It gets a bit frizzier over the course of the day but just barely and I have to be careful with it and not rub it up against anything because I don’t use any styling products so it has no hold.
but when I wake up the next day it’s ruined and I have to wash it again.
also you can see on the right side that it’s not in defined curls and is just frizzy waves. my right side is always worse than every other section
might as well post it again ig
it looks like shit always even on its best days. no volume, very little definition. i could use some layers up top so it won’t be weighed down as much and’ll have a bit more volume.
>>

i have longish hair, maybe something like the "long curtain" but i don't really have a hairstyle and i don't know shit about that anyway lol
all i do is use shampoo, conditioner and go to bed with my hair a bit wet to get a few shitty curls since i have wavy hair
honestly i'd cut it but my current job is not client facing so i can get away with long hair, and also watching so many coworkers slowly getting bald makes me appreciate my hair genetics lol

i get a haircut every three months and just have the barber taper the sides down to a #3 and scissor trim the top. i wear kind of a messy side part, i just comb my wet hair with a wide tooth comb and let it air dry. my natural waves come through nicely like this.
>nizoral shampoo eveyr couple days
>argan oil conditioner most days
>maaaaybe a pomade if it's windy out or my hair looks frizzy

I have this curl when my hair wants to, very rarely but most of the time it will have dry looking more wavy than curly kinda look. I put mine in a loose manbun most of the time since you dont really want to torture the roots and get traction balding. Getting into the curly hair care to make it look great is even more work when my seb derm/scalp psoriasis raped scalp is too sensitive. Tried the usual nizoral (too drying, even more itchy), selenium sulfide (drying), zinc pyritone (doesnt really work, drying), olamine something (calm my scalp from the itch but the sebderm still there),coal/pine tar (too drying, itching), just salicylic acid shampoo seem to be best to lift those big ass seb derm flakes.

Some oils I have tried
-virgin coconut (heavy and hot, seem to buildup the scalp problem even more)
-virgin olive oil (same as coconut oil)
-argan oil (get me some nice curl but made my scalp itch and scalp buildup)
-cosmetic grade fractionated coconut oil (just ok, seen to loose the moisturising effect after 3-4 hours, less scalp build up)
-food grade mct oil (c8,c10) (pretty good,no itch, a bit of scalp buildup but expensive)
-jojoba oil (seem good so far)

Depends on your weather and oil you wanna use.Mine still around after 2-3 days, after just washing it daily with just water. If youre active you maybe need to shampoo daily and shit, gotta personalize your routine unfortunately.

>would it be okay to mix a bunch of hair oils?
You want to test them individually first so you know what works best for your hair and scalp, blend later after testing if you want to.

i'm mixing rosemary, castor, olive, coconut and argan
about a few drops each, heat the mix up a little and apply to the scalp using an applicator
>>
>>18590820
1. Yes it should and water temperature affects it, but don't worry to much about it. Rule of thumb should be applying when you need it to control frizz and don't do it so much it's complete oily all day.
2. No, that's perfect. You can shower 1 or 2 more times if you sweat a lot.

You want oil based pomade for maximum hold and longevity, washing it off gonna be a bitch though. Years ago when I was looking into pomade, Reuzel seem to the go-to for maximum hold. I just used Suavecito in the end. Good enough hold and wash off at the end of day.

I feel like ponytail for long curly hair isnt really great choice except once in a while, and the pulling action to tie it off seem to damage the hair like in your image like those frays. It can knot and worse, mat too.Might wanna look if theres a non tying style and maybe a shorter hair style that can fit you. I have porous hair as well, even oiling (jojoba oil) them isnt helping much, and too much oil just gonna fuck up my scalp. You can also sleep with a silk or satin bonnet or pillowcase.

Hello /fa/. Even though it’s 3 years old it looks the same. Dont rub your hair too hard when towel drying, try squeezing the water out with the towel instead since rubbing against coarse fabric can damage your hair and that includes your pillowcase. And if conditioning or oiling still doesnt work, your hair might be just turning into natural wavy or curly now its growing out. Get better opinion at your local saloon to see if its damaged and trim them out.

How do I define my curls? When I use products usually it looks good on the front, but my back ends up completely straight.
If I just shampoo, it dries out my ends and it looks like shit. It looks best if i shampoo in the morning, hit the gym and then wash with just water after, but next morning its shit again

your hair is probably wavier than you realize. When hair is relatively short, it can mask pattern/texture of the hair. In your instance, the reason it's fanning out like that at the nape of the neck is because of the natural curving of the neck in that direction and the way you're combing it also anchors in that pattern. It's similar to when skater-boys have hair that flips up around the sides, because their hats push the hair out.

For reference, that's similar to what my hair does at that length, but when it's 20+ inches long it looks like this.
>>

Feel like posting my updated wash day routine for the winter. I alternate between roller sets and wearing my hair curly around this time of year. This week is curly. Pics in order from start to finish.

0) Pre-poo: oil and massage scalp with Mielle rosemary mint oil. Generously apply rosemary mint mask to dry hair, reaching full saturation. Finger detangle. Sit under hood dryer for 20-60 minutes to mimic hot oil treatment.

1) First wash: Get hair completely wet w/ cool water from shower. Lather TGIN Triple Moisture shampoo and scrub scalp using massager. Brush through strands. Pre-poo and finger detangling makes this possible w/o breakage. Removes buildup from strands. Rinse well.

2) Second wash: Repeat steps for first wash. Lather is much more intense as excess oil and dirt has been stripped away. Rinse.

3) Condition: Generously apply TGIN Triple Moisture conditioner to strands using prayer hands, rake method, and finally a wide tooth comb to start curl clumps. Scrunch. Plop into shower cap for 5-10 minutes while you wash body and/or shave. Rinse.

4) Leave-in: I have porous hair and it’ll feel like straw by day 4-5 if I don’t do this after rinsing. While hair is still dripping. Flip all hair to front. Use combo of prayer hands, rake, and scrunch to apply small amounts of SheaMoisture Curl Smoothie. Flip hair to side and other side and repeat to evenly coat all strands. Plop into microfiber towel.

5a) Style Prep: Rewet hair with spray bottle. Apply heat protectant spray.
Apply Rizzo’s Curl Defining Cream to hair using same method for leave-in. Section hair into top/bottom, back/sides.

5b) Styling: Start with back section. Take horizontal sections starting at the nape of neck. Rake small amount Kinky Curly Curling Custard gel through section. Brush up and away from scalp using Denman 7 row styler. Lightly shake out curls as they fall. Repeat for all of back. For sides, do as back but in vertical sections brushed forward.

Cont’d in reply.
>>
>>18614838
5c) Top: Taking horizontal sections, do as back but brushing up and forwards. 5d) Set: Plop in towel again and do your skincare in the meantime. Take hair down after less than 10 minutes, flip to front, and apply Doux Chief Rocka mousse using prayer hands. Scrunch flipped forward, then flipped side-side.

6) Home stretch (diffuse): Dry hair on low heat, medium fan speed w/ head flipped upside down, scrunching from ends to roots in small sections with a diffuser attachment. Flip head from side-side and repeat.

7: Break cast: Hair will be crunchy. That’s the gel cast. Take Saltair Santal Bloom hair oil and apply from ends to mids using prayer hands. Flip hair and repeat. Scrunch/shake/use Afro pick until desired volume achieved.

8: Profit: Have low maintenance curls for the rest of the week. Sleep with bonnet and simply shake out in the morning.
>>
>>18609292
Try brush styling. I have a similar problem with lots of random straight pieces in the back of my head.
You’ll want a Denman 7 row styler or cheaper knockoff. Both work. After applying curl cream and styling like usual, section off the unstyled looking part in the back. Then start at the nape of your neck taking horizontal sections. Brush them upward, then back; away from your scalp.

You can also figure out your hair type from this chart (https://share.google/0cdGKCppNwCCQIjVn) and search “(hair type) (hair length) brush styling tutorial” for more in depth instructions to do your whole head if you want a more consistent look.

If you like the result, but want more hold/less frizz after it dries try using a gel and/or mousse.

Attached back of my hair styled vs unstyled to show what happens. My hair is a diff texture but this should work for looser curls/waves.
>>
>>18614838
Interesting. Going to add some of stuff that stuff to my routine. Especially the prayer hands
>>
>>18615697
Prayer hands is good for evenly coating the strands and forming curl clumps. Scrunch after to help with absorption and to enhance curl.
>>

You need to confirm whether its fungal or something else (eczema, seb derm, or psoriasis) as some of the treatment for fungal can aggravate your condition if its isnt fungal issue. From my personal list of shampoo that can fuck you up with the worst at the bottom to help with the issue.

1.zinc pyrithione
2.piroctone olamine
3.urea shampoo
4.selenium sulfide
5. salicylic acid
6.selenium sulfide (higher %)
7.coal tar/pine tar
8.ketoconazole
>>
>>18619071
How do I confirm what it is?
Also when I use a shampoo my scalp gets very dry even moments after showering, and I can already see the flakes forming, any clue what might be?
>>
>>18619180
Gotta go to a dermatologist. It might just be your scalp is very dry making your skin flaking out. These anti dandruff and fungal shampoo are very drying and even some normal shampoo with "sulfate" in their ingredient strips your scalp and hair normal oil thats protecting them earlier. These can make your scalp get into this cycle of
>oil/sebum stripped by shampoo
>scalp makes more oil/sebum to protect
>they overproduce, shit up your scalp
>you shampoo
>repeat
This dry scalp can be either from chlorine or/and other chemicals in the water or too much minerals in them (hard water) too. I suggest using fungal safe oil like squalane, mineral oil or mct oil to condition your scalp after shampoo or showering as who knows if the normal hair conditioner has any ingredients that might aggravate your currently dried up scalp. You need to oil them as soon as you shower/shampoo to lock in moisture.
>>
>>18619206
Today after taking a shower I used my hair conditioner and massaged my scalp, after rinsing the flakes seem to be gone and it doesn't look dry. I usually don't use hair conditioners so this might be the reason?
>>
>>18619216
Honestly if theres no itchiness and no burning (chemical irritation) afterwards and no flaking these 2-3 days, you might've solved it.Always condition after shampoo.
>>
>>18619228
Alright I'm going to see if it works
>>
Has anyone that used Minoxidil for a while eventually tapered off their usage and replaced it with a natural remedy and saw results? What have you used? I've been using it for about 7 years now but was thinking of stopping because i've been wondering if it has been contributing to my anxiety. As far as the effectiveness of Minoxidil for me, I like to think my shedding of hair has slowed down a little, but I don't think it I have seen a really noticeable improvement.

I like the way this hair style exposes enough of my forehead but not enough to show off how oddly it's shaped. My problem is I don't know how to intentionally style it to make it this way; it usually winds up in this position after being left in a ponytail for a couple of days. Do you guys have any tips?

Also ignore that I'm not wearing a shirt I caught my hair doing this and didn't want to mess it up. Also fuck smartphone cameras; they make everything fisheyed.

MY HAIR I LOVE IT SO MUCHHH
Naturally curly but in two of these pics I had just had a treatment done and the salon blow dried it. My hair hardly holds straight for more than an hour then I start getting those Aurora curls. Bonus hairline and widows peak

>>18599458
Use scrunchies instead of normal hair ties. Silk pillow at night. Good quality conditioner and detangle in shower. Wear protective hairstyles during the day (simple braid)

>>18609292
Don't brush your hair when it's dry. It's bad for curls and makes them separate and look frizzy. Use curl cream and scrunch your damp hair in a soft towel to create ringlets

>>18619071
Before I knew what the fuck I was doing with my hair I used coal tar shampoo. RUINED my hair. Caused so much breakage. I'm still recovering and growing back my hair's thickness

Use a claw clip and hair spray at your roots to give them volume. Your hair should then fall similarly
>>
>>18596933
you can twist it to one side of your shoulder to cool off the back of neck, or wear it in a crazy high top ponytail that goes directly up then with an overstretched or "cheap" breathable beanie (it is actually still cooler with a proper thermal beanie it just makes your forehead sweat as it is meant to) but you look like a gnome.
I have boofy brown hair down to my nipples but I am actually wanting to cut it off and peroxide my hair and go 80s punk for the summer here.

>>
>>18621674
finasteride and minoxidil
if the thinning is at the crown you can sweep your hair back to mask it. But this really depends on what you mean by "starting to" thin. Most people are total plebs who don't notice hair density loss until the majority of it is already gone. Think of all this instances of dudes who never check the backs of their heads with a mirror and only find out they have a full-blown bald spot when someone tells them. So if that's what you mean by "starting to thin" then it's probably over. But if it's truly just starting to thin and you're examining your scalp and noticing the first signs of slight thinning, then it's salvageable
>>

Roller set before and after. Usually lasts 2 weeks.

I use rollers as a way to achieve a silk press with significantly less heat damage. Simply roll hair using your preferred roller, dry, brush out, and hit roots with a flat iron on low heat if they’re a bit puffy.

Anyone into vintage hair? Planning to go in for a cut and roller set some time soon. There aren’t very many salons in my aera offering roller sets to begin with, let alone a black/Dominican-owned one. (Dominicans can slay a wet set on thick curly hair)

Found an Ethiopian salon (similar styling techniques to the Dominicans) which offers both curl cuts (specialized cutting technique for natural curls) and roller sets.
My plan is to book a curl cut and a roller set, so my hair gets trimmed and shaped while curly, making sure it looks good in its natural state. ime, if it looks good natural, it’ll look good relaxed (if it’s well taken care of)

If you’re into women, and want to attract them, don’t cut it. Looks decently taken care of.

Learn protective styles for your texture. Specifically, a Dutch braid down the middle of your head would suit you well and be out of the way.
You could consider getting an undercut in the summer and keep the top layer long for a Ragnar Lothbrok (Vikings series) style look.

Once your braiding skills improve, maybe you could get creative and feed in some braids from the side like Picrel.

Its just a headband because my hair tickles my face. Its a bun sticking up lol

Don’t listen to other guys about your attractiveness. They are men. Unless you want to be attractive to a man, their opinions on your looks are often irrelevant to your objective. If you want to appeal to women, you need a perspective from the female gaze.

I don’t think it’s that absolute. I agree with your point about male insecurities in relation to other men, but honesty from someone who won’t bullshit you is more valuable than flattery from the opposite sex. In my view, weak men try to drag others down to their level, while confident men are constructive and straightforward because they know how to treat others well. Ironically, it’s often the weakest men who fish for unearned compliments the most.

Ask yourself if the people you're talking to are even worth listening to.

There is a bog body, that has blond hair and they have it tied /braided /tied into a knot on one corner at the front of the head passing by the forehead
I assume this is how they dried or dealt with humidity back them
I think it looks cool

You're gonna have to wear it out for a couple days for yourself to feel comfy wearing ut

Same, but in different ways. The length looks good in the first one, but the later ones have more volume at the top that looks better than the initial lack. It'd be cool if you could find a way to combine them. Nice eye color, by the way.

>Ask yourself if the people you're talking to are even worth listening to

Most of the people im around think im a Cali transplant or liberal hippy just because I dont wear cowboy boots, hats and clothes lol I live in a cattle auction town, which is the main issue. I dont listen to it, but its still annoying hearing it. >"Why do you have long hair?"
>"to flex on baldies like you."
Usually works

Is shorter hair (like just above the shoulders) making a woman look younger or older compared to long hair?

I personally associate shorter hair with older ladies (except on slim asians, they just always look cute with it) but i reeeeally start to hate my long to the butt hair and yearn for that easiness.

I haven't had a haircut in 12 years. I have no idea what to go for or what would complement my Jimmy Neutron-ass forehead. I'd like to try something new as my hair is now pretty damaged. What do you think, /fa/?

Black and white pic is the most recent.

Right one is the "I turned 30 and gave up" -look. I don't know why women do this. Maybe cut it down to your boobs.

Left is definitely more youthful than right. You basically never see older women with long hair like left. They either have a bob, a Karen haircut, or a crop. Not sure why women do it.

what about cute hairstyles like high and messy ponytail, braids, ribbons, spacebuns etc instead of the very strict and mature straight down bob?

I always wear my hair up anyways since it would always just slip into my face and I HATE that sensation.
Fore reference, I'm a 100lbs 5'2.

You legitimately could pull off a buzz, I think. More legitimately, something with close sides, your face and eyes are very attractive and the hair takes away from it.

I don't come here much but I'm considering switching hair product after spamming the same brand for a few years without thinking much about it
Any brand recommendations to check out?
>>
>>18630630
when you say close sides, do you mean for me to keep the hair long or cut it all shorter? If I keep it semi-long, maybe a mullet could work?

I might consider a buzz if I looked good, but I'm afraid I might have a funny skull shape underneath. May as well face the music however, MPB runs in my family lmao

Hairdresser appointment tomorrow.
No clue what I want to do besides maybe a wolfcut but my hair is so fine, straight and retarded I have no clue what it would end up looking like.
I've had short hair all my life so I want to keep it longer this time.
Any recs?

I tried a mullet once... I looked like a retard.
Actually it's the reason I started growing my hair out.

Queer looking or not it seems very hit or miss even on pretty people which I sure am not.

I have big flakes on one part of my head, how do I get rid of them?
When I shower I use shampoo and conditioner and just after my hair dries a bit I can see the white dry skin forming in the same place (even part of my forehead were there are no hairs)
