I need a utility trailer. I have a rear axle from a Jeep, so I was thinking about making my own trailer. Would it be better to get the folding trailer from Harbor Freight or make my own trailer?
How heavy of a trailer are you trying to achieve?
>>2865346I mean, pretty light if a harbor freight folding trailer is an option.
>>2865297I think this is one of those projects that won't be any cheaper, if you DIY. The issue is the Harbor freight will be really shitty metal and "Grade 0" fasteners. If you're good with a welder, build your own.
>>2865297this issue will be registering a trailer that build yourself. depending where you live, you may have to get it inspected, apply for a vin, and some other stuff.
>>2865297just buy a shitter off cl or zuckbergplace and fix it up. its not rocket appliances l
>>2865556Where I live, trailers with a capacity of under 1500 don't need plates
Check your local Craigslist free section for a boat + trailer or a bumper pull camper someone wants rid of. I have an ATV/lawn mower sized trailer I made out of a boat trailer 15+ years ago and all I've done to it is put new tires on it once.
>>2865297If you are poorfagging. Buy a boat with trailer of cragslist or something.Dump the boat and keep trailer.
>>2865297Get the rear axle assembly from a K chassis Caravan. It is quite possibly the best automotive solution for a DIY trailer.Be sure to have the yard include the leaf spring to chassis brackets
Depending on the Jeep that rear goes to, you might get ahead by selling that and either picking up a shitty trailer that already exists or grabbing a rear end with little value like >>2866885 said.
