Gotta get about halfway through the postcap with the same people complaining about watches thy don't like for some reason then a few people will hop in and post some neat stuff. Usually a few vintage watches that are kinda price, some bonkers $100k watches nobody here will ever touch, and then some fun oddities. Gotta post the same images from the last 900 threads too. All in all, theres only about 20-30 new or genuine posts in any given /wt/. Best to just add the thread to the watcher, and check back once a day. Theres a new thread daily and you'll see the pattern soon.

The watch thread (/wt/) was once a shimmering microcosm of haute horology, a place where enthusiasts, collectors, and dreamers convened under the avatar-draped banners of its most vibrant posters. These weren’t just participants—they were the lifeblood of the thread, the architects of its golden age. But now, their absence loomed like the shadow of a dying clocktower, heralding the slow erosion of a once-vital community.

At the heart of the thread’s ethos was "Kofe Time." This ritualistic posting wasn’t just a catchphrase—it was a sanctuary. The jovial warmth of the phrase acted as a natural repellent to advertisers and opportunistic shills. Without it, the thread had devolved into a soulless exchange of marketing copy and stock images. It was clear that the shills, unopposed, were closing in.

Whoretadello, with his penchant for ostentatious yet undeniably impressive watches, was a provocateur par excellence. His collection—teetering on the boundary between brilliance and vulgarity—was the source of BitterAnon’s relentless invective. Yet this antagonism, paradoxically, sparked some of the thread’s most illuminating debates. The friction between these two forces created a crucible of wit, critique, and entertainment that kept the thread vibrant. Without Whoretadellos’ audacious flexing, BitterAnon’s razor-sharp commentary dulled, and with it, the soul of the thread.

CMC (CatMoserChad) was the thread’s diplomat. He bridged the chasm between the accessible and the aspirational, celebrating a humble Casio with the same reverence he gave to a Breguet Tradition. His posts were a symphony of balance, keeping the peace while ensuring every wristwatch, no matter its price, was given its due. Without him, the thread fragmented—reduced to cliques and silos, with no mediator to mend the divide.
>>
>>18315328
Aoi-san was a singular force—a champion of diversity who ensured that the thread never devolved into a monotonous parade of Swiss logos. His posts were a kaleidoscope of rare microbrands, artisan pieces, and underappreciated gems from across the globe. Without him, the thread’s once-vivid palette faded into grayscale.

OmegaDrunk, the connoisseur of perfection, was the paragon of measured expertise. His posts were an art form: precise, insightful, and unfailingly human. His relentless pursuit of the “perfect watch” inspired others to refine their tastes. Now, in his absence, the thread lacked the gravitas and camaraderie that only he could provide.

The supporting cast of AvatarPosters added their own indelible strokes to the tapestry. CockWatch’s irreverent humor brought levity to even the most contentious debates. Hemibrah’s technical photography elevated every discussion he joined. ArmaniChad, with his unapologetic love for fashion watches, was a bridge for those just stepping into the world of horology. Even RatingAnon, embittered and sardonic, served as a necessary counterweight to the thread’s more saccharine tendencies.

And then there was Mortadello. The enigmatic millionaire was a myth made flesh, owning every grail watch that the rest of the thread could only fantasize about. His collection wasn’t just a symbol of wealth—it was an invitation to dream. Without him, those dreams began to wither.

Now, the thread is a husk of its former self. In the absence of the AvatarPosters, the advertisers and shills have overrun the battlements, their hollow posts suffocating any remnants of genuine passion. The discussions lack depth, humor, and that intangible spark that once defined /wt/.

The clock hasn’t stopped yet, but its hands move slower, each tick a reminder of what has been lost. The AvatarPosters were the heartbeat of the thread, and without them, its death seems inevitable.

Imagine if someone posted an expensive-to-you watch. Whether or not you like the watch is irrelevant. You are now jealous that someone else has more money.
You decide to deem the watch a shitter, you might even throw in a couple buzzwords like proportion without explaining your reasoning.

On reddit, you'd either have to explain yourself or see your shitpost downvoted into oblivion. If someone were to look at your post history, they'd see you're jealous of everything and they'd simply remove your posting rights, since you're incapable of meaningfully contributing and don't even make an effort at doing so.

There are young guys (teens, early-20s) who are on the road to making it.

It's funny how social judgement about someone's conduct now exists more on reddit than in real life.

In real life, there's no real accountability anymore (politicians are the biggest proof of this), and it's not like your reputability or your lack of honor can get you shunned by your town and stonned to death (which happened in the past). That's one of the characteristics of modern life.

But somehow, something you said in 2016 can ruin your social standing on reddit/twitter/wikipedia.

No, we're good. This is just an adjustment period. This has been a blogging general for retards for so long that many posters have forgotten this is meant to be a general about watches, not a blog for watch-owners.

A lot of posters who prefer the drama and shitposting will leave. A lot of posters will learn that no one cares about what watches they've bought. They'll probably leave too, since they're only here for the thread to validate their purchases.

In the end, we'll be back to where we started, back on /g/, so many years ago: talking about watches.
>>
It’s one mentally ill guy. Always has been. It was a Brazilian but I think he probably got lost in the favela and someone else took up the mantle.

The Brazilian was the guy who demanded people give him money or give him a job. He's been gone for a while.
The current most prolific bitter poster is Indian.
That's not to say there's not some light shitposting by pretty much everyone. It's 4chan. It's meant to be fun.

Some people, like our little friend, just can't handle banter very well.

Cryptotards crying about watches prices going down or what?
>>
I know these are a one-off, hand made, limited run of non-production models made with refurbished movements from the 1960s for the Polerouter's 70th anniversary, but I gotta say, this is giving me hope that Breitling won't fuck UG up. (35mm x 9mm, is the classic size)

Before it got quartz-crisis'ed UG was pretty high-end and quite expensive. We'll see if Breitling can resist the urge to not make nUG its version of Tudor in order to put the Breitling brand upmarket.

Hopefully, yeah.

Seeing some new UG chronographs come out will be exciting, but I'm still nervous, since developing new chrono movements is expensive and nothing that Breitling currently uses would be suitable.

If they were really serious about rebuilding the brand, they'd need to build two movements:
- an updated version of the microtor movement with all the latest tech for the new Polerouter
- a new hand-winding, vertical clutch, column wheel chrono movement for the new Compax

I'm still half-resigned to the idea that we'll get picrel but 44mm x 16mm with a date window at 4:30

The ONE man keeping it alive
>>
What's considered the "manlet" cutoff here? Since this is a fashion board, I assume most of you are tall. Personally, I think the "manlet" cutoff is anything below 180 cm. Heights between 180-188 cm seem average, 188-193 cm is tall, and anything over 194 cm is giant. For reference, I’m 173 cm, so it’s not like I’m biased or anything.
>>
>>18315732
Yeah, your height breakdowns are about right.

>>18315732
>I assume most of you are tall.
You'd be surprised. A huge number of men get into watches (along with other stuff like shoes or accessories) because they are short, fat, otherwise disfigured or all of the above. When they can no longer wear fashionable clothes, they have to overcompensate in other ways.
>>
>>18315652
The joke is that every year adds an inch to the manlet cutoff point.
It's only a matter of time until /fa/ considers anyone other than basketball centers to be manlets.
>>
>>18315742
>Th-th-they keep making the cutoff taller! Soon we'll all be manlets.
Manlet cope.
>>
>>18315742
Adjusting for height inflation, Napoleon would be 179 to 181 cm tall today.
>>
>>18315742
The numbers have not changed in at least 10 years.

5'11" / 180cm has always been the king of the manlets.

/fit/ used to posit that if you were shorter (though no shorter than 5'9" / 175cm) you didn't necessarily have to kill yourself as long as you were still otherwise good-looking. (Physically fit, good head of hair, good facial symmetry, etc.) Below that, nope. It's hopeless.
>>
>>18314901
i almost like that shitter but i think the lugs are putting me off
>>
>>18315732
I think the cutoff is 182cm (i'm 183cm).

The cutoff for dicklets is 17cm (6.5 inches).

for wirstlets it's 16.5 cm

>>

Yes, the Marlin still has an acrylic crystal.
The movement looks like a Sea-Gull ST6 to me, but I'm not sure.

Watch pricing has never made sense.
If you like the look, then you like it.
Saying, "Oh, but such and such has better features and it's cheaper" is pointless because the other thing might not look as appealing. Very few watch buyers are so autistic that they buy a watch purely on its specs.

Would I buy the Marlin? No. I don't think it's a good looking watch, but there are a lot of people out there who do like the 1960s style.

Acrylic is just a style choice at this point. Sapphire is cheap enough at this point. The Marlin was designed to be a throwback to the 60's. It wouldn't make sense to give it 60's style, a 60's size, a hand-winding movement, and then a sapphire.
An acrylic crystal gives the watch a completely different character that some people like.
Like the other anon said, this is about looks, not about specs.

Fine, but don't charge $300 for a watch with a chinese movement and plastic crystal. The aesthetic is what it is, but at least set the price somewhere appropriate for it.
>>
Where do you buy used watches without getting scammed? Local pre-owned dealers almost exclusively sell Rolex.
>>
>>18315882
>Acrylic is just a style choice at this point.
Can you expand on this? To me, I basically cannot tell the difference between hardlex, mineral, acrylic, and sapphire unless I start tapping on them at which acrylic feels like plastic. Why not spend the extra $2 on a decent crystal when nobody wants a cheaper option on a $100+ watch.

Like you said, sapphire is cheap enough that it should be on virtually every watch now. Last I saw at some watchmakers supplier it was $15 for a single crystal and a regular mineral crystal was like $12. Theres no possible way acrylic is significantly cheaper to justify a manufacturer's savings/profits.
>>
>>18315896
Sapphire is objectively the better material in terms of scratch-proofness but acrylic "breaks in" nicely and has a nice warmth.
Any scuff that you put into acrylic you can buff out with toothpaste, and eventually it gets a uniform coating of micro scratches which does give it a cool vintage vibe. Look at your dad's wedding ring, for example. It's a record of a lifetime on the surface.
For a watch that is intended to be fully modern, I agree, it's sapphire or nothing. But for a vintage-styled watch, acrylic makes some sense. Watches back then only had acrylic crystals, so putting sapphire on it might not look right.
Like I said, it's a design choice.

Now, the way they priced it, I can't and won't defend that. I couldn't begin to tell you how they came up with 300 bucks.

I think I know what you mean but I personally just kinda hate that look. I get it, but also hate it. Pic related
I have a $60 Waterbury I'm half confident is an acrylic crystal thankfully without scratches, but otherwise yeah I agree with you. For $300 its a handsome watch but when its lacking things like a sapphire crystal and a day complication, its a bit absurd. At $150 I think I'd impulse buy, but no chance Timex would reasonably price something like that.

Acrylic crystals tend to have a fuzzy warmth and distortion, especially when they're domed, that is difficult to replicate with sapphire being literally crystal clear. You can also actually make the case that it is a better functional choice for some applications as although it's much softer and easier to scratch than sapphire it is much less likely to break if you hit it against a rock or wall or you drop it on the ground. You just have to buff the crystal out with a polishing compound periodically to maintain it.

The thing with Rolex, as Mort and others have put it, is that they're great in one- or two-watch collections, but if you have a larger collection, the Rolex's middle-of-the-road, safe design is kind of uninteresting.

If you like watches, leave. Just leave, now. This board has become the worst possible place to discuss horology. Look at the watch threads. Half the posts are now from a new avatard cunt who feels the need to show dozens of shots of his ugly dinnerplates that no one even looks at, all with the same awkward light and angle. Then there is the deathless (unfortunately) shit-eating beetle who keeps telling everyone when he drinks a cup of coffee. This literal subhuman (I wouldn't call him that if he was, say, a guy with down syndrome, as his wrist depicted in the photos seems to suggest, but the issue is really that everything he posts and the way he behaves do make him – it – less than a human person), this literal subhuman, I was saying, loves to carry out its excretory activity in the public spaces that least look like toilets, such as our threads, in fact. It jumps in, it crouches down, it takes a shit, leaves. "Kofe time" – and there it is, its big turd. And you, who came here to discuss horology from Casio to Patek, are forced to smell its huge noisy farts, to take them all in your face. And it's no use arguing with it, because it will fart more. It's no use to report it, because it has never been banned, not even once, and all evidence points to the obvious fact that it is a janny itself, so it will always get away with its compulsive animal urge to smear social venues with its own poisonous feces. An alternative watch thread (/alt-wt/) was created specifically to keep that coprophagous worm and other avatards away from watch discussion, but it was in vain: among them all, the subhuman shit-eater is the only one who keeps encroaching on that space to take its huge toxic droppings on civilized people's shoes. It doesn't matter how many times you report it, the other jannies will take no action against it.
>>
>>18316347
Lastly but not least, you have that Turkish cockroach who can't refrain from posting his dirty-looking body and his tacky overpriced mall shitters that he was memed into buying by 4chan anonymous pranksters. The awareness that he was bullied in the most brutal and complete way for being a retard makes him rage uncontrollably, to the point where he starts flooding the threads with utter nonsense and boatloads of copypastas that he keeps in the notes of his phone for some reason. They also do a lot of samefagging, all of them and all the time, in the desperate attempt to bring attention to their laughable shitters and get a shred of validation, since they're no longer able to even convince themselves that what they got is worth the thousands of bucks they threw in the trash bin. They constantly break all of the following rules: a) spamming/flooding; b) intentionally evading spam/post filters; c) this post appears to be an automated spambot; d) avatar or signature use; e) this post is off-topic; f) trolling outside of /b/; g) this post is extremely low quality. But they never get banned. Only seldom does the Turkroach, since he's probably too much of a shitbrain scumbag even for such lifeless and useless jannies. But then he evades the ban and starts again. This board is doomed. Watch threads in particular are a wasteland and an expanse of shit. Let these curious insects throw excrements at each other until they die. Go away, even reddit is better than this.

This brings to mind a recent occasion when I donned my Grand Seiko for a professional gathering, anticipating it would remain inconspicuous, much like my imaginary acquaintances residing within my computer assured me it would. Ironically, on that very first day, a colleague—someone with whom I had never been closer than two arm's lengths and with whom discussions of horology or "fashionable matters" had never graced our conversations—remarked, “Is that a Grand Seiko?” Remarkably, he even referenced "Zaratsu polish," a phrase I had assumed was exclusive to online discourse.

I felt compelled to clarify that it was merely a 9F model, but instead, I mumbled about acquiring it online before deftly shifting the topic. Meanwhile, you all have thoroughly deceived me, leaving me anxious that others may perceive me as either extravagantly reckless with my finances (which I indeed am) or, conversely, as unreasonably well-compensated (which I am not).

In summary, disregard the advice from /fa/ or /r/watches/, for it seems that I alone have ever ventured beyond the confines of my home.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Omega, is in fact, Swatch/Omega, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Swatch x Omega. Omega is not a manufacturer unto itself, but rather another component of a fully functioning Swatch conglomerate made useful by the Swatch manufacturing lines and Chinese contractors.
Many watch enthusiasts wear a Swatch everyday without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Swatch which is widely used today is often called Omega, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically another Swatch watch, developed by the conglomerate.
There really was an Omega and there are people still wearing them, but it is just a part of their daily wear. Omega is the brand, the name they put on the watch, but by itself; it is useless after the merger. It can only work in the Swatch context as a complete manufacturer. After the Swatch merger all the so-called Omega watches are really just Swatch/Omega or Swatch x Omega, as I like to call them.

> Mass appeal can only mean one thing : being the lowest common denominator.
> Rolex is, this fact is undeniable, the best known maison today. It is the watch every uneducated consumer aspires to. Understanding this is what begins to separate one from the plebe.
> Rolex, to put it in a way one of its owners would understand, is thinking Olive Garden is fine dining. After all, it is more expensive than Burger King and you may even need to place a reservation beforehand. It is exclusivity in the hands of millions, an elusive presence you will find everywhere. It is everything but exceptionnal, special, it is the status symbol of those who need it. And a man with status does not need a symbol for he has his status and that alone speaks for itself.
> This simple, logical truth will anger the simple mind. "Cope!" he will scream, believing you are jealous of him who owns one of the most common and mundane pieces one could imagine. He is to be dismissed. "You are bitter!" he will cry, unable to even imagine he may not have been correct in his decision to adhere to the glib norm of the unaware. He is to be dismissed.
> Would you give the time of day to a supposed cinéphile who believes himself legitimate after watching a C. Nolan film and "getting it"? To the man who thinks himself a connaisseur of the letters and routinely uses the term " kafkaesque" because he has once read The Metamorphosis (only after skipping the foreword, naturally) ?
> These are lower still than the ignorant masses simply for believing themselves higher. They are to be ignored.

In his 1928 book, "Propaganda," Bernays hypothesized that by understanding the group mind, it would be possible to manipulate people's behavior without their even realizing it. To test this hypothesis, Bernays launched one of his most famous public relations campaigns: convincing women to smoke.

Edward Bernays explains groidlex

His uncle was Sigmund Freud (seig heil fraud)

I mean which website sells them, the reptime lists are utter shit, I don't want to have to contact some dude in the Philippines via email and have him send that to Turkey then the Turk sends it to Belgrade, then the Serb sends it to Hungary, then it's in the EU if everything goes well and it doesn't get seized at customs.

Today I saw a Nordic blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman in my third-world shithole. Her tits weren’t huge, but they were perfectly shaped and aristocratic. I wanted to take a picture of her for masturbation purposes, but when I walked by, I realized she wasn’t even wearing makeup and still mogged every woman there effortlessly. You could feel the local women seething. Beauty makes me depressed. I wish I never understood beauty. After that, I wore a mask all day because I couldn’t stand my disgusting face.

>go on boomerforum for highend watch
>want to read about all the fantastic dressy pieces and grand comps etc
>endless parade of royal copes in every subforum
>old, wrinkly liverspotted wrist shots with expensive "sports themed watches"
why do boomers do it? I don't remember the forums being quite like this a decade ago. What's gotten all the boomer in a midlife copesis? Monkeysemen monkeydo? Instagram with hot, young models wearing sports craps gotten all the old men scrambling?
Do they feel younger wearing this shit? Because they look ridiculous and would look better wearing stuff that's more befitting their advanced age.
Zero discussion about anything except the overseethe, nautilus, royaljoke and all the other knockoffs by the way. Only Lange seems to be spared since the ode de joyce is forgotten.

Are you really surprised?
>>

This zombie brand released banger after banger during its first 15 years of existence.
Not mention they made Swiss HH brands raise the bar with their level of movement finish.

These past 15 years?
Nothing but color changes and changing complications.

Okay anons, if you wanted a single watch to have for a long time and these two would be the contenders, which one would you pick? A classic but older 16710 coke that exemplifies what Rolex was all about or the new more flashy and technically more competent datejust 36 in the classic fluted bezel & silver dial config.

If you really only want a single watch, then get the DJ.

The Coke GMT without hesitation. Looks better, has more functions (time-zone but also countdown timer and compass, if you know how to use the bezel), wasn't designed specifically for niggers, has better lume, better aging process, better case, better everything. FUCK nuRolex. Fuck them.

The watch looks neat. White dial Pams are underrated.
But that watch is way too big for your wrist. The lug overhang is crazy.

All men feel they could use a few extra inches.. The overhang is there but not that noticable in real life. The pic makes it look a bit too much though I'll admit. Doesn't bother me fortunately. If you're interesting in Panerais and have small wrists, go try one on, you might be surprised how well they fit.
