/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - TEACORE HORSEHIDE EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

>>
I would like to ask for (you)r opinion on sole types, which ones do you have experience with, which ones were good or bad in your experience, which ones made you lose family members.
>>
>>18584787
I like commando soles because the stitching doesn’t come into contact with the floor or land you’re walking on.

I’ve also tried natural rubber outsoles and they’re much heavier and much more durable than what people seem to think.

How is leather from factory farmed animals or thebyproduct of meat equivalent to leather from animals killed during conservation efforts? The environmental impact is quantifiable and morally there's a difference too. If your favorite brand doesn't sell any, that's fine but it's not the same.

maybe im ocd, but here is why i wont buy a 700 dollar pair of pnw boots: if you have a super nice pair of boots, it doesnt look right wearing them with a 30 dollar pair of levis or wranglers. so then you gotta buy a really nice pair of selvedge jeans. once you do that, you have to then invest in you upper half. you cant have amazing boots and jeans and wear a shitty mall jaqcket. so you gotta splurge on a 1,000 dollar horsehide jacket. i guess what im saying is, if u just have one really nice piece and cheap out on the rest of the outfit, it doesnt look right. but if everything is heritage , selvedge , horsehide , pnw boots, u look like a larper. so truly there is no winning

This is very true. In general I think it’s dumb to cheap out on shoes and boots because feet are the most important thing you should take care of. After you have a good pair of shoes (not necessarily pnw boots but also not red wings, fuck that shit: if undecided stick to humbler brands such as Rancourt and Astorflex) then you can pair them with nice vintage clothes which are usually great and long-lasting quality but also not expensive.

Eh, I'm not so sure. I just ordered a pair of the White's Drifter 1s and I'm going to wear them with exactly that, band tees, Carhartt tees, hoodies, old flannels, cheap Levi's and Wranglers. It's only awkward if you're the type to fuss around with them and don't put any visible wear on them. I grew up around dudes who wore the high end Red Wing loggers with really nice sole rebuilds and the like, and all they wore were Harley Davidson merch and stonewashed mallbrand jeans lol. As long as you coordinate things a little and put a little wear on your boots they'll look fine.

>>18585646
What are your thoughts on jews?

>>18585406
The final redpill is that you should only ever use non-calf as roughout leather. Otherwise always calf.

I will not abide by this ultimate truth but that's just because I'm unfortunately still bluepilled in some ways. But in the afterlife I'm sure everyone will either wear calf or roughout boots.

Not really, cheap engineer boots don't really exist anymore and they were never perfect or what is in style today if you wanted to go the used/ vintage route to score a deal.
Crush on retro is your best option for a budget engineer boot but they probably aren't going to last that long on a construction and materials standpoint and the dimensions are off on things like the shaft, they're super wide.
>>
>>18585785
You could sand the remaining fraying then use black wax to dye it and make it look less destroyed.

the made in US range has other problems, namely the last they used. they used a high heel but did not include a shelf for your arch so a lot of wearers are complaining that their foot slides forward very easily, basically they were mimicking the higher heeled lasts of PNW boots but not fully understanding WHY things are done that way for PNW boots

Steel shanks are the industry standard because they're more rigid and thus offer more support than leather or fiberglass. The only excuse I've heard for leather shanks is that over time a shank will wear into the insole and you MIGHT feel it underfoot on older boots. You're basically hedging your bet for comfort in the long run by dealing with a less supportive boot with a leather shank.

I'm glad I got to see some engineer boots in person. I think they're good looking and well made on their own, but definitely not for me. These were from Attractions.
