for me, it's Thursday boots
Just want a pair of 10 or 11 eye derby boots that won't shit the bed but the only obvious options I can find are either Gripfasts which are made by Solovair or Grinders which are an even more poverty version of the former.Everyone's glad to shit on Solovair now so what's the alternative for an actual old Doc Marten style boot? Or are all no-nonsense boots just dead and I have to buy the brown leather super tactical hiker heritage trailmix whateverthefucks now?
>>18539671post the pair pls
>>18539731The answer to this question is always milsurp.
>>18539758That's a fair point, it's a classic move I just automatically assumed all milsurp would be sand coloured now and never bothered to check. If there isn't anything in my size, worst case scenario I guess I could get the Gripfasts in greasy and pray that the split sole shit is just overrepresented (huff several tanks of copium).
>>18539779I think people abroad buy greek army boots for quite cheap, but not sure where you should buy from to get the ones that are standard issue. The ones that the army issues to you are indestructible, and they end up quite comfy after you wear them all day for a few months.
>>18539794I'm in the UK and while I get your point, the fact there's a market for military boots kind of implies that many aren't entirely satisfied with their issued boots. That being said the 10 eye docs from the 80s specifically are what I'm looking for but all I can find are the 8 eye boots which aren't innately bad but tend to skew towards the gimped little hiking lumberjack larper audience. I guess I'm just attached to the old look despite the fact everything is more shit forever besides buying a pair of boots that I don't actually like the look of that costs half as much as my monthly rent. Most of the milsurp stuff I'm seeing is 8 eyes too, I'll just have to think about it.
>>18539806>the fact there's a market for military boots kind of implies that many aren't entirely satisfied with their issued boots.Do you not know what military surplus sales are? The military buys boots in huge amounts and change models from time to time. When they change models they don't just use up all the old model boots they have in storage, they just sell them.
From last thread:Trying to figure out how to give maintenance to these boots I wore through winter last year ahead of the cold weather. Also looking to see if the same routine would apply to suede boots. An anon recommended using a 60/40 water detergent with a cloth and then using Obernauf LP plus a horsehair brush.Another anon brought up these have Gore-Tex, does the Gore-Tex mean it needs any special care or different product?
>>18539884gore tex is just the liner there's not much to care for
>>18539884>Also looking to see if the same routine would apply to suede boots.no, suede wants waterproofing spraysleather is fine with just wax
>>18539895What about Nikwax instead of Obernauf LP? That one advertises that it's recommended for Gore-Tex leather footwear. Is it just a marketing scam to keep me away from the good stuff?
>>18539880No I mean that there's options to buy new boots, there are retailers that offer a wide variety of tactical boots and work boots aimed at soldiers in case they want something better than their issued boots.Granted I do get your point, though that's also why I brought up the fact I'd expect after however many years of war in sandy countries that the surplus would all be desert colours now.
>>18539678Copped these used for 70€, Sequoyah, handmade in Italy
>>18539937yes, you showed them last threadnice cop for 70yuros but shit cop since they have 2(two!) fag straps each
>>18539779Update on this:Cocoran surplus boots are still up for sale and they fit more or less what I was looking for, my only concern is that it actually seems too good to be true. I didn't see any knockoffs on ALiExpress so I guess it's okay, I'll weight it up against my other options and I might just have to pray that the sizing is right but it's good to see that practical and simple boots can still be cheap.
>>18539937I promise I'm not shitposting. What do you wear with these? They look very feminine to my eye, but I'm sure that could change when seen worn.
>>18539964Update on this update: Apparently the Corcorans you can get nowadays are all the parade boot model that are issued to US paratroopers but have a thick external coating to make sure that they remain shiny which is the exact same issue as the high shine Solovairs. The actual vintage Corcorans are nowhere to be seen. This has been a load of shit and ignorance was frankly preferable.
What's in the box?
I want some red wing blacksmiths in copper, is this btg approved?
>>18540021Perfectly acceptable babby's first proper boot. I think they look better than IRs.
>>18539920that sounds like advertising shit cause the conditioner would not penetrate THROUGH the upper leather and into the gore tex liner unless you're really saturating that shit then that'll just cause other problems later down the line. what does nigwax advertising claim it does?
>>18540001something exclusive for the euro/jap market
>>18539995Can't you just remove the coating? If that isn't feasible, you may be able to find something similar if you search for Bata jump boots.
>>18539731>no-nonsense boots>Doc Marten
>>18540001we have to wait until 2145 for the product reveal? fucking gay, I'll be 153 years old
>>18539884Gore Tex is a waterproof membrane, keeps water out while letting sweat evaporate out. If you use oil based conditioners it can eventually go through and potentially clog up or damage the properties of the gore tex. Is it likely to happen? I don't know. That's why you're supposed to use wax which doesn't penetrate the leather, but creates a water resistant barrier. That also means the leather isn't breathing and letting out moisture.Gore Tex is retarded in full leather boots since you're supposed to wax and condition them any way. It's basically marketing for people who doesn't know better. They're a cheap fashion boot, enjoy them while they last, there's no point in going out of your way with 'elaborate' maintenance. Just apply some wax.
>>18540345Worth noting that goretex and every breathable and waterproof membrane will eventually disintegrate in confetti.
>>18540001garbage
>>18540314in the 80s they were just a pair of practical boots you could get for roughly £60 if we account for inflationgranted that was 45 years ago but there was a good chunk of time between now and then where they were practical boots
Any recs for a gyw moc-toe low shoe?
>>18539678My boots.I don't work a physical Labor job so the middle boots have become my daily/casual wear boots.Should I replace them for a similar boot but not steel toe (thinking redback or mongrels) or just get another pair of RM Williams (thinking the gardener model, not sure if I should get black or brown though)
What's wrong with Thursday boots, exactly?
>>18539731people shit on solovair but i have had mine for 2 years and wear them daily and they are fine and haven't worn out yet>inb4 wooden shankyes they're not meant for climbing ladders all day>inb4 no gusseted tonguedoesn't matter they aren't meant for long distance walking either>inb4 that picture of tongue being out of alignmentsee above, also leather is malleable and it'll centre over time if you lace it downif you want to wear them for the same reason you would wear doc martens (casual wearing to office or mall or whatever) then they're fine.>ohh noo toyota camry can't compete in dakar, wtf!!!! shit carthis is what 99% of people who shit on solovair sound like
just got some walnut patriots, i think im going to order some kilties and front ranges next. Wish i could get the vibram 140 soles without going custom
>>18540637Cxl vs Turdsday Lefart leather. The cxl pair had been worn more often too.
>>18540666My only gripe with solovair is that their soles feel unstable as fuck once they’re worn down; I’ve injured my ankles more times with a pair of their shoes than with my Tricker’s that exhibit the same wear pattern (I’ve hiked in them with zero issues).
>>18540520>RM Williamsdon't buy them, they've gone to shit >>18540637everythingshitty leather, shitty construction in every way
>>18540001>>18540333this is some john malkovich type of shit.
>>18539678If I bought $500 boots for $60, does that mean I should treat them like $500 boots (ie wear for special occasions or clean/tidier events) or just wear them as a daily or at crowded places they Ould be stepped on
>>18540837You should wear them whenever and however the fuck you want since they're your boots.
>>18540837Boots aren't special event shoes, you should wear them to enjoy them. If they're 500 originally they should be repairable too, right? So wear them as often as you want my g.
Why do so many used shoes have this disgusting swollen look, as if the owner inflated balloons inside of them? It's very frequent with loafers, but you can also spot it on boots.
Thoughts on Rider Boot Co?
>>18540837name of that boot?
>>18540896they're not bloatedthe natural crease sits lower than the rest of the toe area
>>18540952That’s not my point. I asked what’s up with the fact that most worn shoes do look bloated.
>>18540958the leather can stretchthe feet get bigger as the day goes on and as they are used I think you can connect the two
>>18540505They were always gimmicky boots, the air sole was their big selling point and for the longest time their unique looks (chunky sole, yellow stitching) has been in with weird people. I cannot fathom how someone would try to conjure the most generic boot possible in their mind and a Doc Marten's is what they come up with. If you want the most "it's a boot, that's it" boot ever, it's the service boot, so generic that basically every bootmaker makes one and they all look 99% the same.
>>18540896>as if the owner inflated balloons inside of them?they're called feet
>>18541002Dunno about yours, but my feet don't inflate, bro.
>>18541029>he does not know
>>18540896over shoetreeing
>>18541070You mean using shoe trees that are bigger than your size?
Would it be possible to resole the 9111 with a heeled leather sole?
>>18541201For a good cobbler yes.
>>18540837think o fit like a car. if you bought a porsche 911 you wouldnt treat it like shit and youd do oil changes etc.
>>18541201Many such cases!
>>18541201i paid 120 to change the flat nitrile sole on my iron rangers over the beckman style (leather plus topy) at a red wing store. they sent it back to the factory to get it done, took about a month
ID on these boots?
>>18541344Only problem with factory resoles is that they always replace the welt and they attach the new welt with a machine. Which is why their homepages usually say that you can do like 3 resoles on a pair of boots. Which I didn't understand why at first until I understood they replace the welt and therefore make new holes in the upper when they attach the new one.But then again most people won't even go through 3 resoles in their life so it doesn't really matter lel
>>18540907They're RM Williams Chelsea's.Pretty sure they're comfort craftsman looks like they were never worn
Old Ozzie man got sent a couple pairs of Parkies. One of them was the Allegany that looks really good. Like IRs, but done well.
>>18541546Parkhurst seems like the best value boots out there to me. Unfortunately I'm a europoor so I'd have to pay around 200 USD extra just so they can ship from Europe to the US to Europe.
>>18541551What can we europoors do? I don’t want £900 English boots. They don’t even look good.
>>18539678Why does the guide say bespoke is a redflag if both Wesco and White’s offer it?
>>18541583Yanko? Redwing? Grow up and learn to appreciate Tricker's and C&J?
>>18541596OP was just being a faggot and refuses to update it. Don't read too much into it
any good sales incoming from premium boot makers?
>>18541600>Grow up and learn to appreciate Tricker's and C&JYou can keep that pointy shit for you, mate.
>>18541583Astorflex
>>18541596>>18541602I'm pretty sure it's not meant as a dig against actual bespoke services but instead a warning that some shitty brand may use bespoke on theur websites or in their marketing and that one should watch out for that
>>18541596because the word bespoke is used incorrectly 90% of the time. including you! Wesco and White's don't offer bespoke they offer MTO
I'm surprised a country like Argentina doesn't have a big boot/shoe industry considering the Italian immigrants and their enormous beef industry for leather
>>18541546These look like shit compared to actual IRs
>>18541925Love them or hate them, IRs have a very distinct shilouette. All the other IR-like boots look almost undistinguishable from one another.
Id on these boots?
>>18541773What’s the difference?>>18541840Maybe you just have never heard about their brands? Notorious ≠ good
>>18542045>What’s the difference?are you tarded?the difference is when someone or some company offers an actual bespoke service that means that you can go and get a bespoke pair of bootsbut when the word bespoke is used in marketing material but is not back up by an actual bespoke service then trust within a person/company gets broken as they use words with purpose without providing the purpose
>18539749>18539895>18539899>18539941>18540032>18540033>18540333>18540801>18540803>18540952>18540960>18541070>18541333>18541840>18542059This is the same person. >>18542045bespoke is when they make a (you) shaped last, measured in person, typically over several fittingsmto is when they alter an existing last to try to fit your feet as close as possibletwo very different things
>>18542070Then the guide doesn’t make any fucking sense, because none, literally none of the meme boot brands that are constantly talked about both here and on reddit offer bespoke service.
>>18542019All IR clothes look like fat chodes. They can never get the shape right
These are my second pair of chink boots. I still would have preferred Horween roughout for the proper boondocker look, but the reverse kudu is great. It's like wearing an actual glove on my feet. I had to put a shoe tree in just to prop it up, since it's completely unlined.
>>18540706>Le fart
>>18542090Why wouldn't you mention what they are if you wanted to share the fucking boots
>>18542097I did. Chink.
>>18542101You should still say they're iron boots
>>18541925Naw, the fact that they don't have that toe bump already gives it a less clown shoes look. Also comes with leather midsole and nicer welt stitching. IRs (really RW's entire heritage line) occupy this weird niche of being better than Thursday, but not as good as an actual good quality boot. Always lacking something.
>>18542071p sure there's a guy with pairs of G&G here
You negros have any recommendations for pull-on/laceless boots that aren't Chelsea Boots? We get moderate winters here, worse than somewhere like NYC, not as bad as somewhere like Buffalo
>>18542224
>>18542195>the toe bump is a "clown toe" why do people keep parroting this? it looks totally fine unless you have enormous feet
