/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - WEDGE SOLES EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

vibergs are a different look to white's, the stitchdown on viberg is a little lower profile compared to the rolled stitchdown on white's, higher SPI on the vibergs makes it a little dressier. but all that being said go with the white's because it has the unique arch support that viberg doesn't even come close to
>>
>>18592605
Whites are typically more comfortable due to the arch support. The tradeoff is that the finishing on Vibergs is way more clean, they generally have nicer clicking, and the outsole isn't fucking massive and clunky like it is on the Whites. If you are looking for a pair to be as durable and robust as possible, go with Whites. If you want a nicer pair of boots, go with Viberg. If you plan on getting Viberg, DO NOT get the Dainite sole. Zero traction on those pieces of shit. If dressy is what you want, spend a little more money on a pair of John Lofgrens. Clicking and finishing is top tier, and their lasts are very comfortable.

Thanks. A lot of good information! I'll give it some more thought. You'd take the same size in both? Part of the problem with White's in the sizing. Some say half down, some say same as UK sizing, and some say full down but one up in width. Viberg I'm pretty confident I'd get the correct size though. And no cobbler wants to resole stitchdown in Europe lel. This Viberg pair is welted though not stitchdown. But every pic I've seen of White's MP looks really nice(I guess true for Vibergs too, at least the boondocker styled ones like the one I'm eyeing) and the brown dress especially so. And as you said whites are tanks.

Just buy boots with laces. You're not a woman or an autist who can't tie laces. Or get something with a belt. That will be much more durable and adjustable.

This article gets reposted a lot, but it's genuinely helpful my fellow euroman. I myself own 2 pairs of Meindl boots, one for hiking and one for the winter, a brown pair of engineer boots from Sendra, a black pair of engineer boots from an Italian cobbler and a pair of Redwings that I got in Berlin. Europe has plenty of great bootmakers but since most "enthusiasts" are either from the states or from the far east you barely see them mentioned.

At least White's has custom service reps who answer the phone and emails instead of taking over a week to respond to a simple warranty Inquiry. I've never seen White's with as many glaring QC issues make it out the door. Nick's seems to have the mentality of "fuck it, send it" and hope you don't notice. And if you do notice, they make the warranty exchange process as painful as humanly possible.

>In 2016, the Company appointed a new CEO. Despite the openings of new luxury boutiques and the uplift of retail price, Church & Co reported losses and reduced the workforce in its plant in Northampton

>In August, 2009, cousins Jonathan and William Church conducted a management buy-out of Cheaney from Church & Co (by then a wholly owned subsidiary of Prada). Difference between repello suede and waxy commander? Are both viable for winter?
>>
>>18598576
Hello?
>>
>>18598628
>Repello calf suede is a type of suede that has been treated with a Scotchguard finish to provide enhanced protection against water and other stains

>Waxy Commander is a heavily waxed calf suede, naturally water-resistant and highly durable. Its rich, textured surface develops a unique natural patina over time, combining elegance with character.

You could have just used your search engine or AI of choice for a quick answer.

>>
>>18598869

what's wrong with them
>>
>>18598879
The finishing is really poor. Super sloppy welts, stitching, blemishes on the leather. You get what you pay for so it's not like it's unexpected
But the most egregious thing about Meermin is the god awful plastic stiffeners they use in the heels. They're the worst of any brand I've ever experienced
I had a pair of derbies from them I wore for one day and the blisters were so bad I have a big scar on my heel years later from where my heel was ripped apart. I was at a work conference that day so I couldn't switch my shoes.
Just terrible. With Meermin you don't break your shoes into your feet, you break your feet into your shoes
