>>2969611Is it leaking from the threads or from the brass ring? You can use tape on a compression fitting so long as you use it properly and don't clog them. Or you can use pipe dope. Ideally you wouldn't have to, but obviously you have a special situation. Or just leave it. As another poster said, at that rate, it'll corrode shut in a week or so.

>>2969611>I could try but draining and then refilling the system takes hoursYou should shut off all your other radiators first so they retain their water, but honestly you should be able to do these kind of repairs with the water still on if you're quick and have a bucket. With the TRV off you shouldn't be getting that much draining at the bottom.
>>2969611>I also tried with 2x 45 degree soldering joints but that made the offset too bigUsing a street 45 for one of the elbows will give you an offset of about the diameter of the pipe. One end of the street elbow slips into the end of the other elbow eliminating the piece between them.

Could I just wrap the copper oil feed tube with kapton tape, and coil nichrome around it to pre-heat my oil? I need to at least get it to around 100 or so degrees Fahrenheit, with higher being a bit better. Anything too hot would melt the solder on the various fittings I've used.
>>2970019I have no real issues with PEX, I just hate that it's more or less being mandated when there is nothing really wrong with the current system. You either have to buy sharkbite fittings to blend them or adaptors, neither of which are cheap compared to a 50c pvc coupler or copper. Like now they're trying to tell people you shouldn't use galvanized anymore because the coating wears off. First off, they don't put the coating on the inside of long pipes and for another, it's the chemicals they put in tap water that corrode the zinc, not the water. /rant
>>2970022Couldn't you just take some soft copper and wrap it around your exhaust stack to scavenge heat and pre-warm your oil?
>>2970039I could do that, but I would need someway to still preheat the oil at first startup.Normally people start off with propane (for pre-heating) then switch the system over to waste oil + compressed air, but my setup provides too little air flow without modifications that would then introduce too much air for waste oil.
I made a question last thread about a faulty crt green gun and the issue came back. This is what happens:Sometimes after about one hour of usage there's a 1/4 chance the green gun either loses a lot of intensity or turns off completely and the picture becomes purple. Then, if i turn the monitor off and on immediately after, there's like a 1/2 chance it fixes itself and the image is normal. What could be the cause of this?

>>2970146Is it though? Because sometimes the green turns back on and works for hours. Sometimes it just won't turn back on. I also used this monitor for two years with no issues, but i moved it around quite a lot these past months and this started happening.
>>2968869How do you guys deal with people that are very insufferable and also participate in your favorite kind of DIY activities? I used to be interested in a lot of things, like 3D printing, software, electronics etc, but I kinda slowly lost interest in those spaces, because I kinda started noticing that those hobbies are infested with people who are very pushy, self-righteous and annoying, especially in regards to software. I recently wanted to maybe re-enter those spheres but i sadly started noticing them again. I asked this question a few different people and they I should rather seek therapy because I am not nearly as hated as I think I am. >>2970475If EVERYBODY else seems to be the problem, it's probably just you frenSorry
>>2970486No need to apologize, anon. A few years back I started my journey to become 1337 software guy, but eventually I started noticing that most software hackers and people alike very often share some very questionable opinions and have very hard time tolerating those who do not agree with them. They also tend to power-trip a lot and abuse their "powers" (lets call it that way for the same of simplicity) to ostracize people they don't like, I think you know I mean. Then I thought about taking the hardware path, and I have started noticing that hardware guys often look exactly like the same kind of people, although its not that common in this space. As an adult person, I do not really like talking about politics and stuff, but it seems to me that either the vast majority of this hacking/tech community is like this or I am just being delusional. I recently also shifted my interests to spaces filled with people that (I think) don't hate me, like knives, tools, manual labor, herbs or (regular, old fashioned) electrical engineering. I know I probably shouldn't ask those kind of questions here, but I feel like I might be wrong in this regard and most of this hate only happens in my head, even though I think some of you can agree that those high tech guys can be often very insufferable.

I want to electrocu- wait. I want to build a lamp, using LED tube lights. However the length I need is not availble. The 288mm are to short and the 600mm ones are to long. Can I cut pic rel, an Osram LED tube T8 60cm 8W/830 G13 720lm, open and in that way shorten it? I already know that it only needs a socket on one side. The opposite side is basicalle dead and merely for mounting purposes in off-the-shelf lamps. I was hoping, that the inside is just a basic LED strip with those pre-defined cut off points every 3 LED spots. Is that possible?
>>2970581Why not just use a basic LED strip?
>>2970583>>2970583I got an old chandelier and want to have the LED tubes coming from the rewired sockets, straight up into a ceiling mounting plate. To get the desired look, I need the LEDs to be tubes.
>>2970585Well the main issue you'll have with tube lights is that they tend to be opaque on the back. I'd probably just find some kind of frosted acrylic tube that's wide enough to fit an LED filament into.
>>2970586I might have to bite that bullet and orientate that darkish "seam" inwards to achieve at least some symmetry in the design. I found that these flexible LED tubes either have gaps that are to big between the single spots, to achieve a uniform lighting with a frosted tube, or also have that not illuminated backside. My chandelier has seven flames. Bridging the ~50cm with the ideal solution would be quite expensive, I reckon, and therefore not really an option, unfortunately. For a past build I did just that - orientation the seam towards the wall. I just checked, and that seam is actually quit big, I forgot.. welp.

>>2970639I could do that, but I don't know what kind of LEDs would work with that. As I said, I only found LED stripes that either have their LEDs spaced to far, or a not illuminated back, themselves. I also doubt, that DIY frosting (sanding/baking paper) would work better than the one on the store bought LED tubes. I built another lamp, where I diffused a light source with baking paper, but in that case the bulb is pretty far away from the lamp shade (pic related). But maybe you can point me into a direction of proper LEDs to use and a fitting diffusing technique for minimal distance between diffusor and light source.Maybe I can use a frosted tube around the Osram LED tubes, I originally posted. That might hide the darker seam.
I dream of building my house one day, and I want to build it in a very specific way: with minimal steel frame done akin to wooden post-and-beam, made of a relatively small number of thicc strong components. Just imagine a 5 meter long load-bearing "beam" without extra supports, made of steel pipes, and you'll get what I have in mind. But when I check out steel frame construction videos I always see them using shitloads of closely spaced 1.5mm thin steel profiles. Is the method that I have in mind just unpopular, or unsound?

>>2970683You can move 3000lb trailer with a $5 10W 12V motor too, it's just going to have to be geared way the fuck down. You need to know your target speed and maximum target incline, from that you can roughly calculate how much power you will need. Much more difficult will be figuring out how to gear the motor down, or how to buy a gear motor, because no random couple hundred watt 12V ungeared motor is going to have the torque to move the trailer. But you can buy an entire trailer dolly for $200 from chinks so this might not be worth /diy/ing. You can also maybe reference the fact that the chinks have 350W motors on their stuff.
How to fix this? From what I've learned by playing with it myself, it seems turning the knob pushes a little white cone that connects two metal plates that makes this little electric stove heat up, but now the knob no longer pushes far enough / connects the metal plates. I tried pushing the bottom metal plate myself with a screwdriver and it worked, the stove started heating again, but if I stop pushing it stops working. How can I make it work properly again? My lunch and dinner depend on this.https://imgur.com/a/5Mzgka3
Someone at a store saves me about half a gallon of pickling brine a week and I would like to reduce it back to seasoning. I know you could boil it but that would cost money. What would be the best, cleanest free way to evaporate the liquid out of it?
>>2970842I'd take a wide-mouth jar, paint it matte black outside, cover the top with a cheesecloth and leave it in some well-ventilated spot next to a window. Sun is free heat.

I'm repairing a commercial fridge, and something's not adding up here. The compressor burnt out (nobody was cleaning the condenser), but, after replacing it, I was getting crazy numbers. Like 65°F SH, 50°F SC. I figured the capillary had clogged (134a system) and replaced it. But that didn't significantly change anything. Thought I had maybe managed to partially clog the cap when I brazed it in, but, after retrying, I hadn't.What the fuck is going on? I initially looked at the service manual for this model (TSR-49SD):http://www.refmech.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Turbo-Air-TSR-service-manual.pdf...which shows a 950mm 1.2mm ID tube as a replacement. I dismissed it as an error because the inside of the cabinet itself is much longer than that. There's no way anything shorter than about 80" could even physically reach the evap. At this point, I've extended the liquid line up the back of the fridge so a much shorter capillary can be used, but I cut it down to about 78" (far shorter than the 108" I had the originally roughly measured at) and I'm still at well over 30°F of superheat at the evap, with another 10° or so on top of that at the compressor.Note that everything else looks good. The capillaries are the same ID. Condenser pressure, compressor current, I've even poked around with the thermal camera, it's all right around what's expected. Is it actually possible the manufacturer just horribly fucked up and specced the wrong cap tube when this thing was built? I've already spent way too long messing with this thing but it's using like $1400/yr in electric, which is crazy for how small it is.

How do we feel about using copper paste as a lubricant between plastic and steel? Some of my dear colleagues have done this, and I just feel it's very wrong, but I can't really articulate why.
>>2970954Hmm, copper is soft but it's still much harder than plastic or rubber so immediately my mind goes to causing more damage than it's preventing through abrasion
>>2969251It quite literally is your business barnacle butt.
>>2970956right? also, it's oil based. It isn't in an application that gets hot, and it is two parts that are meant to separate easily. And the instructions obviously says to use grease.
>>2970954Short answer:Copper anti-seize is generally not suitable as a lubricant for most plastics.Facts:Copper anti-seize is formulated for metal-to-metal contact. It contains metal particles (copper) plus a petroleum or synthetic grease carrier. Many plastics are chemically attacked by the carrier oils (swelling, softening, cracking).Solid copper particles can act as an abrasive against plastic, increasing wear rather than reducing it.It can stain plastics permanently. It offers poor low-friction performance for plastic-on-plastic or plastic-on-metal compared to proper alternatives.Plastics commonly damaged by anti-seize:ABSPolycarbonatePolystyrenePVCNylon (often swells or weakens)Plastics that might tolerate it (still not recommended):PTFE (Teflon)UHMWHDPEEven here, it provides no advantage over correct lubricants. What to use instead (depending on need):Silicone grease safest general option for plasticsPTFE (Teflon) grease or dry spray low friction, plastic-safeWhite lithium (plastic-safe labeled only) limited casesDry lubricants (graphite-free for plastics) dust-free applicationsBottom line:Copper anti-seize should be avoided on plastics. It risks chemical damage, abrasion, and unnecessary wear, and there are better, purpose-made lubricants for plastic components

>>2968869/diy/, I need your help. This house was built in the 40s, and I want to build an access panel that somewhat blends in with this tile wall. The hole was made to access the shower pipes to fix a leak; and since there's already a hole through the tile, I would like to make a removable panel to have access to the shower faucet should I need to change them out. How should I do this? Should I use the basic materials that would usually be used if I were doing a whole tile job (not sure what that is. drywall and thinset?), or would it make more sense to use maybe some sort of shapeable foam and wood or clay? I was planning on holding the panel in place with magnets and hiding the seam with caulking. Though, hiding the seam might not matter since my spare tiles don't quite match the color. This is on the outside of the shower wall. This shouldn't come into any direct contact with water, but it's still in a bathroom.

I got permission from a railroad supervisor to get two huge bridge timbers that have been sitting at a crossing for several years. I want them for a bridge across a ditch on my property but getting them loaded is a logistical issue. I have access to a truck and trailer that would easily haul them. Hiring someone to load them would be several hundred dollars. So I've got the trailer, some ramps and a floor jack. That's about all I can think of that I already have that would be usefulIdeas?
>>2971050How big are we walking? You can get 2 ton block and tackle setups fairly cheap. Hook that up to your trailer, then get the timbers up on some short lengths of pipe, then use the pulleys to winch it up onto the trailer using the pipes as rollers. Anyone recommendations on a decent scanner? Thoughts on Harbor Fart's Icon T7 versus something like the $300'ish Topdon units from Amazon? I know the former is wired only and doesn't even have their helpy helperton app for dummies while the latter is about $100 cheaper and has Bluetooth and a camera. I don't really care about the camera, I'm not buying it to do commercial work, but whatever I get needs to bring me up to date with modern features like live data.I've been using pic related for a long time but it looks like I'm going to be chasing a P0171 in my pop's car and everything I've read/watched says live fuel trim is gonna be helpful. I'm renovating my small house and it's a nightmare that all the actual living stuff I have to use everyday gets in the way of the reno so I'm thinking of "moving" to a backyard shed(don't worry its brick and relatively well insulated) for a few months to be out of the way until it's done so I would only have to use the main house for pooping/showering, laundry and refilling/dumping water(for the shed sink with a fresh and grey water jugs). However there is no electric wiring and I know jackshit about electricity so Im wondering if it would work to run an extension cord from the main house or if it would shit itself.I have pic related, it's 50m and it says it's 3G 1.5mm.My idea was to use the 4 outlets for all my needs:- small bar fridge(60W, 220-240V), would be on all the time- another to alternate between a small air fryer/induction stoveplate when cooking- another for occasional misc stuff like phone charging, water pump charging and a 400W heater for when it's really cold- another with another normal interior extension to plug my monitor, miniPC, speakers and a lamp, would likely be on most of the dayDo you think it is doable or impossible/risky and if so is there like a better extension I could buy that could take care of the job? Also, obviously the actual connections are inside but for the part of the cable running outside, is it fine for it to catch rain or would it require some kind of extra protection?
>>2971249It'll be fine. Just don't run everything at once.
>>2971251Phew, okay nice. So I reckon it's best I always turn off my PC when using one of the cooking appliances?
>>2971253miniPCs are nothing. That and your monitor are probably <100w running all out. Just don't run your hotplate and heater at the same time. Keep any load under 1500w and there shouldn't be any issues if the cord is quality. If you're worried, keep an eye on it and see if the cord is getting hot. I assume you'll only be running the heater (the biggest power draw along with your cooking plate) at night anyway.

guys I got bit of a dilemma that I need advice onI bought myself a high-shelf hilti angle grinder recently that cost me like $750 (aussie bucks), now the problem is that the battery I have for it (4.0Ah) overheats after literally 5 minutes of use. I know the battery is fine as I have a hilti leaf blower and it works without issue and no problem for ages, but the angle grinder literally makes it meltSo I have 2 options, either I get the 8.0Ah battery, which is fkn $510 and hope it has adequate power delivery, or I literally just buy myself another angle grinder on another platform I already have batteries for (hikoki/metabo)wat do?

My line of thinking is to mount a velcro patch to the top of my mask and rivet or screw on a velcro strap to the plastic piece. I'm not sure how to attach the velcro patch to the mask. I can see maybe sewing it through the metal mesh, but I'm wondering if there's a better way.

Electrical question. I was cataloguing my breaker box and the line the mini split was on did not turn on after flipping it back on. At first I figured the breaker died but after replacing it it is sitll out. I am not getting power at the fuse box for the mine split either so I guess somehow I lost continuity between the fuse box and the breaker box. Am I fucked and just need to run more wire?
>>2971368There’s a much better chance if there’s a problem with wiring, it’s at the terminations. Get your meter out and find where the power really stops and make sure there’s no junction boxes that could have loose or burnt wire connections. Also check your breaker and any shutoff near the unit.

This set of old coveralls had two zippers, one at the top for donning/doffing and a second at the bottom for opening them slightly to take a leak. The top one broke and I removed it. There are stops at both ends that keep it captive on both sides. Is there any fixing this?
Is it safe to run my oil-fill space heater on low, which I think consumes 600W on that setting, on an outlet in my attic that doesn't seem to be upgraded from knob and tube? I did it all last winter with no issues and the prongs in the outlet never felt warm to the touch after running for a while

That would be a ball joint or a broken spring spring. This is one of those things where it might be worth the money having a mechanic put it on a lift and diagnosing. You can spend a fortune chasing the could-bes of suspension noise.
>>2971699>>2971699The inner tie rod needed to be replaced on both sides when I took it apart. I replaced both inner and outer tie rod on both sides I took it to a tire shop to get a wheel alignment and when I picked it up I asked the lady if there were any issues and she said no. She said we we wouldn't do a wheel alignment if it needed parts. The clunk only occurs when I turn the wheel. Doesn't happen when go over pot holes or speed bumps. I'll take it to a auto mechanic this time and get the suspension/noise diagnosed.
>>2971747Does it have macphersons like the other anon asked? That will definitely make a major clunk when turning the wheel. I had a sunfire that did that. It didn't end up being a cracked spring.
>>2971758>didn'tDID end up bring a cracked spring. Damned typos.
>>2971205Yeah, just wasn't sure if there was any benefit to the more advanced ones that might make diagnosis faster. Anything is an upgrade from where I'm at. I'll probably get a newer cheap handheld plug-in unit then step up from there if I need to.He has a 2018 Corolla. He's pretty good about basic upkeep so the air filter and intake were spotless. I advised against it but put in a new MAF for him. Of course the code came back. To be fair it was the easiest place to start but it ended up being money down the drain. Visual inspection of the vacuum hoses didn't turn up anything. Gonna gauge them regardless, once I pick up a scanner, just to rule out additional problems.Apparently it was cranking but refusing to start the other day before he got running again. I'm thinking intermittent/failing fuel pump at this point. Seems a number of Toyota models had fuel pump recalls that year but his supposedly wasn't impacted. On the bright side I'm pretty sure there's an access panel under the back seat so I won't have to drop the tank.
I know this is /diy/ not /consumer advice/ but,I bought a refurb dyson v11 from their ebay store a few months ago when it was on sale and not to start slobbing their knob but it's a pretty damn good vacuum, especially at 250 bucks. I wanted to buy another one as a gift, but they don't sell the v11 package I bought anymore (with all of the tools and powered brush head) but they do have an sv29 which apparently is the same basic model but with a bigger brush head, bin and battery, plus all of the same tools, and to top it off its CHEAPER at only $200. How does that work, the bigger version that's better in every way (except weight) is substantially cheaper? They also have another listing for the same model with the only difference as far as I could tell being that it comes with a couple fewer accessories and the stick is red instead of gray, but it's 30 or 40 dollars more for some reason.
>>2971388I guess now that the crucible question is moot: does anyone have miscellaneous advice for casting at home, outside of obvious things like using a respirator and doing it outside? Unexpected things you found out the hard way, like metals to use/avoid or something?

>>2971758How would I check? Will the name be listed on the springs?
>>2971828Macpherson is just the name of the suspension design. They look like this:>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacPherson_strutThey work by turning the entire spring and strut. When broke, they clunk, it's usually only on sharp turns around 90 degrees. They usually don't do it going down the road or every time you go around a bend.

We're not going to know much without knowing what's wired into it. Is it tied into the bell circuit? Stab in the dark it's for a remote booster. Say your main panel only has enough oomph to drive two floors worth of strobes and horns. You're at the limit for your wire runs and the draw from the panel but you've got a third floor that needs notification devices too. You install a remote booster so you've got power closer to that third floor and run that floor's notification circuits from it. A wire from the main panel goes to booster so, when the main panel is in alarm, the bells and whistles from the booster panel go off too.Just my guess anyway.

Hey guys thinking of building my next bed. Last one I bought wasn't that sturdy on mattress support and was low to the ground. Very few support slats even for one that used a box spring and they bent a lot over the years even though I'm far from a large person. Partly blame the memory foam of the time though it sank, couldnt be rotated, and while initially a comfy sleep it being a marshmallow is about useless for doing anything else. Planned to make something taller, with storage under it, and maybe some additions for fun because well things get fun weird. The question is do I just grab some wood and make a frame like I have in mind. Or buy something like the pic to have a solid metal foundation and make a head/foot board with a wood rail connecting them for looks. Metal maybe would avoid the bowing with age and keep good support.I think design wise it would be similar, expect the under bed storage being a roller draw instead built in, but I mostly don't want it to rattle like some headboards do on those collapsible metal frames. I want to make this solid.
>>2972192I've never had much issue with each. Main problem I find these days is that wooden slats are really crap now, but the last few beds I've bought have been metal subframe with wood facias. If you want space, I'd go metal. I had to fix some cheap slats on a bed once for a fatass so I just stripped them all out and used 2x4s instead, they worked fine. That frame you're looking at looks a bit cheap though.

>>2972293One for every houseI don't live in an HOA and actually live in a rural area. So I don't even know that that's how it works in the suburbs desu. Other anons please advise
>>2972290I could, it would just be a bit of work. My grandfather built houses for a living and said he would help out on any tough projects. We were also thinking of taking down the wall partially between the two living rooms. I dont know why they have two living rooms in this house, its fucking retarded, especially with the bathrooms being as small as they are.
>>2972293It rains/snows during the winter. It's not going to kill the grass or anything. But yeah it's just dumb
>>2972295right sorry, these are the HOA controlled sprinklers on the 25ish feet between the road and the edges of "private" propertyI guess nothing else for it but to go for a stroll with some channel locks and a small prybar
>>2972298Crescent wrench works better so you can just set the span to fit the valve then focus all your force on turning it.
>>2972291Ignore it, then sue them when they burst. Make sure that your complaint is in writing and notarized first though.
>>2972296kek, didn't even notice that. now that I'm looking at it more, it really is a fucked layout.
>>2972282How attached are you to the paired closets in the hall?
>>2972282No direct entry from the kitchen to the living room is fucking weird. You're sure someone didn't close off an entryway there?
>>2972304It really is fucking retarded, I didn't realize it was this bad until I started living in it and had to walk through that mini hallway a million times a day. >>2972307I can get rid of them, I have a detached garage and a finished basement/crawlspace that I can use for storage. >>2972313Is there any way you would be able to tell without tearing out drywall?
>>2972316>Is there any way you would be able to tell without tearing out drywall?Use a stud finder and look for a header, maybe.
>>2972316here's my thought, that is a really fucked layout though. Good luck.
I'm OBSESSED with L-profiles.They are stackable, they are portable, they are easy to connect, they are strong and stiff enough if you like them thicc.I want to use L-profiles for the foundation, for the structure, for the facade, for the flooring, in my mind everything can be done with L-profiles. I'm going to buy a van just to pack it with L-profiles.I unironically lose my sanity thinking about them, and I think about them all the time.
>>2972282interior design is my passion
>>2972321Your post made me realize that the drawing isn't actually accurate. The closet closest to the living room actually goes all the way back. I do like the idea of turning the second living room into a dining space.>>2972337I also like your idea of converting the smaller bathroom into a ensuite, it would probably be a better use for both the bathroom and the room itself. My house is going to have more arches than McDonalds.
>>2972337why would you block the carport entry to the kitchen, given that the most common thing coming into the house after people is food?
12v outlet melting cheap ryobi plug, what do?my truck has a 12v cig lighter and an additional (much cleaner) 12v outlet. well the 12v outlet melted the cheap plastic on my ryobi charger? how do i (for free) source a new male 12v plug end for my charger? fuse in ryobi charger port is labeled>250v 6s8aalso i looked up yourube videos on how to clean my trucks ports and really couldnt find any. i sprayed with crc electrical contact cleaner but tissue on a stick nor scrapping it with a pokey seems to clean it. advuce? ...maybe new ones are cheap on rock auto....7.50 for a new cig lighter assembly on rock auto :p
>>2972358Check your car 12v port is rated for 8 amps or whatever the sticker on the charger says. Should be in your car.manual somewhere
Where in the FLYING FUCK do I find 100mm/10cm/4" wide self-amalgamating tape? Got a big roll off of ebay a few years ago, listing has now long expired, and I cant find anywhere that sells anything wider than 50mm. Not ebay, not MV/HV cable splicing suppliers, not even Alibaba/Taobao. I know it must exist, I literally have the remains of a roll (with no markings whatsoever, go figure). Tried 'amalgamating tape', 'splice tape', even 'splice mastic' (which tends to have an unwanted adhesive), with every variety of unit I can think of, but nothing.
>>2972401self fusing tape?mcmaster carr?
>>2972381charger pulls about 80 watts iirc.ill check the rating on the trucks port.
>>2968869I have a bunch of plum trees and they are fucking infested with fruit fly larvaes... what the fuck do I do with its fruits to avoid letting the flies grow? is there no natural treatment for this crap?from what I've been reading, I should have boiled them or something, but I did the most stupid, lazy thing and dug a hole and threw them there. I'll have to dig again and put them in bags, maybe?also, how do I prevent these trees from getting bigger/taller? I'll have to kill a bunch of them because they are starting to affect my neighbor. I fucking hate killing trees, but what options do I have?
What grit to polish stainless/chrome steel (picrel)?
Is this how loctite supposed to lok like? Have it for years and though it was well mixed, it's still runny after a day or two of being applied.
>>2972403They have a tiny rectangular patch, otherwise the same 50mm/2" limit as elsewhere.
>>2971890You'd better watch how you're talkingAnd where you're walkingOr you and your homies might fall through the floor
>>2972478I'm the kind of G that little diyers wanna be likeOn my knees in the nightFixing shit the previous owners fucked up
>>2972444this is why u should just get your fruit from the super market. youre a bad neighbor.
>>2972444Dunno about the flies. You can try pollarding the trees. Better than killing them. Look up how to do it online or find a book on fruit tree cultivation.
>>2972444I also need to prevent the trees/fruits from being infested in the future. so, please, any advice is welcome.>>2972518>this is why u should just get your fruit from the super marketit's not my fault, and I don't keep the trees for its fruits.these trees have been in my moms family house for decades. her and her retarded family let them grow to the point of having the roots trespass property lines and even break the wall. now I'm in charge of the property and will have to fix lots of shit.how about you contribute instead of assuming shit and talking shit?>You can try pollarding the trees. Better than killing thema couple of other trees are located in the most inconvenient places. the layout of construction is the most retarded thing ever, so I'll have to kill the largest trees, but there are many smaller plum trees to replace them.
so i have this powerbank with a dead input slot. someone previously had it jerry-rigged to a solar panel, and i want to get it hooked up to solar again.pic 1/5
i reconnected the wires to the input slot and bought the appropriate input charger cable and it did not snuggly fit in the input slot and it did not charge(pic 2/5)
so i reconnected it back to the way the previous owner had it jimmy rigged to work directly off solar(pic 3/5)>colored lines drawn for clarity, hope they help and not make it worse.
these are the panels i have available:pic 4/5
2nd panel available:(pic 5/5)
3rd panel available
4th panel available.which panel would be appropriate? which panel would put the lightest load on the powerbank? apprently it may also have a cooling fan that doesnt operate, so light load would probably be bestdevice is a BLUETTI EB240 powerbankjfc each post has taken like 10min each cuase of connection errors + captchas, jfc
so my question is which of these panels are safe to wire into?>all the panels have pretty thick neg and pos wires dangling off them. and should i also add a fuse between powerbank wires and panel wires?
>>2972540Use a multimeter You don't have to use the slot itself. You could splice the wires if you know for a fact they are live. Hide them away for now if budget is an issueIf budget is not an issue, get a solar controller and use it for your power
This ain’t a question I just want to vent about my 5.0 302. Engineers and environmentalists are all idiots. Last year my throttle body was dunked up with carbon. Had to replace the IAC valve at the same time. The truck is 36 years old and the original owner did bare minimal maintenance. Last week I was getting sputtering at idle, took a wild guess and the Air Charge Temp Sensor inside the intake was covered in oily carbon. Looking inside its port I can see that the entire intake is covered in carbon. I’m going to remove the upper intake, take out the fuel rail and injectors, bench test or replace the injectors, disconnect everything else and remove the lower intake plenum. I was clean the throttle body with appropriate cleaner while it is off. The lower intake I was soak in diesel and use a wire brush to clean. If the valley below the lower intake take is carbines up I will set the truck on fire and roll it down a hill. Once all these components are cleaned/upgraded I will reassemble. However, I will be adding an oil catch can to the PCV line going back into the intake airstream as well as an additional oil catch can going into the EGR balance. Fuck you ford. Fuck you engineers. You made a decent motor then you designed it to hose down my beautiful intake with all kinds of nasty oil and exhaust gases. In attempts to clean the engine with fuel additives you end up making the problem worse because anything deeper in the valves gets aerosolized and sent back into the intake. Now I have to DIY myself some scaffolding so that I can lay across my engine bay and do all this fuckery. Exhaust gas recirc was a mistake and the people responsible should be punished
>>2972454are you trying to scratch it all so it looks like stainless?
>>2972584No, I'm trying to polish it so it no longer looks scratched as it is now. What I can say is 5000 grit just won't cut it. So, if anyone has done it successfully, I'd appreciate the help. Also for stainless steel (18/10, as in kitchen pots/etc.).
>>2972622not gonna happen
>>2972623?
>>2972626 you're not going to polish plated chrome to original finish, there isn't a way. you can sand off all the coating and put on a new oneso"not gonna happen"you're better off aggressively sanding it all and pretending it's stainless steel.
>>2972627although, instead of being an asshole...grohe has a lifetime warranty on the finish of their fixtures, so if you call them and tell them it is "TARNISHED" and not scratched they'll send you a new faucet
>>2972628Not my house, not my purchase; will just leave it as it is, then...
>>2972628>>2972631Though that part (handle+cover) is sold separately (part 46697000), so that'd all id6 need.
>>2972632do a lol price check
>>2972635Yesh, no...Local page doesn't even bother listing price; on UK's page it's 26£.On some German site it's 12,31€... plus 14,95€ s&h.Fuckem, not going to bother.Maybe off AliExpress lol
>>2972627What about (scratched) polished 18/10 steel. Scotch brite should be fucking sued for outrageously misleading advertisement (picrel had a brushed band on polished steel; no way i could restore that).
>>2972641I used literal steel wool to get shit off the bottom of my pans and they still look great. WTF kind of Chinese stainless steel are you dealing with that a fucking Scotch-Brite pad fucked it up?
>>2972651>ChineseIt's 18/10 steel>GreatYeah, i seriously doubt, a: they're still polished as new; b: they ever were actually polished.Btw, my old "chinese" IMCO pots (lol literally US made 18/10 steel) are just the same.
>>2972656Congrats bro. You can said the exact same thing as in your previous post without answering the god damn question. 10/18 Is just a measure of the ratio of chromium (18%) and nickel (10%) in the mix. It is SAE 304 stainless steel if you want to use a non-retarded term for it. It is no indication of the actual quality of the steel though.Who made it? Where was made? Where did you buy it? You can buy dogshit from China that has 10/18 stamped on it. You can get shit off of a website that claims to be from a certain manufacturer. You can even find stuff that says it was made in the USA. When you get shit off of Amazon or other online retailers there is a high probability that it is fucking fake. Even if that shit is 304 stainless you have know way of knowing that it was actually manufactured properly when you just say its "18/10".Are the materials they used to make the steel of reasonable purity? Probably not. Did they have any form of quality control? Nah. You know how I know? 'Cause a fucking Scotch-Brite pad wouldn't fuck up the finish otherwise. Also, where did you get those sponges? 3M's 'delicate' line is pink and I haven't seen a rectangular sponge from them in decades. Is that intended for the European market or something?
>>2972356I thought there was an entry through the mud room. I prefer the entry into the living area because it's a better welcome than the kitchen, and the kitchen is right there so it's not big deal.
>>2972664>Is that intended for the European market or something?Google translate says: Portuguese (Brazil)
>>2972641I don't fuck with scotch brite anymore. I used it to clean up a 75G fish tank I was redoing and and after rinsing off it was scratched to hell and unrestorable.GLASS
I've been doing maintenance work in a waste management facility and almost puke every morning because of the smell and grossness of it all, is there any way to make it suck less?
I have bought 7 chairs in my life and i hated them all or the sponge didnt last, so i want to transform the last shitty one i got into a real one.Where do i even start with upholstery? what kind of foam should i buy? memory foam looks nice but i only can find 1cm thick rolls and i would lke something with more padding.
>>2972454>grit, singularThat's not how polishing out scratches works. You start with a low grit, then work up through the grits. There isn't some magical fine super grit that will substitute for the work required.
>>2972767yes but nored rouge on a big stiff muslin wheel at 15k fpm rim speed and shitloads of horsepower will literally buff out a multitude of sins
>>2972685yeah that makes sense I guess.
I am confusion.Half of my pipes froze, or seem to have frozen. We don't have any heat venting into the crawlspace and it's insulated like shit. I left everything on drip (and I'm kind of assuming my partner left the shower taps off after using them after me). I lost cold water to the bathroom sink but not hot water or the shower taps, and the toilet cistern doesn't want to fill. On the other side of the house, the kitchen sink runs fine.I've been running space heaters into the bathroom pipe access hatch and in the crawlspace itself since morning and no change. Is there something that could've broken beyond just frozen pipes? I see no evidence of burst pipes or leaking.
>>2972786The cold water supply to your bathroom froze. Happens to me pretty frequent because the cold runs along the wall. You just have to find where it's frozen. Probably at an elbow.
>>2972790Thanks anon.Everything's more or less clustered below it; I can trace the pipe to the cistern up from where I have the lower heater to the upper one. I assume then that I just need to keep hitting the whole area with heat until the blocked spot thaws? The hot water to the shower is also frozen. This did happen last year as well, and a space heater in the area cleared things up somewhat quickly.
>>2972786>my partnerYour pipes probably have aids.
>>2972794Wrong kind of pipes.
I always get to these threads when they're about to hit bump limit, fuck.Anyways, where would a whole house filter be installed in this whole mess? I know the one on the far right with the gauge is for the sprinklers, but where exactly would the filter be spliced in?
>>2972760Maybe you'll get used to it eventually? I used to live in a town with a paper mill and was nose blind to it within a month. Obviously it's not as severe as being inside a shit factory, but whenever people would visit me they'd be totally grossed out by a smell I didn't even notice anymore.
>>2972786You need to find wherever the main water pipe comes into your house from the street. If you get a space heater on that it should unfreeze within a half hour.
>>2972806It's not on the street. He's got water everywhere but the bathroom. Odds are the pipes are frozen between the walls. Really nothing he's going to be able to do with it but wait.
>>2972664>Has China living rent free in is head.Retard thinks China was a thing decades ago....All of it was made by people longer in the business than you've been around, I'd bet.>Muh spongesMust be chink too, obviously...>>2972733>Paging retard above Oh, look; China strikes again...>>2972767Yeah, sure; obviously (?) meant for finalizingGot 10k, 20k paper, and 30k paste, but used 5k on some Formica counter and it was too much. Not sure if that can happen with ss or chrome, so just looking for some reference point.
>>2972800What kind of filter, does that extend through the wall into a garage or just go straight down into the slab?looking at it I'd just redo ALL the copper pretty much, alternatively you could bust open the wall in the garage and just cut out a small section for a loop.
Does anyone know of any websites that have architechtural plan resources? I want to build a cabin or even geodesic dome on my property, but all the resources I can find are $500 priced glamping airbnb stuff.
New thread, this one's close to bump limit>>2972907
