Does anyone else think that Chanel Egoiste (not Platinum) smells similarly to Jacomo de Jacomo?
>>18539765certainly smells like it costs as much as jacomo de jacomo.
>>18539765I’ve only smelled Egoiste briefly on a card, but no, Egoiste came off as way more sweet and Jacomo de Jacomo is heavily smoky.

Well, I tried Attar Musk Khabib by Bortnikoff today. I wasn’t terribly impressed with it at first. I found the oakmoss to be exceptionally overpowering on first application, which as an attar gave it the feeling of somewhat generic albeit pleasant chypre extrait. It was certainly rich and complex but in the opening I would have rather dabbed Mitsouko parfum or something. Once the oakmoss settled, however, the natural musk took the spotlight and the supporting vanilla and tonka gives it a very warm and comfortable creaminess. I think I would wear this for more intimate occasions or even just in the depths of winter for sitting comfortably by the wood stove. I’m definitely glad I didn’t pay full price for it but I’m happy to have it in my collection, as it’s certainly a unique piece.
this arrives next week, what am i in for?

>>18540180Yes and no. It obviously has since it’s been in continuous production for 100 years. It’s a part of the perfume canon and, as the flowchart says, THE chypre. If you are interested in perfume beyond it being an accessory that makes you smell good you absolutely need to know what it smells like. That said, overall it exists in the shadow of Shalimar which, as a vanilla amber is leagues more popular and “wearable” for normoids, and you can see that in the neverending rereleases and flankers Guerlain does for it. This kind of puts it in a unique spot as far as classic perfumes go, because there are thousands of vanilla ambers out there, but as the other anon said, chypres are not popular and don’t really receive a ton of marketing dollars because the only people who buy them are perfume autists and oldfags who wore them when they were still vogue. So yes, it is still a scent that is different from all the rest out there and it is worth at least picking up a decant of the EDP as a reference to expand your palate.
>>18540124I thought the Fraiche flanker was the closest to what Pierre originally envisioned?
I saw some frag tiktoker saying to buy boss absolu over layton pdm, I thought Layton was a freshie summer frag? That's not absolu
I've tried Naxos several times and it's alright, but I don't see how it receives all the hype. It's overly sweet and somewhat immature. Opens and remains bright but the tobacco is really subdued.
>>18540215>I thought Layton was a freshie summer frag? Why would you think that? Anyway, BBA is not really like Layton. It's much more dense and syrupy. If you want a 'designer' Layton get WIB.
>>18540195Well, when you put it that way, I really want to try it now. I was between Mitsouko and Shalimar but now I'm leaning on getting samples of Mitsouko and Heure Bleu instead of Shalimar since I am looking for something more "artistic/autistic" than just something that smells nice/is wearable.

>>18540297Lavender, atraric acid and coumarin are the main constituents of the original fougere. I personally think, and Jean claude Ellena will agree, that you can often achieve very interesting results using just a few aromachemicals.
On that note, I believe that presently, at least in mainstream perfumery, this approach to Perfumery is best reflected by Alessandro Gualtieris fragrances. They are exceedingly simple but nonetheless adored by critics, largely in part due to their exceptional tenacity. If I were to recreate his fragrances, at least in an approximative fashion, I would not need more than a handful of A4 pages to fill with formulas to recreate the main corpus of his works, ex: Megamare, terroni, duro etc.

Got this in the mail today, Kouros Tonique Tattoo edition. Never heard of it until I saw it for sale so I picked it up. First impression is great, it’s very much built around the OG Kouros profile but with a fresh and citrusy top. I find I need to be in the right mood to wear the OG as it’s such a powerful fragrance, but this dials back the rawness and replaces it with something more casual. It’s still Kouros but with a shirt and pants on. Cool fragrance, worth checking out if you’re a fan of the original.

What's your gym/long run fragrance? I've worn out d&g light blue and think it's time to evolve. Don't really wear freshies, they do nothing for me. Been eyeing on Profondo or myslf or something in that sense. Don't rly care for sillage or lasting coz it's only for some hours at a time.

See lot of people comparing both Lalique Pour Homme, and Guerlain Heritage to Creed Bois Du Portugal, which is odd since Lalique Pour Homme and Guerlain Heritage are nothing alike.
>>18541345they're literally 99% the same, you're probably influenced by reading note lists.
How is it? I already have Tobacco Vanille. Is it worth it?
Does this have cacao in it?
>>18541367Pretty sure all of the irisy dior hommes have some of it. Old parfum definitely had it, even though it wasn't listed. Idk about the new one
>>18541345I haven't smelled the Creed, but Lalique is more similar to New York Intense than to HeritageHeritage is heavier on the patchouli and it's not as powdery
>>18541367No, it would be prohibitively expensive to utilize at such a large scale. Looking at previous data regarding the Dior homme line, no cacao aromachemicals are used
>>18541380What are they using for the cacao note then?
>>18541382You can get a pretty decent chocolate note going just using certain patchoulis and vanillin. This is also the case here. Even the notes listed, although usually wrong, still reveal this fact by also mentioning earthiness. In Dior homme there are a few different patchoulis, chiefly one with 65% patchoulol and another decol one. Looking at the formula, I don’t see any of the “traditional” chocolate aromachemicals. I find it a little disappointing that there is such an insistence on “gourmand” notes.
>>18541391Makes sense, patchouli can be really chocolaty
Hey perfumer anon, is the “haunted” Dior batch real or is that just an urban myth? I heard about it a few years ago but I always chalked it off as bs
>>18541391What are typical chocolate aromachemicals?
>>18541422Also, to Perfumanon, assuming you really are Perfumanon, how much of your craft is learned versus inherent skill?Like can -anyone- train their nose to be a perfumer, or are there really people out there that just lack the olfactory capabilities it requires to be a perfumer?
>spritz a bit of ambroxan on Dior Homme 2020>can smell it off skin for hours That's all it was, huh
>ambroxan
>>18541397Technically, Incidents like those are tragic but very uncommon, it would have been wholly uneconomical to shut down all production, especially at such a scale. >>18541422The aromachemicals most frequently utilized in gourmand fragrances to re-create chocolate aromas are isobutyl phenyl acetate (favored by Ellena), Demarchy favors the patchouli and vanillin accord while Thierry Wasser occasionally uses the real thing. Generally speaking you’ll mostly encounter PEA derivatives, Methylxanthines and other such aromachemicals. I myself have used isobutyl phenyl acetate with great success in a very famous sweet fragrance most of you will undoubtedly have heard of. I used it in conjunction with various musks and animalics >>18541424I personally enjoyed a formal education, which was in part while I was able to access certain spheres; I think nothing comes close to a proper education in Grasse or Paris, and even the most gifted individual will not reach his zenith without access to certain molecules and instructors. Perfumery in itself is learnable, the same cannot be said for the creative aspect. If you are not a creative person you won’t be a good perfumer. It takes time, practice and most importantly imagination to create groundbreaking fragrances. I myself have been very fortunate in that regard as I have been drawn to scents ever since boyhood.

>>18541628Do you want a new era photorealistic garment/accessory leather or a classic style leather thats more blended with other notes?
>>18541637It's a good one for sureI don't think there is a better value for this style of scent. Maybe Zino if you consider it similar, but it's not that similar to me. The Lalique is more like New York Intense or Pour Monsieur EDP
>>18541642Preferably new era. I like Tuscan Leather, but I'm not spending anywhere near that much.I also like Rien, but I can't see myself wearing it much as it's a little too unhinged. Maybe I should try Clean Suede.
>>18541637Already a sizable dent in my bottle. Works in any weather.
Ralph's Club New Yorkwhat are you thinking about it?Note breakdown is something that I'd love, but I got burned before
>>18541644Ombre Leather can be found for less than half the price of Tuscan. Arab dupes of Tuscan exist (Yuqawam, Mirsaal of Trust) but they really are a matter of “you get what you pay for”. I think Commodity makes a leather scent as well but I havent tried it
