How do I stop this piece of shit interfering with my keyboard? I already put them on separate circuits.
>>
I used to hate seeing my own bad work from years ago -- what a hack. Finding old work that's better than my current work is way worse though.
>>
am I giving myself cancer with this? What if I put a wire from the radiator to a contact on the belt to capture static, will the whole house be electrified?
>>
>>2874515
if you have a scope or spectrum analyzer then buy or diy a cheap probe and figure out where the EMI is coming from.

I don't. Only incidental basic understanding of electricity.
>>
I'll try wrapping the cable in tin foil. Seems like it can't be within a couple inches of the treadmill while it's turning.
>>
>>2874536
Shield the power cable with metal foil it's the largest antenna. It that doesn't work then motor or the motor area for test. Next would be an EMI filter in the power line
>>
>>2874551
Thank you. Doesn't having a different circuit mean the power line isn't the source?
>>
I hope the computer itself is ok being near this thing. I think the entire upper yoke is acting as an antenna. I assume computers and PSUs are designed to be in high EM environments though
>>
diy shielding on the keyboard cord took care of most of it, then another sheet on the back of the keyboard allowed me to actually set it on top of the yoke without disconnecting. I'll switch to a shielded keyboard, now the only question is the brain tumor potential
>>
>>2874541
Well shit, the store only sells aluminum foil.
>>
>>2874515
Is it a wireless keyboard?
Like bluetooth or whatever?
>>
>>2874515
a treadmill has a huge fucking motor in it
it doesn't matter how many radiators you connect it to or how much tin foil you wrap it in, it is going to create a lot of electromagnetic interference
if you want to use one of these at a desk you should have bought one without the handles designed for that purpose.

wired keyboard
>>2874579
my nicer shielded keyboard works fine so far. I think as long as it doesn't give me a brain tumor, the rest should take care of itself
>>2874570
I had some but the Tin Pest got into it.

free dreadmill from a client
free computer out of the trash
repaired keyboard
TV hand me down
shelf from trash
am I allowed on this board?
>>
>>2874602
I remember that POS keyboard. I had that back in highschool.
>>
>>2874607
probably the same one. it seems to be tanking the EM from the mill pretty well
>>
Since no one else is asking, what makes you think the treadmill was interfering with your keyboard, especially since it's wired? I have a mini PC plugged into a TV that I watch while on the treadmill, and I have not noticed any appreciable interference with either the wireless networking or the bluetooth connection to either the keyboard or my ear buds.
>>
>>2874635
As you see in the image, I set the keyboard on top of the treadmill console. With the unshielded keyboard, any time I started the treadmill it would disconnect the keyboard with an audible "hardware removed" tone.
>>
>>2874635
>>2874677
I'm hoping it's normal and not indicative of a faulty treadmill irradiating me. Let me know if you can duplicate the failure at all.
>>
My first thought was naturally that some wired connection was responsible. The treadmill draws so much power and the crawlspace under my (free diy hand-me-down) parents kitchen is a wonderland of loose romex. Thinking it could come all the way through the monitor and HDMI cable, I completely isolated the treadmill. no difference. some kind of EM makes more sense though. The mouse is unaffected. Before adding my own foil on the cable, the keyboard couldn't get close. After, I could lift it a few inches away from the console and it would reconnect.

East coast huh
>>
>>2874772
yeah. We know each other?
>>
well bump as i have the same exact problem with mine
>>
>>2874790
Nah, just live on the best side of the USA
>>
>>2874635
It seems like a fairly regular thing to occur.
I also needed to tweak my cable setup for my under-desk treadmill because it would interfere with one of my monitors while it was active until I shortened the cable run.
>>
>>2874555
No. Both circuits are one half of the main 240VAC. You could try a ferrite bead on the power line, but it's probably EMF from the motor.
>>
>>2874551
>an EMI filter in the power line
this is probably the right solution.
>>
>>2874597
no no no no. you do not know what is a bot or shizo thread. i ... i will not write this again but https://arch.b4k.co/v/thread/696943316/#696953869 explains what such a thread is and i am literally banned on /g/ until 13.12.2024 for calling one such. This OP is 100% genuine human. I can guarantee it.

Now, his problem is quite unique as usually shielded and unexposed wires do not really emit anything.
idk what to say, maybe try another keyboard? or maybe try to have a surface that is flat and covered in foil like a wooden board or a cardboard covered in foil?
>>
>>2879553
quite unique? i >>2875996 hav ethe same problem, and i am a euro. but desu my motor controller does weird shit so...
old treadmills are just shit from an electrical standpoint
>>
>>2879565
can't you just somehow see a point around the treadmill that it would not be a problem to put some foil on? like you cannot put foil around the motor, obviously, but maybe around some of the top covers?
>>
>>2879568
mine is packed in a warehouse until my new house is finished, so dunno, and i dont remember how it was the inside.
but i though to first put a shielded wire, and maybe a magnet choke. both are cheap
>>
>>2879569
yea, good idea. this should resolve the problem.
>>
>>2874515
Choke, X-cap, Y-cap.
>>
>>2880611
Inductive Choke on the power cords is cheap and should suppress high frequency emf from the treadmill. If the keyboard has wires put one on it too. Grounding mat to prevent your own tumors maybe.
>>
OP here, I thought I was free and clear with a shielded keyboard, but today the computer wouldn't wake from sleep or start up with the treadmill running. Keyboard light was off. I just got a permanent Dell logo until I turned off the treadmill.
>>2880632
>>2880611
thanks, I'll look into these next
>>
Dad suggested we listen for it on AM radio. Sure enough, it sounds like the aliens talking in Signs. I ordered a bunch of ferrite chokes, we'll see if that takes care of it.
>>
The chokes arrived today, I haven't been able to duplicate the previous failure yet with them added. The motor still comes through loud and clear on AM radio, adding chokes to the power line didn't seem to change it. I'm thinking the ones on the keyboard cord will do the primary job though.
