I assume this is means about as much as a JD Power award.

Honestly this. I love HD TVs and it’s nice how thin and affordable they have gotten, but dropping $300-$500 every 4 yesrs on a new one when the old tube TVs ran fine for 20 years is sort of annoying. And I always make the point of going name brand like Samsung or LG instead of random new Chinese brand at Walmart for $178 but they still don’t last.

Sometimes I miss my 1989 kitchen and laundry room from the last house, clunky buttons on the ol’ Maytag but she just wouldn’t give out no matter what I threw at/in her,

I bought a 4k 43" for a monitor for $170, 1080's for $20 at yardsales, or the main Sony Bravia 4k on the curb. I've yet to have a LCD tv fail that wasn't femoid caused (knocking it out of foid rage, or leaving it outside on the deck and it getting blown over).

how long is "really long"? 20 years? 60 years? 150 years? 300,000 years?

What do people do to their tvs? Ive had mine since 2012 and i had another even older one that i found on the street and gave to a friend recently thats still fine

replaced a Samsung about 50" tv 4 years ago that we nursed along doe 4 years prior. something about a start capacitor, I think. you could only turn it on once a day. if you turned it off or let it timeout, it would not come back on for many, many hours.

we had it for probably 10 years total. we heated up the house brewing beer, and that was its last hurrah. wasn't even that hot... but it was long overdue.

bought a Samsung 75" to replace it. has its own Samsung channels and better all round. it was due, we are happy.

bought a bosch dishwasher at the old house, bought one for the new house 1.5 years ago. like it. will stay bosch, I think.

have a Rheem 80 gallon Heat Pump water heater. like it. uses around 300-400w when running. easily carried by our solar system.

solar system is sol-ark controller, Qcell panels and trojan batteries. very pleased with all. will upgrade FLA batteries to Trophy LiFePO4 when possible.

EG4 mini-split HVAC cooling/heat pumps. like them also.

US STOVE Defender & MORSØ 1410 wood stoves. very satisfied.

GE propane comvection range/oven. very satisfied.

unsure on laundry machines. that's wife's territory. they're new. in the basement. not gonna go look. I have clean clothes often. open the closet or drawe and there they are. that said, I suppose I am satisfied with them.

Sneed Queeze is bretty gud for washer and dryer units.
>>
I've always had Bosch dishwashers and never had any real problems with them. Everything else right now is 5-10yo low end LG that came with my house and nothing's broken down yet. I assume all the classic American brands are just chinkshit at this point.

But if you are looking for a quality vacuum: Riccar
>>
>>2867157
I feel sorry for your wife
>>
My parents bought a house 5 years ago that came with all higher end Samsung appliances, they all broke down and have been replaced since, talking to the appliance guys and they say Samsung and LG are some of the worst appliances you can get in terms of reliability.
>>
>>2867157
>unsure on laundry machines. that's wife's territory.
There are 2 hard earned truths I've learned over my life : never let a woman do your laundry. Never touch a woman's laundry.
>>
>>2867202
this, and don't even let them know what settings you use on your own laundry. Just lie and say "permanent press" if they get nosy (I heatmaxx everything)

In a perfect world they wouldn't cook either but life's too short to address that one.

yup. i inherited my dad's 50 year old maytag washing machine. its been serviced twice, used weekly, still going strong
>>
>>2867105
On the contrary, tube TVs would often go dim, the picture would become distorted, the color fucked up, details blurred.
I don't even know how a modern LED TV would fail. Just fail to turn on one day? Never seen one go bad.
>>
bought a bosch washing machine 6 months ago and hope to get 15-20 years out of it. ill make a thread in 2040
>>
>>2867445
This. Do the kids here (literally anyone under 35) even know about horizontal and vertical control knobs? You had to fuck with those weekly to keep the picture from rolling. Yes it got better towards the end of tube TVs run, but it still happened. And if you run the numbers they cost twice as much as LEDs, too. Then there's the whole picture size thing; I think if we had to stop watch a screen that's roughly 2 feet by 2.5 feet (and that was a pretty decent size) we'd collectively shit ourselves these days.
>>
>>2867097
For most of those it just depends on the model year, and who they're outsourcing manufacturing to. Could be good, could be bad, no way to really judge based on brand here.
>>
>>2867097
i sell appliances as part of my job. i have had to research this shit extensively. here's the list:

Off-brand Chinesium < Whirlpool = Frigidaire = Haier = GE Appliances < Samsung < LG = Bosch = Kitchenaid = Electrolux < Fisher & Paykel <
Signature Kitchen Suite = Liebherr < Jenn-Air < Subzero/Wolf = Thermador = Viking < bespoke appliance manufacturers, ie La Cornue

Rankings can move up or down one place based on service availability. Or if you're like me and pirate service manuals to fix your own shit, no adjustment is necessary.
You will find $25 million dollar homes that use LG laundry appliances. SubZ is by far the most popular because they make a pretty wide range of panel-ready products including refer and freezer drawers which are neat. But for value, I would get LG refrigeration and laundry, Bosch cooking and ventilation, and either a Bosch dishwasher or a Fisher & Paykel dish drawer, and try to keep all the appliances to standard sizes so they are easy to replace if something catastrophic happens.

My grandma has a Sears fridge bought in 1958 that still runs today and the freon (F12) is still ice cold
>>
>>2867097
Have a bosch dishwasher and we've run that shit 2-3 times a day for years because it's a full house with kids.
Washes great and it's the quietest washer I've ever used.

But the button user interface was designed by a fucking asshole retard, because of several things:
- top mount controls, so you have to have the door open to start a cycle, and so:
- if you press the "start" button and close the door too quickly, it won't start washing
- if you change your mind about the wash time (normal vs fast), you have to cancel the cycle
- there isn't an actual way to cancel a cycle: cancelling sets the timer to 1 min, and you have to "run" the cycle down by closing the door and waiting for that minute to run out.

Same with my LG washer. Full house, gets used every day, no problems for years.

>Bosch, any European brand in America
Overpriced, hard to service

>KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana
All Whirlpool Co. Some of their products only differ in the trim and share the exact same components.

definitely miele/merker/schulthess if you have the munehh. if not, get old models. they'll survive a nuclear war. we retired (still have it) a miele washingmachine that ran for 40 years. you could also safe for an electrolux, good brand.

In europe its basically mielle on top and then its bosch, then there's samsung with their smart shit stuff the whirlpool, and beko is bottom of the barrel kurdish made stuff that is at least better than chinesium.

None of those companies really make commercial stuff and barely rate their stuff for professional use (they used to do so) Random italian and tawainese companies do that stuff.

what do you think of cove dishwashers? they're part of the subzero/wolf family. I have a wolf induction stove and range chimney hood, wanted to match the dishwasher and it seems similar enough.
>>
We have Electrolux washer and dryer, they are pretty nice. I also got sick of buying $200 vacuums so I bought a Riccar R30, it's a great unit
>>
>>2868177
I bought a sebo vacuum for my mother after she started having really bad allergies to dust. It puts out basically zero dust, pretty nicely sealed. fantastic stuff. buy once cry once situation too with their 10+ years warranty.
>>
>>2867097
A lot of appliances are all the same and I mean that, literally. I looked at fridges, five years ago. There are at least 5 old brands, now with the bullshit sticker "assembled in USA" that are made in the same chinkshit factory. They are then shipped to an old factory in the US, where the doors are hung and the shelves installed, so they are technically "assembled" in the US.
>>
Gave up on Samsung when the last washing machine we bought from them had to be recalled and the replacement only lasted another 4 years after, fuck Samsung they've no doubt moved their shit to china like everyone else

HEAT kills HD tv's.
I bought a 36" HDTV in 2007. it lasted me till 2020. when the HDMI posts went bad. otherwise it still worked. from day one I had it sitting in my entertainment center with a small fan pointed at the back.

my current Sony 65" does not have a fan but it is also not up against a wall. I am thinking of putting one behind it.

it's a year old and the light just stopped working randomly. I assume you've seen this before. j. handy as fuck and just need some direction.

they make a battery-powered drip coffe machine, so a 2x18V or a 40V makita washing machine wouldn't surprise me
>>
>>2869267
anon I was just referencing the fact that we argue about power tool brands all the time but not home appliance brands. although I would definitely consider buying home appliances by either makita or milwaukee.
>>
How do we feel about HE sideloading washers? Shit or just as good? I've only ever used toploaders.
