>want to build a house/cabin on my dads farm with him>he’s a mason and I have helped him so we know how to lay brick>want to built it solid masonry 3 wythe thick>want first few courses to be granite rock >can’t because codeniggers complain about insulation and granite not being an approved material I absolutely hate code enforcement and their, often times, bullshit restrictions
>>2885073I ran into similar problems with code enforcement, basically, some don’t even understand the basic principle of their jobs: that codes are supposed to be the *minimum* acceptable practice.Instead, they treat the code as the *only* way to do it, which leads to some of the current enshitification problem of everything. It’s also a bit of a scam, when a natural disaster, such as a hailstorm goes through, companies get a huge win by charging 100x for some tar paper with sand on it. It’s against code here to roof with metal (except for commerical buildings) or something like clay tile (like the rest of the world for 1000s of years). You should be able to get away with just using a facing course of granite if you’re worried about water degradation.
>>2885073Paint the granite red and tell them it's brick
>>2885073Why would you ever want to build a chimney on the outside wall and not in the middle of the house? Im not an expert but you would think that you want to heat the house and not the outside air?
>>2885094>fireplaces on each end of the house Better way of heating the hiuse. The warmth goes from the exterior walls inward.
It’s for your own good
>>2885073>codeniggers complain about insulationCan you get away with saying that the granite courses are just the foundation?
>>2885104>The warmth goes from the exterior walls inward. And outwards. Not optimal.
>>2885104>>2887086ya seems like this would be better
>>2885073I feel like the easiest way to build an old school house at this point would be to buy a pre-existing run down old house in the middle of nowhere, knock it down and start from scratch with the same square footage and the code jews would be none the wiser that anything even happened. The codes are just too ridiculous these days.
>>2885094Creosote fires were once a really common way of losing ones home. By having the chimney on the end of the house it reduces the likelihood of that. Also, really, really old homes often times didn't have the chimney attached to the house so you could pull it down away from the house if there was a creosote fire. These were generally 'rustic' homes to begin with. Like OP's pic.
>>2887817>be a retard incapable of building and operating a wood stove even when it used to be a critical part of surviving through a winterhow the fuck are you retards the technology world leaders is beyond me, i get it if your summer cabin has the chimney outside so you can have an open flame when its chilly and not cold, but motherfuckers in minnesota have those retarded ass chimneys
>>2885073Why not just build without them knowing?
