Nah it's pretty fucking bad. The indecision in color scheme between black and white suit/gold and red as well as the pattern on the legs looks tacky as fuck and does not match the fact that MJ was known for stylish fashion and looks throughout the 80's. It's pretty fucking bad and incongruous with everything else about her. The only good thing is that perhaps a suit and tie look does look good in some cases, and the sunglasses do fit her character. But everything else is godawful.

That Adam Hughes cover? If you mean costume design, then yeah, makes sense one is superior considering it was made by some guy who was just hired because he was cheap and Marvel doesn't have any talent now. But Adam Hughe's art has taken a dramatic nosedive in recent years anyway.

BND crew do not know how and most don't want to know how to write MJ post OMD, they just don't want her near Peter and whatever nonsense they have cooked up for the castrated Peter Pan they made him.
So everyone is written out of characters established for decades, can't tell when someone is possessed or disguised as them when prior even a fucking clone couldn't fool them, and everyones relationships are flighty, fraguke and forgettable. The ultimate bachelor fantasy the Gen X writers want to keep reliving.

No one wants to hear this but all of Peter's girlfriends are barely characters. This is a world where the most independently developed girlfriend/sex partner he's ever had was created by Dan Slott. You can't ruin Gwen or MJ because they do not exist outside the context of Peter Parker and it becomes brutally obvious when they're paired with anyone else.

I can see those points being the case, but even so screw all of that man. Reboots often suck ass, but it's better to just reboot it than slowly murdering and desecrating the story.

>>153591951
Alright, they may be intrinsically bound to Peter, but even so they had their own personalities and impact in the story. Some people liked them, some people hated them, but they were meaningful. Gwen's death was a historical moment in comics in general, and MJ's resistance to Peter being Spider-Man added some conflict to the story, IMO.

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with one character being bound to another, it's just how protagonists usually are, the story revolves around them.

By making her completely detached from Peter they made a character people both resented and did not care enough for on her own. I feel like if they really wanted to make her have more independency, this is not the correct way to do so.

Did Greg Land draw this? Her face has that uncanny value effect his traced porn illustrations typically have in an offputting way.

Besides that, yeah, her costume is pretty bad and bland at best.

It didn't help that Spider-Editorial has officially run her introductory phrase "Face it, Tiger, you just hit the jackpot." completely into the ground now and even redditors appear to be fatigued by the 60th Anniversary MJW solo title even with JMD and JDM as creative duo to the point I think there should be a moratorium put on that phrase (or at least 'Tiger' and 'Jackpot' coming out of her mouth for dialogue for at least the next decade).

Jackpot is the laziest name they could have given her, the powers were lame and done better with Ben 10's Omnitrix and Dial-H-for-Hero.

Then there is the fact there were ALREADY 3 or 4 pre-existing Jackpots that didn't mitigate confusion (a mistake Editorial learned nothing from when making her the All-New Venom).

Paul Rabin being the creator of the Jackpot gauntlets using his Mayan glyph magic CERTAINLY didn't help especially with them still being an item at the time and him being mission control led to theories about that being foreshadowing that he had magically brainwashed her with hypnotic suggestions or something and how she was weirdly hostile towards Peter since this was also around the Zeb Wells ASM "What Did Peter Do?" mystery box that went nowhere with further ragebait like MJ trashing Peter by equating Ben's to the omnicide of Paul's home dimension and calling him (Peter) "selfish" while throwing "Great Responsibility" in his face.

The writer for the Black Cat/Jackpot desperate attempt to boost Jackpot's marketability had MJ and Felicia shit on Peter as a pathetic whiny loser whose obsession with responsibility being a turn-off was orders up top from editorial and they didn't even give her context for they were being so bitchy behind Peter's back her marching orders were just both of them trashing him.
>>
>>153592336
>foreshadowing that he had magically brainwashed her with hypnotic suggestions or something
Marvel's never going to address the can of worms they opened with the children being 'chains' to bind her are they? At least not until the current responsible editors finally leave and Dead Language gets the Claremont treatment for #200.

In short, he was believed to be Marv Wolfman's self-insert who married Donna Troy because of the suspiciously similar physical resemblance between him and the character, was written as a "Stop Having Fun" Creator's Pet (who was always right), and married a younger character additionally, the SECOND Wolfman left The New Teen Titans book the other writers taking over IMMEDIATELY had Terry and Donna divorce and then killed him off.
>>
>>153591872
Whenever I lurk on reddit to get a sense of how casuals feel about what's happening in the comics the defenses I usually see for Jackpot and VenoMJ are just calling those who dislike it as incels, misogynists, having mommy issues, etc if any criticism comes to Wells' era MJ to now.
>>
>>153588787
The whole idea of making MJ a superhero is retarded. Like she could have a mini series - or even an ongoing - on her own without her being a superhero.
Look and Lois Lane, she's had a few mini-and-maxi-series every now and then, and had an ongoing last for like 20 years. What were they about? Lois and her adventures as a reporter and her connection to Superman.

MJ could have spy adventures, deal with the superhero community, have some drama in her modeling, and have romantic tension with Spider-Man. That's a good enough idea for a comic without giving her superpowers.
>>
>>153592452
>Look at Lois Lane
They gave her powers too though
>>
>>153592336
It is fucking awful, but at least you can justify that the original Jackpots were just fakeout that make you think it is MJ as a superhero and have been put away boxes, so at least it is in-house recycling.
I can't believe anyone involved actually believes this is a good idea though.
>>
>>153592452
Imagine MJ running a podcast or something just interviewing Superheroes. Play into her once very prominent social strengths and just have a series with flashbacks and assorted commentary of a large gallery.
>>
>>153592430
I can't imagine casuals defending the Wells run, it's pretty universally panned even if just for muh Kamala etc.
>>
>>153588787
Not even close.
Get rid of the white sleeves and just make the top half all red with a hint of gold instead of having the weird white and black part or make the white and black part more bustier/tuxedo-esque to go with a casino theme.
>>
>>153592458
Not in the same way.
Sure in her solo series from the 50s-70s there would be a few issues where she'd get superpowers, but they'd be way outnumbered by issues where she's just girl reporter Lois Lane. And she'd lose them at the end of each story. (I don't think any 'Lois gets powers' story got a full issue, back then they'd just be one of three stories in an issue)

And in Superman's more recent comics she briefly got powers as Superwoman. She lost them, though.
And she never had a solo series as 'Superwoman,' though. That was just a plot line in Superman's comics for a bit.

I'm not against exploring and expanding on MJ as a character without Peter. They're not as intrinsically tied together as say, Reed and Sue. At least not anymore. The problem is they insist on having MJ around Peter despite not being Peter's love interest. Peter can't explore other options because MJ is still a major supporting character in his world and MJ can't develop because her world still revolves around Peter and they'll never try to separate them because they know all the fans want Peter and MJ together so they'll milk the teasing for all it's worth. They need to either put them back together or bite the bullet and actually separate them for a short while

The issue is that OMD was such an absolute catastrophe that it undermines the very back to basics bachelor craving the gen x BND crew wanted to write.
You have a canon that relies on the devil winning and continuing to win to persist. Our main characters souls are actively screaming on every page, and it will continue to keep coming up and undermining any plot they do.
This has to be either ignored which flies in the face of the rest of the franchise treating MJ as THE soulmate, or you have to treat it as the fireworks factory we are never going to get to. We can't explore other options, because the driver committed manslaughter at the start and its shadowing the journey now, either address it and separate them or put them back together. Nobody is going to buy Shay's, Carlie's or whomever they throw.
>>
>>153592371
They'd divorced or separated while Wolfman was still writing Titans and he'd been written out of comics years ago when John Byrne suddenly brought him back in an issue of Wonder Woman just to kill him and both of his kids, one of which was also Donna's.

Someone here posted a photo that showed he had more of a physical resemblance to the editor of Titans than to Wolfman.

Everybody doesn't understand that 20 years figure, or how superhero comics or soap operas work. Side stories and arcs can go on for much longer as new villains or arcs can interrupt others and sometimes last months or years. So a large portion of that time being spent is just on the story rather than developing the characters. A good story should have both. But sometimes that isn't the focus. It wasn't solely all about MJ.
