>>2862418I'd say so. Especially if it's your first miter saw. You're going to want a 12" or a sliding 10" if you're doing any kind of rough building and framing. But for general woodworking it's a great deal.
>>2862418I saw that same thing at Lowe’s for $99 I think the other day. If you want to check it out in person, go see it there. Can’t go wrong for the money.I recommend looking at it in-store because if it’s your first miter saw, look at that vs a sliding 10” saw. The sliding ones go up in price a bit, but there is a huge difference in cut capacity, like if you want to make cuts on 2x6, 2x8, etc, especially at an angle, I’m not sure how much the non-sliding saw could really do.
I always regretted not buying a sliding compound mitre saw. Even better would have been a 12" sliding, but that’s a pretty tall order.
>>2862418>>2862497Also Opie, if you decide you want to go sliding on a budget and don’t want to spend >$500 on a saw and stand (I highly recommend a stand, I bought just the saw and went back for the stand 2 weeks later), the holiday sales are going to begin in like 2 weeks. Lowe’s and Home Depot always start their holiday pricing the last week of October, and there will probably be some deals. When I bought my shitty Ryobi 10” slider that has worked well, they had the Ryobi for like $250 with a free stand, and IIRC they had that nice DeWalt 12” sliding saw for like $100 off with a free stand, and those sold pretty quick.
>>2862418I have that exact saw and sure, it cuts wood. it will do 4x4s and 2x6, 2x4 at a 45deg
>>2862514You can’t do a 2x6 at 45deg?Damn, that kinda sucks. I’m glad I got the sliding one. Although if you wanted to stick a metal or some multi material blade on there and set a saw on fire for <$100 making a budget chop saw, maybe that would be a good choice. The one thing with sliders though, especially if you go 12”, they’re much larger physically as far as trying to pack them down and store them, if that means a lot to you. You can put the non-sliding guy right up against a wall while using it, but the slider needs like 18” of space behind it.
Dewalt's sliding 12" is 56 lbs and physically cumbersome to carry through tight spaces. It's the kind of saw you want when you're installing crown or stain grade professional trim and millwork. Even Lowes has a single bevel compound sliding 7" miter for $120. I think all the major retailers carry something comparable. The sliding lets you use larger stock but it is also helpful in lining up your cuts. It's something I'll use all the time and not think about until it's absent. Otherwise 7" saws are extremely convenient. Their minor drawbacks are overshadowed by how often they're the only tool you need besides a tablesaw glue and pins.
>>2862520Easier than breaking out the fucking tablesaw all the time.In fact, i plan to get rid of the tablesaw altogether.Sliding miter does like 75% of everything I cut anyway, skilsaw for everything else.Might get a track for the skilsaw though.
>>2862418>Is this deal based?https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807088147123.html
>>2862418>Is this deal based?https://www.hotllystore.shop/products/metabo-hpt-c10fcgs-compound-15-amp/
>>2862520yes, it will not, thats why I said exactly what I said. it cuts 2x6it cuts 4x4it cuts 2x4 at a 45
>>2865158Fucking retard
>>2865158So it won’t cut anything else? Like it can’t cut a 1/2 at 30deg?>>2865170It’s a very specific saw I’m guessing
>>2862418I got the Dewalt one, but it goes on special a lot, mind you it's the tooth and not abrasive, so it's like 6 times the cost. Don't mixed saw tooth and Abrasive wheels.
>>2862418Depends on what you're doing. Building a deck? Sure. Finish carpentry? No. This was my first miter saw. After aligning the warped ass fence, it was still a degree off. Terrible. And I say this as a metabo hpt/hitachi guy with a pretty huge lineup of their tools.
Sliding mitre saws are 10 times more useful but this will still be a good saw if you just use it for basic stuff. I have a similar DeWalt one that I keep at home or just for basic framing stuff when I don't need to make complicated cuts or notches. But the bigger sliding one that I use at work is definitely superior.
>>2862418thoughts on Einhell ones? I saw pic rel at 175$ and the one like in the OP for 95$
>>2866054At least that’s a slider.
>>2862418noob here and I've only ever had angle grinders and a sawzall I've been using in the garden mostly, but why would I need a miter saw, instead of just using a jigsaw at an angle? yeah, the cut won't be as pretty and fast, but I can also cut intricate patterns with it. which saw is the most universal to get started with woodworking to buy once cry once, instead of e.g. starting with just a circular saw, then buying a sliding one, then buying a miter saw, which can also do the same things, etc.
I put one together for $7.50, I don’t see why you need to spend so much.
>>2862418Metabo sucks ass.I have an older version of this.Doesn't cut 90 and doesn't cut vertical.Useful for chopping twisted 2x4's to throw into the fireplace.
>>2865479Back in my day those were Hitachi Koki and cost $99. First thing I did 10 years ago was immediately strip one of the holes in the casting for that shitty side arm support. Other than that it's good.
>>2866528why the fuck was it deleted? it was a really good post. this place is probably worse than reddit already
>>2866070Most even professional carpenters don't even know this jigsaw trick. They go out and buy big dewalt mitersaw crap. You can trim circles around them with a Bosch jigsaw. This is how I do casing, crown, and chair rail.
