Hey guys first time posting on this board I have a question, I have a split AC, the outdoor cooper lines a large section was un-insulated and exposed, I wrapped a towel around it and covered it in duct tape like in the pic, right now I'm using it for heating so the pipes are heated and warm to the touch, will this help in keeping heat in so it uses a bit less energy, is this shit a fire hazard? (I doubt that but) Went with the towel + duct tape because I cba to go to home improvement stores for the foam insulation thingies, it was already running for years with them exposed but thought why not
>>2871569Cotton towel?I’d be concerned if it’s reaching a temp of 200°C or 390 freedom temperature units.
>>2871574yeah cotton towel, I googled around a bit, theres no way an AC line gets that hot, right? If it was like 200 C that would be steaming in winter, theres no way I think, its comfortable to hold but more than 3-4 seconds it starts feeling uncomfortable, its hard to get info on how hot these things can get though
>>2871576Nah, it most likely won't get that hot. Even the c02 liquid lines i work on get up to like 200 F max. That mini split isn't running on anything close to the same load. Only the suction really needs to be insulated. Let me look through my work pics and see if I can't give you an idea on how hot those lines get. Probably like 120 F would be my guess for the discharge
>>2872113Yeah it's been running for a few days now and nothing seems amiss with my ghetto towel insolation, just gonna leave it be I think at this point, not sure if it helped but probably better than nothing
>>2872355Until it starts to mold and house critters, or when it gets wet and cold and it starts to freeze outside (making assumptions there since I don't know your zone but even in the deep south, it's could drop below freezing in a few weeks.) You do need to replace this with 'foam insulation thingies' when you can. I'd just make an excuse to go, like grabbing a new tool set, or replacing a worn out shovel or rake. Shit, you may be able to just have it delivered depending.
>>2872359this anon has a great point, I didn't even think of weather and pests. That foam is cheap.
