Anyone here knowledgeable about combat boots used in the US army? What would be the combat boots version of a M-65 field jacket? Something that's the most generic/iconic version, preferably in black/leather. Maybe something worn in an iconic era like WWII or the Vietnam War. I tried googling it and I could only find the phrase Intermediate Cold/Wet Boot, pic related seems like a pretty popular style. Don't worry I don't plan on larping or going full blown stolen valor retard or anything. I just need to know more about these boots for research purposes.

Can someone recommend a boot that's comfy enough to walk in for 8 to 12 hours a day. I do a whole lot of walking at work, especially up and down hills and through brush. I currently have Danner mountain 600s which are great but I don't trust them to hold up to a snake bite if I happen to tread on one. And snake boots are super bulky, ugly, and uncomfortable and a little over the top for what I need.
>>18094954>I currently have Danner mountain 600s which are great but I don't trust them to hold up to a snake bite if I happen to tread on oneBut you would trust any other random boot that's not specifically made to deal with snake bites?

>>18095123classic overconditioningif the leather looks like a bloated rotting corpse and is cracking in less than a year it's kind of on you brocalm down with the product and use a brush instead
Conditioned my Viberg double butts for the first time yesterday. The more I wear them the more deeply weird they seem. The veg tan tends to show more of the little nicks and scrapes that happen to them than chrome tanned leathers which is cool. The stitching used for the stitchdown is also pretty thick compared to other pairs I've seen, but they still have Viberg's crazy SPI. The leather itself has extremely fine creasing and there's no rolling at all. Only on the right boot can you see a somewhat larger, more defined crease on the vamp. This cut of leather is usually used for belts and it definitely shows in the way it acts when stressed. The decision to fit these with the smaller eyelets and thus thinner laces is really strange considering how stiff the leather continues to be The boots just do not want to give which puts a lot of extra pressure on the laces. The copper eyelets had a couple of small burrs which ate through laces in no time flat. I had to sit down with a jeweler's loupe and needle file and go over every single eyelet to make sure everything was smoothed out and even then I've had to come back and re-file a couple where I missed a small edge or two. I've had to buy two extra pairs of laces to replace ones that have been destroyed. These bastards took some time to break in and after a few months of wearing them 2-3 days a week they still feel like they need more. I would not call them comfortable, long days in these can be brutal towards the end. Hopefully that will continue to change but we'll see.
>>18095155Considering I conditioned twice a year, I don’t think I over-conditioned the leather
>>18095164twice a year with cream on a new boot is overconditioning and the results speak for themselves

"I was able to share the images with our product team for review, and we understand your concern regarding the color variance between the two boots in your pair. While the color variation can seem like an imperfection, it is actually a natural variation of the leather. Leather is a natural material, and as the Indigo colorway of our Vanguard boots is a combination of an inky blue and black, the shades of either color may appear more apparent in some boots than in others, and will have variations, even across the same pair. Additionally, darker and lighter spots are part of what gives it life and dimension.Based on the images, this pair looks alright to us, and would fall under the 'near-perfect factory seconds' category that our items sold in our warehouse event would fall under. That does not mean shoes without it will have the heels failing. Manufacturers all have a certain ideology on how they make their product. Some make shoes that are hard to come off because they dont care about resoling, some make shoes a bit easier to be dismantled by a cobbler or anyone with a plier.Or maybe they cheap out on the nails, or the machine they use to shoot the nails dont give the best result, and having that piece of hard paper solve the above problem. But anyway you see this practice mainly on Italian shoes.

>>18094095Alright /fa/, I've just been promoted to pub manager for a large British chain and I need some good boots. They need to be smart and practical (good grip, water proof, reasonable hardy), which is a bit difficult to balance when I have to look like a professional while also chucking around barrels and shoving cunts out the door.Off the top of my head picrel is the only thing that comes to mind>lmao ThursdaybootsI know, I know, I've been lurking here for years. I remember the glued on soles and asymmetrical eyeholes, but they're the only brand that I know of off the top of my head.Anything I wear will get fucked anyway so my budget is around £300. Do anons know of anything that fits my bill for a similar price as Thursdays or should I just drop my money and find out how bad the meme really is?
>>18097609Avoid lacing over the bunion. Picrel is two different lacing styles that I use, obviously the trainer I just got lazy and it looks weird but trainers are trainers. The lacing on the oxford looks better but it depends on how the top of the shoe is designed (below the surface the lacing pattern is pretty much identical to what I've done on my trainer).

toe curl: let it happen or use shoe trees?is it bad?
>>18101515team let it happen and it looks neatit flattens out on foot anyways
>>18101515trees are nice to have, but personally, only the shoes and boots that are out of rotation for longer get them, so the leather doesn't sag under it's own weight with timei don't mind the toe curl on most of my boots, that i wear regularly, other than the iron ranger, which has trees in it at all timesthe fit is a bit better on broken-in boots that you don't constantly stretch back into shape with trees after every wearthe mositure wicking qualities of trees are overrated in my opinion and not using them isn't as bad for longevity as people claim, if you brush regularly and maintain the upperscreases in the vamp are going to happen no matter what just with wear and trees don't make them disappear or really prevent them to any significant extent
>>18101583>other than the iron ranger, which has trees in it at all timesGood call, Iron Rangers tend to develop massive creases. My old pair, for which I didn't use trees, creased so badly it chaffed the top of my foot.Excessive toe curl can make the fit feel like the boot shrunk about half a size.
>>18101515Don’t listen to these fools >>18101535>>18101583Get some goddamn shoe trees and stop being a cheap fuck. Toe curl makes you look homeless or worse, like some reddit patina thunderdome faggot.
if they needed trees theyd come with them
desiccant >> trees for moisture controltoe curl isn't bad unless you bought boots that are too small
dunno if this is the appropriate thread to ask in, but here goesi'm moving to Japan in a couple of months, and I'm the market for good quality and durable shoes for everyday urban (perhaps even mountain) walkingany good brand/guides i should look into?thanks in advance
>>18098851What are these boots please I’m desperate
>>18101781Fuck off, you stupid faggot. Go look for some generic photo, and for some random black boot #68393929 yourself.
>>18101634My personal recommendation is anything with a leather footbed, leather midsole and Vibram outsole. Try buying some Steinkoglers, with a nice pair of dense wool socks. I would not recommend leather soles, unless you are traveling via car or public transport often. Do not buy some overpriced shit brand like Danner, or most of the other brands recommended and posted here. Even simple semi-‘barefoot’ shoes like Converse 70s will be rather comfortable, especially when climbing a lot of steps in Japan. Ortholite insoles will also help to prevent foot pain.

All these boots ..look very BAD for the human foot.
>>18103479What is stopping them from using grain leather for the lining? That is split suede.
Is there any practical benefit to getting a boot with stitchdown construction instead of goodyear welt construction?
>>18103720theoretically its more waterproof, but seems kinda moot when 90% of stitchdown boots are like 120 degree stitchdown at the front and the rest naildown. Also most shit cobblers will turn the flared out upper into swiss cheese, so a resole from a skilled cobbler might be more expensive.
>>18103707nothing stopping them, probably just a lame cost saving measurefeels like my nigs use grain leather but they also use lasting machines and don't mckay stitch anymore and skimp on the height of the tongue gusset so when you're laced up fully there's a gap between the top eyelets because the tongue doesn't go up high enough
>>18103720it's significantly cheaper and faster to produce, less materials, less processing steps than goodyear weltin practice you don't get to enjoy the benefit of a cheaper boot, because the manufacturers and influencers paid by them would have you believe "it's just as premium"the "it's more water resistant" is the biggest marketing cope that they ever came up with as an excuse as to why a $600+ boot would use one of the cheapest resolable contruction methods (only beaten by blake stitch)having the vamp be the main structural piece holding the boot together means the boot is less resolable and the vamp doesn't keep it's shape as wellmost nicks boots that are actually used as work boots are not in a state where they can restitch through the flred uppers, because they are so damaged and they need a full recraft, realistically most of these boots go straight in the trash and people just get new ones
