I found this while christmas shopping at Ross of all places, paid $9, seems like $50ish online. I didn't need it, but I wanted it, so I bought it.we haven't exchanged or opened any gifts yet here but tell me, frens, what did you get this christmas? it can be for yourself or as a gift from someone else
>>2882999Very nice find and a good deal frenI got a set of el cheapo cast iron pans that I'm pretty sure were regifts but that's fine I can use them camping
>>2883001That's awesomeI find cornbread is one of the best things for adding seasoning to a new pan
>>2883001I love me some cast iron, but it’s impossible to convince the wife to stop scrubbing it with soap every time I use the cast iron griddle I have.I got her a cast iron dutch oven awhile back, and she has this artesian bread recipe she makes inside the dutch oven and legit it’s some of the best bread I’ve ever had.And then my mom bought me picrel, it’s like $180 for that frying pan and lid which is nuts. I’m skeptical that it will be much better than my 3 for $60 Costco sale pans, and I kind of want to return it because that old lady shouldn’t be spending so much money on me, but it would offend her greatly.
>>2882999Also I bought some Twingrips for the father in law.Non /diy/ related, after spending $150 at Bath & Body Works, that place is sort of overpriced. I guess chicks like their moisturizing crap and candles. And I probably spent $300 or $400 on earrings because that seems to be a gift that most women will wear. Just get a bunch of like $50 gemstone stud earrings and try to remember what you gave them in prior years. The mother in law got garnet last year, so she gets blue topaz this year, wife got opals, mom got citrine and pearls, grandma in law got emerald last year so she gets some pearls too.Little brother is into meterology stuff, so I got him one of those weather station things where it’s like a tablet he sets on his desk, and then he hangs a remote sensor outside on his balcony, and it will give him indoor and outdoor temp and humidity and barometric pressure.
>>2883061soap is fine to use on a cast iron unless you live in the 1930s and somehow still use lye soap. any normal dish soap isn't going to harm the coating or leave a flavor, so your wife is doing the right thing here
>>2882999>what did you get this christmas?annoyed.
>>2883615>>what did you get this christmas?>annoyed.Ah yes, an old-time favorite.
>>2883607Nah she somehow scrubs it and leaves it in a wet dish rack and there will be a spot or two of rust at the end. That Dawn Powerwash stuff is the real deal.
>>2883642Sitting wet will give them rust spots whether you use soap or not (but you should really use soap). I towel dry mine and will heat them up on the stove a bit to evaporate all the water completely. They love it.
>>2882999That's a good hammer. I use it a lot at work. Did you get it with a mill/waffle face or double smooth?
>>2883061>>2883642If you deglaze your pan while it's hot, there will be nothing to scrub.>remove food>drain grease>add enough water to have 1/4"-1/2" in bottom of pan>let it boil for a couple minutes>let it cool>rinse>dry
>>2883065>Little brother is into meterology stuff, so I got him one of those weather station things where it’s like a tablet he sets on his desk, and then he hangs a remote sensor outside on his balcony, and it will give him indoor and outdoor temp and humidity and barometric pressure.Based and thoughtful
I got a Flir thermal imaging camera from my wife, and my son got me some knipex twingrips and a pliers wrench. Got my son a couple knives and a $100 gift card to harbor freight and have been helping him get a flatbed fixed up and mounted on his pickup. I made a couple dinner bell triangles for my wife and a cross necklace out of some stainless steel (she specifically requested those two things) and then she had been talking about getting a decent metal detector for some time so I got her a vanquish minelab 540 and a pro-find 15 pinpointer. Oh and I also got myself some Temo cobalt step bits off Amazon. They did the best in projectfarm's testing. I bought some cheap ones a while back off ebay that were absolute dogshit so i figured i needed to get something better. Honestly the HF ones do pretty good, but eventually dull or break and even the drillhog ones off ebay didnt seem to do much better. I abuse the shit out of step bits though!
>>2884424I got him and his fiancee a custom ornament with them and the 2 kittens they just adopted, and the fucks misspelled one of the cat’s names.>>2884428I got the father in law some Twingrips too. It’s strange because he went on a Klein spending spree a couple years ago, and he likes Wera so he must go on Reddit, but it didn’t seem like he knew the Knipex box right away when he saw it. I told him to google “Twingrips” and he was on his phone for a bit and seemed excited by an hour later. I don’t think I have seen him with Knipex before. How does he ask for Wera but not know Knipex? Can’t figure it out since he doesn’t speak English worth a damn. All I’m trying to do is get him stuff his 3 daughters would never think to get him. Got him some Xuron micro pliers because he liked my cheap Crescent ones when he used em, and he seemed stoked on those. I still want to get some Xurons for myself, those are some lab grade stuff right there but I’ll end up on a $400 Xuron collecting spree
>>2884428>drillhogThat company sketches me out. I think I was looking at some of their stuff in the past and it had American flags but was made overseas. I’ll do good ol’ Viking or Chicago Latrobe for the money.
>>2884449>That company sketches me out. I think I was looking at some of their stuff in the past and it had American flags but was made overseas. I’ll do good ol’ Viking or Chicago Latrobe for the money. They had a good deal on some Silver and Deming cobalt bits so I bought a set. Supposed to have a lifetime warranty, but I also hate sending shit back for warranty as it's a royal pain in my ass... Should probably send back a couple of the step bits I dulled and see if they will honor their shit.
>>2882999>I found this while christmas shopping at Ross of all placesTJMaxx and Ross tend to have those items since the wife or gf drags them along when shopping. They have automotive and hardware specifically for that reason, so that the men don't hate their lives.Men should also just buy their shoes from there. They're oftentimes 1/3 to 1/2 the normal retail and the insoles to make them better are right next to them.>t. a lot of outlet shopping
>>2883061As long as she doesn't put it in the dishwasher. Dish soap and a dobie pad will be fine.
>>2882999Got a set of Kobalt Casestack toolboxes, the 3 in 1 dooly type deal.Seems pretty okay-ish, need to figure out how to adapt my Milwaukee packout to clip onto it somehow, as there don't seem to be any adapters online...
Where are my $74 Hart stacker bros? Was just at a Walmart and saw they have two tool bags for the stacker, they got a full size and a half. They actually seem pretty well built, not exactly cheap either but I’m sure more affordable than Packout.I’m wondering if those are new. I’m hoping they keep releasing more material. I kinda want a bin that clips on the top, would be nice for materials
>>2886913Love my little CLC bag though, prob could toss a bungee around it. That half bag has me thinking.
