>>18093414The Fragance Flowchart for Beginners
>>18093535Needs updating, some of the perfumes here are unfortunately goners like Bulgari Black. That being said, is there any sensible replacement for Black that isn’t hideously expensive?
>>18093537Yes, not to mention the unfortunate inclusion of incomplete perfumes like Tom Ford's Ombre Leather
>>18093520i need a blazer in that colour
Now that the phenomenal dust has settled, what do we think of this one? I kinda like it

>>18093513those are the craziest eye bags I've ever seen on a man under 80
>>18093511isn't this too generic?
>>18093537I would unironically just move Ombre Leather into its place. It's the most widely available and popular example of this nuleather style Tom Ford made trendy.
>>18093511Yes I need something that isn't complete slop
>>18093518Jeremy in two years

>>18093559no it's not black was great ombre leather is mediocre
>>18093590what's a better pick to represent modern style leathers to a newbie then?
>>18093604bvlgari black lolif it the chart were unfortunate enough to have a t*m f*rd as one of the starting ten then at least make it tuscan leather
>>18093609bvlgvri blvck has been discontinued for years

Why does everyone in the fragcom hate pic related? Are they bad quality? Overly priced? Or is it just cause they make weird novelty scents?
>>18093492What tool/website is this?
>>18093614>everyone in the fragcom hate pic relatedI'm John Everyone in the fragcom and I don't hate pic related
>>18093535Am I missing it, or does this chart not have blue fragrances? Given how popular Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel are, it would make since to include those types.
>>18093618thankfuly it doesn't because the people responsible for the first ten and the rest of the chart know their stuff and they didn't include slopalso it's meant to be an introduction into the world of perfumery and not a top 10 sephora sales
>>18093619If the chart is for beginners it should probably include a division on Blue fragrances. It shouldn't be about telling them what to purchase but rather helping them understand what the different types of fragrances are. A beginner's point of reference is very likely to be a Blue Fragrance. If they start understanding the notes in those and what is similar and what is different they can figure out what they are smelling and what they like rather than just having the base qualitative opinion of "mmm.... I like that cologne."
>>18093615https://www.idealo.fr/https://www.idealo.de/
>>18093537>>18093604Fahrenheit
>>18093633I guess the chart just assumes that everyone already knows what blue fragrances and aquatics smell like
>>18093636Is Farenheit a meme fragrance? I see it referenced here a lot. How strong is the leather smell in it? What other notes does it have?
>>18093639>What other notes does it have?most prominently violet leaf (ozonic, like cold cucumber) and florals. and an infamous "gasoline" accord that some can smell more than others (this is probably where the name comes from)it's a famous late 80s classic that some would consider old school at this point, but a unique fragrance that was supposedly created partially by accident (a bunch of unused perfume prototypes at Dior mixed together in the waste bucket gave off this weird gasoline violet leather combo and they decided to base a fragrance off that)
>>18093645I'm looking for a leather fragrance, but I'm trying to stay away from Tom Ford because I tried the Ombre Leather Parfum and while it smelled amazing at first, it very quickly faded to just a leather scent. Are there any other leather fragrances that are good to look into? I liked the strength level of the leather in the Tom Ford Ombre Leather Parfum. So I don't really want anything too much stronger in the leather note than that.
>>18093633Maybe you should read the chart. The 10 fragrances in the middle are taken from the article "The Top Ten Male Designer Fragrances Every Beginner Should Sample" by Claire Vukcevic, every other fragrance is a follow-up from there. That's the purpose of the chart, not to give beginners an overview of every type of fragrance.
>>18093653Antaeus
>>18093614I believe more than anything it’s that their performance is shit. Abysmal longevity and sillage across the board. The scents are interesting, and some are probably even good, but they hardly qualify as fragrance when they fade faster than an aftershave.
>>18093653>So I don't really want anything too much stronger in the leather note than that.it's hard to find anything much more leathery than that. there are actually many different ways to make a leather accord and Fahrenheit doesn't really smell anything like the car seat type leather of OmbreI also liked Ombre but wanted something not as one-sidedly leathery with more going on. ended up getting Dior Homme Parfum instead and I'm happy with it.
>>18093653Fahrenheit and AdP Leather are the best leather fragrances I have tried, but generally I dislike leather fragrances.

Hey guys, I've been using pic related as a deodorant for about 8 months now because it's cheap and smells good.About a month ago I seeming started reacting bad to it (itchy/very inflamed pits), I got new sticks because I thought it might just be the particular stick I was using at the time but I'm still reacting bad to it now.Why would I start reacting bad to this when I've been using it fine previously for 7 months prior? has anything like this happened to anyone else here?Very baffling, looks like I'm gonna have to find something else.

What do people mean when they say a fragrance is modern? Is it just a question of timer period when it was introduced? Or does it refer to a difference in scent or style?

>>18094191I associate warm spicy with like christmas holiday spicy, so maybe sweeter kind of spicy. Fresh spicy I would associate with it being a bit brighter. It might even be felt in the sinuses. Soft spicy I just view as a very mild and not-leading spicy.

Does anyone have some examples of scents that they love but would NOT want to smell them in a place or on someone? As an example, people will say I'd love this scent as a candle in my bedroom/bathroom but not on someone. Likewise, there are perfumes people wear that you would never want to smell in a place. Curious on any opinions
>>18094350I feel like a lot of scents wouldn't be good in candle form. A lot of scents would be too strong to permeate a whole room.
Bros, I need a loud but non-obnoxious fragrance, preferably modern. Is coral fantasy what I'm looking for?
sup /fa/rn I'm sniffing on Mousse Iluminee, I just got my decant of it. It's bretty good as a green note booster if the soapiness is cool. I like the cypress more than I thought I would.
>>18094350gunpowder by itself(I know it's a note), cocaine(I know it's a note), plastic-y smelling packages from china. You know the ones
Do you think fragrance houses should name the nose behind their scents? Most do, but you have to go looking for it most of the time. They don’t need to print it on the bottle or anything, but i think it would be cool if they at least put it on the box. I like buying fragrances from specific perfumers I like, and I would automatically gravitate toward fragrances in the store if I knew who the perfumer was
>>18094398the good ones do, and the ones that don’t basically universally suck, so it doesn’t matter
>>18094381No. Sausage elixir is what you want
>>18094386I like the idea of gunpowder as a note, but I’ve never actually smelled a fragrance with that note that actually smelled like it. I was really hoping to love Bapteme de Feu because I’ve always like Serge Lutens, but it didn’t really smell like gunpowder when I sampled it. Cocaine is also an interesting smell, but I don’t know if I actually like the smell of it or just associate it with being on cocaine, which feels pretty darned good to be perfectly honest with you anonymoose. I don’t know if I would like the smell if it wasn’t connected to the high, but there’s no way to test that hypothesis. But I’d wear a gunpowder fragrance if I actually found a good one. Just seems very punk rock.
>>18094404For the gunpowder, Iron Duke is thrown around here once in awhile as a recommendation for it. As far as the coke smell, it's Tuscan Leather. There's a reasonably decent clone of TL called La Yuqawam Homme Rasasi)I'm always looking for more of these as well, but those are the go-tos

how do i test if a perfume is right for me, besides for just spraying it on my wrist and smelling it? we have like 10 perfumes at home and most of them werent even opened lol

>>18094779The Jew fears the basement perfumer.
>>18094794You can spray it on a note card to get a good idea of how it smells, but they will smell differently on skin and differently on each person's skin sometimes. I would find some note cards or something else to spray the perfume on. Then smell each back and forth and try to pick out your favorite 2 or at most say 4 of the ones you have. After you have picked your favorites, I would spray a couple sprays of each perfume on different parts of your body. I would recommend the back of the hand and the inside of the elbow. That will give you 4 spots on your body that are separated enough but also easy to access with your nose. Then smell them and compare them periodically throughout the day. A fragrance will smell different when it is first applied to how it smells 2 hours after spraying. How it smells a bit of time after application is referred to as how it smells in the dry down.
>>18094794Obviously you can just spray it on your wrist but you'll need to give it some time before deciding because the opening doesn't mean shit. Probably wouldn't hurt to get an opinion from one of your relatives too. You'd probably be better served by going to Macy's or Dillards and trying some designer fragrances though.

>>18094874i lol'dthank you, based /fag/got
>>18094896yes. we are in the eternal flanker era. Armani will keep releasing Code and ADG flankers until the heat death of the universethe brand new La Nuit flanker will be getting hyped and discontinued within minutes on neo-hyper-tiktokExtra-Male Purest Concentrate will include state of the art nanobot technology for an optimal half-kilometre sillage radius and two month longevity
I gotta tell ya /frag/ I always manage to amaze myself with some of the -wrong- assumptions I make. Back when I first got into this I was mispronouncing “Eau” as “You” (it’s “Ooh” for anyone else out there like me). And just now I’ve learned that Coeur means “heart” not leather. I’ve encountered so many leather frags with Coeur in the name I just assumed that must be what it meant. It is not. Heart of the Desert, Heart of Black, etc. etc.
>>18094921leather is cuir, so you were close
>when the top note is bergamot
>>18094929Ahhhh, right! Thank you kind Anon, good to realize it was based in some level of logic.

>>18094957
>>18094920I don’t really give a fuck about Armani because they’ve never really been good, but the state of YSL is sickening because not only do they release flanker after flanker of Y and MYSLF, unironically the most uninspired new fragrance I’ve ever smelled from a notable brand, they’ve discontinued everything that doesn’t suck dick other than Kouros
>>18094956not today... 3-4 light sprays, perfectly appropriate for the office (at least noone complained so far).>>18094957based piss water enjoyer
also this is an old fragrance ad thread now
>>18094959Based. Smelled some boomer wearing it a few days ago. I actually have HR on right now but I just can’t get down with that airy sweetness. I keep smelling it though and have been getting whiffs of Guerlain Vetiver. Not sure if it’s my mind playing tricks on me or if there’s some of the DNA in there.

>>18094990I mean it very likely was. You just don't see things like that in ad campaigns anymore. And I'm assuming that ad is only 30 or 40 years old. We live in age where seemingly every ad campaign is filled with quirky humor, sarcasm, and other reddit-tier sensibilities.

Wait, why do people hate this exactly? It smells pretty good. Kind of weird to market it as a Habit Rouge flanker, but that sweet leathery facet is there. This is a good little casual summer scent that's not just generic and soapy. Kind of comes across like a less sickly sweet/synthetic smelling Dunhill Desire in the opening. I'd wear this to work. It also seems to be the only Guerlain you can pick up for less than a hundred dollars since LVMH took over.
Has anyone ever used scentsplit to try samples?
>>18095056ye
>>18095053got weed in it. Guerlain boomers fear the dankies.
>>18094796>but looking at your pic there's nothing worth wearing or even testingwhat? they all smell like perfume to meive been using the styletto on and off>>18094808thanks for the advice>>18094824hey i bet the "ENERGY CEO" perfume isnt so bad haha>>18094833is that good? we had these for many years
>>18095053How does it differ from the EDT? I recently smelled that and thought it was nice but not great. The sweetness in it was a bit too candied for me. But I liked the floral notes and the way they blended with the other notes.
>>18095082From the Habit Rouge EDT? Pretty significantly. There's definitely some resemblance if you know what you're looking for, but if they had marketed this as it's own release and not a Habit Rouge flanker, I might not even have connected the two. The most prominent note in the opening of the original for me is the lemon. This one substitutes that with bergamot and grapefruit. I also get a lot of rose and leather, which are both very prominent in the original, but I don't get the powdery thing that one does. There's no ambroxan listed, but I suspect it's in there. It's very sparkly. I do smell the cannabis, but I don't think most people would would recognize it if they didn't know it was a listed note. It blends with the patchouli to give it a bit of greenness. Mind you, I just got it in this afternoon and haven't tested it very thoroughly. I already had a fragrance on so that is bound to effect it slightly. I can give a more thorough report tomorrow
>>18095060not in a million years have i ever heard anyone complain or even mention that any guerlain has a marijuana note, ever.
>>18095098Probably because this is the only Guerlain fragrance with cannabis as a listed note. It would be weird if people said they didn't like Shalimar or Heritage because of all the weed in it.
>>18095102fucking bizarre, does anyone know what delphine jelk is trying to do?
>>18095071>they all smell like perfumeno shit sherlock, but they are dollarstore/pharmacy fragrances that are very low quality
>>18094685I actually like the line and Profondo and Profumo on themselves were good modernizations on the scent, but utter LMAO at all the pointless fiddling on the line after that.
>>18095098It's well established that there's a cannabis note in l'instinct
>>18095103Appeal to a younger crowd, it was a quite a thing for a while to have a (supposedly) shocking weed note in your perfume
>>18095103Appealing to the part of Venn diagram which overlaps with both>Habit Rouge enthusiastsand>dude weed lmao
>>18095103I would assume whatever the soulless corporate overlords at LVMH are commanding her to do. I assume the brief for this one was something like "let's take Habit Rouge and make it more like Bleu de Sauvage. Make it fresher and put something weird in it to appeal to the youths." And to her credit, I think she did a fairly good job of that. It's definitely modern, but doesn't come across as boring. The trouble is that it's too different from the original to appeal to Habit Rouge fans, and the Habit Rouge name isn't something zoomers are likely to care about. So it's just like... Who exactly is the for? It would probably have sold better if it was marketed as it's own thing. They also pivoted real quick when this one undersold. I haven't tried it yet, but they released Rouge Prive the following year and that one sounds like it's much more recognizable as a Habit Rouge flanker that's just touched to come across slightly more modern.
>>18095119real big niche if i’ve ever seen one
>>18095121maybe she should just stick to making mon guerlain and la petite robe noire flankers.

After getting estee lauder for men I can understand how that one anon went through it so quickly
>>18095143To be fair, the L'Homme one was basically just L'Homme Ideal Cologne in a different bottle. But I hear nothing but good things about Rouge Prive
>>18095092Thanks for the info anon. I'm always interested in hearing about new fragrances and currently looking for one that has some featheriness to iit.

Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme smells really good. His guerilla marketing is a bit of a pleb filter.
>>18095306What is Homme and why do so many fragrances talk about pouring it out in their name? Is this like a reference to something in Greek mythology? Were the Olympians eating ambrosia and pouring homme to smell good?
Has anyone tried Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Bergamote Calabria?
>>18095307holy fucking retard>>18095308the only aqua allegorias ever worth a damn are pampelune and herba fresca.
>>18095307Yes men had to pour homme on themselves in order to smell good. It originated in ancient mesopotamia. I think it is derived from plantsIt is a bit like a catchphrase for good luck “Pour homme!”
>>18095307It's actually pronounced "Ohm" (like the Hindu chant), and not "homie". It's French for "potato". The fragrances which use "homme" in their name (i.e. Dior Homme, La Nuit de l'Homme, Guerlain Homme, Versace Pour Homme) are all structured around potato as the primary accord.
>>18095308No. And not only in this thread, no one has ever smelled it. In the world. Not even Guerlain himself.
