I want to buy a golf cart from my buddy for a big Christmas gift for the family. He told me he'd sell it for around 1k. He's a neighbor, so don't think he'd intentionally fuck me over, but he said something to the effect of, "it works, sometimes it takes a little bit to get into reverse, or I might need to try a few times to get in reverse." I see him riding it around the neighborhood now and then, so I know it works.I'm in FL, and upon looking into FB marketplace, I see tons of flooded Golf Carts, but there are so many flooded ones from the hurricane, but typically nothing even near 1k.Looking long term, and assuming it'll need some fixing up in the future, the motor is somewhere between $500-$700, which is reasonable. Batteries are ~$200 a piece.>Has anyone ever worked on these? >Are they more trouble than they're worth? >Anything specific to look for when inspecting it?>Any general advice?
>>2879897>takes a little bit to get into reverse, might just be the contactor. contacts could be burned or corroded
>>2879898Thank you for this, I'm just now getting into looking how these things are put together, and I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to electric motors and such. Is there a quick way to test this rather than just visual inspection for corrosion? Also, anything else to look for?
>>2879897buy a gas golf cart
>>2879908id make sure it was a common brand/model like ezgo so parts would be easy and lots of boomer forum posts for troubleshooting. its just low voltage bone simple switching and a motor. not even a step up from wiring an outlet/light switch in your house
>>2879897I fucking knew you were floridian as i saw 'golf cart'. Publix is overrated
>>2879927Pub subs are tits. Especially if you get the chicken tender sub with guacamole in lieu of mayonnaise. Super fucking good. >>2879926I think it's a club car, but that makes sense. And as far as working on it, it honestly seems just like my daughters little barbie jeep, very simple.
