41 or 36 Explorer?
7 inch wrist
>>

If you have a 7” wrist, get an Explorer 2. The design of the Explorer 1 is far too dainty to work in 40mm.

I’m interested to see if the new Rolex Land-Dweller solved this problem. Rolex always has comfortable bracelets. An uncomfortable Rolex would practically be a contradiction in terms.
>>
>>18578207
2 is ugly
>>
>>18578264
It’s also one of the ones you have to wait for.
There’s like three classes of Rolex these days:
Class 1: less than two months wait, resale is below MSRP. Like common color OPs and DJs and Explorer ms
Class 2: you’ll have to wait up to a year. Resale is around or possibly higher than MSRP. Submariner, Explorer II, common color Day-Dates
Class 3: Be prepared to wait years. Daytonas, GMT Master, special color anything.

Tudor ranger vs the new longines spirit pilot?
>>
>>18578285
i'd chose the Longines because the ranger is one of the worst cope Tudor makes.
>>
>>18578285
Longines. It looks cleaner and it’s thinner to boot. The Ranger is supposed to be 36mm but Rolex wouldn’t allow that because it would cannibalize sales from the Explorer.
>>
>>18578305
>>18578301
Ive basicly settled on the ranger. You'll have to offer more than cope and false premises on what its supposed to be. The spirit is slightly thinner though, ill give you that.
>>
>>18578285
I also vote longines, I bought it a few weeks ago and I’ve been enjoying it. the ranger seems like the forgotten unwanted child of tudor. I don’t hate it and think it could be good with a few updates but I feel like they’ll just eventually stop making it in a few years

I don't like the case shape, brown/bronze color, or the little polished bits on the bracelet on the longines.
I was between those two and a Sinn 556, and I went with the ranger. It just came in the mail yesterday actually. Bought used on ebay for $2500, it has some light scratches that I only notice if I'm looking for them. I've only been wearing it for a couple days but I'm really happy with my purchase.
If you haven't yet, go look at one in person. I wasn't sure how I felt about the faux patina when looking at pictures, but after holding one I like it, I think it's well done.
>>
>>18578285
Assuming you mean the three-hand Spirit and not the chronograph, the Spirit all the way.
It is a legitimately good looking watch in person. It looks like it costs more than it does. The case flows really well nicely, it’s thin, the dial proportions are just right and it has a nice sense of depth.
I could see putting it on a croc strap and even using it as a dress watch in a pinch.
>>
>>18578166

Got any recommendations for a 800 USD Dress Watch that's at least automatic? Wouldn't mind if it's used or brand new.
>>
>>18578446
Automatic dress watch for that price will be enormous, which means it wont be a dress watch.
>>
>>18578421
that’s why the original was smaller, the modern one followed the jumbo version’s proportions.
>>
Is it normal for a new rolex date change to be off by a few minutes? I have one that the date changes over 4 minutes after midnight.
>>
>>18578548
When I put a handset on an Ali express dial and movement I typically aim for midnight ±2 minutes. It's just a matter of precision and attention to detail. You have to give Rolex some slack, they don't really have the resources to be so precise.
>>
>>18578548
no, a difference of 4 minutes overnight that is not normal. but you don’t have a rolex so it doesn’t matter
>>
>>18578229
It's really weird you think this Chopard is a flex. Not only because you paid 6 grand for it (lmao) which really isn't a large sum of money, but because this kind of watch is supposed to go under the radar.

Looks like your generic sub copy. Thei watch with yellow diver seems a little more original..
Otherwise idk, their website gives off zombie brand/fake history vibes.
There's already Baltic, Yema, Doxa (...) in the "legendary historical french sub watches" market (so legendary that no one heard of them except for Doxa).
>>
>>18578673
The design looks pretty clean, though I’m no fan of the faux patina. What are the specs?
>>
>>18578346
Tudor makes good copes, the BB 54 is a good cope.
But the Ranger is just sad, it lacks the versatility of the class of the Explorer.
>>
>>18578686
I think you’re absolutely right.
The BB54 or the Pelagos series are good copes because they’re also something Rolex no longer makes (in this case small divers and/or actual tool divers)

The Ranger, on the other hand, seems like it’s a leftover from an earlier era of Tudor. It’s too ungainly and blocky to be a good field watch (compared, for example to the hand-winding Hamilton Khaki). It can’t serve as a dressy watch in emergencies like the 36mm Explorer can.
>>
>>18578446
It depends on your style but technically for $800, you can't get much better than a NOMOS.
>>
>>18578692
What if anon isn't gay?
>>
>>18578684
You're confused. Doxa is swiss and was revived after the quartz crisis. Baltic is a 10yo microbrand. Yema passed from hand to hand but never totally dissapeared. Auricoste is owned by the same family since the 1980s.
>>
>>18578696
then Junghans Max Bill is the second best
>>
>>18578673
I think i have never seen more generic looking watch.
>>
>>18578692
Even ignoring all the gayity, this is not a good watch. Those lugs are just screaming daniel wellington.
>>
>>18578718
Those are the traditional lugs. They’re not going to stop. It’s like Breguet cold rolling the sides of their cases and welding lugs.
Nomos does make watches with more modern lugs designs like the Club and the Orion.

What's an interesting vintage watch 50's/60's that's under 300 euro dollars?
>>
>>18578718
>daniel wellington
Is Daniel Wellington even a reference of bad taste anymore?
It was mostly big in 2010, no one is wearing them now or has this cultural reference anymore.
>>
>>18578718
(Of course, ignoring the gaiety) I think it is a good watch. Nomos does make a good product for the money. Their in-house movements are solid and robust. Their watches are quite thin.
The Ahoi, for example has like 200m WR and is like 9mm thick.
The finishing is definitely simple but it’s not badly done. They also make their watches in a variety of sizes, which more companies should do.

They definitely have their own design language which isn’t for everyone, but I’d rather they do their own thing rather than puke out another forgettable vintage military inspired diver.

Do you see what i mean? You're just showing your age with this reference.

And the problem of DW was mostly the build quality, not the overall design that was just minimalist (that's why it's close to NOMOS and Junghans).

OK, we had a little horology evening.
>OMEGA
My speedmaster was ready for pickup but the telemeter bezel wasn't perfectly aligned (yes I brought a loupe to check, yes, the last time I went in for service after the bezel popped off due to 'operator error' they also reinstalled it slightly off-center and I seethed for 5 years until now.) This time I'll only accept perfection. Back to waiting.
>CZAPEK
My first time seeing Czapek irl, they had lovely service and some nice pieces. My favorite two were the onyx dial with sapphire indices, and the meteorite green dial. The size was perfect, the bracelet was really nice, flexible, but it's a little flashy. They said they can order a matte one for me though. Movements were just unreal, you can find lots of macro footage online but honestly I'd say second only to Lange based on what I've actually held in my hands. 300m WR too. I've got a deposit down on SLGB005 so I'm holding off, but it can't hurt to look.
>ROLEX
I finally went in, quite friendly staff similar to Omega (also all Chinese), they let me try on GMTs, but they only had Zombie and Pepsi (I wanted rootbeer). Anons should be aware the rehauts were aligned. I was a little underwhelmed, maybe because I'm used to the speedmaster with bracelet, but they were a bit smaller and a lot lighter than I was expecting. Obviously the bracelets weren't sized for me, but given that the lugs are thick all the way to the ends, it did feel like it stuck out a bit near the edges of my wrist. Idk what I was expecting but they're just steel (and gold) sports watches. I really didn't like the colored ceramic though, it looks like shitty plastic to me. It's a no from me, but I will give some more thought to Czapek.

Whenever people talk about affordable watches they always bring up
>Seiko
>Citizen
>Timex
>Casio
>Chinese watches

Yet no one talks about the undisputed goat

>Orient

Aside from crap bracelets which can easily be substituted with aftermarket bracelets/straps you get:

>Original designs
>Some of the best looking dials in the affordable space
>Reliable in house movements whose accuracy is understated
>Better specs than 90% of the brands in the space

The Star Diver is one of my favourite diver designs out there, it's a bit of a bitch to get here though and I am not firing up Chrono24 because I am going to spend thousands on impulse purchases.

IT IS MORE ACCURATE THAN EVERY ROLEX EVER MADE AND IT ONLY COST ME 80 DOLLARS AT WALMART!

I BET YOU ARE SO SHOCKED RIGHT NOW HEHEHEHE
>>
>>18579088
All high-polish cases? I mean, depending on the case shape and size it can be done. Or do you mean the polishing itself is of poor quality?
>>
>>18579094
Orient still has the stigma of “affordable watch” while not actually being that affordable anymore. Bambino went from like 100 dollars to 250 in 5 years
>>
>>18579136
The prices of everything is up, quibbling over individual brands doing so is futile. The quality of an Orient is still better than that of a similarly priced Seiko.
