At some point we have to choose between a boring thread or a thread with avatarfags.
We have to accept that it's not the same and that it is more engaging, interesting and more inspiring having people in our community who we can follow in their watch journey.
How hype would it be if Finncel popped up with a new watch? Think about it.
OD getting that JLC reverso out of nowhere??? How is this NOT hype af?
Whoretadello aka /wt/? Every time he posts you don't know if he got a new watch or where he even is right now.
HamiltonChad? Bro... His long distance shots are out of this world.
Mort? He has every watch we could ever want and more.
And this is just scratching the surface.
The CatMoserChad-CMC for short. The cockwatch faggot too. The Germoid who might just be Bitteranon(???).
It's just very entertaining. It gives a certain one of a kind-character and feel and makes this thread extremely unique.
And we get to talk about watches directly THROUGH them, their objective experiences and analyse them in depth.
I love our All-stars and I hope they're doing well.

This is probably pasta, but uinronically yes.
I miss whoretadello and I wonder how he's life in Japan is. He did go a bit overboard with the white posting, but those times were golden.
I miss OmegaDrunk's essays on watches and his near incoherent merry drunk posts. I hope his glass never goes empty.
Even reversocel I miss. I hope he found peace and the attention he craved for in redit.
Even cockwatch. He was so uniquely schizo, he never failed to leave his mark on this thread.
Now we have a mostly desolate wasteland of just rambling and arguing about specs... I fear we lost our joy when we lost many of our most important avatarfriends.
>>
The saddest thing about these lame pasta is how they're ALWAYS posted immediately after a new thread is made.
It basically means there's an anon who spend 100% of his free time on /fa/.
>>
>>18231351
This brings to mind a recent occasion when I donned my Grand Seiko for a professional gathering, anticipating it would remain inconspicuous, much like my imaginary acquaintances residing within my computer assured me it would. Ironically, on that very first day, a colleague—someone with whom I had never been closer than two arm's lengths and with whom discussions of horology or "fashionable matters" had never graced our conversations—remarked, “Is that a Grand Seiko?” Remarkably, he even referenced "Zaratsu polish," a phrase I had assumed was exclusive to online discourse.

I felt compelled to clarify that it was merely a 9F model, but instead, I mumbled about acquiring it online before deftly shifting the topic. Meanwhile, you all have thoroughly deceived me, leaving me anxious that others may perceive me as either extravagantly reckless with my finances (which I indeed am) or, conversely, as unreasonably well-compensated (which I am not).

In summary, disregard the advice from /fa/ or /r/watches/, for it seems that I alone have ever ventured beyond the confines of my home.
>>
Why does this thread hate bittercel so much? He is unironically the best poster we have ever had. Here's my reasons:

bittercel is always brutally honest. He is like water, he will find a crack in your watch and pour in from there. He is the criticism we need. You never get that in watchuseek or reddit, you only get an echo chamber of “nice watch, wear it in good health, champ” bullshit. Not with bittercel, he does not care for your feelings which is why he will tell you the truth. Yes, your watch is too big for you, yes it’s a shitter, yes the lugs look like shit, yes the movement is crap. You, as a critically thinking individual, should embrace this.

We are all protected by anonymity here which is the point of this site. Avatarfags are pathetic going against this. Take reversocel for example; he couldn’t handle a bit of heat from bittercel and immediately fucked off to r/watches as soon as someone wasn’t sucking his cock over his shitters and pens lmfao.

Yes, bittercel may seem bitter at first, but he is the counter force to all this circle-jerking in here. He is harsh but fair. You hold the fact he never posts a watch against him, but that is merely him not taking a side. He is not a brain-dead fanboy to brands (other than Rolex, but Rolex is Rolex). This way he maintains his unbiased position.

And the best part of bittercel? He is always there for you, right here, in this thread.

Ok anons, it's me the guy looking for a field watch
I want one that's under 40mm, has 100m of WR so I can swim with it, solar/mech/auto, sapphire glass, and is around 300 EUR
Other than those in the pic I've also seen the Bulova military watch and the Momentum that someone here mentioned
Out of all of these, the only ones that satisfy all conditions are the Bertucci, which is ugly, and the Vaer, which has a black case and needs to be shipped from the US
Any other recommendations, or should I just go for one of those two? I wouldve liked an auto Hamilton, but it's way too expensive

You can also look at some of the Timex expedition solar from amazon.com.

Even with vat+shipping it's cheaper than buying here.

I'm also in the market for a field watch but will probably make do with something from Aliexpress.
>>
>>18231419
>>18231430
The timex is probably the cheapest reliable (aka not a luckydip reliability chinkwatch) one mentioned. IIRC it was popular amongst americans soldiers aka mercenaries sent to die for the jews when fighting arabs over the past 20+ years. Either that or a gshock.
I say if you're going quartz go solar quartz if you can. An ecodrive can last 15yrs before something needs attending to, just don't keep it in the dark for too long or it lessens its life.

do you plan on doing hard labor/camping/using tools/or banging it around the inside of an engine compartment with it? Mineral will serve you better. Sapphire is only really useful for shit where its gonna get scratched but not banged up. Mineral is better for almost any hard use application simply because of the shatter resistance when you knock it. Yeah it can get scratched but its a tool watch anon, use it like one. I would buy something else with sapphire if you want a field watch for fashion reasons and mineral is a deal breaker for you. You can find the garrison cheap in places like ebay for like 130 USD, and its got eco drive. its one kickass watch imo

You can instantly receive any watch in the world, from a regular production model to a one-of-a-kind piece like Alberto Santos-Dumont's personal Cartier, but only under the following conditions:
- you can never sell it
- you must wear it for at least two days every week
- upon receipt, you must drink 1L of water from the River Ganges and you may not receive any medical attention or treatment for the next month.

What do you do?

Truthfully, something like that one above, just without the red 24-hour markers. Rather simple, almost minimalistic, and also not $600. ebay shopping just makes me hate this hobby sometimes.

Realistically I'd use it maybe a couple times a year: I don't have a vest pocket and pulling out a pocket watch to tell the time would induce cringes within 3 miles of me.
>>
>>18232199
What you described is pretty much the quintessential 19th/ early 20th century pocket watch. Should be easy to find no matter your location.

Bid on this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/286031193025
It's a hunter style though, but the movement is kinda rare. You'll need a key for it but those are a few bucks for a set.
>>
>>18232163
I used to collect them but I moved to a horrible climate that ages anything good and rather than wreck any more I've long stopped.
That being said my grail watch would be a pocketwatch because the complications I'd want on it only really make sense on a pocketwatch and the size would be right.

>A. Lange & Söhne was one of the key suppliers of high-precision watches for the German military during World War II. The brand produced pilot watches (known as B-Uhren) and chronometers for the Luftwaffe (German Air Force). These watches were essential for navigation purposes.

>Laco (originally known as Lacher & Co) was another significant manufacturer of B-Uhren for the Luftwaffe during World War II. The company produced large, easy-to-read pilot watches that were worn by German aviators.

>Stowa (short for Walter Storz Watch Company) also produced B-Uhren for the German Luftwaffe. Like Laco and Lange, Stowa's watches were designed to be robust and highly legible, which were crucial for military use

>IWC, a Swiss brand, supplied watches to both the German and British militaries during World War II. The brand produced pilot watches, including the famous Mark series, which were used by various air forces, including the Luftwaffe. However, being a Swiss company, IWC was not directly aligned with the Nazi regime, but their products were utilized by the German military.

Do you like this specific generic model so much? Can you find chinkwatch of comparable design? If so it'd be much cheaper and both the tissot and the chinkshit are made in china anyway at the same level of quality.

If you're worried about scratches on the mineral glass you can easily buy little tempered glass crystals that fit over flat watch crystals, like the ones you can put on your phone screen but for watches. If that gets scratched to shit or cracks the actual watch crystal remains fine and the protector is cheap and easy to replace.
There's even some softer gel—like ones for vintage curved crystals.
I've used both to great effect.
Beats wearing down an old acrylic with polywatch or being annoyed with scratches on mineral glass.

>The second anything becomes even slightly hype every company jerks their dick all over it like it's ookie cookie and the last one to cum has to eat the cookie.
There's money to be made so everyone forgets everything immediately and goes for it. Watches are tricky business, they're made to last and once you get one or two you don't really need more, so the only way to sell more of them is through hype.

Doesn't look like a women's watch; some mens dress watches were pretty feminine before the early 00's. Yellow gold, diamonds (or other stones) and sub 38mm watches were simply the style from decades past. Possibly because men back then didn't need to be reminded how manly they were with their luxury watches.

Second, if you can't tell its fake what makes you think wearing it out and around town some other random person will immediately tell you're wearing a fake Omega? Even if they can tell its fake, so what? Do you think they'll come over and stick their entire hand into your rectum? If you like it and think its pretty, wear it. Its just jewelry. Does your dad get a little frown when he see's you're not wearing his gift he may have spent a lot of money on? Don't be bothered what you think the world might think of it, and certainly disregard any opinions on this here, 28 gauge wire certification enthusiasts forum.

You might be able to get away with just getting a nice jewelers screwdriver and case knife if you're only ever going to have casios like that, but the caseback press is nice to have.

So, So, So anyway, back in the like, uhhhh, 1450....1700's. Like back before electricity...there was this guy named uhh,,,Gustav...Gustav Fellipo Moser.....but everyone called him "Mort". So uh
uh
uh
Mort like, invented this type of watch? You know like, the way it looked? Or like, the way the gears inside worked? So like he was really important and so like, now.

So like, so like now they make new watches that are like the old watches he made, like Mort Moser made; and they're really important to the "watch world". Thats like, all of the people who like watches. Like all of the reddit pages and youtubes. So yeah like, this watch was made by Mort Moser, or I mean, uh, uh, it was made by his family? Like his famly still makes Mort's Moser watches - they have a lot of uh, heritage. You know? Like, like you're not going to get that kind of heritage from like, an apple watch or what ever...uh, I mean no offense.

So like, yea, thats why it was $15,000. Its really special, it was made by Mort Moser in the year 1354, and now they make these new ones that are like, just as good. Like the gears back then were better then now because they weren't made in China.

Well actually yea, well, yea its like 60% made in China but thats ok. Like have you ever been in a swiss watch factory? I haven't but theres a guy on youtube who has and HE said its fine because of hard it is to put the little gears together.

Yea so anyway his name was Mort Moser and like, this watch is really special. I mean your smart watch is cool, but like, this is a different level, you know?

so do casios have glass screens once you start looking at ones over 20 bucks? or do they all have plastic? I really like the designs, but I cant stand scratches on the screen.
>>
>>18234204
It goes on a model by model basis I think anon.

The DW-5600 in the post you quoted uses mineral glass and its quite nice to look at and definitely has a "glassy" reflection to it that looks really sharp and nice.

>oh fuck you mean I have to go outside and refill that insignificant drain in 30 seconds by having sunlight on my wrist?

5-6 hours once every month with the dial facing the sun if it's seiko with no radio.

5 minutes a day for casio Gshock. maybe 10 for the radio models.
