I really wish sportcoats werent seen as "dressy" as they are. They look great, the pockets are super useful, and the materials feel wonderful. Society is depriving itself of a great garment with its pathological bias against formality.>>18314971First off that plaid is garish as shit. Blazers are cut to have a tapered waist and broader chest, a complementary V line between the lapels, and open quarters that show your waistline and improve movement. Chore coats just look like a boxy sack that covers up your frame.>>18314989Its a complicated garment that uses a lot of fabric. Lots of different pieces that need to be cut & assembled. More expense if its canvassed not fused. Theres also lining, but unlined is actually more complicated because then they need to make all the inner seams presentable. Most makers wont skimp on fabric quality since a sportcoat is something to keep for decades, not wear for a few seasons and discard. Obviously if it has especially luxe fabric like cashmere that costs a lot. And if its made in the west, its super expensive to pay someone a living wage to spend hours and hours constructing it.
