What is something from another country's way of living inside a house that you want to do in your home, but choose not to because it would be weird? For me it's sleeping on a futon, they look comfy as hell, and you can roll them up and put them away which gives you lots more space for activities. They seem superior to a bed in every way, but like I said, it'd be weird if I had one where I live (Australia). As much as I like the idea of sleeping on one, I don't want to be known as 'that guy who sleeps on the floor.'
public toilets are disgusting, I wish we had a system like in india. Plants would grow much better and people need to be fit enough to squat, incentivizing everybody to be slim and hot
>>2877269You have no idea what you are talking about
>>2877247How often do people go into your bedroom? Why do you care? Just sleep on the floor bro. Make sure it's a good futon, don't go cheap.
>>2877278Never but I live with my parents. They're blabbermouths and they'd tell everyone. "My son sleeps on a mattress on the floor." They can't help themselves. Trust me, it's out of the question. I haven't tried it though, I'm probably gonna go to Japan next year, so if it's good maybe I'll get one if I move out.
>>2877282Have you ever stacked up like 5-6 blankets on the floor as a kid and slept on it? exact same concept and peak comfy. If anyone gives you shit just tell them you have back problems and the fire retardent foam in your mattress made your cock stop working
>>2877285Yes, and futons look comfy as hell to me, except I'm not sure about the pillow situation. I don't fall asleep easily when laying on my back with my face facing the ceiling. I usually toss and turn quite a bit in order to find a comfortable position to fall asleep in, usually on my side. But if I try a futon and it's the greatest thing ever, then I'll adopt it completely, and no one will ever be able to tell me a bed is better or that it's silly to sleep on the floor. I draw the line there though, I don't like the idea of sitting on the floor to eat meals and all that jazz.
>>2877286it only works if you do all the other things sitting down too and leave your shoes outside and basically make the whole floor a little elevated and comfy
I've been sleeping on the floor every night for a little over a year. It's nice. People say it's weird but I just say, >yeah but i think it's good for my spine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯If you're a generally reasonable person and you don't crumble whenever somebody questions your choices, nobody cares at all.Women you're romantically or sexually interested in probably care though.
>>2877247You will only have problems if you can't present yourself as confident in your choices or allow yourself to be presented as unconfident or inauthentic.Maybe they'll talk about it for a bit, but if you don't act up about it, then anyone who continues to harp on about it of their own accord is just going to seem like the weird and crazy one, not you.If you need a justification just keep it one-note, you want more space, it's comfortable and the routine of putting away the futon in the morning helps you wake up.>>2877282It's not weird to want to exercise some more control over your life even if you live with your parents, so don't let yourself feel bad about it.
>>2877247Sauna. I really enjoy them.
>>2877286look up buckwheat hull pillowsI sleep on a futon, but I also put it on a slat bed frame with a tatami mat above the slats to distribute the load a little more. I've slept that way for 5 years and it is very comfy and good for my back.
>>2877247A central garden/courtyard surrounded on all sides by the house.
>>2877247You can get a futon bed, which is just a raised platform for a futon.
>>2879668just like thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E88FrmeetbA
>>2877247Fully exposed brick and cement without without any sort of plaster or cover like Latin American shitholes. I just like rough utilitarian aesthetic
>>2877342I've been doing it for the last 45 days. Tried it out on a blanket and a sleeping bag and I'm gonna stick with it and get a thin cotton mattress for Christmas. It's nice to sleep on a firm surface that doesn't wobble or creak. What sort of padding do you sleep on?
>>2877269Pajeet spammer spottedAnyone with half a fucking brain knows open defecation causes hundreds of issues
>>2877247My brother had one. Then he got a gf.
>>2879724Anti-jeet spammer, it goes without saying. I do like the way they steal electricity in 3rd worlds, positively utopian that anyone with the balls can climb a high potential pole and add their load. Meanwhile my service meter is always counting for the utility jew. Wooden clogs seem comfy too.
>>2879672I lay one blanket down over the rug that's already thereIt did take a little while to get accustomed to
>>2877342>>2879672I used to sleep on the floor sometimes by choice when I was a kid. I did it recently too for a few days on carpet, with a big blanket. It's really comfy. I'd only worry about spiders.
>>2879732Nice. That's pretty thin. I've seen a few Youtubers try just a blanket on the floor and they found it too hard. I've tested levels and think that I need at least a few inches of padding. I'm curious if you just started out that way, or did you decrease padding over time?>>2879736Yeah them and house centipedes and ants are worth considering but, ultimately, our ancestors slept in fuckin' caves and you can imagine that pretty much everything else also slept in the cave with them. However I don't have any dangerous spiders around me...if I lived in the SW USA I'd worry about Brown Recluse and maybe scorpions. Do you have funky spiders in your house?
>>2879742>Do you have funky spiders in your house?Nothing poisonous I just have this paranoia that something will crawl into my ears. I just get a fuck load of daddy long legs inside.
>>2879742I didn't work up to it, I just did it.Some years ago I experimented with sleeping on just the bare floor and ended up waking to the sound of an ant crawling literally in my ear and that was pretty gross.I've had a cat chase a mouse onto where I'm sleeping once. But it's no big deal. Nothing really wants to enter your orifices. It's important to remember that these other critters are quite afraid of you and will avoid you in general.gp4w0
>>2879663tfw my dream home is an unholy agglomeration of Muromachi-period Japanese, Roman Villa and Brutalism
>>2877269Public toilets are disgusting and I consider the Amsterdam solution of pee curls to be a neater method than having an enclosed urinal odorbox where everyone is just going to piss on the floor anyway.>>2879748Don't worry, Daddy Long Legs aren't really spiders.
>>2879669if he was gonna bring the onion cooker why couldnt he have brought a hot plate and a pot instead of using the sink
>>2877247I'd get a German-style Flachspüler / poop shelf toilet. I just hate getting my butt splashed with nasty toilet water but it'd be tough to sell the place after.
>>2880264Where do i get one of these in America
>>2880264>it’d be tough to sell the place afterYou know you can get a toilet for very cheap… and it takes like an hour to install. If I owned my home I would def buy a nice toilet, and if I decided to sell the house I’d just take it with me and put in some 200$ Lowe’s project source bullshit for the next owner.
>>2880264This is the most vile disgusting piece of shit there is. Shit on the shelf stinks to high heaven, it sticks on the shelf and worst of all, diarrhea means youve got it everywhere, even under your fucking foreskin. Get that filth the fuck out of here.
>>2880264>>2880284>butt splashedJust toss down some toilet paper in the water before booping
>>2880372Yeah let's just do some extra work that shouldn't be necessary.
>>2879670Shit for locations with seasons
>>2880374you have to clean the poop shelf tho
>>2880387That's worth not having to care about the dreaded butt splash.
>>2877247I have a traditional shikibuton but it's just not very comfortable. I think the hardwood floors are just not soft enough.
>>2880390I've stayed at a bunch of traditional ryokan in Japan and the thing is that futons aren't really all that comfortable to begin with. FWIW it's nice if you're jetlagged and you want to get up early but I prefer staying in hotels with proper beds every other day.
this thread has inspired me to sleep on my floor tonight
>>2880393Yeah I ended up buying a mattress to put my futon on it then later just bought a bed.
>>2880081>Don't worry, Daddy Long Legs aren't really spiders.nta but where i am we have cellar spiders which are genuine spiders unlike harvestmen
>>2879670The utility situation in favelas and other similar third world shitholes amazes me. Sometimes I think about going over there and asking what brand wire tracer/toner they’re using because it must be the best.>>2879663This is what I said I always wanted if I were loaded, one of those Spanish style drug kingpin houses. The type where I can walk out of my bedroom on the second floor wearing my monogram bath robe with two topless girls, one blonde and one more ethnically ambiguous, wipe the cocaine residue off my left nostril, point to Jerry who is floating in my courtyard pool and ask “Where’s my money?!” and when he says “I’m a little behind this month boss!” I tells Tony to send him the same place we sent his good for nothin cousin Wayne and then Tony takes out his Uzi and sprays Jerry. Then I tell Big Ralph that we’re going to need the pool cleaner to come early this week.
>>2877247Just get one, Anon. I did and it was one of the best things I've ever done. They're super cheap on Amazon.
>>28803871. You have to clean a regular toilet anyway, especially after a splash2. You can do the same "throw down some toilet paper" trick to prevent sticking, except in this case it actually functions reliably and has no catastrophic failure mode>>2880294You're not supposed to sit in the toilet.
I want a bidet. I had one at my last house but I'll need to change the plumbing at my new one because the fuckhead plumber just direct spliced pex onto the toilet instead of putting a shutoff valve on the main supply and running a flex line to the tank.
Sleeping on the floor level is comfy, but sleeping on a raised platform keeps the bed more clear of bugs and shit.
>>2877282You have to be 18 to post here.
>>2879894same, my man.
>>2877247Futon is comfy but really you should go the extra step and get a kotatsu
>>2879672>>2879732>>2879736The problem with sleeping on the floor is that the floor is covered with dirt and dust.If you still decide to sleep on the floor, make sure you air the sleeping bag or mattress or whatever your sleeping on everyday. You wouldn't believe how quickly the underside of the mattress will get moldy
