Earlier this week i tested Parfum de Marly frags, most of you were right, it was really underwhelming.
Layton smelt was barely noticeable, Althair was ok, Perseus too, Haltane/Ouajan/Herod smelled old-man-ish (i hate oud, and tobacco smells like old man to me).

Anyways, none of these were my style, so instead of buying a full bottle of PdM, i just blind bought 2 Profumum Roma bottles :
-Ichnusa (fig fragrance)
-Orangea

Blind bought them but i checked the notes, i love fig, anything orange or bergamot, and cedar, so i guess i'll be good. Anyone has tried the brand?

Elixir mogs all. worth every penny
>>
>>18294168
Elixir shouldn't have the Sauvage name in it, Dior are weak cucks that didn't have enough confidence in their creation to make it a stand alone. The previous bottles are all clearly closely related. EDT and EDP are obviously brothers, Parfum is at least a cousin with a strong family resemblance. Elixir is a Nigerian migrant adopted by Swedes and given the same last name and told it's part of the family now. Elixir lacks anything daring, confrontational or erotic unlike the previous iterations of Sauvage, it's not a bad fragrance but it's not innovative. If you've ever smelled Must De Cartier you'll understand Elixir is very similar but on steroids. I don't dislike it, I just strongly question how hard it's shilled on YouTube and I question both the nose and integrity of anyone who tries to sell Elixir as "the best Sauvage yet."
>>
Elixir is good as a workhorse fragrance when you need something that will perform for 12+ hours and be inoffensive. You use it for its practicality, not to make a statement or as a signature. It's a good, rich scent that lasts and lasts, and can be used whenever or wherever. That in itself is a remarkable achievement for a fragrance, but by being easily most accessible and easy to wear fragrance in that category it's obviously going to feel a bit common (even though 99% of men aren't wearing fragrance).

This is far too strong and far too sweet. It sticks on you like glue and somehow becomes increasingly sweeter over time. It's an unbearable inversion of what Hugo Boss is supposed to be.

Elixir is as far as this DNA should go. Absolu has committed the same error as Eau d'Ombre Leather. Too sweet. too much. you have to make a scent that has depth and completeness of notes. You cannot just nuke everything with sweet molecules.

Sounds like simple buyer's remorse but he can't admit it to himself. He clearly doesn't like it as much as he claims or else he wouldn't be torturing himself like this. The benevolent thing to do would be to tell him that it's 100% fake so he stops thinking about it.

>>18294753
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. And this has been going on for weeks. Every once in a while he pops up in my DMs asking a new question. It really sounds like he's searching for a reason drop the fragrance. Unsurprisingly, this is a PDM btw
>>
>>18294754
> a PDM btw
Probably should have led with that. But yeah, that's exactly what's happening. People used to do the same with Creed, but it seems PDM has eclipsed them in that few years. The thought process is, "yeah, I like this smell but it's not worth $300. Clearly this must be a fake".

I like it, it's a bit sweet but not vanilla sweet. It's rich and cozy, lasts almost all day. Would buy another bottle after I finish mine. And it's definitely meant for cooler days, it will be cloying in humid or hot weather.

Sotd Farenheit parfum, this one really smells formal. Nothing like the EDT.

It does on me but, can catch whiffs on myself even after a few hours. And I agree that it's something completely different from the entire line, I also have the EDT and I can barely smell it on myself, I don't know if it just doesn't last or if I get nose blind.

Yea, I'm also finding the parfum to be more specialized rather than versatile. I don't think it's more mass-appealing as some say. The 'petrol' note isn't even that strong in the modern Edt, I get more of a realistic car smell from MB Intense/Parfum.

This smells better than 90% of memey niche stuff, that is 2x to 4x the price. Pefect for fall and winter, good for spring. By far my most complimented fragrance, when it comes to attractive girls. Why are you not wearing CODE, anons?

I think I'm giving women the vibe that I beat women. I don't! I may want to sometimes, and I may like watching it, but I don't beat them. But I think by wearing a nice beautiful fragrance I'll give a different vibe. A sweet feminine fragrance definitely makes men friendlier to women, keep that in mind
>>
>>18294922
Very untrue. Niche is hated because you pay hundreds of dollars just to smell somewhat weird. For the sole reason to not buy into popular things. Very expensive contrarianism. If you simply wear designer, you get perfumery, that actually appeals to people, which is the point of perfumery. Wearing Initio Oud for Greatness (just for example) makes you smell obnoxious and off putting. Wearing JPG Le Male Parfum makes you smell cozy and seductive.
Say all you want, that you don't wear fragrance for women or for other people, but deep down, you actually do. And niche shit is just a way to gatekeep and feel superior, simply by virtue of having an obscure product, that most people don't even know or give a shit about.
Want pussy? Spray Dylan Blue.
Want autist streed cred? Spray Amouage Interlude

Anyone with a job can afford a 300$ fragrance. Only an autist will actually buy it.
It's not that much money, just too much money for pointless meme water.

Still don't believe me? Look at any fragrance influencer. Half of them are autistic men, who never get any, the other half are attractive women, who want you to buy shit.

Chad just walks into a store, grabs Sauvage and then fucks women.

Recently sampled:

Travel size for all these ones:
Dior Homme Sport: resinous and bright, lemon, Elemi, citrus, some ozonic notes. Fantastic. A good transition out of freshie blue frags. Feels more mature.

Dior Homme Intense: feels like totally different DNA than regular Dior Homme and in the best way possible. Powdery, smooth iris and leather/suede. All the notes sound feminine but it’s VERY masculine imo. Not a blind buy but so so good. Not for guys under 30.

Dior Fahrenheit: the hate for this is frag is complete bullshit. Probably a top 5 of all time for me. Green, leather, gasoline and ozonic notes. It smells like a brisk spring day. Niche tier levels of creativity on this one. A masterpiece.

Smelled these in store today:

Terre d’Hermes EDP: smoother less dirty version of the EDT. Have heard the longevity is better. More mass appealing than the OG.

Whatever that new yellow Eros is called: Lazy aventus clone.

Eros EDP: Never smelled this one before. It’s okay. Nothing you haven’t smelled before. Eros Flame is by far the best one of this line.

JPG Le Male EDT and EDP: what the hell happened here? I’ve smelled this in the past and it was a powdery lavender and vanilla. a sort of timeless masculine scent. Tried it today and it’s basically just Tonka/coumarin. Bad bottles or did they just change the formula?

TF Ebene Fume: Spicy resinous amber. Mature. Would cop a dupe not worth whatever they are asking.

TF Vanille Fatale: You ever smell the heads of plastic dolls? That weird sort of sweet vanilla plastic? The dry down on this is like that. Sort of comparable to Casmir by Chopard in that respect. Didn’t get much of the coffee/tobacco they mention on Fragrantica. It’s like a pleasant dirty plastic vanilla.

Stronger with You EDT: Forgettable. Would be good for like an 18 year old buying his first fragrance or as a gift.

Check out stuff by gualtieri aka Orto parisi or Nasamotto

Bergamask might be what you’re looking for. It’s a really musky dirty bergamot that’s citrus but not fresh. I have it and it’s a complete beast. 2 sprays max. Have heard good things about basically everything from Orto parisi: Viride, Couiom, Terroni, , Brutus would all probably fit what you’re looking for. Seminalis and Megamare probably not what you’re looking for.

Alternatively look for some old school spicy chypres. They can smell sort of dark and brooding. Stuff with labdanum

Also they have majorly fucked this website up. 900 seconds and a seizure inducing captcha.

Nta but honestly what is the point of posts like this? Don't you ever get bored of this faux elitist persona you're trying to project?
>>
>>18295426
Fragrance in general is a way for the lower and middle class to get an affordable, but relatively expensive (in comparison to other goods) taste of luxury and designer fashion. It is also a category of good with an incredibly broad range of products in different price ranges, which makes it easy to get both autistic and elitist over. Partly due to thr tendency for the lower classes to associate higher prices and exclusivity with both quality and status. So comments like anons are part and parcel for this sort of interest and you will find snobs in similarly positioned interests like tea and coffee and liquor.
>>
>>18295438
You're right. I doubt you would get answers like this if you were asking about something less affordable like cars.

Depends where you go, if it’s a place where people are enthusiasts instead of just ”I own a car because I need one to fo from place A to B”, you *will* encounter similar autism.

>>18295438
Can confirm, coffee discussion is utterly insufferable when you get ultrasnobs in. It literally becomes an exercise of
>you shouldn’t even think of making espresso at home unless you are willing to put 2500 dollars into it
Whisky also is the same.

And yeah, it’s hard to be enthusiast without becoming at least a bit snobby towards it, but it’s one thing to say that you wouldn’t buy a bottle of Jameson because you don’t find it particularly interesting, and another to pretend that you’re gonna puke if you take a sip of simple cheap Irish whisky, as if it was some kind of sewer water. First is fine, latter is pure faggotry.

I bought it recently and have been wearing it for school, mainly. Very happy with it. I think it's a great scent, a bit sweet from the honey but not that much, obviously the lavender is a big component of the profile, also quite woody for me. Everyone says it reminds them of a steam pressed dress shirt and it's true, it really invokes that feeling. I think it's clean and elegant and has character, despite being fairly inoffensive. Also good performance for an EDT, lasts me most of the day with soft projection.

I'd say it definitely works for autumn, definitely spring, most likely even winter. I think it's more about the setting in which you wear it, I personally think it's more of an school or office fragrance. Don't think it'd be good for summer, however.

>>
Worst frag in your collection? For me it’s Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene. I don’t know how you would even begin to wear this. Smells like floral bathroom spray in a nursing home. The green notes are great and the evolution from green/floral to powdery is interesting but there’s something that I can’t put my finger on here that really stinks.

Honestly people like this make me want to gatekeep big time. I really don’t like the how snobbish this hobby is but I kind of get the knee jerk reaction after seeing these morons who think that wearing a certain fragrance is going to make women like them. If you’re not wearing a fragrance for yourself you are doing it wrong. Wear what you like.

Also nearly all “fragrance influencers” are insufferable. I really can’t stand most of them. It’s very clear they are just industry plants.

I've never understood the statement that niche fragrances are better. Designer houses like Chanel, Dior, Hermes can spend much more money on notes, research, perfumers than any of the niche houses
>>
>>18295550
Its not in my collection anymore but there was a victorinox one i got that smelled decent enough when i got it but as i got nicer frags i went back to it and it was just a screechy mess. I immediately binned it
>>
>>18295584
True, but nichefags don't care about the actual scent anyway.
>>
>>18295584
Designer is more wearable and mass appealing. Niche is more interesting and artistic. Im working through some zoologist samples and some of them are really cool and well made and true to the concept but I haven’t really found one that I would ever wear to a function
>>
Any fragrances which dont smell of sugar with bergamot as a top note and patcholi and/or vetiver as base notes?
>>
>>18295550
I used to own grey flannel and I agree it's unwearable. Smells like a cleaning product (and a dated one, used in public toilets or something).
>>
>>18295476
Interesting, thanks for the input. I’ve sampled about half the list so far and curious where stuff falls for others.

>>18295550
“Worst” is very relative for me. Technically I own Secretions as a meme, so that would auto qualify, but it’s not like I’d ever wear it. For me the ‘relative’ worst would probably be Etruscan Water. It’s interesting, and I like it, but I don’t love it either so I don’t reach for it much. Also, it’s just so damn loud for a scent I don’t love. Conversely I could say Spicebomb Extreme is my most hated scent because despite loving the scent profile it just doesn’t perform on my skin. I get ~30 minutes tops before it goes skin scent which annoys me.

>>18295584
Not going to argue designer vs niche with you, but devils advocate for conversations sake -
Designers -have- to make mass appealing scents, but they don’t actually get more time because they’re required to churn out a new frag every quarter or bi-annually so people constantly feel the need to buy ‘the next new thing!’. They’re constantly rushed. Niche composers actually can take their time because they’re their own boss.
Also, designers may have a higher budget for notes, but they simply cannot source rare natural materials due to the quantity they would require to put out a mass market frag. Niche is still limited by IFRA standards, but what is legal they can conceivably source even if something is rare because they don’t need to produce 5 million bottles.

Amber Oud Aqua Dubai really grew on me. It's so soapy that it's uncanny. There's a subtle frankincense note in the base too that gives it a holy vibe. Warning not for people who like sharp chemical or "soapy" frags. In the same ballpark as Nikos Sculpture, Missoni Wave/VpH/Chanel AHS but with a distinct strong cleaning product character that, combined with the subtle incense, is pleasant in my opinion. Shit is very strong

>is current Fahrenheit formulation as bad as people say?
Pre-pandemic it was very fresh but nowadays it's okay but the top and mid notes fade quickly and leave the patchouli-heavy base for a long time, easy 8-hour performance but the cool stuff ends at 2 hours while old school stuff lasted for 4 or so hours while leaving the patchouli-leather for 12 or so hours.
Whoever says it's like the old stuff hasn't smelled the old stuff, that was gasoline max for a long time and with long-lasting leather. Right now it's violet leaf leather tea with a patchouli afterburner.

It’s pretty unwearable not gonna lie. Very incense forward my with a sort of permanent marker cheap oud. It’s nuclear too. One spray and it’s on for 24 hours. Sacred Scarab
>Slightly fruity resinous/incense note off the top with a darker animalic undercurrent
>red wine accord is prominent and addictive
>Initial impression feels oriental-woody
>very wearable and yet complex mix of dark fruits, resins and woods brought together with animalic accords that impart a sense of mystique
>middle drydown is dominated by resins and musk and supported by the woods. Surprised that I don't see sandalwood on the notes.
>feels rich, would be excellent for a formal occasion
>overall dark/sensual/mysterious and definitely for evening wear

Sloth
>very fresh floral and berries in the initial burst, almost feels designer
>smoothly transitions into a somewhat heavier dried flower and aromatic spice, sort of like if you mixed chamomile tea with flower petals and spices
>the hay note is definitely there but its more like a dry grassy scent rather than a barnyard hay smell
>the musk and vanilla in the base are absolutely lovely, and as it dries it seems to bring out a different note with each sniff
>stays creamy and fresh as it dries
>Overall very, very nice all-arounder, all season, any time, but leans more casual

Sloth really surprised me, I wasn't really hyped for it and the note breakdown was interesting, but it feels like a top-of-the-line designer frag, very well made and mass appealing but also very natural and complex. Scarab was one I was pretty excited for and I still think it exceeded my expectations. Both are complex and wearable, but Scarab feels similar to Tiger as it dries.

Bought a bottle of khamrah since it was dirt cheap on discount and this shit is so fucking strong. I like the smell fine but even 1 spray on the back of my neck is too strong even after 3-4 hours. This doesnt seem to be a problem for most people somehow? 1 spray on the chest is all I can manage since it's lower and I don't smell it as much

Even though it doesn't last as long I would recommend the EDT over the EDP. This is the smell of a man, this is a top tier fragrance.

I've never tried that one, but I've had really good experiences with Maison Margiela's Replica line
>>
Today I saw a guy at the store apply like 40 sprays of Sauvage from a tester bottle.
He went neck to both forearms to neck again. A terrifying sight.

if I adore Dior homme intense, Born in Roma and Phantom, is it safe to blind buy Ultra male?
>>
>>18297919
no but Ultra Male should be available in all bigger frag stores so don't blind buy it
>>
>>18297631
Why the EDT over EDP?
>>
>>18297934
It isn't, and I've tried all of them. Clerks had never even heard of it. And finding non-overpriced samples in Europe is surprisingly difficult
>>
what is the sweetest perfume i can buy as a man and still have people think i'm not gay?
>>
>>18297959
If you order directly from JPG they send a small tester of the fragrance you purchase with the fragrance so you can 'try it before you buy it." So along as you don't open the actual fragrance bottle itself, or remove any of the packaging surrounding it, ( JPG fragrances come in a can with a plastic wrap around the can.) You can send the bottle back for a refund.

I get more compliments on the EDT

you didn't spend the first 5 seconds sure this was either a tranny or one of those "hot chicks" (she's not fat) only uglies find hot?

I am so picky on scents, went to the store to try out a bunch and the only ones i tolerated was Invictus and montblanc legend.
>>
>>18297297
Not that guy but Tuxedo feels more high quality than Moustache. Moustache is a bit astringent and the drydown is too vanilla-forward imo
>>
>>18297778
No that is a boring scent that is just a generic freshie, what you are looking for is Sel Marin from Heeley

Wearing it now for the first time. Definitely have the Bois Imperial smell, but warmer and a bit leathery labdanum is coming through and makes it more wearable to me. The bug spray smell is tamed with the warmness.
If you the Bois Imperial then I'd say it's worth the price.
Will give it a proper wear tomorrow.
