I want to build a wardrobe and purchase basic clothing items such as t-shirts, pullovers, turtlenecks, hoodies, jeans, and chinos. Can you recommend brands that offer the best price-to-performance ratio?
uniqlo and j crew are alright for basic shitj crew has improved a lot in the last few years while staying around the same price
>>18308856learn how to id and buy all the americana brands that used to be good but suck or don't exist now like vintage ralph lauren, marlboro, ll bean, eddie bauer, brooks brothers, j crew etc. what brands to get into depends on your style. lootfam on youtube is a good resource.good example you can get vintage polo ralph lauren shit for 5-15bux all day long on ebay and make a respectable wardrobe just from that. good example vintage ocbd's are cheap and clap the fuck out of anything you can buy new today other than mercer & sons bc quality across the board's gone downhill with time.make a basic wardrobe with that shit then fill in the blanks and upgrade the stuff you wear a ton with better pieces from higher end menswear brands on the menswear side of things or japanese brands on the workwear side of things. look through old j crew, sears etc catalogues and old photos/movies/etc for inspo. pinterest is a better aggregator than image search these days. >>18308903uniqlos garbage other than 1 or 2 items their crewneck sweaters are alright. j crew is alright on sale if you're really strapped for cash. that shit's way too entry level and uniqlo's not even really the style he's asking.
>>18308927I've been wearing my Uniqlo U long sleeve T's for years now with no terrible wear. Just don't over dry them and its fine.
>>18308931bro posts a classic americana pic in op and you think he wants some nigger rapper fit boxy tee? kekw.
>>18308927i only have a few uniqlo pieces but theyve held up alright over a couple years. yeah theyre cheap, i figured thats what OP wanted. and delving for used clothes is a whole rabbithole. i do it a lot but you have to know exactly what to look for (in terms of style, condition, quality, and extremely importantly fit) since you cant try it on and often cant return or have to pay shipping to return. also your inspo pic is tacky af who wants to dress like that todayif OP wants to try used though, he should watch some coyote sharp videos, really informative and underrated channel by a professional reseller. i wouldnt have so many shitty pieces in my closet if i had watched it before starting to buy used clotheshttps://www.youtube.com/@CoyoteSharp

>>18308956learning vintage ralph lauren and brooks brothers is my recommended starting point. more info on them online and ebay is full of nice shit for pennies. then use the techniques you learn for other brands you branch out to. older shit will be made in places more like usa and hong kong not garbage tier countries and can be had for pennies. you can make a respectable nice wardrobe from vintage rl for pennies then fill it out with jap stuff for the garments you want a grail for.some intro content:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q-oh1RWS9shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MsJ9ePH7ukhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jIyY-LXnF4for more expensive pre-1960's vintage items that resell for hundreds to thousands of dollars: the way to get them cheap is spend hundreds of hours committing everything related to identifying the garments you want to memory (sweatshirts etc) like brands, details to look for that separates them from new stuff etc. then hit up estate sales. they're a goldmine with proper knowledge and the ability to pick up a phone and call a boomer.
>>18308856>>18308938he posted ai slop
>>18309494fuck youre right i didn't click the thumbnail.if i knew that there's no way he would have gotten my effort replies. fuck you op. cunt.
>"hey I like your pants!" "thanks they have the best performance to price ratio! isnt that amazing!?"fuck off nerd
>>18309462>>18308939Why should OP buy used basic clothes like white/ black t shirts and pullovers? Are you retarded? Are you homosexual? Or both?

>>18308856Trousers:I normally go for 100% cotton moleskins from M&S. Alternatively:-Cotton chino shorts (olive green -sometimes mistaken for lederhosen)-Levi 514s in a dark wash-Dark olive green chinosShirts: White stuff. They make decent shirts. About £60 a shirt. I have several check shirts from them from when I decided to start dressing decently in 2021. The one I wore the most often has worn away on the collar but the other two are fine. I took the collar off and have it as a grandad shirt for gardening in. They also do linen shirts.Alternatively, find some small British brands that sell tattersall shirts. Always buy long sleeved shirts as if it’s hot enough for a short sleeved shirt, you can always just roll up the sleeves of a long sleeved shirt. A lot of the time British brands will have an offer like “2 shirts for £x” discounts to draw people in.Jumpers + cardigans:Cheap Zara Origins or M&S for £20-£80 Cotton is cheaper. Alternatively, try the Aran wool market or small British brands that sell jumpers. Normally £90-£200. They’re normally of a very high quality. I paddy-max and normally have a a jumper a size too big that I roll up my arms creating a turn back cuff.Socks:“Bamboo” socks which are really rayon made from bamboo are chemically identical to cotton. Nowhere near as sweaty as polyester but will wear out quickly owning to them being thin and the chemical structure of rayon (structure is different to the actual material. Cotton is all piled together whereas rayon is in lines like soldiers on a parade). If you want something that lasts, I recommend wool socks from Europe. Scandinavia + the British isles export tons of these and you can get a pair for £10-£30. Sounds expensive but the idea is they last long and you repair them when they eventually wear out. Learn to do this or ask your gf/wife for help if she’s into that sort of thing.Coat:Have one or two good coats/jackets. Get a wool overcoat.
Hijacking the post.If I want to buy multiple jeans from one brand, which one would you recommend?I read that Levis is not the best anymore. What are better alternatives?
>>18308856>Ignore the brands the prices. Focus on the quality, and ethics.>Go for natural materials, pay close attention to where, how, and by whom is made.that's about it, if you just want to be told what to do, maybe go see what is the current trend on social media.
