I was giving a new executive a tour of our refinery and showed her my side of the operation, she asked me what I was wearing and said that's what men should smell like. The HR rep that was walking with us attempted to tell her that's not appropriate workplace conversation, the exec rolled her eyes and said where she's from (Argentina) there's nothing wrong with giving people a compliment and not to be ridiculous. I would gleefully eat the execs ass if she told me to.SOTD: Amouage Royal Tobacco.

For the longest time I've been into and looked for fragrances that I felt were realistic, that were able to faithfully reproduce the scent of something, like, say, Ichnusa with fig leaf, Cardinal with churchy incense, Light Blue Forever with grapefruit, and this is obviously also because of the natural = good / synthetic = bad heuristic, people saying "it smells fake/chemical/unnatural" as a way of saying they didn't like a frag, but at some point I realized they were only one of the many options. So, what do you think are the best fake, otherworldly, unnatural, odd frags?Things that you can't quite place and that don't smell like anything you might find outside of perfumery, like Ganymede, BR540, Secretions Magnifiques and the likes.>inb4 BR540 smells like medicinal cotton candy and almond, which are found in the real world, so that's a bad exampleThat's a fair enough description, and Ganymede smells metallic, so they both are mixes of scents that you might smell if you went out of your house, but they're never found in such concentration or such combination, that's my point.
>>18354598Saw him bragging about it in the previous thread like he was anticipating that he'd get it at some point. Gross freak.
>>18354535>spending that much money on a fragrance should make me part of the cool and powerful people's club, so why are other cool and powerful and wealthy people not spending that much on the same frag!?Because you were more strongly influenced by Creed's marketing than others, leading you to believe a frag would make you cooler by virtue of being a luxury good, and now you're rationalizing this by categorizing people who, for all intents and purposes, should be cool and powerful and wealthy but won't buy the frags you have in mind as cheap twats, preserving the image of the Aventus wearing man that Creed has sold you.Follow me for more psychology 101.

Got samples of Ganymede, Bois Imperial, and Eau Sauvage Parfum this week. >Ganymede: Complex for sure and a very one-of-a-kind fragrance but kind of has a bit of a play-doh scent. Will probably wear it a few more times and let the sample go, it's not really sexy or appealing but it does have incredible longevity.>Bois Imperial: Like this one a lot, wearing it right now. Excellent contender for a daily driver, feels appropriate for all seasons, projects nicely, and has good longevity. Very appealing without feeling samey. >Eau Sauvage Parfum: Dignified fresh citrus, slightly bitter, "old money" smell. Only sampled on a card as I received it just this morning after I had put Bois on. Much richer and heavier than Eau Sauvage EDT as to be expected, and if the longevity is there I can see this being my summer go-to
>>18354855let us know about the longevity. been curious about it

>>18355132>>18355133Well, I just bought a bunch of more expensive fragrances decanted at much lower $ per ml. My point was more that it seems retarded to not specify you're decanting vintage and then get upset and offended when I counter with nonvintage pricing. Age: Early-mid 30s (married)Price: I would spend $100 on a bottle if it lasted a year.Would like something I could wear casually and something I could wear formally; one for Summer and one for Winter would be best. I live in Upstate NY so summer is really hot and winter is really cold, but both seasons are generally dry. Retail availability preferred. So I'm looking for up to 4 separate recommendations, if you will. I have one bottle of fancy perfume from france my mom got on a trip for me when I was in high school and I've only used it for special occasions. I will run out soon and need something to replace it, but I would like to smell nice every day as I've noticed that my wife really appreciates it when I take care of my looks and hygiene on a regular basis.

>>18355375Thanks I think I will try the latter 3 out at Sephora/Ulta. Much, much appreciated.
The samples I bought came with a bonus sample of Tom Ford Mandarino di Amalfi. This is really nice for a summer party, or just summer in general. Although the first half a second of the first sniff can be a bit "toilet freshener"-y. Or if you smell it through the cap. It's like wearing a Citrus Fresh Spicy and a White Floral Musk at the same time. As if I sprayed both Eau Sauvage and Kiehl's Original Musk together. For you who have tried this, what do you think?
>>18355114Yeah, doesn't have lots of incense, mainly wood, it son dries down into something very powdery without any incense at all and just a bit of wood, and performances are overall terrible on me, same as anything Dyptique I've tried. For woody churchy incense I recommend Bois d'Encens, or Ébène Fumé if you want more wood compared to the incense.Or a clone like Artisan Arabian Incense, which is woody incense but not that church-y, or Ebony Fumé which is pretty much Ébène Fumé with a tad more incense.

>>18355589It's always some toothless pajeet talking about Guerlain and Habit Rouge. Is fragrance an inherently brown hobby? Can you be into fragrance if you're white?
>Fahrenheit DNA, with an amazing combo of spices, rum and vanilla. Jeez this is the greatest nightout fragrance for a guy ever created. This and a leather jacket is all you need to conquer the night, trust me. This is a true gem, one of the best Diors ever created.

>>18355633Fahrenheit has always had some vanilla for balance (most fragrances do). They made the vanilla much stronger with time, then realised they can bring the EDT closer to its OG formulation and remake the more vanillic version into an even more vanillic parfum.Honestly a really good solution, best of both worlds

It is fantastic and I have worn it, but I am sure nobody would guess it is me that smells it because it is too feminine and I look like I'm in bandidos or something.
>>18355338Try your best to get a vintage polo green. The modern formulation is good, but the Warner/Cosmair productions blow it out of the water. Just beware of fakes, it's a popular one to counterfeit

How similar are Dior Homme 2020 and Terre d’Hermes? Is TdH irrelevant now?

>>18355915i never smelled Dior Homme 2020 so I can't make a comparision. I think Terre is good entry level frag for someone who is looking for first niche frag, some people says it's signature worthy especially now when most of the mainstream is just sweet pulp
>>18355375give the lad another rec for terre, since his wife will probably dislike it.
>>18355915Basically the whole airy/woody iso-e “genre” spawned in the 2000s by TdH and things like Molecule 01, CdG 2 man etc enjoyed a brief resurgence with DH2020 and Burberry Hero, but has always been fairly niche in relation to mainstream “relevance”

Just got Fahrenheit EdT. Opening is kind of annoying, honestly. The cedar/lemon/chamomile combo ends up smelling super synthetic, like bug spray, and the inside of a cloth-seated car sitting in the sun on a hot day. Finally got around to trying Aventus. I can see why people talk about it; it's pretty good. I tried it after being disappointed with the performance on Viking, which faded from my skin almost entirely within 2 hours. Wonder if Aventus will suffer from the same problem.
>>18356120Lomani is insanely synthetic and camphorous (I hate the smell of menthol) so Drakkar Noir is a straight upgradeBon Monseiur is my favorite fougere right now but the price to performance ratio is awful
>>18356143The longevity on Aventus is not great but it's better than Explorer.
>>18356159I wouldn't mind poor longevity if it weren't for the relative cost. I couldn't imagine burning my wallet just to reapply every 3 or 4 hours
>>18356169I recently did the math and at 4 sprays per day, 4 days per week, Aventus costs about $10 per week to use.

>>18356013You don't get the 'petrol' note? Is this a recent batch?
>>18356289Not everyone thinks that violet leaf and leather smells like gasoline.Newer batches of Fahrenheit, though, are definitely un-leaded, so to speak. Starting in about 2013, the gasoline started to get toned down. When the parfum version was released a few years ago, the EdT started to get a little of the gasoline back.

I'm not trying to be inflammatory, but ever since I was little my impression of fragrances has been pretty negative. I only ever remember smelling it strongly off of people that were unattractive, trashy, dressed poorly, and seemed generally tasteless. I'm trying it for myself now and I feel like the right amount of fragrance is an amount that people can't actually smell, at least if they aren't within three feet of you. Even now at my job when I smell a frag off someone its unpleasant, often because of who they are.
>>18356376i'm in california. when if someone has enough fragrance on to leave a scent trail they're usually latino, black, or a woman over 50, so some of this may be cultural. you're instinct is correct re: people should not smell you unless they're within a few feet. overspraying is simply bad manners imo.but the world of fragrance is pretty amazing once you dig into it, especially if you're approaching it from an intellectual/artistic point of view. stupidly expensive hobby, but that goes for most hobbies.

I regret a little that I under-rated it for so long because of my exposure to it being mostly negative. I think it was partially my recent, deeper appreciation for music that might've lead toward this.>especially if you're approaching it from an intellectual/artistic point of view. stupidly expensive hobby, but that goes for most hobbies.lol I know it well. With fragrances I'm just looking for a practical and usable collection of about five and not getting carried away.
>>18356391>With fragrances I'm just looking for a practical and usable collection of about five and not getting carried away.ah, but which 5 will be worth buying a full bottle? hundreds of samples and hundreds of dollars later...of course you could set some limits and never try anything that costs over x/ml. but in music terms, you've limited yourself to one genre: pop.
>>18356289I did kinda, but it didn't really stand out to me as a gasoline at first. I really had to stretch my imagination to interpret it as such. It came off as sharp and synthetic, almost like burning plastic/neoprene. I've read that this can be common for first experiences with Fahrenheit EdT, so I'll give it a few more chances in other areas besides just sitting at home playing vidya
