>Used to always hire someone to clean my carpets
>Had a second hand rug "professionally" cleaned recently
>It was still sticky and stinky and generally awful even after cleaning. Guy said the smell was from being rolled up and would go away. It didn't
>Messaged the guy to get him to reclean it
>Change mind. Delete the messages before he sees and buy a carpet cleaner
This is the result. Hiring carpet cleaners is the biggest fucking scam unless you're a scumlord and can write it off as a business expense to launder money to your mates.
>>

>When did you last clean your rugs and carpets
I tore out all my carpet and got tile in the living areas and laminate in the bedrooms. fuck carpet, it's the most disgusting thing ever.

rugs are also generally way too much effort to keep clean.
>>

>Change mind. Delete the messages before he sees and buy a carpet cleaner
this is the part where you fucked up
he did a job and he did it like shit, the least he could do is finish it, should've still demanded it because you're absolutely in the right here
worst he could do is refuse but you should've persisted

Send his ass the OP pic and say you’re going to recommend his competitor to all of your family and friends
>>
>>2858131
>Hiring anyone to do anything
You're going to get the very minimum of service and you're gonna pay for it.
>>
Rug update, the smell came back albeit mildly. I located it to the faux-leather edging at the bottom which I have since removed. Plan is to vacuum the debris from where I cut off the backing and see if the situation improves.

>>2858287
The time I would waste arranging for him to come back to reclean the rug is not worth the money. Plus he might mess up my floor which would be worse

>>2858302
Tempted to post a Google review but he knows where I live and I don't want my windows smashed in or something
>>
>>2859386
I'd try an enzyme cleaner if the smell is still present. Usually worked for me for pet urine odor.
>>
>>2859395
How do you work out where the smell is coming from on a room-sized rug? I've already sprayed down the most likely areas with enzyme cleaner.
>>
>>2858206
It's a beautiful rug but I lowkey regret picking it up even though it was free. My dining room now reminds me too much of the Sultan Ahmet Mosque for my personal comfort.
>>
>>2858131
>When did you last clean your rugs and carpets?
I throw my bathroom rug in the washer when I wash my bath towels every week or so. it's the only rug I have. All tile.
>>
>>2859401
Get down on all fours and sniff until you find it.
>>
Wow, that's frustrating!
>>
>>2860303
I gave in and messaged carpet man to come back and fix his work, to his credit he was very straightforward and apologetic so I'm going for forgive him (for now) and watch him like a hawk while he re-cleans it. I'll post a webm if he lets me film.
>>
>>2858206
>fuck carpet, it's the most disgusting thing ever.
So true. Didn't realize it until I replaced the carpet in my guest bedroom with laminate. I rolled up the carpet and put it in the trash can, and after it rained, they're was like 6 inches of dirt on the bottom of my trash can that came out of the carpets. I think we'll look back at carpets like our parents look at linoleum.

>This is the result. Hiring carpet cleaners is the biggest fucking scam unless
ok now run your carpet cleaner over it again and see what color it is.
now do it again and see what color it is
now do it again
and again
and again
you can wash your carpet as much as you like, you will never get all the deep dirt out there is just too much of it.
be thankful that it looks clean on top and the shampoo killed any fleas or shit like that
>>
>>2859386
Try filling your carpet cleaner with hydrogen peroxide. It should get rid of most smells and stains, but be prepared for a huge mess.
>>
>>2860633
i understand you wanna watch him but i would let him reclean and inspect it once done while there instead. nobody likes someone over their shoulder even if they do perfect work.
>>
>>2860984
Are you the carpet man? Are you planning to do a shitty job, leave my rug still dirty and then go off again hoping I don't notice?
>>
>>2860942
There must be a way to get rid of the smell at least. This rug stinks to high heavens while the carpet in my house doesn't smell at all (diligent cleaning, careful use, personal hygiene). I refuse to believe rich people will live with their antique wool/silk carpets smelling of Arab feet. There has to be a way to clean the smell away.

>>2860963
I don't want to risk messing up the colours.
>>
>>2861049
lmao you do you I guess. i have no carpet anymore besides rugs and runners that can be tossed in the trash or pressure washed. i still agree you need to check their work all that regardless.
>>
>>2860938
what's wrong with linoleum
>>
>>2861233
ive had linoleum in my house and it stinks like mildew. old stuff from early 80s. the smell after removing makes me question the glues used. peel and stick seems more useful since you can replace damaged tiles easier. the floating vinyl laminate floors are all you see now. they are okay but id still go with a thicker peel and stick over those if you have kids and pets. tile is nice until you realize you have to grout seal and clean it properly every year at least. lord help you if the illegals that poured your foundation or subfloor didn't get the floor level. some choices in tile material are also a waste of money due to upkeep.
>>
>>2861607
>tile is nice until you realize you have to grout seal and clean it properly every year at least.
I've lived in houses with tiles for many years and have never heard of this and had to do this, nor had any issues.
Maybe after like a decade there might be some cracked grout in places, but even that is mostly cosmetic.
>>
>>2861609
grout cracking or just missing grout are common but its more about actual tile cracking not grout. if it's uneven depending on the area and traffic it will lead to tile cracking. closet? not so much unless you put a safe on it.
>>
>>2861610
Oh, I see, if the supporting surface under the tile is uneven I can see why it would crack. But what does that hav to do with grout re-sealing and cleaning?
>>
>>2861052
It shouldn't affect the color of your carpet at all. I'm assuming that your carpet is synthetic fibers which means that it's clear plastic mixed with pigment. Even if you completely stripped the outside of the fiber of pigment it would look exactly the same. If your carpet is natural fiber somehow then you'd definitely fuck up the color.
>>
I have a large, natural dye area carpet from the 1920's and a Afghan victory carpet from 1989. I was going to have them professionally cleaned but I'm worried about damage. I would rather preserve them dirty than destroy them but have them be clean. Should I DIY or have them done professionally?
>>
>>2861620
Look up how to do it yourself and then call a carpet cleaner and make sure they can do natural fiber rugs when you get a quote and make a decision from there. It would be pretty difficult to re-dye the rug if the pigment comes off.
>>
>>2858131
Wash with natural fluid soap with a broom on a flat surface and rinse with loads of cold water. Repeat.

Bleach massively discolours and degrades certain types of plastics and I have no idea what sort of synthetic fibre my rug is. The bottles of beach you buy are usually in thich strong plastic for this reason.

>>2861620
Just make sure the professional you find actually has experience with antiques. I called one such person on my quest to have my carpet cleaned and he basically refused to clean my synthetic rubbish (pic rel) because he only cleans high end antiques in batches once a month. Your run of the mill cleaners would agree because job = money and then fuck it up. For antiques you need to individually test every colour and clean it with special wool/silk safe detergent. Expect to pay a fortune but I suspect it'll be worth it.

if you live in germany you can go to every drugstore, müller, rossmann, DM, and rent one for free if you buy the cleaning chemical from them.

Unironically crawl around and use your nose, man. What do you think it's demeaning to use your body to it's full capabilities?
>>
>>2862158
How much is it to rent one of these? Neither me nor my parents have never cleaned the carpet ever in all the years we've lived, only hoover. I'm curious how clean it can look.

Fuck off niggerbot
>>
>>2859401
You can trap a fart in bottle, you can freeze a fart. Capture the air in different areas. A mason jar with a straw so the air can move then just swish it in the area remove straw close jar and go away from the smell. Removed from the environment you can reduce errors, but this is ridiculous. ppm will follow a standard distribution from source so just sniff.
>>
>>2862218
its for free, but you need to buy the machine company's cleaner which costs 20€ for the 1L bottle.
>>

>one guy did a bad job
>so the entire industry everywhere is a scam
>look at how dirty this water is
You sound like an exceptionally retarded woman. Upset at one interaction so you emotionally start throwing insults around. I’m not even a carpet cleaner or a landlord but the logic is just so bad here. When did boomers become so fragile? Why is getting ripped off by a company and then wasting your own time something to be proud of?
>those crooks at the internet company raised by bill by 10$ cause they said my 1 year deal was up!
>well I showed them! I spent 5 hours on the phone and demanded a manager till they put it right back down!
>>
>>2860984
Tell that to every Indian there ever was
>>
>>2864684
What is it with Indians and doing this? Normally I’m good at politely implying I don’t want them there and they get the hint.. but with Indians they never do and I have to straight up say I’m not working until I get some space. It’s not even like they watch from the sofa or something… they literally try to stand a foot behind you. And then I’ve tried to see if they have a question or something, and they have zero clue of what’s going on… it’s bizarre. They must have one goofy ass culture over there, idk. You’d think people who shit in the street that much would be good at giving others their space.
