The Fragrance Groups 101 Chart
The Fragrance Flowchart for Beginners
>see /frag/ shit on this for years>everyone in the "fragrance community" shits on it>for this reason, never even try it for several years>finally try it>it's one of the most solid designer fragrances I've smelled and completely blows 99% of frags out of the waterI learned the lesson. Things are popular for a reason and contrarians are usually wrong.
>>18530339>contrarians are usually wrongThat means I'm usually right, checkmate.
>>18530354Having opinions that go against what most people agree on doesn't make you special or interesting.
>>18530339Who shits on this? I don't think I've heard a bad word said about this
>>18530365Every fragtuber except JeremyEveryone who's into niche or vintage fragrances
>>18530339So you trusted an imagined consensus instead of your own senses, and now you trust the actual consensus.

>>18530339>Things are popular for a reasonYeah because most people just want to fit in and be like everyone else, especially men, just look at how boring men's fashion is, but they all wear it because they're afraid to stand out, or standing out is seen as something only 'weirdos' do.
>>18530465that's one way to see it, and you're likely right. most men don't really care that much about how they appear so they just look at wha'ts popular and go with that because it doesn't require much thinking.objectively speaking, i think it's an all around pleasant, versatile, long lasting and decently priced perfume. if you only had one perfume, like most people, it'd be a good option.
Niche fragrances are a huge scam. If you fell for it, congrats you’re a donkey

Starting a new job in a few days where im mostly by myself for several hours. What's a good round of woodsy or clean smelling fragrances I could try out while on the clock? Has anyone here tried Office for Men? I can get a bottle for $100. Im looking for a slighly more modern freshslop I can wear at my labour job. I usually use acqua di gio and its fine but it just reminds me of what everyone wore when I was in university.
>>18530433Oajan. If you spray it more than 2 times you'll clear out a room, but I love it at home.
>>18531022>slighly more modern freshslopMYSLF for something floral, Y EDP or Sauvage for a blue frag. These honestly can't be topped
>>18531022It’s by no means bad, but not a fucking chance is it worth 100 dollarydoos. I have a decant of it and tested it once, my verbatim written review was>Opens as a very fresh, clean scent, borderline soapy. A touch of pepper on the back of it, but light and enjoyable. Rather shower gel-ish. At 30 min a mix of clean soapy and peppery notes. Pleasant, safe. At 1H leaning into the pepper, a little less on the fresh. Starting to get quite faint at 2H, but otherwise peppery woody, maybe some patchouli. Linear at 3H, definitely peppery woody, not getting too much patchouli. Linear at 4H. TL;DR - It lives up to its name perfectly by being the most generic, safe, office scent you can imagine, and in my opinion doesn’t warrant 100 smackeroonies. Either get something cheaper, or spend more money on something more interesting.
>>18530711yeah it kind of smells like malibukind of tacky to wear something so strong in high heat, but coincidentally I did wear this out last night
In my eyes. Office for men is a very interesting fragrance; not because of its formula, which borrows heavily from Creeds Aventus. Looking at a 2019 gcms, it becomes readily apparent that the majority of the pineapple accord has been lifted from Aventus, being comprised of Cis 3 Hexenyl, Cis 3 Hexenyl salicylate, Manzanate, Cyclogalbanate, Dynascone, Allyl heptoate etc. (the leather note is also replicated using isobutylquinolene, similar to Aventus’ 2-isobutylquinolene). But all this is not why it’s so interesting to me, instead I find the story surrounding its creation fascinating, seeing as it was the first instance of a crowdfunded fragrance being created by a real perfumer. Equally interesting is also the story of its founder, Jeremy. Speaking from a strictly chemical standpoint, it is expertly blended, a very balanced composition in all aspects, but artistically speaking it does not push the envelope as much as is usually expected from fragrances priced like his. I’d recommend looking for more modestly priced alternatives which still carry some similar aspects, ex. Mont Blanc legend spirit. Alternatively buy the fragrance used. If you intend to buy something else, you should consider buying TdH, as it’s a very light and inoffensive hesperidic fragrance.
>>18531058>kind of tacky to wear something so strong in high heatIs it? I don't find it particularly strong, you need to overspray to get any kind of performance out of it.If you mean the scent profile itself, you're not wrong but what are you supposed to wear when you're tired of citrusy aquatic light freshies? I can't stand them. I'd wear Virgin Island Water but the price point is unjustifiable

>>18531039Okay nice i have decants of both YSLs coming this week, along with a travel spray of Egoiste to try out for fall/winter. >>18531063It sounds like its not bad for $100 in that sense. >>18531189Nevermind I'm not liking the EDP that much, there's a fruity smell, looked it up it's cherry, it's too sweet. How does the EDT perform?
>>18531202at least 4-6 hours in cooler (spring/fall) weather
>>18531145they're complete opposite of the spectrum, of course they won't match the vibe. but i think a fruity oud perfume could work well. i wore Veloptuous Oud in the summer and it was quite nice. i also used to wear Spicebomb NightVision year round. i think the lineup would be fine to wear year round
Body Kouros blind buy was a success. The website didn’t specify years and I think the one they sent is 2000-2004 so would likely be original formulation. Not getting much eucalyptus but its a very smooth smoky resinous scent that I think will take the top spot in the lineup for this fall.

Fall winner?Stronger With You Intensely (vs original?)vsBurberry Hero EDPvsThe OnevsTobacco VanillevsThe Most Wanted Parfum
>>18531373Yeah I might still get a new bottle as well, one to use regularly. I kind of loved Costume National Homme for a cinnamon/sandalwood scent, but that's even harder to buy than Egoiste now.
>>18531380Can’t say I’ve sniffed that one. I read a little while ago that one of the modern Azzaro pour Homme flankers was a cinnamon bomb, but haven’t made any effort to find a bottle, and it’s prob also discontinued anyway.
>>18531374Eau des Baux over TV any day of the week, if you’re seriously considering TV.Haven’t sniffed BH so I can’t comment. Have a decant of The One sitting beside me right now, just haven’t got around to testing it yet, so again, can’t comment. I just sniffed SWY and Intensely for the first time recently and didn’t realize how similar they were to The Most Wanted line. Personally I prefer TMWParfum for a few reasons. In SWY I get minor facets of something powdery in the background, like an unlisted iris or violet note. It’s very much a minute note, but present to my nose. I also prefer Azzaro because he was one of the few heterosexual designers. And as kitschy as it may be, I must admit I’m a sucker for the revolver flacon.
>>18531374Tobacco Vanille is the easy pick for me. It's a simple as fuck fragrance but its just so good, longevity is fantastic, and it's a nice balance of sharpness and sweetness. SWY leans too sweet, Hero lacks the character and longevity, The One is nice but in the end is just another amber, and I haven't smelled the Azzaro but I'm positive it's not even close to TV.Eau de Baux is definitely good but even then when it comes to looking into fall/winter fragrances the final question is always, am I ever going to reach for this instead of TV? And it's usually a No.
>>18531374All of those are good. I would probably lean towards SWI Intensely and Most Wanted Parfum Intense between them.Le Male Elixir is also a good one. Very strong.

>>18531440In English this time, Shitdeep
>>18531099Here's some other shit you should try since you're in your 30s and you have comfort money. 1) Montabacco Intensive - Try the Original and the available flankers. I highly recommend Cuba but that's my personal style (note: Cuba is for Spring/Summer/Fall)2) Zaharoff Signature Seraphim Musk - Smooth blue/violet fragrance with a musky musky base. Soft landing, but nice and smooth with a thin sweetness.3) Guerlain L'Homme Ideal EdT / EdP / Intense / Extreme. This is a recommendation for literally any man. Excellent fragrances for any situation. 4) Mauboussin L'Homme - Smooth lavender and honey. It's a cheapie, but it's excellent. It's Sartorial or Lloyd George without the metalic and earthy notes. 5) Hermes Terre D'Hermes EdP Intense - I've been shilling this since it came out and fuck everybody i'm right. It's an excellent bright masculine interesting burst licorice/coffee freshness.6) Caron Le3e - Yuzu/Lemon + Lavender. It’s trendy to be literally anything other than heterosexual, so she gets points with that demographic. Frankly I’m amazed she didn’t go with a “pansexual” label so it’s 100% ambiguous and she can say it means whatever she wants it to mean. And on top of the previous point she caters to a primarily male demographic with the blatant sex sells marketing tool, but claiming to be a lesbian gives her an easy out to rebuff any male advances from her followers.

Fragrances are something very vague in the end. You cannot communicate things like smell properly without heavily referencing concepts that might not even be relevant. “fresh” “fruity” “masculine”. All those terms have no fixed meaning, which is exactly what you need when creating fragrance related content. Unless you are able to successfully spin a narrative regarding concepts to communicate the aroma of whatever fragrance Arabs are paying you to shill, you’re not going to retain viewers. That’s where the sex appeal comes in; you have to act like a huge slut because you want your viewership to stay engaged. In a cooking video you can still show the ingredients despite not being able to communicate taste, but there is no visual input when shilling fragrances, so you have to be a great orator to sell. Everyone knows women only attract attention by looking good, and that goes double when the content they have to sell is very vague and boils down to spraying something on a little card and yapping for ten minutes. TLDR: women are stupid and can’t create engaging narratives to shill so they basically do softcore porn to keep their viewership (consisting of browns and Indians) engaged

>>18531950I think of each fragrance as the image it conjures up and describe them temporally, stereotypically, and scenically. Temporally means if it's modern, outdated, and which decade it best represents. It's not always accurate to the release date and there are fragrances released in the 90s which make me thinks more 80s, and stuff released in the 2000s that can be very modern or futuristic. Stereotypically means who I can see wearing it based on age, gender, and occupation. Scenically means what kind of location and/or scenario it best fits. It a succinct and easy way to communicate a fragrance. Notes and accords are only useful to poorly compare and shop around for fragrances but it's of so little use because they differ so much between fragrances. It doesn't give you too much information about a fragrance, not to mention each person perceives notes and accords with different intensity. As evident from all the off topic shitposts on the thread there is no need to validate the youtube shills. Every shill deserves a slow moving bullet in their skull.
