I set my project to RGB mode, and I’ve made sure I’m not just selecting the layer mask!
However, I still can’t get Photoshop to change one color (in this case, black) to another color (gold).
I’ve tried everything I could find online, but nothing is working so far!
Please help!

Check the display modes, maybe you accidentally enabled print proof preview or colorblind simulation mode.
