Can confirm. Most 40k armies are just snapped together out of the box and played as is. I use colored tape to differentiate units.

What do you use/how do you do it? I'm interested in resin printing figurines. I've mainly been printing large props but now wanna do this too, non-40k stuff but same concept, how do you do the painting side

Yo use an air brush to spray on a epoxy based primer

Then you use paint marketed for models and water to water down the pigments and you paint the mini

Some guys do crazy shit like shading and shadows or alternate light sources

But at the very basic level prime, paint, then use a watered down shading medium wash - most popular in warhammer and the brand name is nuln oil
