Reze Edition. This thread offers a forum to discuss and debate wristwatches, pocket watches, and clocks. Several members here are highly knowledgeable in specified areas of horology, so please contribute to the thread by asking questions and/or asking for advice if you are planning on purchasing a watch from an AD or the grey market. Please post pics of your watches here; it doesn't matter if it's worth 5$ or 50000$, because there might be someone who wishes to eventually purchase the same model that you own and would love to hear some real-world advice regarding ownership. >>18544960I still like it. I just don't see myself wearing it that often like I do with my other three watches. I keep it for special occasions only. It's a very shiny piece with a lot of presence.
>>18544961I guess that makes sense. There aren’t too many special occasions where a rubber strap sports watch is appropriate.Bummer. You were so proud of it when you got it. It took me a while to learn to actually wear my nice stuff too instead of treasuring it. But, then, like you said, you’ve got resale to think of. That changes things. I don’t sell watches so resale is irrelevant to me.

Hi all, I was gifted a rolex submariner from my father a week before I graduated with my engineering degree. He previously wore it for a few years then stopped after a while. I eventually said to him I want to wear it just for the day of graduation because it symbolized how far I've come but how far I still stand to go. He did not go to college and grew his business from nothing, he was previously a poor farmer. When he gave it to me he told me to get it fitted for the day and to keep it. I told him I only plan to wear it for very special events. He said no, wear it whenever, even at work. It says you don't need the job and you're there to succeed.Since then, I have gone on to wear it when I'm not dressed in my college outfits (sweats) and I absolutely love it.Now I have worn it in a professional setting during my research and gotten asked if it was real. I am about to go into my first job in an engineering leadership development program where I work at an engineers level but also shadow directors and program managers to learn how to lead.Should I wear the watch at work? I am driven to succeed but I don't want any bad perceptions holding me back.
>>18545777looks a bit shady, but we'd need a way better picture to judge
>>18545777https://youtu.be/la2ztR5askEFashion rules don't apply to heritage watches. They can be worn whenever and wherever you want, and you should not think of its value in terms of money but instead value the watch based on its history previous to being passed down to you and the history it will gain in all the time you'll have it. Also there's nothing more gay than someone who only takes their watch out its case once a month. They're meant to be worn regardless of the fears of scratches or wear and tear
>>18545777So you're wearing a used second hand watch..

The Credor Locomotive stands as a true testament to visionary watchmaking, destined to become a future Genta classic and a coveted collector’s gem. Drawing inspiration from the revolutionary designs of Gerald Genta—whose groundbreaking creations initially faced skepticism but ultimately defined modern luxury—the Locomotive embodies that same forward-thinking spirit, blending innovative aesthetics with impeccable craftsmanship. Unlike other brands, Credor is not just another name but a symbol of meticulous artistry, and this limited edition piece underscores that exclusivity, making it an exceptional investment opportunity. History has shown that Genta-inspired designs tend to appreciate immensely over time, and the Locomotive is no exception; it’s poised to soar in desirability once supply runs out and the market recognizes its true value. Dismissing this masterpiece based on fleeting criticisms ignores the timeless significance of Genta’s influence, which has cemented itself as a hallmark of horological excellence. The limited availability guarantees rarity, and with the genius of Genta once again awakening interest in the secondary market, owning the Locomotive now secures a front-row seat to future appreciation. For true connoisseurs and forward thinkers, this watch is more than a timepiece—it’s an investment in history, innovation, and prestige. Don’t let skepticism hold you back from claiming your stake in this extraordinary piece, because, as with all legendary designs, the real value lies ahead.

>>18546874So you don't actually want a Rolex.
>>18546874Everything you list is offered by other watch brands.Rolex is the biggest watch brand in the world.
So, /wt/, I've been reading up on a lot of opinions about why Rolex is considered one of the most (if not the most) iconic watch brands in history. Seems that the main consensus is related to releasing a bunch of watches that have influential designs (e.g., Submariner, Datejust and Day-Date).What's your take?
>>18547013When you buy a $10k Rolex, about $2k went into making it and $8k went into various forms of marketing (competitors like Omega are closer to a 1/2 ratio). There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Rolex is a brand trying to make a profit. And despite what most autists think, marketing actually works if it's done right.Rolex made the right moves at the start of the Quartz crisis, bought the right celebrities at the right time, and succeeded in putting themselves at the top of the watch world in most normie's opinion. They don't make the best watches, don't offer the best value, and definitely aren't innovative, but none of that actually matters.
>>18547013They were the first to make actually really good watches that were affordable to the middle class. Basically, they were 1950's Seiko. And then they made a lot of good business decisions in the following decades.
>>18547027I think I saw a few old watch ads for Rolex and I checked out what they would be in today's dollars and I think they were around $2-3k USD. I don't think that's affordable but I might also be misremembering.
Why does this thread hate bittercel so much? He is unironically the best poster we have ever had. Here's my reasons:bittercel is always brutally honest. He is like water, he will find a crack in your watch and pour in from there. He is the criticism we need. You never get that in watchuseek or reddit, you only get an echo chamber of “nice watch, wear it in good health, champ” bullshit. Not with bittercel, he does not care for your feelings which is why he will tell you the truth. Yes, your watch is too big for you, yes it’s a shitter, yes the lugs look like shit, yes the movement is crap. You, as a critically thinking individual, should embrace this.We are all protected by anonymity here which is the point of this site. Avatarfags are pathetic going against this. Take reversocel for example; he couldn’t handle a bit of heat from bittercel and immediately fucked off to r/watches as soon as someone wasn’t sucking his cock over his shitters and pens lmfao.Yes, bittercel may seem bitter at first, but he is the counter force to all this circle-jerking in here. He is harsh but fair. You hold the fact he never posts a watch against him, but that is merely him not taking a side. He is not a brain-dead fanboy to brands (other than Rolex, but Rolex is Rolex). This way he maintains his unbiased position. And the best part of bittercel? He is always there for you, right here, in this thread.

For normies that's more than enough.
>>18547048It’s pasta. At least a year old, at this point, probably older

>>18545508If you’re not in love with it and you’re already at the point where you’re trying to swap out straps in the hope that SOME combination will make you actually love the watch, then I’m afraid it’s already over.I hope whoever you bought it from has a return policy, if not, I hope you bought it cheaply enough to where you can trick someone else into paying what you paid.
>>18547061>they are still exceptionally well made, reliable, accurate, and will last a lifetime. For normies that's more than enough.Sounds like you're talking about Seiko desu.
>>18545508At this price point, if you're "not feeling" any part of it, then WHY THE FUCK DID YOU BUY IT?
>>18547077Fair but they don't have such a large or robust second hand market. Buy a Rolex and history tells you that you can sell it at a later day and get at least your money back - to a lot of people that matters. Seiko, with a few exceptions, can't claim that.

In a world where Rolex screams status, Tudor whispers taste. A Rolex is the billboard of success, but Tudor? It’s the secret handshake of those who know better. You pay less, yet get a sibling forged in the same fires—Swiss precision, timeless design, and none of the "look-at-me" hysteria. A Tudor is a poet's watch; a Rolex, a salesman’s pitch. >>18547278So you've flip flopped your position
>>18547277Yeah it's my watch that gets the most comments from women
>>18547282Uh, no, kiddo. I was agreeing with your statement that >so Grand Seikos are shitters too?(They are)
>>18547293>>18540647>"Japanese watch" is not an impressive term until you get up to something like Grand Seiko, Kinuchi, Kurono, etc.
>>18547146If she's never worn a watch it's risky but you know her best.Bought my wife pic related for her birthday and she hasn't taken it off.

tell me not to buy this, pleaseit's gorgeous
>>18547160>she has a couple fake "tank"-style watches that she likes to wear sometimes.why don't you get her a vintage Cartier then?
>>18547328Oh, that’s easy. Just remember that every time you look down at your wrist, you’ll be reminded that you couldn’t afford a Lange 1.
>>18547258No shit, woman.
>>18547326That's a quote from (you)
Thoughts on this? $500, Stellita movement, 10.8mm thick caseThey’ve also got one that’s like a field dial with a dive bezel combo, kinda funky. Missed out on the era when aliX chinesium watches used ETA clone movements and weren’t thick as a brick on the wrist.
>>18547230Not sure what you mean.>>18547247I don't think I have any reason to seethe. But maybe you do.
>>18547348I don't know man, there are just way too many micro brands at this point for me to care about any of them, there's a new one every week. At $500 just get a brand watch. Orient or something I don't know.
>>18546941Correct!>>18546952Being the biggest brand means nothing to me. Like I said, it's the iPod phone of horology. I don't accept the idea that just because Rolex makes a lot of money their watches are automatically good.>>18547209I sent this pasta to my friend that wears a Tudor and he unironically agreed with it. Nice.>>18547224It's really thick and bulky. Have you tried it on?
>>18547185>I robed a guy last night, took his Rolex. Its a submariner. How do you sell it, anyone know?an amazing timepiece and a long term investment. wear it in good health.
>>18546660its a $50 chink no brand rolex"homage" and the fact that you have to ask if its a rolex shows how retarded premium watchfags are
>>18547328Have you seen the panomatic lunar up close? It's insane. >>18547335Every watch is a cope of something else. Even 50K breguet are a cope of VOUTILAINEN. Even this>>18547358 because he couldn't get a Philippe dufour.Only Rolex isn't a cope because it's by far the strongest brand. The only Rolex cope is another Rolex which costs the same but you couldn't get your hands on. With that being said, anything is better than your watch.
>>18547408And maybe casio because if one wants a Casio he isn't cross shopping for anything else.
>>18547408insane good or insane bad?
>>18547408What is the speedmaster a cope of?And the 50 fathoms?
>>18547408What rolex costs the same as another rolex but is easier to get, but isn't also a perfectly decent watch and thus not necessarily cope?
>>18547408I don't even like Voutilainen and Dufour only makes watches for midgets. The Simpicity only comes in 34mm and 37mm sizes.
>>18547426I'm going to be very harsh here to make you understand that you suffer from cognitive dissonance. And throw in some unnecessary insults to spice things up a little. You said >"I don't even like--"Emphasis on the "I". This isn't about you, you main character syndrome triple vaxxed midwit. What if I said this, and pay attention to how this sentence is going to make you feel you soulless NPC:>"I don't even like a Lange und Söhne---I like GO'e designs more"Well? I know what you thought of, you know it, and the others know to. Now, how is it different from me saying>"It doesn't matter that voutilainen costs 5 times more, I don't like the designs"How's this not a cope? Exactly. Now have some inner conversation to better yourself as a person and learn to think from an objective 3rd perspective.>34mmThat's even more impressive considering the movement has the tightest, deepest, roundest and shiniest anglaged bevels on the industry.>>18547422Speedmaster? If you know the actual history of how it was chosen to go to the moon, than any chronograph that's objectively better than it (el primero) or stronger brand (rolex/Daytona) is the watch people would buy instead. If you don't know the story, it doesn't matter because Omega recently removed the "all parts are made in Switzerland" from their website which means you're paying 10K for a 95% made in China watch. That's up to you if this doesn't bother you.The 50 fathoms is based, I can't say anything negative about it. Shady history to which one actually came first but, yeah.
>>18547438Post your collection.
>>18547441now you
>>18547438>than any chronograph then*
Just got back from my friend's bachelor party. Spent £350 to rent a Nautilus for the night. We went to a club in London, tables, bottle service etc. Not one single girl commented on my watch.
>>18547438I asked which watch the speedmaster is a cope of, and you did not answer.I don't know why watch buyers obsess so much over stories and country of origin. Anything to avoid discussing the actual design and features of a watch, huh?
>>18547470Oh so if stories don't matter, like I said, Daytona and el primero.
>>18547448Sure.
>>18547475Obviously a unimaginably expensive collection and beyond impressive. But it's SO safe and devoid of character my man.Damn it. No outlier, nothing. Maybe the FP? I don't know dude. That's the same collection every multi-milionare has, every single one of them. Congrats on being successful, no one is going to deny that, and yet you seem like a boring person.

>>18547348I have a 36mm Glycine Combat Sub and it's great, particularly the movmenet. Only problem for me is the 18mm lug width combined with the thickness of the straight lug cutouts.I assume that one is 40mm with 20mm lugs though so probably is better proportioned
>>18547472Those both came after the speedmaster. You're just making stuff up. They also look way uglier, don't have interesting cases, and don't have alternative scales besides tachymeter, which I find useless.
>>18547408Rolex is a cope of having any sort of personality. The NPC watch.
Do you bother putting your daily back in a case and on its watch block? or just leave it on your table
>>18547594Look up "ideal watch collection" on r/watches. You'll see most redditors consider the ideal collection as 2-3 Rolexes, a Royal Oak, and a Nautilus. So Rolex and Genta. You're right it's total NPC behavior, it's only comparable to things like Stanley water bottle and Labubu.
>>18547595I don't have a watch box, but I put my weekly watch on a bedside safe for the nigh. The rest stay safe in the bank for insurance purposes.
Can someone ID this or at least tell me if it's a Chink shitter or not?
so fucking true
>>18547601Why do you say that like it's a bad thing? Those are all great watches.
>>18547460if you had a gold digital casio they would have
>>18547625They are all ugly, boring, and/or not much for what you're paying for. LabubuSomeone with a list like that has no knowledge of watches, they're NPCs. Genta watches are disgusting over-cased slop (except the polerouter which normalfags don't even know about). Rolex gets discussed here enough. It's like if a "car guy" said his 5 favorite cars were all luxury SUVs.
>>18547621>24h subdial>open heart showing raw bridge surfaces inside the movement>fake screws on the fake balance bridgeIf you can't tell whether or not this is the Xinaman's Special, you should not be posting in a thread about watches.

>>18547631>please contribute to the thread by asking questions and/or asking for advice>Please post pics of your watches here; it doesn't matter if it's worth 5$ or 50000$Thanks for confirming what I had assumed. Found this thing in a drawer and have no idea how it got there.
Does anyone have an experience with Ball watches? I'm considering buying pic related. It's a big chunker, but it'd be nice to use a vacation watch, because of its world time function and 300m depth rating. It's 14,2mm tall though. My wrist is 17cm.
>>18547630> They are all ugly, boring, and/or not much for what you're paying for.In your opinion, and let's be clear. It's a minority one.
>>18547640>your opinion is a minority opinion.Yes, that's what makes one "not an NPC".
>>18547642Or it makes you someone with shit taste.
>>18547639Solid but unremarkable. Just be aware they don't have a single original design. Their entire business model is built on copying better and more expensive watches. But unlike Chink replicas they do it legally.
>>18547642Not me but he's right.>>18547640Just because most people say something doesn't make it true. Most people are uninformed. If you are so easily swayed by marketing and public opinion, then I suggest actually visiting all the boutiques and seeing the differences between all these watches hands-on.
>a diver watch huh?>you ever go diving with it?how do you respond without sounding mad?
>>18547672"Yes."But the actual reason I don't have a diver is because I do dive, and a dive computer is way better.
>>18547659> Just because most people say something doesn't make it true.It doesn't make it false either.
what watch is this?
>>18547683It's easy to verify anon, just ask why they wear a rolex/genta over the other options available in the market. From the people I know, one got a Daytona from his dad, he doesn't know anything about watches. Another got a RO for his wedding, also no interest in watches. I met a doctor with a RO, he also said it was a gift, tried talking about watches but he said he has no idea, he just wears it since it's what he has. My cousin wears a datejust (gift as well). The two watch autists I know irl have a lot of watches, and no Rolex or Genta (which are just generic slop watches that parents and wives buy for men).
>>18547698Your personal anecdote isn't proof. I can do the same, I know many high-end watch collectors who buy rare and independents, they all also own at least one Rolex because they know they are damn good watches. Rolex sell millions of watches each year for just as many reasons.
Gerald Genta was a revolutionary and the single most important visionary in timepiece design.
>>18547721He is also the only watch designer (you) know.
>>18547751That's incorrect.
>>18547721What exactly did he revolutionize?
I saw Gerald Genta at a watch boutique in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how amazing it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a nuisance and bother him or ask him to sign my Royal Oak or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued browsing, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my items at the counter, I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Credor Locomotives in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like, “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the watches and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical interference,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each watch and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
>>18547702Rolex is the iPod phone of horology. It's OK to admit you fell for the hype, and it's OK for a collector to keep a shitty purchase after knowing better. Clearly your opinions are not grounded in reality since you thought the speedmaster was copying the Daytona. Just go in and try on watches, you'll be really surprised at the things you see. All these totally flat images on brand websites do not actually show how ugly or beautiful different cases are. Even the diameter of a watch can't really be communicated through pictures. Some expensive materials look like cheap plastic, and sometimes the most basic dial has a lot of depth to it. You might lust over a watch for weeks and then be repulsed by it when you see it in person. A lot of the time you'll find that things aren't even the color you thought they were. The Blancpain moonphase disks are so reflective it can be hard to make out the face, blued steel hands on a lange appear black at certain angles, there is so much intrigue in watches that you can only experience in person. If someone does their homework and still wants a Rolex or Genta, then they need to buy some glasses before they buy a watch. But like I said, most Rolex and Genta wearers know nothing about watches. They just get them as gifts or think basketball/tennis == good.

>>18547046There once was an avatarfag named reversocel and he clashed hard with bittercel.Rcel actually was married (which is just inceldom with extra steps in his case) and really didn't like his given name. He also tried to maintain this thin veil of anonymity and denied his avatarfagging behaviour every time he was accused of it. Bear in mind he used to post his watches without context nearly every thread, so he definitely was an avatarfag. His upper class larp behaviour also made him hated by many.Bittercel became exceedingly good at calling him out every time he popped his head up and eventually he couldn't take it. Bittercel's bants were always too much for him and he couldn't help himself by trying to justify his behaviour. I his last post he wrote an excessive monoloque stating his distaste of 4chan generally (despite previous claims of fitting in here) and literally stormed off to reddit of all places. After this saga and what I believe to be Bittercel's ultimate victory, both names faded into relative obscurity.
