Is there a better way? I am digging a pond, more like a grave next to my patio into a step hill. I'm already down 4ft and the hill is coming in, I want to build an open cassion so I can safely dig, but this seems like overkill. Is there better way? After a soil settling test I estimate sandy clay loam.
>>2873635>more like a graveSounds about right. You can be burried alive in a 4ft hole. "the hill is coming in" may be the only warning you get. A fence does not stop the sides from caving. You should stop and reconsider after learning about ground/slope stability/shoring.
>>2873660>ShoringI thought that was the purpose of the caisson, transfer the load around me into the other side I'm looking at a 6 by 4 unknown depth.
>>2873660I thought about driving rebar to break the failure plane creating a basket as a opposed to a line, but I would have to drive deep to get enough leverage throughout the possible slip zone.Inb4 pyramid foot transfers pressure of slippage throughout.
>>2873635Ponds are evil mosquito farms. Why do you want the extra upkeep even without a landslide?
Is this a shipping container bunker thread in disguise ?
