USAnons, redpill me on cowboy bootsAre they effay? I wanna get a pair and style them with some fine denim. What should I look for? Pants, shirts, belts etc...Im from eu so maybe the best selling brands dont ship here. Any advice is welcome
ropers anon...
I'm a /tip fag, I wear my boots with jeans, chinos, tweed, sport coats, etc. Buy a pair made in America or Mexico. MiUSA is pretty safe but there are a few Mexican brands that are still quality. For your first pair get something simple, minimal, clean cut, they're easier to style. If you do go for exotics, you have to buy different conditioners than you do for cow leather, so keep that in mind.Alot of people get hung up on wondering what the boots go with, trust me when I say they work with almost every level of formality except for really formal suits. Your trousers have to fit properly, make sure they've got enough room in the calf to fit over the shaft of the boot without the boot showing/printing as you move around. Sexxxcore doesn't work with cowboy boots.
>>18277130I feel like this trend will age like fedoras
>>18277130they can look cool and also make you taller, but they aren't actually comfortable for much walking around. they're designed for riding on horses, not walking.
>>18277130basic ropers look good and are practical
>>18277130First question is what is your total budget, how much are you are willing to spend on all of this?
>>18277175>>18277189>>18277195>>18277213>>18277215Thank you anons. Any brands you usually check out?Feel free to shill>>18277578I guess something around 200-300€?
>>18277759I mean, thats the budget for the boots only. I guess even something more pricy is fine as well but I cant spend thousands yknow
>>18277759If that is all you are going to spend then you are going to have to buy used. You can't get into a new pair of boots that are a high tier brand and made in Texas for that.
>>18277759You could probably find some mid-tier boots like Justin’s for that price I’m sure. Not going to be amazing but not chink polymer shit, they’re about Levi’s level in terms of quality and recognition for boots. Name brand, quality’s down from original but not dogshit, and you can find some decent pieces if you do some research. A good set with a squared or round toe will fit pretty much anything, points are for larpers and women. Don’t get too caught up on sleeve design since it’ll be covered by your pants, I go for minimal design myself. If you haven’t worn them before you oughta go one size or a half size above normal, they might be tight to slip on. Also wear them daily for a week to get them broken in, they’ll be easier to slide in and out and once you get the leather stretched they should feel about as comfortable as any other shoe. I wore mine to Europe earlier this year and put 20-30 miles a day in them over cobble and brick for 3 weeks, my feet were fine as was my back/knees. Anyone complaining about foot pain are flatfeet that stomp instead of walk, if you get pain wearing them you got a bad boot or walk like a minority. Fashionably they fit with anything reaching your ankles asides dress pants unless you’re in a wedding themed that way, but stick to jeans for normal wear because it’s just right to do. Plus if you wear them right no one should be able to tell them apart from laceless dress shoes when you’re standing.
>>18278776Justin is shit tier Chinese these days
>>18277759>>18278776Also it’s generally a bad idea to go full cowboy unless you’re going to a specific event. Cowboy boots are casually worn here, you’ll see folks in polos or hoodies with them. If you aren’t in the rodeo or work on a farm you shouldn’t get a buckle, those are typically earned trophies or merit based for a specific trade/career. You can get a hat if you wanna larp but you gotta go with full confidence otherwise everyone will see through you as the equivalence of a fedora tipper. I don’t wear a hat except for honky tonk dive bars or to help my folks back home, and it really isn’t a thing outside the Midwest and south. Best rule of thumb is one cowboy article per an outfit, exceptions to themed events and jackets, you could always compliment your shoes with a denim or waxed canvas jacket and not look like a try hard.
>>18278778For his budget it’s about as good as you can find, maybe ariat but it’s the same difference.
>>18278785Honestly the new ariats are really hit or miss. Most are either cemented soles or horrible corrected grain garbage.
>>18277759If you're just starting out, buy used. Search American eBay, even with shipping you'll be able to find a good pair cheaper than you would new.Added benefit you can still find miUSA pairs for brands that went to shit and started outsourcing.I love my Lucchese, but they can be pricey whether you buy them new or used. I'd say go with Dan Post. They're well made and won't break the bank even if you buy them new. You can easily get a good pair new for around $300 or around $100 used. If you buy used and then pay $50 or so for shipping you'll still be under budget.
>>18278723>>18278776>>18278778>>18278783>>18278785>>18278858>>18278890I wish to thank you all for your insights. As Im pretty sure you all already know, here those boots are a very rare sight to spot, so Im totally ignorant about the subject. I will treasure your advices.Im usually fine with used stuff, however for footwear it kinda bothers me that the sole is most likely worn out, especially the heel, so Im wondering if changing it on a used pair would be good or not.I should have figured out that my price range is too low for american standards since eu is kinda cheaper, Im willing to take it up a notch to buy something new and somewhat good. Im assuming most brands kinda fell off due to globohomo consumerism.Im really curious about jackets/shirts too. Is there anything I can look into? I would wanna avoid going full denim (jeans and jacket) so what are my options there?
>>18278965If you aren't afraid of leather, a suede type iii is a good non denim option. Your other obvious choice would be a duck canvas ranch coat.
>>18277759For that budget get Red Wing Pecos. They have EU distribution through their Amsterdam store.
What brands have narrow shafts? I've heard Tacova does.
>>18277130I've heard of a brand called Sancho that makes texan style cowboys boots in Spain. Might look into it, dont know much about their quality
>>18278965>Im really curious about jackets/shirts too. Is there anything I can look into? I would wanna avoid going full denim (jeans and jacket) so what are my options there?I wear my boots with denim jackets, canvas chore coats, M65 field jackets, Eisenhower jackets, leather coats, and casual sport coats (rough tweed, corduroy, moleskin, etc)Ask yourself what you'd wear a Chelsea boot with and go from there
>>18277130Wear your jeans over the boots, not tucked into them, unless you're a girl. Ropers are a good starting point. I recommend relatively basic, plain ones while you get over the initial embarrassment of wearing cowboy boots. (Nobody actually cares and with pants over basic boots most people won't even notice them, but you'll probably be really self-conscious at first.) Try to get full leather boots, a lot of cheaper ones have fabric linings and they suck. Also, be prepared for them to feel a little too small at first and take a while to break in.Justin is a big brand and probably readily available in Europe. My everyday boots are the Justin Big Bucks and I'd recommend them, they're kind of a hybrid thing where they're full leather except the insole and have real stitched and nailed construction instead of being glued together like cheaper boots, stacked leather heels, etc., but they also have Vibram rubber soles that give you way more traction than traditional leather ones. Mine took a while to break in and I was really afraid I'd made a mistake for the first few weeks but they're incredibly comfy now. They're $200 in the US so probably available in your budget in Europe. As another anon said you can pretty much wear western boots with anything (within reason) but if you want to really go for the look, pearl snap western shirts are the traditional thing. I'm wearing a forest green Lucky snap shirt right now and it's a nice medium since it's got basic western details and snaps but is cut for untucked wear and doesn't have an in your face western print/pattern on it.>>18277213This was true of traditional ones but these days most are made for walking, especially ropers, and personally I find them far more comfortable than anything with laces but I have weird feet. (Bony heels and a high instep.)They also don't add as much height as you'd think, modern sneakers are tall as fuck in the heel, but I do think that they make my posture better.
>>18278783What do you mean by buckles being worn as trophy’s
>>18280987Also here's a pic of my collection. Had to do a collage thing because I'm about to move and some are already packed in storage. The R. Watsons second from the left are awesome and very fairly priced, a bit over $300 which is really good for traditional handmade (in Mexico) boots but I'm not sure if you'll be able to get them in Europe. The Ariat Heritage Ropers, on the far right, are a decent starter option and were my first western boots as an adult but I'd recommend spending the extra $50 or so on the Justins, they're much better boots and more noticeably western.
hey guys im just going to be honest with you, try to avoid the square toe western boots. those are shitty boot barn tier boots for dudes who sit in their ford trucks and blast nu country before going to a trump rally.
>>18277130Just saw Paris Texas and I need to dress exactly like picrel despite living in a cold climate. Would you say this is cowboy core anon?
>>18279378>>18279413>>18280228Thank you for your suggestions. I will look into them>>18280238Im assuming both cowboy boots and chelseas share an equestrian origin so they are kinda on the same page if you know what I mean. I will try to build a wardrobe with the clothing you suggested me.>>18280987Honestly ropers seem like a pretty good deal for a boot. I think Imma start with one of em. Thank you for your words, also your collection looks really nice, thank you for the inspo.>>18280999Is this real?>>18281124Not really>>18281153Nice, it looks very american
If you aren't Mexican or American, you will look fucking silly in cowboy boots
>>18278783>If you aren’t in the rodeo or work on a farm you shouldn’t get a buckleHow am I supposed to wear a belt without a buckle. What will hold my belt together?
Your boots do have snakeheads on them right anon?
>>18282158We're talking about big fancy decorative cowboy buckles, numbnuts.
>>18277130Don't wear cowboy boots if you don't own a revolver.
>>18282272>we gatekeeping belt buckles now
>>18282050We're all living in America #maga
>>18281124Almost every other outfit Travis wears is more cowboy than this one. His plaid stockman shirts with the rounded flap pockets have been a staple of westernwear since the 1940s
Its not a trend. it's a cosplay. southern dipshits living in landlock fly over states thinking they're real cowboys. everything today is a joke. even cattle ranchers have it easy with technology. you dont need to wear 150 year old out-dated clothing. they have futuristic materials to do this shit.riding a horsie Ooooo thats so MANLY
>>18282546It's not cosplay, it's cultural appropriation you fat fucking sperge.>>18282282Hell yes we are.
>>18282274Im in the eu so unfortunately I cant own oneBut actually Id like carrying a handgun (a revolver)Theres nothing more effay than a big iron on your hip
>>18283033This guy will ride into town one fine day and not have much to say
>>18282179how did you get so based and coolpilled?
>>18283033Most EU countries allow you to own black powder revolvers and antique firearms.
>>18283047This anon knows what Im talking about. Even though Im more like the handsome ranger I think>>18284299I will look into it eventually
>>18282546Most western stuff that people actually wear these days has very little in common with the 150 year old stuff you're talking about, most is at least partly made of modern materials, cut to fit modern tastes, and owes more to '50s-'70s and later western movies and competitive rodeo than actual historical clothing.
>>18277130I wear Justin’s right now. Double H are good too. Airat are the popular ones right now but they’re a bit over priced for what they are in my opinion. Sure insoles are great but you can throw some doc shoals in the Justin’s and be just as comfortable without spending the extra $250. I work manual labor, and they’re what I put on when we have visitors coming. That is to say they look nice but not overly formal. The thing is anon if you don’t actually work for a living these boots aren’t going to look right on you. Don’t bother with a Stetson unless you can actually throw a lasso. Buy some nice boot cut Levi’s and put it all together with a decent button up
UK resident here. I wear a pair of roper boots that I got on ebay. I'd like a pair of Justins but they're hard to come by or pretty expensive. After a pair of black leather ones.I don't dress western-y, more of a folky sort of vibe I suppose. If anyone knows where to cop Justins that'd be kool
>>18277130Real cowboys wear square-toes. Just something to remember when going through the selection process. Any man who is frequently putting his feet in and out of stirrups will tell you that square-toed is the best.
>>18286471I thought pointy toes made it easier to get em in
Question for cowboys out there. I got a pair of cowboy boots with a leather sole. It doesn't rain much where I live so I usually don't have much trouble with them. However this fall seems to be very rainy and the winter's gonna probably be too.Would the rain ruin the sole? Should I take them to a cobbler and have him put rubber half soles on them?
Honestly, they suck. They’re just not comfortable, functional, or cheap. If you do get them, get ropers and don’t skimp.
>>18288422But they look cool as fuck.
>>18288407yes, you should.
straight jeans t shirt leather belt trucker hat cowboy boots is construction core and is/looks effortless. you'll also stand out from everyone at the gay establishments you frequent. If you're chubby, don't work outside and dress like a cowboy you WILL look like a try hard larper. The masculine clothes will absolutely accentuate the contrast with your softboy features lol.
>>18288422They're definitely not cheap, but they're extremely comfortable if you get boots that are good quality, fit properly, and are broken in. They're also very functional if you get the right boots, which are typically ropers - there's a reason practically every farmer or trade wears them in certain parts of the country - but can be more traditional cowboy boots too.
>>18280987>>18280996What do you recommend for someone who lives in Texas? I'm sure I have all the options in the world, but I've never looked into it. Are Boot Barn and Cavender's ok, or no?
>>18290632>Boot Barn and Cavender'sThink of those as the footlocker of boots. Can you get some pretty nice ones there? Sure absolutely. Your best bet would be a local boot store that isnt a chain. They're be able to better help you pick what you want.
>>18289179Bullshit. Yeah, they break in. They never are as comfortable as other options. Honestly fucking Blundstones are more functional and comfortable and cheaper. I spent 6 years as a ranch hand in Colorado by the way. I work various cowboy boots everyday. The only ones I ever liked were these roper work boots made by Filson that they don’t even make anymore. Cowboy boots suck in general.
>>18290964All I can say is that I've never had anything more comfortable. Might depend on foot shape or whatever. I've had really nice hiking boots, work boots, sneakers, etc. and some feel nicer when you first put them on but my feet are less fucked at the end of a long day in good ropers or even some of my full-height cowboy boots like my R. Watsons.
