Honestly i feel like a lot of complex recipes are just being pretentious, you put in so many things they just blend to accomplish a similar effect as using a handful of properly chosen ingredients. Good gin or vodka, paired with ice or soda and a slice of lime or yuzu twist is fantastic. A good whiskey or bourbon only needs some ice. Same with cooking, you can achive the same results using sea salt, a pepper grinder, garlic, chopped chilis, white pepper (that you already have in the pantry and freezer) and some cajun seasoning, japanese basedsauce, chinese fishsauce and cooking wine and oregeno if you're planning in cooking something particularly ethnic; or dozens of random things you buy to use some small portion of and then just eternally clutter your kitchen
