Everything is measured, checked, cut & test fits perfect... Until it's installed. I have removed/installed/removed/re-installed this nook 3 times. concrete block construction, so atypical to begin with.

acrylic tub, deeper than the original by about an inch. there are reinforcement ribs molded on the bottom. they are smaller, thus more numerous and cover more area because of their reduced size. the ribs were contacting part of the shoe, pushing it away from the mating surface. got it sorted, but it cost me 8 hours. had to undo 80% of what I did 2x yesterday. I'm a one-man crew, so no extra hands to help lift, hold, maneuver, prop or adjust.

78 year old construction. I envy the "new build" guys.

Sorry to hear that anon, but it all looks good! Respect for the build, I can't be assed to do a bathroom.

My next nightmare is the delta valve. the allen head set screw holding the handle on the stem is seized. cartridge is fine, no need to replace. the handle, however, must be removed for shower wall installation. I already spent an hour trying to free it, several weeks ago. PB Blaster & heat made no difference. hoping time helped, but I'm doubtful.
>>
>>2885592
> spent an hour
Lol! That’s nothing, I spent a whole weekend of 10 hour days replacing a fucking moen cartridge.

The allen wrench you used was probably wrong, mine needed, like, 11/64th or some shit like that, but it was too late.

Screw extract, drill, and re-tap, get a bigger SS set screw (instead of the soft brass they cone with)
… it’s all intended to generate revenue for plumbers.
>>
>>2885592
i see pex in that picture dude. just cut that valve out and put in a new one, don't waste your time struggling.
>>

> cut and replace
Thanks, plumber trying to drum up business.
Even to do that yourself is $500 worth of parts and tools.
#1 rule that real contractors follow is don’t touch anything anless you absolutely have to.
In some jurisdictions, you even have to get it inspected!
>>
>>2885592
Unless that set screw is made of drill-resistant adamantium then drill that fucker out. Try not to break the drill bit off inside the handle for party mode.
>>
>>2885512
what is that a handwash basin? looks about 3ft long. knees round your ears taking a fucking bath.
couldn't fit a shower in that tiny gap instead no?

>$500 worth of parts
maybe the valve and trim at max are $200, but frankly if you're doing that bath remodel they should probably be replaced anyway
$20 in fittings, you can rent a pex gun for a couple hours for like $30 or spend $50 on the hand tool
OR
just spend $50 on fittings and do all sharkbite
OR
waste 20 hours getting pissed off I guess
me, personally, give shit like that an hour before I switch to cut it out and replace. especially when everything is already opened up and no extra demo required
>>
>>2887111
> sharkbite inside walls
No, thanks tho.
> $50 on hand tool
You must live in china, or china’s protectorate. I don’t. The shipping alone for this shit is $50.
More likely though, you’re a 15 yr old on christmas vacation.
> $30 rental
Loool, yeah, i’ll just drive down to the local pumber’s rental facility that’s always 1-block away from everywhere and always has undamaged tools available for rent—exactly what I need, too.
Last time I trecked out to home depot, they didn’t have the parts, and didn’t even sell them… I had to order it from Ace, and it took weeks. It was just a 1/2” 3/4” dwv tee.

I'm the fucking guy that gets called & hired. I've been doing this for 25 years. I don't post the easy in 'n' out jobs. there's no fun in that. this is a near-total demolition & remodel. I am a multiple-trade-certified tech. the "easy answer" is not always just remove and replace. Often, the *easy & correct* answer is to service & repair... such is the case on this delta. after 30 minutes of fucking with it to remove the old cartridge, I popped the new one in and we are good for another 12 years. no need to cut, destroy, replace, buy and rent new equipmemt. 27 financial credits for a new valve & 30 minutes of listening to "Little House On The Prarie" while carefully removing the stuck plastic & rubber from the old cartridge and it's done. I get paid the same hourly, but me and the customer save money, I save time & I get references & tips based on savings and obvious skill.

no one wants to hire the technician whose answer for everything is "We're gonna need to buy a new one and replace it. it'll be better, but it's cost a SHIT TON more! they call the next guy, who offers an honest repair and you look like a hack.

now that the crippling freeze has passed (temporarily) I am back to plumbing.

the final wall would not fit into place with the valve body protruding as it has been. the new shower kit does not have as much void behind it. I have cut the newly installed wood supports/bracing to recess the valve body. I had to shut off the water & remove the cartridge to allow for test fitting the wall. I knew this last week, but wanted to at least get it temporarily assembled and water dripping through freeze.

holy crap.

that was a tedious & tooth-clenching install. the fiberglass / acrylic panels are a tight fit in the best install. here, due to 78 year old, asymmetrical & non-standerd construction; they are tighter and more difficult to insert and slide to lock. all holes are measured & drilled ahead, but the angle of install requires adjustments. those adjustments must be done so that they are invisible & tight. this requires lots of CAREFULLY tapping, routing & pressing into place, while not cracking or breaking the incredibly brittle panels.

finished it just in time to turn the water back on & allow faucets to drip for our sub-zero nighttime temperatures.

What's up anon, I don't envy you. Been doing a shower myself, but it's a frameless so the walls need to be PERFECTLY plumb, and the whole room is slightly out of square so i chose to slightly cock the shower off the wall so the tile wouldn't have an obvious taper where it hit the shower pan. Had to do all kids of bullshit shimming to the studs.

i would love this if not for the stupid adjustable handheld that can't even reach 50% of the rod length
really lowers the otherwise clean appearance
should have fed it from a seperate nipple or not used an adjustable rod, just a small slide in just below the main head
>>
>>2888540
are you referring to the handheld hose? yeah i bought every individual piece separately and can just get a longer hose, no biggie. the hose/handheld/etc are all amazon chinkshit except the valve body and trim kit which are delta, and the head which is hansgrohe. i thought of adding a separate nipple and diverter for the handheld but i wanted to minimize plumbing changes (this remodel was necessitated after discovering the original shower had leaked at the curb over years and rotted out the subfloor)

>>2888520
yeah i need to re-adjust the door. i'm so scared of exploding the tempered glass that i'm reticent to tighten down the clamp part of the hinge too much, even though i know it can take it and the instructions specifically say not to worry about it
