The Fragrance Flowchart for Beginners
>>
I honestly think Hacivat is better than aventus.
>>
>>18320275
This chart needs to get updated with more current and maybe niche selections. I'm gonna work on this. I know black is discontinued. Egoiste is watered down. Eau Sauvage is great but not a modern starting point. Dior Homme has been replaced. Encre Noir is not beginner friendly. Mugler Cologne is MIA and so it the weaker replacement. Ormonde man EdP was replaced by Parfum. Pure Havane is Rip. Le Male is not best choice for a sweet oriental. Some of these recommendation are outdated overall, and I think a lot of the current recommendations on this board are better overall. I don't think I've never seen anyone recommend Kiehl's original musk.
>>
>SOTD: One Man Show
>>
>>18320283
Not for me. I like Aventus because of it's bright fruitiness and ambergris musky drydown. Hacivat have some plastic woods in it reminding me that piercing shit in Baccarat Rouge.
>>
>>18320271
>identical ones
thanks
>changing top notes or adding spices into the base which i don't think most people like
this is exactly what I was talking about initially. 3/4 the same to me is "vaguely reminds me of", and some fragrances that are praised as dupes of X are something completely different for me in most of the cases
>>
>>18320285
good luck, anon
>>
I want an oud, I want it stinky and I don't want to pay too much. What do I do?
>>
>>18320285
Encre noire was one of the first perfumes I bought, I didn't find it all that intimidating.
>>
>>18320285
>Eau Sauvage is great but not a modern starting point.
and that's a good thing
>Some of these recommendation are outdated overall
and that's a good thing
>I don't think I've never seen anyone recommend Kiehl's original musk.
i have in the past, it's one of the best cheap musk scents that doesn't try to be all clean and faggy. quite similar to MKK but at like 1/5th of the price
still, good luck with it

>3/4 the same to me is "vaguely reminds me of"
I agree, i also get flanked by stuff like that, i think there's many great dupes but not nearly identical (7/8?), yet some of the most praised stuff is vaguely similar at most.
Rasasi Hawas is called the great Invictus Aqua/Legend Spirit dupe and to me it smells quite different, like comparing Creed Himalaya to Cool Water because half the arochemicals are the same. Hawas is a tad spicy woody somewhat oriental base, the citruses are somewhat different too, we might as well just say it is inspired rather than trying to clone it. Loads of dupes for L'Immensite and Tygar and they all smell different, can't even know what does the originals smell like.

>something completely different for me in most of the cases
Aromachemicals and temperature are at play too, calone depending on the quality or chemical "frequency" if we want to be Turin-esque specifc can give different smells, i recall a dupe of L'Immensite, i think it was The Immencity, smelled like old egg whites so bad while another dupe, Immortal, smelled like synthetic marine grapefruit, Turathi Blue smelled like a realistic citrus but lacto-fishy, like an unwashed penis smeared in grapefruit rind and juice, and supposedly they are all trying to copy the same ingredient used in both perfumes made by Cavallier. Best grapefruit i smelled was Light Blue Forever and some dupe from Bharara i don't recall the name but wasn't copying the DNA of the D&G.
I use Tygar/Immensite as examples because i've never smelled them and right now it's a shit show trying to clone one of them right, pretty expensive bottles so no one is buying the original either.

>>18320303
Lattafa's ouds, i will buy a bottle soon as a joke so stay tuned around Monday or next day to see what was it, it's not the worse i've smelled which was a rectal mucus/intestine-tier oud but this one is full-on horse shit oud with the saddle besides you giving you a whiff of heavy duty leather.

>not a modern starting point
Fuck modernity desu
>Encre Noir is not beginner friendly
Why not? cheap and not that normal to smell, if anything it's a perfect beginner's take on trying to act cool and not buy something mainstream, it's a baby's first alternative bottle.
The rest i agree, although it's a great chart and i wouldn't change much. I might try one about very common scents because some poorfags or remote people might not be able to get, say, any Serge Lutens, Fred Malle or Tauer.

More pungent Aventusy copy perfume, with lower quality and more patchouli woodsy synthetic touch,Aventus is way better and elegant than Hacivat and more unique in my opinion.

Kiehl’s Musk is not something you recommend for the same reason you would recommend Dior Homme or Nautica Voyage. It’s suggested as a reference musk to understand what musk is. I have Kiehl’s and its an amazing fragrance but it’s very soft and not something I would ever wear out. It shines as cozy night in fragrance. Something you wear after a shower after a long day when you just want to put your feet up and feel clean and comfortable, or something you wear on a rainy Saturday morning when your plan for the day is just to recharge. I wouldn’t take it off the list, but if you did, what would your reference musk be? Jovan, Aqua Velva, and all the other entry musks just aren’t as good as Kiehls.

What are some generic attractive designer frags with genuinely great performance?
looking for something sweet, attractive and comfy for this winter. Usual go to is Noir extreme parfum, looking to switch things up a bit, but something in the same vein would be nice

it's a good, accessible starting point for noselets. i own it in body lotion form and wear it after a night time shower or bath. but if i were reccing a musk, it would be in the clean/laundry/floral direction.
>>

i like all the spicebombs desu. good performance. ive never tried the JPG myself but i hear they last quite long.
could also go with a Tobacco Vanille
>>
>>18320528
Decants are the optimal way to consooom fragrances. There’s literally no point in owning dozens of 50-100ml bottles as a collector/sampler. You should be buying decants and as you finish them consider buying full presentations.

Tuscan Leather for sure. Spring for the Intense if you can.
>>
>>18320565
hows the performance of the Tuscan really?
>>
>>18320572
I was spraying TL Intense my leather jacket for most of this autumn (too rainy for it now) and it would last easily a week on the leather and I would still catch whiffs of it with normal wear. I haven't worn it on skin yet because I only have 5ml but I would imagine the longevity is there.
>>
>>18320576
should I buy the intense? heard the intense is a bit “lighter” than the original but idk
>>
>>18320581
I haven't tried the original, but comparing notes on fragrantica it looks like intense adds woody notes to the middle and animalics to the base. I find those more preferable which is why I went with the Intense rather than the regular for my sample.

It smells like Cashmere, but the cashmere accord is built out of vanilla and a whole lot of other sweet and spicy notes.

I agree, the fruitiness of Aventus kills it for me, it gives a immature vibe. The pineapple in hacivat burns off relatively fast 30m-2hr. The combo of patchouli and moss is masculine and inspires confidence. The only thing I don't like is the use of synthetics, but I would say Aventus smells more synthetic than hacivat. I ordered a decant of X, going to see how it is. I also have a bottle of Loewe Esencia EDP on the way, curious to see how it smells. Hopefully it's not a disappointment.
>>
>>18320660
Whys it better? Should I sample a vintage. I sold my nyi because a spicy note in it bothered me. I can't deny it's a great fragrance though.
