hey guys I found an old zippo, I replaced the wick and the stone and refilled it, it works fine but when I don't use it for let say few hours it doesn't work without the help of an external flame like another lighter
But once it's "started" with another lighter I can close it and it works fine, I'm wondering if the heat generated by the first lightning is responsible for fuel vapor and this is why when it's cold there is not enough vapor to light it or maybe I already have used most of the fuel with my tests?
The foam is still the same but it seemed not damaged at all for me
>>
kerosene contamination.
replace the wadding and wick, and this time only use zippo fuel.
>>
Any lighter fluid should be fine

Hello long nose.

I only refilled with zippo fuel but I don't know for the former user, it was unused for 20 years

Make sure the wick is closer to the sparker and not bent in the opposite direction.
>>
>>2820691
Ah yes thanks ! It seems to be better, I have to check in few hours if it's still good

Wow, very cool. Slick McWolf in the jail bird outfit.
Is it throwing good sparks? You might need to clean or replace the wheel.

Ugh, that video is pretty slow, so if you don't watch the whole thing he also recommends "blooming out" the top of the wick.
>>

Liquid fuel lighters are a bit shit because they evaporate very fast. You gotta fill it up almost every day.

They make butane inserts now that are nice.
>>
>>2820771
Daily? Way back when I used a Zippo I filled mine weekly, but it would go 8-9 days if I forgot. Smoked about a $20 carton a week then.

>>

2024 and bitches dont know about gas lock
Could be there is too much vapour in the wick area (and not enough oxygen), so open the lighter, move the lighter ~6 inches in any direction, preferably up to push out the gas, then light it.

O.P., send it in for a repair. I did with one that I found in a thrift store and it came back like new.

The advice he gave was wise genuine. I use gas as a final solution to getting oil based shit off hands/items, I just make sure I'm not close to an ignition source. Please be smart enough next time to understand that a "lighter" classifies as an ignition source. In fact it's quite literally all it is, how you managed to fuck up is totally on you.

Been a rough weekend. I didnt clean it with gas i filled it with gas. I know it was stupid af ask my wife
The whole thing ignited into a fireball. I dropped it on berber carpet which is ruined. It would not extinguish. My wife was about to divorce me, she still isnt talking. Out of here if she caught me in here again im a dundy

Sometimes I wonder why I still come to 4chan after all this time. Then a thread like this comes along to remind me.

Wifes in bed finally. My hand is killing me. The huge ass blister busted omfg. Whoever suggested that I use gasoline to remove the varnish has some very bad karma coming. The Lord will punish you once I forgive you. I almost burned my house down. Hope it was worth the laugh. My insurance agent is disputing the claim since I was stupid. The damage is over 3000 dollars. My deductible is 1000. So its out of pocket at this point. My wife is livid and im not sure i can redeem myself. Careful taking advice here or you could end up like stupid me

I took a close look at your photo, the new wick you put in there is responsible. Buy zippo replacement wicks, they'll work better

Yeah I used to rock a zippo for my pack a day reds habit and it lasted a week easy. Was the wider version though.

so i pulled all the cotton out and the wick was still long just not enough was sticking out for me to grab a hold off. does anyone know how to put it back in
>>
>>2824788
Look up how to wire wrap a lighter wick so you have a lead to pull through. Dependable flame on youtube has a video on it. Also you can buy Imco wicks that are premade like this. You can also try cutting the end at an angle and wetting it, be very patient and work it through. Might could super glue the end, tape, wax, something that binds and tightens the end as well. Then cut it off once through.
