Am I the only person that feels like having lume on a high-end watch (or any "grown up" watch for that matter) is akin to a child's watch?
Do women not get the ick when they see you on a night out and your wrist is glowing neon green?
Only acceptable use would be on an ACTUAL diver's watch where it can be pitch black underwater and they actually need to see the time because it can be a life or death situation.

Of course, a steel sports watch should have luminescent hour markers and hands. Their main function is to make reading time easier. Gran Seiko sports watches with exquisite dials and indexes typical of a dress watch are of no use in a sports watch.

Yeah they’re doing fine and will continue doing so, but have you ever heard anyone say they like the latest rolex offerings compared to vintage stuff? Everyone I’ve spoken to has an old rolex dream watch, a 1016 or a stoneface datejust from the 90s or something.

the average Rolex buyer does not care about vintage models and just wants a big, flashy watch to flex on other people

>because the enthusiast who is active in online watch forums is not the average Rolex customer, they are probably less than 0,01% of watch buyers
This is something the terminally online don't understand: rolex makes more datejusts and op's yearly than all the professional line models, that "enthusiasts" all soiface over, put together. Ask some rando to think of a rolex and they'll describe a dj with a fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet.
Core demographic is white collar middle to upper middle income office workers who want wrist jewelry and who've never heard the terms submariner, gmt master or daytona before. I went to europe last year on business and accompanied the tasteless fuck I travelled with to the city's LV boutique. The old bird that was the store manager that attended us was wearing a ladies dj. The other wagies op's. Shit even the old business class cabin steward wore a stretched to shit old twotone dj he probably got 20 years ago.
I see dj or op's all the time on accountants and lawyers but I've rarely seen pro line models in the wild in a work setting.
>>
>>18286514
I think a perpetual calendar in a 36mm gold oyster case with the president bracelet would be a great idea. It's not a watch I would buy myself, but I would love to see something like that exist.

>>You wake up in the middle of the night.

what kind of sick fuck falls asleep with the phone on a designated place within reaching distance?
a more likely scenario is you fumble around and you can't find the shit because the phoon has slid around and disappeared somewhere
even worse maybe totally discharged and you are fucked
that's a scenario why I would need my watch on me 247
the next scenario is during a shower to check time
pretty much the only other two scenarios where I feel the need of a watch
and also day to day if you start pulling up your pocket watch thousand times starts get tiring, also during rain and trying to view the phoon, because you did not overpay for ip rating your phoon is fucking up due to the raindrops
plus you can't jockomaxx with a analog, gotta wake up at 4am and press the EL backlight

vintage rolexes are shitters, rattly hollow oyster bracelets are for brainlets

>Ask some rando to think of a rolex and they'll describe a dj with a fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet.
I did not even know what a datejust was in the beginning
I knew what sub, gmt, daytona was
I had no clue about non sports
maybe cause I'm from the hood of a first world country, nobody wore anything but sports

>I see dj or op's all the time on accountants and lawyers but I've rarely seen pro line models in the wild in a work setting.

>vintage rolexes are shitters, rattly hollow oyster bracelets are for brainlets
This is the sad reality that everyone in this thread wants to forget. The proportions of a vintage Rolex are perfect, they are beautiful watches and look great in photos, but when you have a modern Rolex with a modern bracelet... there is no turning back.
>>
>>18286631
>these will all sell out
I won't rull out the possibility the Cubitus flops. Just because it says "Patek" on the dial doesn't mean this shitter will be a hit. Plenty of Pateks are available at ADs and sell under MSRP on C24. Patek isn't immune to failure. Who remembers the Neptune?
Also the Cubitus is like 2 years late. The fad for integrated bracelet sports watches is dying (thank God) and collectors/investors are now shilling small dress watches.
And finally, the watch is poorly received to say the least. Obviously some richtards from Dubai would buy anything from Patek, but I really doubt there will be years long waitlists for a watch that's universally mocked, even by fucking Hodinkee.
>>
>>18286658
It could flop, but I don't think it will. It will probably be produced in small enough numbers that demand stays high. Patek knows what they're doing when it comes to market manipulation.

>Who remembers the Neptune?
I liked it, but I like kooky 90s designs.

I don't actually know if it was a flop. Can you say that a watch that was never intended to be a pillar collection is a flop? I don't think anyone has any documentation from the period showing Patek intended to sell X many units of the collection.
Like, if Patek redesigned the Calatrava and sales cratered, THAT would be a flop.

Sometimes, I think we get too fixated on sales numbers as a way to confirm that our opinions agree with the hivemind.

Anyone else notice how the quality of these threads dropped by a large margin ever since whoretadello left?
We used to joke /wt/ stands for whoretadello's thread, but little did we know that actually was the case. In the good old days whoretadello and other avatarfrens discussed watches and made fun, quality posts in harmony with regular users. /wt/ actually was a comfy and meaningful place with its own identity.
All this eventually turned to shit when bittercel started his relentless smear campaign. I suppose the only actual reason for that was his jealousy of whoretadello's wealth and social relationships. His mind turned his hard earned wealth into "tax fraud, inheritance money and liquidating his entire networth" and his relationships became nothing more than prostitution and human trafficking.
I am sad that he left, but I understand his reasons. Eventually the smear would've gotten to him and affect his cheerful view of life in general. He did the right thing seeking better, more successful people and I don't blame him.
I guess all good things come to an end and I want to thank you for the good times we had, in whoretadello's thread.

Casio makes some truly bizarre decisions with their watch designs and I say this as a Casio fan. Like you said, not producing a longer battery life watch given their fondness for negative lcds. Their 'retro' watches are always missing some key feature to make them truly great. They finally make a fully stainless one with the A1000 but it's only waterproof to 30m. Then they make the A1100 but it doesn't have a 24 hour format.

It's not childish in the slightest. Quite the opposite in fact: it's perfect for their core buyer demographic of geriatrics whose eyes are ailing. It was boomers and guidos that fell for the panameme 15 years ago, and it's only old men who continue to wear those watches now.

Not really.
I don't particularly care about lume anymore.
When I was younger, if a watch had bad lume, that was it. Straight into the bin.

My tastes have changed and now I mostly wear dressier watches that either have zero lume or very small amounts. I've found that it doesn't matter because I'm never wearing a dress watch in a place where there's no possibility of artificial light. That's what a G-Shock is for.

I actually just sized the bracelet for my Ali Express chimera and then ended up putting this rubber strap on.
I'm so chuffed that it looks just how I imagined it when ordering the parts. I love looking at reviews to see the things people create. Also the movement only losing 3 seconds a day even though I didn't clean and lube it yet is pretty neat.
Tomorrow I'm picking up a watch from service and I'm gonna try on:
>ALS Lange 1, Little Lange 1, Saxonia Thin
>Omega Globemaster
>GS SBGA211, SBGY013, SBGY011 (my predicted winner)
I'm looking to buy a watch Q1 next year but I need to start researching now to decide. My last "expensive" purchase many years ago was the sneedmaster and I love it so much I'm not even sure I need another watch. I actually assembled the custom watch to test features I might want to pay for and now I'm avoiding anything smaller than 38mm and flashy bezels. I don't like automatics because I have to manually wind them anyway. Even the date window is only marginally useful for me.
What watch-related shenanigans have you been up to anon?

Designed. For. Whores.

>“Extensive research was conducted – unusual for a watch company – to find out what do women want in a fine timepiece? It was discovered that women want their watch to be a practical, comfortable piece of jewelry, something chic and elegant that can be worn to the office or gym in the day and cocktails at night. But they also wanted it to be recognized by their peers. A fine timepiece was not a discreet, ‘only I know its value’, other women had to recognize it ”

<$50 you can get a vostok komandirskie that you can bash several people in the face with and it'll keep on tickin. Manual wind so no rotor to spin wildly and fuck itself up over a little rope-a-dope. >Why isn't this Breitling more popular?
Breitling is a step below Omega in normie hierarchy
Breitling is for literal hyperboomers and resturant pizza shop immigrant boomer workers, mostly these honestly
Below Breitling is something like TAG Heuer which now we are hitting real low levels

Omegas are worn by mid tier white normies and stacies with daddy money and young people as their first serious watch

High tier wagie normies and pencilpushers start using Rolex, also trendy white whores, but mostly middle aged men really

APs/Pakeks and other faggotry for upper tier normie ballers

Not sure who wears Richard Millayys never seen one in my country

Gshocks and Applewatches are Retailworker tier, but recently I saw a nonwhite retail wagie rocking an Omega Seamaster so anything is possible, but these exist outside the hierarchy along with all the other Quartz sloppers

>honestly the model i'd expect normies to be most familiar with is the submariner,
Perhaps. However with the ratio of non-pro models dealers at least claim to receive from rolex monthly vs. the number of claimed subs/pro models (eg. in a shipment they may claim that they only receive 2 subs in a shipment of 10 DJ's, Oysters etc., at least a few years ago) then there's probably more DJ's sold than any other rolex and there's more variants of that model than any other one they make.
Here's an estimation some guy made. Estimation because rolex doesn't release such figures so people have to find roundabout ways of calculating this. It was collated before the hard figures released in the Submariner Book came to light so I don't know how those might affect this estimation from 2021. It may not be accurate at all but it fits with what has generally been observed.

EN subs.
The only chinese things are probably the silicon straps/buckles on some of the newer models that you can buy for spares and in previous years meranom would have special editions made that had some dials or cases and bracelets made in china. Those were not the mainline models of classic amphibia/komandirskies and they don't get SE's made anymore.

>>
>>18287663
Yes.

So, deciding between a Chinese and a Chinese watch?
>>
>>18287666
They all are.
It's only rolexbrained drones who think their guys are above it when there is no guarantee of it.
Unless there is a Geneva Seal or a Fleurier Seal, you should automatically assume that the 60-40 Swiss Made rule is being used and that the case, bracelet and dial (which are not included in the Swiss Made value quota) are made in Asia.
>>
It's really interesting to see how that new Patek is universally hated on watches websites, forums and social medias. Sure the watch is ugly but it's just a variation of the Nautilus and the thousandth Genta-like shitter released over the past few months. Is it more offensive than the Zenith Defy Extreme Diver presented earlier this year? I really don't think so.
I've seen dozens of comments mocking the Cubitus for (supposedly) being a mix of the Nautilus and the Cartier Santos, two watches considered as icons by watchnerds. This watch has all the ingredients to be loved, but somehow the recipe doesn't work.
It's like people are suddenly fed up of this specific kind of watches and the Cubitus is being ritually humiliated and tortured on the town's main square for everyone to see.
>>
>>18287660
I'm not a chronograph guy but I think I prefer the omega. The hands on the Tudor are... too bulky?

A tough choice in any case.
>>
>>18287678
I think I like the aesthetic of the omega better, but it is hot as fuck where I live, so the smaller size, bracelet adjustability and lighter titanium are a plus
>>

>>
>>18287673
To be honest, all sports watches with integrated bracelets are quite ugly. Although the Royal Oak Jumbo looks great in my opinion, I also like the VC 222. It is time to say that the original Nautilus is a very ugly watch and looks like a discarded RO design.

There is an overexploitation of sports watches with integrated bracelets, the market is saturated. Every month a microbrand comes out with its own interpretation of the Genta watch.

It is true. Patek is the scapegoat. People expect more from PP than from a microbrand.

IWC are literally cancer
>>
>>18287859
IWC promotes interracial relationships and sponsors an abnormal number of nigger celebrities. I would stay away from this brand, as well as anything owned by (((Richemont))).

I will now rate some watches
>>18287815
1/10, boring
>>18287762
3/10, funny but low-quality
>>18287707
2/10, would be a solid 6/10 without the date window, or with a central grande date
>>18287660
1/10 on that rubber bracelet
>>18287619
engineering is a 9/10
everything else is a 1/10
>>
I suppose I need to get a Breitling if I wanna graduate to a proper sketchy dude sometime.

Didn't they give some blm nog a "stealth" blacked out flieger or portugieser chrono? There's a pic of it.
Disgusting.
At least AP and pathek didn't give those nigs a free custom watch in support of blm. Almost as bad as homos.

will look borderline too small yes, 40mm-42mm is literally ideal, even if you compare say a dj and a sub where the faces are the same size

>>18287322
try to rationalize away a sub but everyone would suck a cock for one regardless
the sports are eternal

>>18287531

you have to be of a certain ethnicity to wear loose bracelet watches

>>18287540
literally the number one use case of rolies, mid tier professionals buying a gmt or a sub

>>18287544
boomers are usually seen wearing the two tone chronomat
the super avenger was popular for niggas and bbc's alike before, iced out too, breitlings are so cheap and polished so you can fuck them up with diamonds and shit, yo

>>18287660
I'd rather take a chinkmaster, tudor is pretty gay, but once you come to your senses you will just buy a rolex regardless
