do you wear your nice shitters to work? I know lawyers or bankers can wear whatever they want. however, as an engineer in the manufacturing field, I deal with cheap ass customers all the time, wearing luxury pieces is a taboo because it might give them an impression that we are overcharging them, my boss would never wear anything costs more than an apple watch ultra to office.

you can throw the older non bluetooth/solar movement in the metal case kits too, the face is cleaner. there's a case for them being better, since the bluetooth doesn't do much and the solar bricks the watch when the charging circuit dies vs having to change a battery every few years.

Because I'm drunk. Buy your grails...don't have a 'watch journey'. Just save up and buy your grails, and you'll be happiest, longest, without wasting money. Buy for yourself and no one else.

>>18084958
I wear an 1861 Speedmaster Hesalite when I'm doing random shit...it's my 'shitter', if you want to call it that. No one recognizes it for what it is, and if they do, it's not considered valuable enough to chop off my hand. If you're in manufacturing, wear a G-shock...it's what you'll need anyway. Wear cool stuff when you're with your friends.

>>18086690
People notice I wear two watches, but that's the extent...they don't know/recognize the brand. Life is short...wear what you love, and to hell with the rest.

The only reason to avoid flashing wealth is if you are walking in a bad part of town. Or London UK, of course...

>pic related: no one knows what this is, nor do they think it's expensive. A shitter mall-watch.

I came up with that conclusion too, I think everyone does. But the distractions along the way are countless. It's like satan trying to steer you away from happiness in a way.
I am saving up for my grail and I actually think I could do it by the end of the year.
It's a good advice that every new person in the hobby should follow. I ended up with 11 watches and I only wear 3. I sold 2, gifted 2 and plan to gift the rest except for 4.

Hopefully they do come to that conclusion. The thing I despise the most is watch dealers advertising a 'watch journey' and using that term as if it justifies purchase mistakes. It's bullshit...it just encourages people to spend more money on things they haven't thought about carefully enough. I agree that there are distractions...but it's always possible to distance oneself from that to recognize it for what it is and not act on it.

I wish you luck on your grail goal, CredorChad. Save hard, work hard, play hard, and buy what you love. I won't ask you to tell me what it is...in fact, I'm actually looking forward to the shock/surprise of seeing it 'randomly appear' one day on these threads.

Stay in good health!

Sorry for the late reply. Just finished the classes.
First, I completely agree with you on the "watch journey" thing and sadly, I fell into that trap myself. They know how to market stuff, makes sense because these products and companies have been around for centuries. They know what we want to hear to make us feel better about, essentially, buying something that we don't 100% want.
I came to this realization when I got my two "higher"-end pieces, in this case, the GS and Tudor. I noticed that, I was only wearing these two 80% of the time and the other 20% I was wearing my Credor Dresswatch during the Weekends. (Absolutely love the polish on that one).
Which got me thinking, I only wear three out of my 11(!) watches and whenever I Do wear one of the fillers in my collection, I can't stop thinking to myself-
>"I should've worn the Tudor/GS/Credor".
I assume you feel/felt the same with your pieces as well.
I've sold 2 watches so far (king seiko vintage, seiko prospex) and gifted another 2. The Nomos I gave to my older brother, and another filler seiko that I had I gifted it to my childhood friend.
From my beaters, I will either keep the red presage or my baby alpinist.

About my (obtainable) grail, I was thinking of the blue Eichi II but it's just too expensive and I will never wear it, it will sit in my vault forever.
I guess I can at least tell you how much it costs. It ranges from 25K to 30K
Which is still a lot but it's half as much as what the Credor would cost.
Hopefully I can get it until the end of the year.
Thank you again for youe detailed response, I hope your week started off great.

>I can't stop thinking to myself-
>>"I should've worn the Tudor/GS/Credor".
I have the same feeling ever since i got my favorite watch, it's like i'm betraying it if i'm not wearing it. Plus it's a pure auto with no hand winding, so i really don't want to let it run out of juice, and the accuracy suffers as well until it's properly wound up, which takes a few days of wear. Once it's wound up it keeps great time though.

I hope the classes are going well!

Don't worry about falling into the trap of the watch journey; at least you didn't spend lots on the other pieces. So many YouTubers encourage the 'journey': 'Don't buy this until you've bought a less-expensive inferior version of it so you know you'll like the more expensive version'. The pretense is that the advisor is trying to 'save you money', but in fact they're encouraging you to do the opposite. It's a beautifully crafted scheme which flies under the radar of so many people, and appeals to the test-drive + instant-gratification sentiment. I fell into it when I bought my Seagull 1963 Chrono. I wanted to know what it was like to own a manual-wind chronograph, to 'prepare' myself for the Omega Speedmaster. The watch is in great condition and runs well, but I never wear it. It sits in a drawer reminding me never to do that mistake again. So now I recommend to people getting into the watch thing to do their research and aim for the most expensive watch they actually want. Be patient, and then get 1 watch that is awesome. If they want a second one, at least it won't be a proxy or a cope for the one they really wanted in the first place.

Regarding the Eichi - you're in a very safe country, so if you got one, you could wear it without too much fuss as long as you know where you will end up. In colder seasons, it'll be under a sleeve, so again, no worries. In western countries, no one knows what it is, so again, it won't be a target. I think you will be okay, so don't worry. Of course, if you do get it, you'll likely never wear your other watches again...lol

Good luck with everything, and I hope your week started well too.

I am fully satisfied, and am coasting down the river of contentment, wearing any one I want.

I do see beautiful new watches every now and then, but most of them are Omegas. I love their huge ultra-deep, and it fits well on my wrist, along with other pieces. In terms of vintage, there are always one or two that I think would be awesome to add, but ultimately I find that it would be difficult to find time to wear them to their fullest enjoyment. That's the real issue, actually: I have enough watches for variety of form and function, but not too many as to have trouble wearing them.

I have others in my social circle who are also into watches but are completely different in terms of their aesthetic preferences, so I have the pleasure of wearing something 'for a week' to see how I like it (and I lend them mine as well). But usually it just reminds me how much I miss the one I lent them....lol

The other day, I lent the Mark40 away. After a few days, I was missing it, which surprised the hell out of me since it's worn the least now. What I miss is the heavy complication with easy legibility, which you can't find in many others that do the same thing. All of my watches represent 'the best' at what they do in my eyes, so everything new that comes out just becomes a 'variation on a theme' but not superior. Does that make sense?
>>
>>18087890
>heavy complication with easy legibility

I can recommend it. The size and case shape are one of the better seikos. The bracelet is also better than the rest in the prospex lineup. The only problem I have is the movement. Seiko doesn't regulate them which means the gain (or lose) around a minute each day out of the factory. Make sure to regulate it after you buy it.
>>
>>18089032
how do i regulate it
>>
>>18089042
You need a few cheap tools if you want to do it yourself. Will cost you around 70$
Or you can immediately send it back and tell them to regulate it (under warranty) but be warned Seiko takes a long time. Maybe even a month and I've heard stories of watches coming back with scratched hands and cases after.
>>
>>18089042
>>18089048
There are plenty of videos on how to do it. You essentially only have to push two levers back or forth.

Gday.

I need a bit of inspo, I got this old Cornavin handwound thing, love it, it's the best, but the strap is old and worn so I wanna replace it.

I'll probably get another black leather strap, but I also want to have the option to put a bracelet on it, I just prefef bracelets in general.

I don't mind a milanese strap, but it isn't my favourite look. Is it possible to get a bracelet, no end links, and put it on a dress watch like this?
Any inspo or other similar watches on bracelets?

I don't like the design of any g shocks, even the CasiOak still looks too digital for my liking. Only 2 autos crapped out (one Seiko SKX779 that started running 15 mins fast per month after 5 years of this lifestyle and one Longines HydroConquest that completely stopped one morning and when I'd set the time it would run for a few hours and then stop again, with the time 10-20 minutes slower than when I had set it, this was after 4 years of use lmao)
I sold my Tissot Seastar 2000 pre-emptively. Can I get away with using a Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive diver or Tissot PRX Quartz with this lifestyle?
>>
>>18095744
The seiko still works then? Have you tried regulating it?
>>

Nah, I sold it for double what I paid for it to some NPC because at the time (5 years ago) I thought it needed to be serviced and I didn't wanna pay $2-300 to service a watch I paid $130 for. Sold the Longines too (for $1600 too, paid $2100), was able to fool the buyer into thinking it worked (I just set it immediately before I sold it, it would run a few hours before stopping again)

Funny, I was thinking about this exact problem the other day. My 105.012-66 has a flat caseback with only the hippocampus logo lightly etched on the back; it's supremely comfortable. The 3570.50 has the normal 'First Watch Worn...etc.' plus hippocampus medallion hard-cut into the back; I don't want to say I can 'feel it'...but I can definitely feel a difference if I switch from one watch to the other. The flat back is very comfortable compared to the etched one. Casebacks make a difference.

Similarly, on a hot day, a display back made of sapphire will feel like it's 'suffocating' the skin (my 0100 does this), whereas something like the Seamaster casebacks (which are ridged) help it to breathe and I don't notice a problem.
