Just want a pair of 10 or 11 eye derby boots that won't shit the bed but the only obvious options I can find are either Gripfasts which are made by Solovair or Grinders which are an even more poverty version of the former.
Everyone's glad to shit on Solovair now so what's the alternative for an actual old Doc Marten style boot? Or are all no-nonsense boots just dead and I have to buy the brown leather super tactical hiker heritage trailmix whateverthefucks now?

That being said the 10 eye docs from the 80s specifically are what I'm looking for but all I can find are the 8 eye boots which aren't innately bad but tend to skew towards the gimped little hiking lumberjack larper audience.
I guess I'm just attached to the old look despite the fact everything is more shit forever besides buying a pair of boots that I don't actually like the look of that costs half as much as my monthly rent. Most of the milsurp stuff I'm seeing is 8 eyes too, I'll just have to think about it.

Do you not know what military surplus sales are? The military buys boots in huge amounts and change models from time to time. When they change models they don't just use up all the old model boots they have in storage, they just sell them.

Trying to figure out how to give maintenance to these boots I wore through winter last year ahead of the cold weather. Also looking to see if the same routine would apply to suede boots.
An anon recommended using a 60/40 water detergent with a cloth and then using Obernauf LP plus a horsehair brush.

Another anon brought up these have Gore-Tex, does the Gore-Tex mean it needs any special care or different product?

Update on this:
Cocoran surplus boots are still up for sale and they fit more or less what I was looking for, my only concern is that it actually seems too good to be true. I didn't see any knockoffs on ALiExpress so I guess it's okay, I'll weight it up against my other options and I might just have to pray that the sizing is right but it's good to see that practical and simple boots can still be cheap.

Update on this update: Apparently the Corcorans you can get nowadays are all the parade boot model that are issued to US paratroopers but have a thick external coating to make sure that they remain shiny which is the exact same issue as the high shine Solovairs. The actual vintage Corcorans are nowhere to be seen. This has been a load of shit and ignorance was frankly preferable.

Gore Tex is a waterproof membrane, keeps water out while letting sweat evaporate out. If you use oil based conditioners it can eventually go through and potentially clog up or damage the properties of the gore tex. Is it likely to happen? I don't know.
That's why you're supposed to use wax which doesn't penetrate the leather, but creates a water resistant barrier. That also means the leather isn't breathing and letting out moisture.

Gore Tex is retarded in full leather boots since you're supposed to wax and condition them any way. It's basically marketing for people who doesn't know better.
They're a cheap fashion boot, enjoy them while they last, there's no point in going out of your way with 'elaborate' maintenance. Just apply some wax.

They were always gimmicky boots, the air sole was their big selling point and for the longest time their unique looks (chunky sole, yellow stitching) has been in with weird people. I cannot fathom how someone would try to conjure the most generic boot possible in their mind and a Doc Marten's is what they come up with. If you want the most "it's a boot, that's it" boot ever, it's the service boot, so generic that basically every bootmaker makes one and they all look 99% the same.

Only problem with factory resoles is that they always replace the welt and they attach the new welt with a machine. Which is why their homepages usually say that you can do like 3 resoles on a pair of boots. Which I didn't understand why at first until I understood they replace the welt and therefore make new holes in the upper when they attach the new one.

These are my second pair of chink boots. I still would have preferred Horween roughout for the proper boondocker look, but the reverse kudu is great. It's like wearing an actual glove on my feet. I had to put a shoe tree in just to prop it up, since it's completely unlined.
