water company emailed me today saying I used 5800 gallons of water in the past day. I call them up and they say yeah you must have a leak somewhere. check every toilet, sink, water line in the house. no leaks. check outside, everything is try. hose bibs are off, no water around them. ground is dry all over. no signs of water anywhere on my property (0.6 acres). how can 5800 gallons of water leak with no trace at all? if there is a leak it must be underground, but at that rate, it seems like it would break ground. so... is the meter fucked, or am I really fucked? what do?
>>2867692>everything is try.everything is dry. lol
Tell the water jew its an error, and you're not falling for their guise of funding Israel
>>2867692If you aren't being pranked or scammed somehow...Meter is probably fucked, ask them to come have a look.5800 gal is like leaving a faucet on all day 24hr. You would hear that shit at your water main coming in.
>>2867695the water jew? shut up nigger. they are a county water provider. you are going to call the person serving you water for almost free a jew? the jews are selling bottles, moshe.anyways, this is not the first email, it's been going on for two weeks but I thought they were errors at first but yesterday the number went way higher. I just don't get it. they say it's not an error.
>>2867692Does the current meter reading add up with previous ones? Even if you have a 10 person household (say a royal 100g/person/day), that additional 4.8k should show up if you compare with last month. Is it a digital ‘smart’ meter? Is their meter the same as your meter?> if there is a leak it must be underground, but at that rate, it seems like it would break groundDoesn’t have to. That 6k gallon is like 2 hours of heavy rain (on 0.6 acres). So if your soil was dry and drains well it’s not that much. Does seem weird that a leak that big would suddenly stop leaking. And incoming water flow is only like 6 gpm (9k/day)
>>2867692your meter should be spinning like a mother fucker. did you check it? dial should be still if you aren't running any water
>>2867717Man, I'm glad they upgraded mine to a digital meter. It goes out to the hundredth of a gallon so if there's a leak it's immediately obvious
>>2867697wtf are you retarded. the water comes in your house, gets to the meter, and ends somewhere in your fucking place. you must be a giant idiot
go look at your meter and 4see if it's spinning
>>2867786>drinking microplasticsyou really showed those jews bud
>>2867717>>2867732This. Open your meter pit and visually check to see if your meter is spinning like crazy when all your stuff is off. If so, then yes you have a huge leak underground.
>>2867791Aahhh
>>2867791The water here is full of industrial chemicals, drugs, and estrogen.Reverse osmosis won't filter this stuff
>>2867988works on my machineyou can find contaminants in almost every bottled spring water as well
Did you accidentally unplug your primary sump pump? There might be a secondary sump pump that runs on water pressure which will fuck your bill but not in a single day. If the area has been dry then something is fucked.
>>2867732>the water comes in your house, gets to the meterSome meters are located outside of the house in a hand-hole. A leak in the pipe between the meter and house could be quite large and yet hard to detect (no water in house).
>>2868070OP here again, either I have this going on, or I have some downstream irrigation leak. I do have an irrigation system installed, but I've never used it. I removed the control box because it was in the way in my garage and I never really want to use it. I have noticed no change in water pressure in my house. I checked the meter, which is in a hole by the street, and it's saying 4.5 gallons per minute. Wouldn't the pressure be low in my house if I had that kind of leak from the main supply? There's a lot of stuff going on here. Last year, I had a few toilets start leaking, got a plumber out and he said the pressure regulator was set too high, so there was too much pressure in my house. he put a new one in and I fixed the toilets. This year, I had a leak at the meter area, and we called it in and the water company came and fixed it. Now all of the sudden I have a massive, undetected leak?Coincidence? something seems weird with the water here.
>>2868076>it's saying 4.5 gallons per minuteYou've got a massive leak somewhere then. Better get a plumber in to find it asap. That water isn't gonna pay for itself.
>>2868080bro I know, but why is there no water anywhere?? how I can I leak a swimming pool and not see anything?? leak finding company isn't open til Monday...
>>2868086Call a fucking plumber you retard. I am not a plumber, so fuck off.
>>2868086So turn your water off at the meter until you can get the plumber in to look at it.
>>2868087I called a corporate plumber and they offered to replace my mainline for 5K and told me to call a leak finder otherwise lol
>>2868088my man I have a family of 5 lol this isn't incel territory. my wife would kill me if we didn't have water
>>2868090Then get a shovel and start digging up your lines yourself until you find the leak.
>>2868093word. good advice. no sarcasm. thanks friend. going to go grab the shovel and fuck my yard up, but it must be done.
>>2868086What about pipes in or under your foundation?
>>2867988bottled water is just tap water with a retard tax added
If I were you, I would be scouring the soil anywhere along the path of your supply line, especially during dry spells, there has to be some evidence of it coming to the surface unless it took path of least resistance to an underground spring or to a septic leech field or other drainage system.I feel your pain though, just got done installing a 2000’ service line run (yes two thousand). My issues were due to 1970’s plastics and poor spec’ing when it was installed during construction. I replaced with a massively oversized HDPE 250 psi run and butt welding all joints and transitions which were as few as possible. Most failures we experienced with the previous system were total pressure loss and water sprung to grade in obvious fashion. One failure eluded me for two weeks because symptoms were not obvious, only partial pressure loss and soil dampness/ground water effect at failure locations. In all failures I experienced, springs and seepage were within 10-20ft of line breach and we are at 48” bury depth for code.Additionally, since long runs like mine require a meter pit at the road with the majority of run being customer owned, a bandaid I used to buy me time drying the upgrade project was to install a pressure regulating valve in the pit which protected the old line from pressure surges. We see upwards of 95psi on the mains here so reducing to 55-60 did seem to stave off issues. This may be a consideration for you once you locate the leak and want a temporary resolve.
>>2867692Slab leak
>>2868076>I removed the control box because it was in the way in my garage and I never really want to use it.That's probably where the shutoff for the irrigation system was located. Now it's leaking somewhere. Good luck finding the valve and turning it off.

>>2868220I'm Euro and it's a thing here too. my parents managed to get it subscription-based like 30-40 years ago and it stayed that way for them ever since, but it was a rare thing even then and hasn't even been possible to get a new contract like that anymore for the last 20 years or so and everyone who gets running water installed needs to get a meter
>>2867692I had toilets that ran constantly at a flip and went through an ass load of water in a few days

>>2867697Meter is broken
Find the leak, fix itAfter that, tell the water company to come check if your meter was maybe brokenThen bribe the guy doing the inspecting with however much money you deem fitTell him to fuck up your meter with a hammer and confirm it was broken in his reportCongrats, now you dont have to pay shit
>itt OP dies from a sinkhole
>>2868416
>>2867692This is straightforward to diagnose.Step one: turn off your main water valve on your side of the meterStep two: Look at the meter and see if water is still running. If it is, then you have a broken line underground somewhere. If it's not, then the meter is faulty. If you have a broken line, start looking for the leak.
actually hilarious that over 12k gallons of water has leaked out of your pipes so far and you are clueless
>>2868668meanwhile africans are dying of thirst
>>2868679>meanwhile africans are dying of thirstBRB gotta go waste more water...
I've got an underground leak from a retard excavator who couldn't properly operate a crimper or install a stop and waste. Should I dig up the connection and repair it now or wait until the spring? It's already well below freezing at night so I'd have to get the hole dug and filled by hand in a day.
>>2867692>is the meter fucked, or am I really fucked? what do?i hope you wrote down your meter every month or took a picture, mechanical "wet runner" meter can actually skip sometimes either from vibrations like a wacker plate or if there was a repair in the main line and air bubbles get in the meter. a meter can break down internaly but more often it just skips without traces.if you complain to the water company they remove the meter and send it to a independed lab and they will find no faults and say the meter is correct.
>>2867692>>2868086Check water heater, air conditioner (if you have an evaporation cooler, it could have it's own drainage) etc.do you have any exterior drains that overflows or something have gone to? you don't have a malfunctioning toilet in the basement sex dungeon where you forgot to give your girl (male) her allotment of eggs again?
>>2869048>>2869028>>2868654>>2868607>>2868571bros this is crazy. I spent a while trying to find my waster line but couldn't find it. called a plumber who has done over 100 of this same job (or so he says) and he couldn't find the water line, was perplexed as hell, called in his buddy with advanced leak-finding equipment, he found the leak in the main line from the meter to the house but he couldn't locate where the line went into the house. I have seven 5-feet deep holes in my yard from all of this guessing. the leak finder dude pulled out a fucking dowsing rod and did white guy magic and we have a potential area to dig tomorrow.... these guys are cool as fuck and were just chilling and chatting, but man, they said they've never seen a weirder water main in their lives. shit is fucked.

>>2869314the dowsing happened after all the holes were dug lol it was their last resort after trying all of their detection equipment. electrical, sound based, opening the drain ditch, the electrical ditch, etc.

>>2869317>>2869334dowsing rodsdo not workit was simplya process of eliminationand they CERTAINLY cannot find pipes6 feet down
>>2869338>process of eliminationthat doesn't even make sense. the pipe enters the foundation at an arbitrary place. I have 30-40 feet of house-side it could have been on. it could have been at any point. the dowsing rod dipped on the right spot 3 times.
>>2869338Actually, if they know what they're doing they can tell you how deep it's going to be. Definitely works to at least 8'.
>>2869303>>2869317>>2869334>>2869339>>2869340They knew exactly where to dig and decided to charge you an extra day of labor. The fact that you fell for this grift should embarrass you.

dowsing works, you can make your own rods by threading beads or some sort of sleeves on the short arms of two L shaped pieces of thick copper wire, with the long arms at least a foot long. Hold the sleeves so the wires can move freely, and point them straight ahead and walk, and when you cross the water you are looking for the wires will cross or splay apart. I hear more than half of people can dowse if they try.
>>2869380>pipes never enter or exit at an arbitrary placeI didn't mean arbitrary place as in random, I meant that no one above ground can really tell where it goes in. the place my pipe goes in is so weird. it's 5-6 feet from the front of the house with no other connections around it. drain is 12 feet away from it, power is 11 feet away from it. it's just a random spot in the foundation. it's really weird. they told me they've never seen this before. maybe I just have a weird house.>>2869380>sneaky leaks are a bitch, sounds like you got a cool company helpingyeah these guys were chill. the dowsing guy was a man of few words.>>2869380>glad you got it fixed bruhthanks friend
>>2867692Farmer fag here, we all know that feel. So first check your meter every half hour and see how much water you're losing, because that will give you a pretty solid idea of where the leak actually is. Call your Indians make insurance agent, they often send a plumber if they know you'll claim the loss anyway, save themselves money, so you get a free plumber. Then get a sharpie and paper and walk every water line on your property. Every water line. The one you think you don't need to check, yea it'll be that one. Sometimes it's from a defunct line that's just capped at the end. There are proper ways of doing this but fucked if I know. I'm a farmer not an irrigation technician. >>2871332No because suburbs are a net negative in the long run due to the cost of infrastructure vs the amount of revenue the population density brings in. But it takes decades for that bill to come due so it doesn't get noticed until things start to decay from lack of maintenance.
>>2871332>>2871345Also, here the new people moving in are immigrants from india, and are supported by (and hired by) the government, so that too, is a net negative. It’s bad for everyone except the politicians.

>>2869303dowsing is some kinda crazy thing that I wish I knew how to do. I knew an old fella here in Aus who had some kinda ability to do dowsing out in the bush, but literally dowsing for gold. He'd walk around the outback with a big old gold chain hanging from his hand and could tell you gold the best deposits would be. Got massive contracts from multi-billion dollar gold exploration companies. I think he's the CEO of some company like Hammer Metals or something like that now. Water dowsing is some crazy thing but just cause it's weird doesn't mean it's impossible, plenty of stories of people who do it all the time.
