I bet you sharpen them like this, you queer
>>
>>2858855
Why did you post that pointless image.
>>
>>2858855
I sharpen my pencil in a regular pencil sharpener because I'm not a tard who fell for muh flat pencil meme
>>
>>2858859
I complained about pencils even rolling off my desk in school, flat pencils are superior.
>>
>>2858966
Hence the binder clip. No rolling, perfect sharpening
>>
>>2858840
You could have just bought a mechnical pencil or some other shit that doesn't roll but you chose the gayest fucking way to handle this. I bet you don't even charge people when you suck dicks behind the 7/11.
>>
>>2858974
>I'm going to mark this board but I can only apply .0002lbs of pressure or else my pencil lead will snap like that guy on /diy/ who seethes over a guy putting a binder clip on a pencil
>>
>>2858976
>he doesn't have enough fine motor control not to break pencils
What are you doing in a /diy/ board, Anon?
>>

You can get 2mm lead drafting pencils if you're a retarded ape
If you snap those then you should just give up
>>

Regular pencils are fine for paper, but for lumber, sheathing, etc. they're absolute garbage. Anyone claiming otherwise is either trolling or trying to downplay the benefit of the carpenters pencil in an attempt to justify their inability to use one correctly.

>no rolling
Carpenters pencils already do this without having to add clips and shit on them that will snag on everything.
>perfect sharpening
Sounds like a skill issue to me. I have zero problems sharpening a carpenters pencil.
>the lead is adequate for marking lumber
No, it's not.

Customized 0.9mm Pentel P209 mechanical pencil in yellow only works for me.
>>

Also cheap and plentiful.
I also write the date I put it into service because I’m a goddamn filmmaker with a famous brother.

3mm lead holder with 4b lead for rough layout and reference marks and 0.3mm mechanical drafting pencil in 2b for fine ruled lines. Sometimes I use a knife to index the pencil tip. I've tried the marking knife meme but 1.) I can't see the damn line and 2.) if I fill it in with pencil it looks wider than the 0.3 pencil alone. The more B the lead the darker and easier it is to erase fyi. The 0.3 lead breaks constantly but I don't mind. Cost of doing business.

For me, it's the Muteki Signature #5708 Kiridashi marking knife with a Hitachi White #1 Steel core laminated with 30 alternating layers of 1025 High Tensile Steel and Pure Nickel Sheet.

The best Kiridashi have a right or left hand bevel grind that affects accuracy when marking so you'll need two but what's $1490 if you're really serious about your work and not just a hack?

Your table is ass.
>>

news flash: only round objects roll. pencils are octagonal.
>>

Stop being poor and buy Blackwings.

Artist here, blackwings are an overrated meme. Just buy a regular 4B pencil.

I keep wanting to try some of these, have had knockoffs on muh Amazon list forever, but then pass because the existing options all work well enough that the cheapass in me refuses to spend $17 on a pencil.

If I ever see the Ox on clearance for $6 or something at Lowe’s, I might try one. There have been like 2 times I wanted to make a mark through a hole and couldn’t reach it with a normal pencil, so I stuck a drill bit down there to make a dimple and it was fine.

Haha

China pen for cardboard wood
White out expo for stone/metal
Pencil for fine detail stuff were a cm matters
>>
half the point of carpenter pencils is the tip being wide but narrow so you can draw a thin and precise line without gouging soft woods
if it was just to keep them from rolling they'd just have wider wood bits and normal lead

You forgot to include carbide tipped scribe for metal... That's my go to most of the time for precision layout and cutting

And my good ol custom sharpie in my pocket for general marking duties.

I also will scribe a line in wood with my pocket knife or a screwdriver or anything else remotely sharp quite regularly.

I did order some of these long nib permanent markers on the recommendation from some guy on the "I see you don't know shit about welding" group on facespace...

Ok it won't let me post a link because 4chan is gay. Search Scamazon for "Ireer 60 Pcs Multi Purpose Deep Hole Marker Pens"

I do finish carpentry and whenever I can, I use a mechanical pencil, 0.7mm. Consistent mark width is a huge benefit, along with instant lead lengthening (sharpening). Only a 200 lb gorilla would snap leads constantly.

A close second is the Staedtler 2H pencil. I don't mind them because my finish nailer has a pencil sharpener built-in.
>>
>>2859903
the wide lead also gives you a nice big flat surface that helps when tracing woods
>>
>>2858840
>I can't sharpen them with a pencil sharpener!
Learn how to not be a faggot.
>>
Totally agree
>>
>>2859906
>not scribing with his caliper points
>>
>>2859602
second the lead holder, really like mine.
id love to try silver streaks but thats slightly off topic.
>>
>>2858840
I bought a Zebra Del Guard. Expensive for a pencil but the lead does break far less and it makes marking exact lines a breeze when you dont want to mark with a knife (woodworking)
