Think vertically. Cover every vertical surface with shelf. To organize your stuff, just do a quick and dirty stacking on the shelf, then every time you need something, move it one step more centrally for example from top shelf to eye level shelf or from far right to center. Eventually, things will settle in a pattern sorted by how often you use them.

Make sure you keep things single leveled. That is, make sure you don't have to move things out of the way to grab something, have clear access paths to everything. Pretend there's a fire, could you grab something from anywhere quickly and run?

Maximalism is often interpreted as filling every nook and cranny with stuff, but that's not necessarily true. Take your pic for example, some of those shelfs have decorations. Imagine instead if you just had even more books stacked in front of the other books? That'd be a mess. Essentially you should think of both the object and the space needed to access and use the object as a whole. That space can be filled with unobtrusive decorations then.

Finally, use murphy tables, under desk hooks, pegboards, etc... the common theme is turning vertical surfaces into horizontal surfaces.

Go to the last resort fire department near downtown seattle. the owner is usually there on most business days. Ask for a tour of his office and his garage. Just don't touch the chrome on the fire engines, unless you want to spend the day polishing it.

If I remember correctly he has 11 fire engines in a space designed to hold 4 at the most.

he is an expert on maximizing the use of space.

Just try to think about how many different configurations you can put things in while keeping everything trivially accessible.
The theory is that if something has empty space above or below it, then that empty space can be filled or repurposed.

This has the right of it. Maximalism can be nice, but not if you have to engage in inventory tetris to get anything done.
It's just demotivating to need to create clutter to clean clutter, it ruins your ability to conceptualize forward progress.
By that logic avoid creating surfaces covered in truly random crap.

Not settling on a hobby is good, but if storage for your hobbies starts patterns of destructive interference, then you won't engage in any hobbies.

I remember about 12 years ago there were threads from a guy who had an industrial robotic arm he was trying to reprogram as a sex toy
I wonder if it ever crushed him
