i sunburn too easily for shorts unless i use tanning beds. here's the most comfortable long pants i've found for summer:

I think shorts can look good but only near the ocean or a pool and only if you’re fit. It helps if they’re shorter inseam. They can’t go below the knee.

But in general shorts look bad, I think. I think it’s better to wear pants. I’ve never had this issue where I’m too hot to wear jeans or chinos or whatever, but linen pants are generally the lightest and airiest pants.

Just make sure they suit your physique - slim fit if you have chicken legs, regular fit if you're in reasonable shape, relaxed/loose fit only if you've got muscular legs (big calves included). Choose an inseam that makes them sit slightly above the knee like in the OP pic.

You can go natural and wear linen or do poly trail pants from a company like ll bean or kühl. If they are advertised as spf 50+ then they're made for the heat.

It's true, unless you find a particularly good pair of chinos or you're attending an event where trousers are more acceptable than shorts (think something like a fairly formal lawn party, but even then shorts can be okay really), then you simply look like an autist who is afraid of shorts because of deep insecurities about their skinnyfat body.

Europoor vs Amerifat mind. I've come to find many arguments on this shit board come from simple geographical and cultural differences. Wearing shorts in most of Europe, even in the summer, makes you look like a strange manchild. Wearing pants in the US in the summer makes you look like either an office wagie or an insecure autist.
