Good day /wt/.
What are we wearing today, lads?
>>
>>18581199
> Bulova Precisionist. They use a higher capacity Lithium Ion battery and state a 1 year battery life.
How much does a battery replacement cost? It doesn’t seem worth the additional cost just for a smoother sweep, especially when 10 year batteries are common.
>>

>>
>>18581217
>How much does a battery replacement cost?
However much it costs to buy a battery in walmart?
>>
>>18581209
I didn't wear a watch today because I took my son to the park and last Sunday he pocket-sanded me and I had to throughly clean the bracelet afterwards.
>>
>>18581220
I mean, what is the difference in cost between the lithium and a normal coin cell? Or do they use a completely specialized battery unique to them?
>>
>>18581219
Anything with the 700P movement.
>>
ROLEX = SEX
ROLSEX
>>
Avatards cannot comprehend ROLEX SEX.
>>
>>18581225
No, size and voltage are equal to a normal coin cell. They use Maxell CR2016 3V which are $1-$3.
>>
>>18581238
That’s interesting. So it is just slightly reduced battery life but otherwise no difference.
Might have to look into the Bulovas more.
>>
>>18581239
>battery lmfao
ROLEX is perpetual. Your body keeps the watch ticking for the rest of your life.
>>
>>18581205
>piaget
>extra thin feminine watches for handmaids
>water resistance 404

Meanwhile a real watch like a Rolex has wrist presence and a healthy 200m water resistance along with a robust movement. Rolex is for real men.
>>
>>18581239
Simple reason why there are so few Quartz watches with a sweeping second hand:
There is very little overlap between Quartz watch buyers and those who care about the sweeping hand.
>>
In this Hodinkee JP pic the dial looks almost black at a certain angle. Can't wait to see it.
>>
>>18581250
That’s basically it. Quartz as a technology is basically stagnant. No one is really asking for improvements. They’re already accurate enough. What more could people want beyond more battery life?
>>
>>18581241
The best Rolex with no competition whatsoever has a battery though.
>>
>>18581282
Except that they cannot be serviced anymore. Rolex won’t touch them. They don’t have all the spares anymore.

>>
>>18581284
That's not true. They still take care of the Oysterquartz.

They all fill the exact same purpose. The Hamilton, the Unimatic, the pilot, all of them are the same rugged mid range NPC shit.
I'm pretty sure the guy forgets half of them in his mind. What do you need all these watches for?
>>

>>
>>18581371
I think he started with a box ticking “collection” and just never got rid of anything. It’s pretty soulless.

That said, though, a collection is allowed to have redundant pieces. If you really like dress watches, for example, having a half dozen different dress watches is a totally legitimate thing to collect.

The guy who owns this collection has most likely a kinda boring life. He probably wears a suit once a year, only goes to family restaurants with his fat wife and dumbass kids, enjoys fancy things but doesn't care much for luxury. He has too many similar watches sure, but I don't really agree with the idea that watches have to have a different purpose. You can love very similar watches just like you can love pasta alla carbonara and pasta a l'amatriciana. Who cares?

>I was just browsing r/selfsuck and r/balls
Kek, based.
>>
Why does this thread hate bittercel so much? He is unironically the best poster we have ever had. Here's my reasons:

bittercel is always brutally honest. He is like water, he will find a crack in your watch and pour in from there. He is the criticism we need. You never get that in watchuseek or reddit, you only get an echo chamber of “nice watch, wear it in good health, champ” bullshit. Not with bittercel, he does not care for your feelings which is why he will tell you the truth. Yes, your watch is too big for you, yes it’s a shitter, yes the lugs look like shit, yes the movement is crap. You, as a critically thinking individual, should embrace this.

We are all protected by anonymity here which is the point of this site. Avatarfags are pathetic going against this. Take reversocel for example; he couldn’t handle a bit of heat from bittercel and immediately fucked off to r/watches as soon as someone wasn’t sucking his cock over his shitters and pens lmfao.

Yes, bittercel may seem bitter at first, but he is the counter force to all this circle-jerking in here. He is harsh but fair. You hold the fact he never posts a watch against him, but that is merely him not taking a side. He is not a brain-dead fanboy to brands (other than Rolex, but Rolex is Rolex). This way he maintains his unbiased position.

And the best part of bittercel? He is always there for you, right here, in this thread.

They make some nice stuff now. They also make some pretty terrible watches like their Mile Miglia chronographs. And they've made a whole bunch of unremarkable watches likes the countless Cartier copes from the 80s and 90s (hence the name, Copehard).
I don't have anything bad to say except I find their watches rather undesirable. What I'll say though, is you don't come here calling everything a shitter when all you have to show is this >>18581467.

How is that design legal? It’s not like the Tank is some generic round case or was originally a stock part made by a third party.

Chopard’s St.Moritz was an obvious Santos de Cartier ripoff but it at least contained enough original elements to make it look reasonably unique (if shitty.) but that is literally just a Tank Louis Cartier with worse finishing.
>>
>>18582007
what are you talking about, that's what every watch looked like in the 1920s
>>
>>18582030
That’s just rectangular. That’s not obviously a Tank.
>>
>>18582030
And guess who came up fist with that design in 1917?
>>
>>18582007
NTA but lets be honest here: the whole watch industry unashamedly copies one another. They change a thing here and there and then proudly announce a "brand new watch". Just look at the whole integrated bracelet blue dial sports watch malarkey, look at the Tank, look at the Sub, the desk divers, the basic dress watch, the list goes on... It's all just endless trips through the photocopier.
>>
>>18582007
The Cartier Tank came up in 1917. Chopard started making copies at least 70 years later. The expiration date for the intellectual property of the Tank was most likely over at that time.
>>
>>18582041
I remember reading somewhere about this years ago that Cartier was unable to copyright the design but they were able to copyright the name Tank. Not sure why in terms of the legalities.

There's a common problem with these models you should be aware of. The time on both faces isn't the same (often by a minute or two) and since the hands are synchronized you can't correct the problem by yourself.

I've noticed that the perception of Grand Seiko keeps getting worse as the SHUNBUN!!!! SNOWFLAKE!!!! has become as obnoxious as the COKE!!!! PEPSI!!!! Somehow they skipped over a mainstream audience and went straight from niche autism to influencer slop. Probably because they pay people to post about their watches. In any case, they remain unique by persisting in the Swiss watch scene and being off-puttingly sincere while everyone else is le ironic.

The GS community has always been obnoxious to be honest, and it really is the brand's fault since they've decided to market their watches in the west specifically for autistic weebs (to a point I find some of their ads borderline insulting). There are a few GS that I like but I know I'll never buy one because I just don't want to be part of that "tribe".
>>
>>18582113
The problem with GS isn’t the silly nicknames or the shilling by social media. Simply put, it’s the difference between price and quality.

Fifteen years ago when no one had heard of GS, it was like a hipster secret.
>You know, in Japan, Seiko makes these watches that are, like, really accurate and really well made. You can’t get them here, but you can get a second hand one for really cheap!

I remember trying one out a simple 9F powered three-hander with date, for like 600 bucks and I was really impressed by the quality. But the ones made today are no different than from back then except they cost ten times as much. The value is no longer there, neither is the feeling of wearing something no one else knows about.

Of course. Some retard’s spambot doesn’t determine the rules. The thread’s purpose is stated in the OP.
Pictures of watches are fine, even pictures of your own watches, as long as they are relevant to the discussion and not used to annoy people.
