express myself conservatively.
>>153590893May Jei cut your evil from the world!
>>153591533That's a good breakdown anon. But what conclusion can we draw from it? Because the two sides are as of now- HIKIJI?! was retconned to being a furry animal-man with the flashback issue in IDW and no amount of us being LUTHED will change that- or HIKIJI was NOT retconned to being a furry animal-man and is still the only persistent homo sapiens in a world of otherwise furry animal-people, and we just got LUTHED into believing otherwise. The lord of the dark sun's different armor sets in Senso really make it complicated, especially since Senso is still technically "the end" but was obviously conceived and released half a decade before the IDW issue. What is Sakai's endgame here?
>>153591260General Ikeda
>>153591622His silhouette is pretty clearly human in Senso, IMO
>>153590893This is the kind of Evil Jei takes care off.
>>153591413If I have to start deciphering Alien gurks and uhhs and gyaas and arghs, I'll be here all night trying to recreate their characters, guessing if they should be unique or go with their existing equivalent. I would also be debating if they should count as do they go to Enma's jigoku or somewhere else?
>>153591670General WHO? You must be confused anon, nobody here but us ignorant peasants.
>>153591622He's still human in Senso, I'm still surprised Stan hasn't retconed that yet despite Luth's coloring job. Still confirms my theory that all human men are evil .>>153590589Hebi, the largest Lord in the setting, did just eat Hikji. That's all that needs to be. >>153589617I kneel.
>>153590516The Martians value precision and efficiency, so the tech they brought was presumably measured to the threat. It's not stated explicitly in the original novel, but if you read between the lines, they likely have better tech available than what they brought to swat the turn-of-the century English flies
Every time I read Senso during these threads, I always wonder, where's Ishida? Is he okay? Did he and Sanshobo team up and unleash righteous fury on the Invaders?
>>153591751I think a similar sentiment was brought up during the 1950s film. The reason the Martians had shields was because a consulting general believed that Amercia's Post World War 2/Korean War arsenal was more than enough to beat the Martians even before the Atom Bomb was brought into discussion.
>>153590855
>>153591783Well yeah, but as I said, it's implied in the original novel, too
>>153591751>presumably measured to the threatI don't know about that. They pretty much walk right into one them being killed by an artillery piece and then run away before building their "black smoke" launchers. Seems like they underestimated the opposition they'd face. After that they start gassing everything as if worried about getting surprised again. Then they do get surprised again by the warship, which kills two or three of them.
>>153591817Farewell Thunderchild!
>>153591622>What is Sakai's endgame here? It's impossible to say, but for lack of other evidence I'm going to agree with Anon and the worthy Anon in saying that the IDW recolor is most likely just a gaffe of an elderly Tom Luth and that Hikiji remains human. As much as Stan still hides Hikiji's face in Senso, as they point out he also does go to some pains to still present him as human (silhouette, fingers, Hebi's comment that he was an abomination). To me, that's a strange decision, I don't really get the point of both hiding and revealing it, but it remains the strongest assumption.
>>153591751>>153591783>>153591801>martians keep invading>we barely beat them back>they use some kind of amnesia device and history soft-resets>they try again every hundred years or so>we keep barely beating them back>martian autism won't allow them to use overwhelming force they have to make sure every little tiny raygun is optimized PERFECTLY for their planned scenario which can tolerate no deviation whatsoever>good old human adaptability means we are forever locked in a perpetual cycle of being invaded, barely winning, getting amnesia'd, and invaded again
>>153591751I mean you say that but at the same time the martians blunder into shit consistently that gets them before they panic and adapt in other ways, using smoke grenades and deliberately spreading weed and gas and using human shields. Its also just a ridiculous proposition on its face to suppose that this race fleeing complete destruction of their planet's biosphere, a total last ditch chance for survival migration/invasion, aren't bringing their A-game at all times. The martians are the last of a dying race, there shouldn't be any>oh, this is plentyit should be>we are leaving nothing to chance and no opportunities for failure, bring the best possible equipment we can shove into the ships, force the people to sleep cheek to jowl if necessary, and win as hard as possiblewhich is why them invading england (and japan) also makes sense because nobody really gives a shit about england (or feudal japan) and being an island nation nobody inherently feels threatened by having them on their borders to launch a preemptive counter-attack
>>153591860I don't think he's willing to change it after all these years. Maybe as a simple call back to his early works and concepts?
>>153590589I think this is legitimately the first comment I've ever seen that was less than 100% hyped about the way Hebi went out. It's not just a great character moment, it's also somehow 100% in line with chambara aesthetics and themes even though it's about a giant snake biting a guy in half and breaking his spine by smashing him repeatedly into a stone floor, then getting zapped by an alien ray.
>>153591884>nobody really gives a shit about england>at the peak of the British Empire
>>153590593See >>153572956 check 2023 lewd files, there might be more in the other files
>>153591817I'm speaking more about the leaders on Mars and the planning they did. Those are the troops on the ground, and their actions are sensible in the moment -- the Thunderchild is suprising, because it's a prototype, faster, more agile, and with bigger guns than any warship previously built. It's a new threat that's not accounted for by the original plan, so they attempt to capture it, presumably to allow the leaders to assess whether it means a change in plans. And it might have done so, as they apparently start uncorking a flying machine soon after. All of it implies they watched us through their telescopes and knew exactly what our planet's militaries were presently capable of, and built their plans to match, and to succeed even in the face of a few surprises. Their one real mistake was not seeing diseases through their telescopes and bringing their ancient medical tech.>>153591875>martian autism won't allow them to use overwhelming forceI think it's more about cylinder size and weight>>153591884England was the greatest world power at the time, not some backwater. And they had to plan for the likelihood that some of the tech they send will be captured, so they send it over in waves starting with tripods, and then adding flying machines later after Thunderchild. They brought exactly enough power for an overwhelming, guaranteed victory. And the whole thing would have worked, too. We get saved in the end by a total fluke that would not be repeated if they can afford a second strike.
>>153591934>England was the greatest world power at the time>laughs in france>laughs in rising star german>>153591897>>nobody really gives a shit about englandExactly, everyone wants them to fucking die so they can steal british shit and most of the force is policing abroadHell, the irish would probably side with the martians
>>153591751>>153591884One thing the book is a heavy-handed allegory about muh colonialism, so the invaders blundering but adapting with superior technology and every native victory being too small and coming at too high a cost fits.A small British army was wiped out by Zulus with spears and flintlocks because of their careless blundering and Zulu initiative 20 years before Wells wrote the book, but the Zulus badly lost the war because even that first victory killed a signifigant fraction of Zulu men.
>>153591759>where's Ishida? Is he okay?Unfortunately, Senso is canonically set at some point in the 1620s, meaning that the Great Genna Martyrdom and Great Edo Martyrdom either just occurred, or are about to.Mainline Usagi is actually doing a bit of Ye Olde Japan with the kirishitans, as the year there as of Ten Thousand Plums/Tabo is 1607, but Christianity actually wasn't outlawed by the shogunate until 1613 and full-blown kakure kirishitans weren't a thing until after the Shimabara Rebellion in 1638, so things are likely to be even more feudal for our boy Ishida than they were in real life.
>>153591956Germany totally failed to maintain a naval arms race with Britain, giving up on it only two years before WWI.
>>153591967>Heavy-handed allegory about muh colonialismDid someone on twitter tell you that shit? It's about evolution and man's place in the universe more than colonialism.
>>153591980NTA and chill out, a book can be about two things at once.
>>153591979Too bad a navy doesn't help against an invasion that drops out of space to the inland of a country, an army with combined arms specialization does.Assuming the whole navy returns home, gives up entirely on the empire, that just means they manage to defend the coasts and major riverlines but the inner cities like birmingham and all the farmland is toast.
>>153592013Yeah, the narrator mentions that. It's probably why Thunderchild was able to immediately pounce like it did; the whole navy was looking for a chance to do something.
>>153591974You're right and that's also assuming he didn't get killed during the invasion itself, though depending on how badly the Shogun's armies got decimated during Senso, it might buy our Inspector a few more years.
>>153591890Sure, but then why hide his face? He's already shown it once. If he's committed to the bit, he could just go for it.

>>153594521Id say she has.

>>153594521Tomoe wins most years, actually. It's amazing what staying power she has despite not appearing for over a decade. It's just that most discussion in the storytimes tends to be about Chizu since she's made more appearances more recently and her personal story-arc hasn't stalled out.
Since I forgot to say it in Senso thread, go and listen to war of the worlds musical, it's great!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93JArmMY3n4I was debating myself on where to post this link during the storytime, but no moment really felt right.

>>153594712You're way too angry about this, anon. All I meant was it sounds like nonsense put forward by somebody who didn't read the book carefully or at all. Which is the kind of thing I'd associate with twitter. Or maybe reddit. The "culture war" shit is all you >inferring
>>153594593Seems more likely that a Miyamoto emigrates to the US in the early 20th century and bangs a white girl there.
>>153594721I'll never relax
Thinking about it more, I really dig Senso as a wacky Elseworld story, but I'm a lot less enthused about the idea of it being a potential canon ending to the series. I think a major part of that is how Usagi is at his absolute worst here. He's regressed so hard as a character it's insane, he's easily the worst part about the story. Usagi trying to get it on with Tomoe, IMMEDIATELY after her husband's death, is a level of gross that would be unthinkable with regular Usagi. In a story where everyone else is getting fitting, bombastic ends to their story, Usagi himself feels like he got the short end of the stick. It's just not satisfying to kill him off right as he hits rock bottom. But all that is a lot easier to accept if it's actually not meant to be canon.
>>153594593It's rare but sometimes East Asians can have naturally brown hair. https://soranews24.com/2017/10/28/naturally-brown-haired-osaka-student-sues-government-for-forcing-her-to-dye-her-hair-black/>>153594753Personally I don't mind it as much. Usagi just absolutely crashing out feels very fitting to that grounded, uh realism (in a comic strip about an anthromorphic ronin rabbit occasionally quelling yokai puppets) that Stan can inject into his setting. And as other anons have mentioned, there's some very tantalizing inferences that can be made about just what went down in the yet-unseen Wedding Of Tomoe Ame. Finally, we all know who the real best boy is anyway so fuck that meddling deadbeat.
>>153594753In my interpretarion, Senso (and by extension Wherewhen) is canon, but only as a mostly fictional story in the Space Usagi timeline. The real events were lost to time, so they thrown in the Martians (which don't sound so ridiculous for someone living in SU times) to give their famous ancestor a proper heroic closure. That's how I choose to understand those last few pages set in the far future. It's further supported by the issue in which Akemi is reading a manga about Usagi fighting Jei in a tower full of Yokai to rescue some kidnapped girl, which also never happened.

You FREAKS are truly insane. After doing some scouring last night (and I still have some threads to review) here is where the 2026 content stands at. Just to see what it would look like, I removed the pictures I shared from The Land Of Dragons and the count was still roughly 200 files and 20mbs larger than 2024's, and that year had the two Usagi Yojimbo RPG rulebook PDFs padding its file size. The 2026 folder also doesn't hold any of the supplemental Sakai comics that were shared. If we put those in there the file count shoots up to over 800 and the folder size clocks in at a respectable +600mbs.

>>153594843I go with the interpretation that WhereWhen/Senso/Space Usagi is an entirely separate timeline created by Dr. WhereWhen, and not the mainline future.
>>153594896Weebs of /co/! Of 4chan! My meddlers! I seein your eyesthe same fear that would take the best girl from me. A year may come when the wit of Anon fails, when we forsake our drawfriends, and break all bonds of counting stupid shit in the comic, butit was not this year. An hour of ragebait and culture wars, when the Yearly Usagi Yojimbo Storytime comes crashing down, butit is not this year! This year we posted content! By all that you hold dear on this Mongolian basket weaving forum, I bid you keep up, you FREAKS!
>>153594896Damn. I really felt like we had some good conversations too. This was a great year.
>>153595251I just wish new guys had asked more feudal history questions, always fun to look shit up and write about how Feudal Japan was even worse than chambara paints it as.
>>153594843Honestly, I'd buy that. Space Mariko winning is still bullshit, though.
>>153594896I need to contribute next year.
>>153595275>It was even worse than a chambara, it was – may Allah forgive me for uttering this word – a feudal Japan.
>>153594521Neat pulp Tomoe, you know ironically the primal and savage world of a Conan style world is less miserable that Feudal Japan there Usagi the barbarian surely would hook up with Tomoe of the easter isles.
>>153594631Tomoe wins because she's quite kino in her own right and you could tell Usagi wanted very much to remain with her. So all these years later she remains all powerful.
>>153593057Jotaro sees THIS post Senso?
>>153594631Chizu did win the last couple of years in a row, but I will agree that some of it is probably because we haven't seen Tomoe in a new comic in many years. I'm also glad that Mayumi has built up respect over the years, whether it be Venom Kashira/Meddle Gear or her being a tragic likable character that impacted Usagi.
>>153595665I thought Mayumi and Usagi had fun chemistry together, and it was a shame her presence alongside the meddler was so brief. Meanwhile Tomoe is a wonderful character I love, but she has like negative chemistry with Usagi
