Look what's back in stock.First impressions are very good. Folks compare it to Quorum, and I can tell why, but it is very much it's own thing. Much more clean and soapy compared to Quorum's kinda dry tobacco-ness. Kinda reminds me of Dunhill 1934 a little bit too, in certain ways.

Anyone try the new Guerlain Les Legendaires formulations? I got samples of them because I read that they were decent compared to the last formulation but all I’m getting from the Mitsouko EDP is straight peach. Is it supposed to smell like this? I expected more greenness. LHB was also just a powdery violet iris. It’s funny because the old guerlains were the first perfumes I’d ever tried back in 2020 at the beginning of my journey and I remember them being really offensive and old ladylike to me (especially jicky), but now they’re just safe and kind of disappointing. Maybe the samples i got back in 2020 from surrender to chance were rancid or my nose has changed or maybe the new formulations suck. I’ll have to try the newest Jicky.
>>18105640It’s so bitter I couldnt eat when I had it on without getting grossed out. I gave it to my dad or threw it away. I don’t get the comparisons to Paco at all which is so sweet and warm.
>>18105725Also I hate how they’ve homogenized the bottle design but at least it’s the classic inverted heart bottle unlike the dogshit square bottle design for the men’s line
I've literally only ever gotten 3 compliments on fragrances. 1st was Bleu de Chanel by my SO. second was spicebomb night vision EDP from a co worker, and the third was creed GIT from an inmate at the county jail that I was passing by.

>>18105842mitsouko has never been a fragrance that opens up immediately. let it develop on skin. the EDT is a bit heavy handed on the florals, which is ironic because the result is a much lighter perfume that seems a lot less unisex

>>18104123>Exactly what the other poster meanti disagree>the people on Parfumo often add notes based on what they think they smellvery much incorrect. frags get added in the research tab, you need to put in all the details with sources and screenshots of the sources, they then get checked by other members if everything is correct. at that point members from the research team will "cull" the notes to be in line wizh existing notes. e.g. "chimney smoke" becomes "smoke", "plastic bag" becomes "plastic", "priest robe" gets ignored all together. notes get generalized if they're extremely specific, usually the case with indie perfumers (and women). members can't just change the notes listed. any changes after it was added to the database need to be reviewed again etc. maybe you're confusing it with the scent direction (green, woody, oriental), they're based on user votes.>>18105640snice. although it doesn't remind me of either quorum or dunhill cologne for men. it's in the same dimension as prph, but i prefer the bogart. it's like i'm crawling through thicket in the woods with bitter herbs
>>18105898>i disagreeother poster here, that’s precisely what i meant. notes are a joke period, whether they’re from fragrantica, parfumo or manufacturers. bonus points if the brand is the type to take the piss with their notes, which is the case here.

Is antaeus similar to kouros really? I like my sample of kouros but don't want to buy a bottle in case I like antaeus more. The only problem has been that they only carry Chanel at one official store where I'm living
>>18106014they’re really not anything alike.
>>18105898Yeah, I think quorum, bogart, and dunhill must all share some chemical(s) that I'm picking up on pretty heavy. They're all very distinct from one another, but there's definitely something common, at least to my nose. I'm willing to bet that folks compare quorum and bogart because they are roughly the same era and in green bottles. Sell me on Mousse Iluminee, Roguebros. I already have a decant of Bon Monsieur and like itHow does MI compare? Are his others along these lines worth checking out? Targhee Forest? Fougere something?
>>18106048To be fair, he's been reviewing perfume for longer than anyone in this general has been alive, so I give him credit for that much. But you are correct in the assessment that his degree in biochemistry really means nothing in terms of rating fragrances. It's like asking Stephen Hawking if Empire Strikes back is the best Star Wars movie. I'd probably listen to what he had to say (and that's what no one did), but his opinion on the matter would be no more valid than anyone else's.

>>18106079To me, Bon Monsieur opens lightly sweet with a soapy cleanness then progresses to a clean green scent. Not exactly the same but kind of in the vein of Irish Spring brand scent. Mousse Illumínee opens as a gorgeous smoky green scent with a very faint grape hint underneath. It progresses into a kind of warm, embery moss scent, but maintains the smoky green / grapey scent. Suffice to say they’re very, very different, but I’m partial to the Mousse Illumínee. I’ve heard someone else say they didn’t like it because it smelled like “grape soda” but majority response tends to be positive. If you can source it, his full sample set is worth it imo, even if not every fragrance he makes is an absolute knock-out like MI or BM.
What should I layer with encre noire?
David Bowie's favorite fragrance, btw. Kind of weird. It smells great but if you held a gun to my head and told me to list 10 fragrances I thought David Bowie probably wore, this never would have made the list. Even knowing that he once said "any Guerlain" when asked what fragrances he liked to wear, I probably still would not have guessed Vetiver. Habit Rouge? Hundred percent. Shalimar? Two hundred percent. Vetiver? It just doesn't strike me as a Bowie scent. It's an interesting factoid though. I bet he probably had a strong scent memory attached to it. He only would have been around 12 when it was released. Maybe his dad or another male role model wore it and it was a nostalgic scent for him.

>>18106194how embarrassing
>>18106167>no, he wore silver mountain waterYou know it's possible to own more than one fragrance, right? And it's not like it was Guerlain claiming he wore it as part of some marketing gimmick, Iman said it was his favorite. Pretty sure she knows more about her husband's wardrobe than Owen Pallet. In that story they were in the midst of a heat wave, which is the optimal time to wear Silver Mountain Water. Nothing in Pallet's story suggests to me that it was his signature scent or anything like that. Will Butler, another member of Arcade Fire, had this to say when asked what Bowie smelled like. >It smelled like if an ancient pine forest had a massive forest fire -- but like, a month ago. So you get the new growth of the grass and the moisture, but still there's an undercurrent of pain. But also of smoke, so kind of like marshmallows...? It's powerful.Sounds exactly like how a pretentious hipster in an indie band would describe what Guerlain Vetiver smells like. You get a bit of the smoky greenness from the vetiver layered on top of the sweet vanilla/tonka guerlinade dry down. >>18106192Nah, believe it or not he's actually not wrong. If Creed had said Bowie wore SMW I'd write it off as yet another false claim from the brand, but it was a dude from Arcade Fire that said it in an interview somewhere.>We talked abut his smoking habit (he told me he'd quit a year before he had his heart attack). He was wearing Creed Silver Mountain Water cologne which is wonderful but too ostentatious for anyone but Bowie to ever get away with.I don't think he's lying. If he's the kind of person who thinks Silver Mountain Water of all things is too ostentatious for anyone but David Bowie to pull off, he's not the kind of person who would know what Silver Mountain Water was unless someone told him. It's one of the most boring fragrances ever made. Literally anyone could pull off Silver Mountain Water
>>18106107I have it, it's really great.

>>18106297>thank you florida schizokek, I was actually the one that started the discussion. >>18106293Nah, he was always partial to the house. He was once asked what fragrance he wears and he responded "any Guerlain". Although, to be fair, I have a feeling that you're correct on Vetiver. Not because it's an old man scent, I actually really like that one, but it's just something I can picture the older Neo-Classicist era Bowie wearing. I really can't see Ziggy Stardust smelling like vetiver.
>>18106372I bet he was a Mitsouko guy. He also used to wear Miss Dior (and also he was David fucking Bowie) so he wasn't opposed to genderbending fragrances. But Mitsouko is the one I'd pick out if I was Ziggy Stardust era Bowie's personal shopper. He looks like he might smell like peaches. Mostly cocaine, but also peaches.
>>18106370You can also try Cuir Beluga, it's in the same line of Guerlain perfumes and also vanilla. Spiritueuse Double Vanille was made by Jean-Paul Guerlain, the last familiy member to own the company, while Cuir Beluga was made by Olivier Polge, who is Chanel's perfumer. So both are Guerlain and both are vanilla, but their vanilla notes are quite different.

I would find 2 or 3 you like the smell of then test them by spraying them on your skin and see how they develop, then choose the one that you like most. The most important thing for any fragrance is that you really like the smell of it. You should feel nice when you are putting it on or catch a whiff of it later.

>>18107016Yeah, that's a pretty great price for three. There was a time not so long ago when paying more than $50 for a bottle of Vetiver or Habit Rouge in the Listerine bottles was unheard of. I wish I had the foresight to just stock up when it was still cheap, but such is life.
>>18107039LVMH is trying to restructure Guerlain as more of a luxury brand. For what it's worth, at least the classics are still affordable, if not as cheap as they were a few years back.
>>18107043If a brand could upgrade from mainstream to luxury in fragrances it would be Guerlain. Though I don't know if they have prominent fragrances that slot into that $400 a bottle space and be worth it.

Enough with perfume snobbery.Perfume does not have to be unknown, niche, rich or unique to be good. Sometimes a simple sl*t-me-out vanilla cheapie smells just as amazing, amongst other notes. "Basic" shouldn't have such a negative connotation, perfumes can be basic (i.e simplistic) and still be classics. YSL Opium? Basic vanilla, but still a classic. Same with Alien by Mugler, Good Girl, Fahrenheit Dior, CK One, etc. I might not really like wearing them, but they're still classics, and taste is subjective.Wear what you want - no one irl will care, and the probability that someone will tell you that your perfume smells "bad" or "cheap" is very low. Unless you overspray. Don't do that.
>>18106763Dior Homme sport (2021)

>>18107052>Though I don't know if they have prominent fragrances that slot into that $400 a bottle space and be worth it.Nah, they've got a line of overpriced bullshit (the L'Art and la matiere line), but the classics are remaining reasonably priced. Habit Rouge and Vetiver are more expensive than they were 10 years ago, but pretty much everything is more expensive than it was 10 years ago. Right now the retail prices are about on par with most reputable designer houses. But they're tightening up distribution to give it an air of exclusivity. There was a time when you could buy Guerlain fragrances at Walgreens in a lot of places. Now you pretty much have to go online or to upscale retailers like Saks or Neiman Marcus. Even Macy's and Sephora only carry the Aqua Allegoria line

>>18107138>Habit Rouge and Vetiver are more expensive than they were 10 years ago, but pretty much everything is more expensive than it was 10 years agoYeah that's why I don't feel that badly about that. With how much inflation we've had since pandemic prices had to rise. And fundamentally fragrances are a luxury product. He got shit for saying it, but Jeremy Fragrance was kind of right in saying you have a different experience when you wear something that costs a couple hundred dollars rather than something that costs $50. I don't really care about what people think of my fragrance, however I do plan on actually wearing it and not just smelling it for the sake of discovering a new scent

>>18107800>ambra aureaYeah I've been wanting to try some stuff from Profumum Roma, Francesca Bianchi as well.I guess I'm looking for a frag that feels natural, not in terms of notes but insofar as it blends seamlessly with the wearer instead of just sitting there as some kind of alien smell. Friendly reminder that over the course of 1 year, Dior Homme Sport 2022 is my most complimented fragrance of all time, even more so than sauvage was. Not sure what it is, and I’m not an expert by any means at all but women genuinely love this frag to the point of stopping me and telling me (that has never happened to me until DHS2022) Probably my personal favorite fresh fragrance of all time, cannot recc it enough for anyone that wants a unique freshie with actual depth that others enjoy.
